Al-Khat

EN I discovered this company at the fair Fragranze 2012 in Florence Italy. It wasn't easy to find then the store that sells fragrances to the regular customer like me, but in the end I was able to buy the whole line from the site ausliebezumduft.de I must say that there is a system to buy perfumes Xerjoff paying the relatively low price (the normal price of the bottle of 50 ml is up to US$ 260-325). Since the Shooting Stars line and the Oud Stars line are the masterpieces of artistic perfumery, it is worth to buy the Shooting Stars - Discovery Sets - Part One and Part Two and Oud Stars Collection - Discovery Set that cost US$ 208 for each of the first two sets and US$ 254 for the Oud collection set. Of course there are the Discovery Sets for XJ17/17 Collection (US$ 331) and XJ Casamorati 1888 Vintage Collection (US$ 182), but personaly I do not like the last two lines, so I didn't order them. In each set there are 6 fragrances of 15ml each and therefore the price for a volume of 50 ml drops to US$116 for Shooting Stars collection and to US$142 for Oud Stars collection instead of USD$ 260 and US$ 325 for full version bottles. Non era poi facile di trovare il negozio che vendesse i profumi ad un mortale come me, ma alla fine sono riuscito ad acquistare tutta la linea dal sito ausliebezumduft.de Devo dire che c'è un sistema per comprare i profumi di Xerjoff al prezzo relativamente molto basso (il prezzo normale della bottiglietta di 50 ml arriva a circa €200-250). Visto che tutta la linea Shooting Stars e la linea Oud Stars sono i capolavori della profumeria artistica, vale la pena a comprare il Shooting Stars - Discovery Sets - Part One and Part Two e Oud Stars Collection - Discovery Set che costano €160 per ciascuno dei primi due e €195 per la collezione Oud. Ovviamente esistono anche i Discovery Sets per XJ17/17 Collection (€255) e per XJ Casamorati 1888 Vintage Collection (€140), ma quest'ultimi a me non piacciono. Nel ciascun set ci sono 6 profumi nelle bottigliette di 15ml e quindi il prezzo per un volume di 50ml crolla a €89 per Shooting Stars collection e €109 per Oud Stars invece di €200 per Shooting Stars e di €250 per Oud Stars.

What a perfume!!? I love Xerjoff creations but this one stands out because of how similar it is to Arabian perfumes. As many have mentioned, it smells animalistic and I completely agree with that. What I disagree with most is that this smell is only due to the Indian oud notes, which smell barn-yardy or faecally. There is another note that you get if you smell goat or sheep hides, this is the smell of ghazal musk (most likely its aroma chemicals here). Most people in the western countries did not have a chance to go to crafts shops where these hides are prepared, which are abundant in certain areas of the Middle East and North Africa. the smell is very animalistic and that's what ghazal musk smells like. There are other sweet notes to tame this down, and as expected they are florals and in this case, it's the jasmine oil added to this gem. I am waiting on the dry down to finish this review and will update accordingly. Update: The dry down is less animalistic and the vanilla can be better smelt there too Update 2: I was just going through the notes breakdown here and noticed they included cashmeran, so what I was describing as ghazal musk is actually the smell of cashmeran, and here is what I found on it from wikipedia "Although cashmeran has been described by some as a polycyclic musk, it is neither primarily a musk odour ingredient, nor does it belong to the polycyclic musk group as defined by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). Although there are woody-musky notes to Cashmeran, its odour is complex[3] with notes that are: rich spicy, fruity, chypre, balsamic and vanilla, overall intended to convey the soft sensuous feeling of cashmere (hence the trade name Cashmeran)"

#516 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Some of these reviews are so nuts that they must be a coordinated hit job on Xerjoff. "Fecal notes?" "Barnyard notes?" Nonsense! The oud here is very mild. People if this oud smells like manure to you, stay away from oud scents because this is at the very conservative end of the scale. God help you if you spray on Reminiscence Oud. So you know that bergamot note in so many orientals, and frags like Invictus and Code Profumo that smells like Kool-Aid Lime powder and Pixie Stix candy? That's going on here, so the listed scents under "smells like", which have no citrus component whatever, are so way off it's like they've never actually smelled this fragrance at all. But like all citrus it disappears in the dry down. All the notes you see listed, you can pick every one of them out. How often does that happen? Once in every fifty fragrances? I'd wear this all day any day. So I like this, but probably have a half dozen scents with this profile already so I don't feel like I have to run right out and buy a bottle. It's a good scent for casual wear in moderate to warm climate. Warm summer night date scent, beach wear. Kinda if Tommy Bahama made EDPs instead of only colognes. But "fecal notes?" "Barnyard notes?" "Horse manure?" You've never been in a barnyard or near an actual horse. "Difficult to wear in warm weather?" Maybe you're over-spraying? This is a good scent though Xerjoff has better. If you don't already own Alexandria II and XJ 1861 Naxos, buy those first.

I was being morbidly curious about those "barnyard" fragrances so I did some reading up on the subject and found out that this one is as dirty and poopy as Satan's seventh anus. Ordered a sample vial, closed my eyes, and sprayed my wrist... This is fantastic. Opens with lovely jasmine and vanilla on a very feminine way which quickly fades into musky oud. Which lasts forever and ever. One tiny spray and it will stay with you for the rest of the day. A warm, rich, fragrance; regal and dignified. You'll feel like a prince in his harem of beautiful women. Or a princess in her harem of beautiful men. Or a prince in his harem of beautiful men. Or a princess in her harem of beautiful women. You get my drift. If I press my nose to my wrist, ascend to a state of oneness with the universe, and inhale deeply... I get a whiff of sweet and pungent manure. It could be the indoles in the jasmine or some other note. It's there but only of you actively look for it. Who would wear this? Aforementioned royalty with a hedonistic streak. Someone bold, mature, but also playful. They know their privileges and responsibilities and they're always follow through... but there's always time for some fun. So this endeavor turned out to be both a loss and a win. I wanted to be grossed out but I found a new favorite. I guess I'll have to look further for the disgusting ones with sweaty crotch, public toilet, leaky ass, and neglected petting zoo. tl;dr – 10 out of 10 decadent bluebloods

This opens with bergamont and jasmine giving the scent that Summer freshness. Then the skanky Laotian Oud comes in to the mix and it does have that barnyard stink. Thankfully this only lasts for ten minutes tops and mostly disappears and you can only smell it ever so slightly. It does add a carnal sensuality under the Summer fresh jasmine accord which dominates and after a while it dissappears. So if you can get past the first ten minutes its not a issue. After a few hours the vanille comes into play and slightly sweetens the jasmine accord without it losing that Summer freshness. The fragrance projects strongly and lasts and the ingredients are top notch. The thing I like about this fragrance which for me makes it stand out is the floral fresh jasmine accord which is perfect for the Summer. Most fragrances have lemon, orange or citrus which makes this one a pleasent change. Though there is no denying that this is more on the feminine side of unisex. Those who are looking for a Oud dominanted fragrance will be disappointed me thinks as it disappears completly forty minutes in. So to sum up a Summer fresh jasmine dominated fragrance which has the skanky Oud for the first forty minutes then disappears completly. Its floral and gets sweeter without losing that freshness which leans towards the feminine side of unisex. I have to say this would smell great on a woman.

This was a blind buy based on reviews and listed notes. I'd never tried the brand before. I was looking for something special, and I found it. The initial blast of jasmine is spectacular and instantly intoxicating. This rich, dewy, juicy opening hangs like ripe fruit in a dense canopy, quickly blooming then layering and transforming. As though we are clambering down towards the forest floor, the faint odour of leaf litter, fur, feathers and droppings, rise to greet our arrival. And yet here too we have that opulent Jasmine, embracing us and loathe to let go. For a while we savor the many contrasting aromas that fragrance the air around us. It will cling to us for hours, the heady mix becoming a dark, voluptuous interplay of oud and floral opiate. But always there, in the background is the raw, the wild, the dirty. This, to my nose at least, is a statement. It is beautiful. Its longevity is the best I've had on my skin. I like a little dirty, my current favourite being Roja H The Black Tier which kicks off with a great barnyard note - but which quickly fades and vanishes. It is skankier, but not better. I think you need to have a nose for oudh that can be quite repulsive to some people and lingers forever. So, this is now in the top 3 fragrances I own. In fact i like it, so much, and my interest in the brand so piqued, I have ordered Zafar and am waiting...

I love this one. It reminded me strongly of something and I realized it was Alien. So I put a little Alien Oud on one hand to compare them. The interesting thing is that although the dirty jasmine of the Al Khat fragrance does resemble that of Alien, it dries down differently after about 4 hours! So I may need to add this to my collection. Still my favorite Xerjoff so far is Alexandria 2- just pure class. I love it. But I love this too and wore my sample all day yesterday. I had ordered a couple others from the X Universe- Ceylon and Luxor. Those are both strong no's for me. This does not smell like horse manure imo or if it does it's faint. I am actually still searching for the oudiest oud, where other notes do not dominate so. But this is a gorgeous stop along the way. Wow.. I am resampling this a week later and I can now smell the horse manure SO STRONGLY. This is an illusion created by the jamine mixed with the oud. I am not sure if I will add this one anymore.. although I do still love that jasmine. CRAZY.

Soo, it takes some willingness to appreciate the blend of attractive notes and in the same time something unpleasant. The first spray I do really not like- this funky wood, but even from the first minutes you can see how this scent can transform into sweet woody and even floral perfume. I am new in the niche fragrances, so it's my first funky Indian oudy scent and out of Mamluk and Ceylon from the Xerjoff house I preferred this one. In the drydown it smells beautifully, after nearly one hour there is sweet wood and no animal notes present at this moment. So I understood one thing, it's not for the average nose or for people who loves designer scents. If you are tired of your sweet trendy, vanilla mass appealing fragrances for winter, totally worth to try this one. Get your sample or try it in the store, keep your mind open and do not smell it very close to the skin, this type of fragrances are all about the aroma trail.

It was me who downvoted the oud as the most noticable note for now. And I'm really happy I could do that! Maybe my passion for middle eastern fragrances has gone too far but I would hardly call this juice an oud fragrance. Oud is present yet very very quiet and down-to-earth. There's a slight fecal effect but I think it comes from the indolic jasmine which steals the show. All notes are amazingly blended to give a full body impression of jasmine with many unusual facets. The longevity is jaw-dropping so be careful when trying it out, you will go to bed with this one! The dry out is very pleasant in its last hours, I got a creamy cocoa acord which may come from the pairing of benzoin and vanilla. Even oud is not present as I hoped, Al-Khatt is very impressive and definitely lovable! First white floral I don't find 'too girly'!

In my opinion Al-Khatt is the best Xerjoff perfume (at least among the ones I've tried). To begin with, it has the most exquisite, sophisticated, and sensual jasmine I have ever smelled in a fragrance. It’s a battle between two forces: a wild oud clashing head-on with that idyllic jasmine, and from that collision, something truly special emerges, which is then grounded by benzoin, acting as a supportive base. This creates a harmonious accord between them and the rest of the notes, resulting in something truly unique. An elegant, unisex fragrance of exceptional quality—one of the few that truly justifies its price and remains worth every penny. It exudes class and sophistication without being overly austere, and it captivates everyone when it lingers in the air. Rating: 10/10

gorgeous, gorgeous fragrance! opens with an intoxicating, beautiful jasmine sambac - sweet, fruity and indolic - and a hint of fresh bergamot. The oud is present from the start, fermented, and barnyardy, it does have a stable nuance. But it is mellow, moderately animalic. Jasmine and oud are woven together, so intertwined that the indole from the jasmine fuses with the oud, and the oud deepens and elevates the jasmine. From some 3h on, just a touch of jasmine remains when cashmeran takes over, soft woody and musky, very textured. The base is a sweet, powdery, slightly resinous vanilla. I can't really smell the oakmoss, but I guess it is what prevents the vanilla from becoming gourmand. Quickly became one of my favorites!

Eski şişe bulursanız kesinlikle deneyin. The perfume is opened with plenty of oud notes and indolic jasmine/bergamot blend. For old bottles, oud not very animalic and smells very quality laos oud. It's quite natural. Animalic feels very backward. It has a very floral and quality composition. Unfortunately, the new bottles are reformed and smells more animal. Definitely try if you find old bottles.

I wasn’t a fan of this the first time I tried it but gave it another go about a year later after I saw someone going off about how good it was during a review. Oh my goodness thank goodness I did because I couldn’t stop smelling myself. This is a super sweet dirty jasmine with an incredible oud base. Feel like a whore every time I wear this; it’s basically sex in a bottle. The barnyard varies strength from wearing to wearing but only adds to the allure. If you let this fragrance come up to you instead of directly smelling it, you won’t notice that as much. But I love that about it. This would be dynamite on a sexy lady as well. Seriously haven’t been this excited about a fragrance in years and had to buy a bottle(s).

So I had a tester 1ml and I hated the animatic notes in this. To be fair I tested it in the summer. But I found myself loving this smell when it started to get colder outside. And year later I am buying a full bottle 50 ml, who knew.. I really think now that there's no better fragrance for the winter time, it has everything man should have, character, class great rich smell, animatic oud or jasmine oil which is not so attractive in the opening this is what makes this fragrance staying for days and days on your clothes, gives it power. When the temperature is low enough, funky smell is not that obvious and what is left is very beautiful floral notes mixed with honey. Most underrated fragrance from Xerjoff.

I've been testing out this one for about a year to see where it fits for me. I love "barnyard" scents and this one gives off the slightest fecal undertone to me. Its not offensive as I work in a very public place and actually I have never received so many positive comments. Co workers like when I walk around our office and I have had customers ask me where to get it. I just bought a full bottle and am happy with the purchase(not the price). To me it is a rich, dirty, creamy flower that gives and gives. The silage is amazing and the staying power is shower worthy. Get a sample and try it for your self. If you like loud scents and don't mind having a strong presence this might be just for you...

The astringent fecal opening eases up in 10 minutes.Afterwards what I detect is a very creamy iris (could be cashmeran since iris is not listed) And after half an hour, you feel yourself as if you are invited by a very elegant old lady to an afternoon tea in her maison right in the middle of a horse range where she serves you a cup of jasmin tea.You smell the iris-mimoza-osmanthus cream that she must have rubbed her hands all the time , accompanied continuously by this faint barnyard smell in the background.After 2 hours the barnyard smell transforms into bitterish marzipan handcream. To me it's a very elegant senior lady fragrance with tamed animalic fecal notes.

Exquisite. One of the most beautiful blends of Oud with jasmine. The notes are further enhanced by addition of bergamot, cashmeran, vanilla, oakmoss, and benzoin. On my skin, there is no indolence detected at all. It is a beautiful blend of jasmine and high quality Cambodian Oud with the other facets lightly lurking in the background. Absolutely beautiful blending with enormous sillage and projection, this perfume is a superb example of Arabian style modern perfumery of the highest order. Immediately transporting you to a higher plane and worth every penny of the overindulgent luxury it is. Absolutely glorious radiant modern Oriental perfumery.

The scent with an amazing development! It starts with a perceivable animalic (oud) note. This can evoke by some associations with a cowshed. But the perfume requires time and patience to be developed! Then the agarwood (of very good quality imo) softens its vigor remarkably, and jasmine with some balsamic notes moves to the center of perception. Oud is only slightly noticeable le at the end, but still gives its woody warm base and “ground” to the perfume. The perfume is highly recommendable to test (as well as the whole Xerjoff’s Oud Star series) for fans of natural oud oriental perfumes.

To people saying it smells like poop, you either gotta drop middle eastern type of oud fragrances that has got real oud used in it, or get ur nose developed before writing here. This is absolutely fantastic fragrance and even tho the oud here is slightly animalic, its more than bearable it tones the fragrance pretty well, without it would become just another white floral sweet, smooth type of vanilla fragrance Also the jasmine absolute used in here is magic that steals the show ( and im not really into floral fragrances as a male, but this is an absolute gem) Easily top 5 Xerjoff OAT.

Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the Nile... I feel like a pimp from the City of Alexandria back in those days, when the pyramids were half-way built. Passing by the cowsheds... Darn fine clothes you are wearin'! But underneath... Still dirty, unapologetic, trying to show off your allegedly generous nature. Carnal! All the attar anointed Salome's are yours! The world is yours! "Your son made it mama, your son’s a success!" Al-Khatt, I can't describe, without using the cuneiform, how much I love thee! PS: I had to sell two of my cows and my mother's Lancôme Tresor.

I love it. Yes, there is a little bit of barnyard in the oud, but only close up. From arms length it's just a nice dark floral note. I think it's very sexy, not everyone would agree and I get that. The only thing that would make it better is if the oud was more musk and less barnyard. Danger from Roja is a perfect example of what I mean. But then, if it smelled like Danger, I would just wear Danger. Edit to add: I just noticed, it becomes VERY woody in the long dry down. The florals and oud disappear into a strong wood. Interesting!

One word for the whole oud stars range: Luxurious. This is like olfactory jewellery. A rich blend of wild jasmine sweet incense bitter vanilla dry soapy vetiver. Thw oud becomes more obvious with time and has sweet presence. Its isnt animalic or thick. Every component is obvious to the nose. However the perfume does not shift a lot. The top notes go off quickly to reveal the opulent heart and base. I can put this one in the category of Roja Amber Oud and MFK Satin Mood and definitely the best out of the 3.

Damn this stuff is NUCLEAR at first spray, then mellows out but still strong. Much stronger than alien oud and leans more masc with the extra oud/oakmoss/ambergris, still unisex though. Super carnal jasmine with equal amounts of wood and ambergris. The vanilla has that animalic quality you get from straight vanilla extract, but balanced with clean bergamot and cashmeran. It's like an old magical wooden chest filled with jasmine and vanilla pods

My favorite Xerjoff and to me, the King of night. This composition has road presence for days, unique style for weeks and has had me enamored with it’s mind and mood altering power since I first got it under my nose. Showcasing the dirty side of a beautiful thing to absolute perfection. Pure Arabian nights magic that makes me feel like Aladin on a date night with Princess Jasmin cruising the star filled skies of Agrabah on magic carpet.

This is so sexy that it is unreal. Yes, it is somewhat similar to Alien, but this is not cold and hallow like Alien. This is full, deep, warm, sensual and just down right sexy...did I mention it's sexy??!! As soon as I opened my sample, I thought "were is my husband when I need him?" It's that good!! Edit: I'm very surprised there is no honey in this... in the dry down it smells like there is.

I love this as a flora, the jasmine is superb, but I don't think it is an Oud Star. The oud is very earthy and animalic but it disappears very quickly. How does o base note like oud behave like a fleeting top note? I don't think it warrants the price tag with oud being the high priced accord and not lasting long enough to satisfy my oud craving. The jasmine is nonetheless superb.

If you think Mugler Alien needs some dirty oud notes, then this is for you. I am surprised this is rated unisex, because it does smell very much like Alien. The oud is very intense and reminds me of manure fertilizer, but it calms down a little as it dries down. I think it's nice and certainly creative, but I wouldn't wear it :) Scent 8/10 Performance 8/10 Versatility 4/10

This isn't barnyardy or animalic-fecal like oud can sometimes be, rather this is indolic, as in the sewers smell, and that comes not from oud, but from jasmine. Much like it does in The Night by Frederic Malle. Undeniably strong indolic facets aside, it wears beautiful, leaves a beautiful vanilla/jasmine/oud trail, and the more you wear it, the more you crave it.

Beautiful scent, great value at discounters. Indolic Jasmine with oud and some sweet caramel-esque undertone, yeah I am sold. Much more wearable than what people suggest, I suppose I would not have enjoyed it during the start of my fragrance journey, at the current moment, I desire a bottle. Living in Sweden, means you can rock this all year round :))

A fruity + jasmine (indolic) + barnyard smell. Excellent stuff. I first put it on, I found it okay. BUT!.. shortly after, wow! Awesome fragrance, and I was sold based on the sample. Got a full bottle shortly after. Probably my favorite Xerjoff so far.

I’m so happy oud doesn’t smell like fecal matter to me bc this smells amazing! Xerjoffs Oud Star line is my absolute fav. It leans a bit fem in the opening spray but the dry down is 100% unisex. FB worthy!

this is amaaaaaazing!! one of the best Oud Frags i have tried!! But its Challenging & can get cloying if over sprayed & used on a hot day.

Oh this is so good! It's DIVINE!!!!!

A very bold, extravagant fragrance, opening with sexy white floral indoles and settling on a thick base of alluring cashmere wood and a touch of benzoin. The cashmere note will be familiar to users of Widian Black I, which is uses rose instead of white florals. I don’t get much oud, apart from a subtle feces note that sits close to the skin in the first 5 minutes. The bulk of the animalics the indoles. Had I not checked the pyramid here I would have guessed the white floral accord was predominantly made up of orange blossom.

I'm not sure if this has been reformulated recently as I smell no Oud in this. To me this smells of just Jasmine, very similar to Alien by Mugler. I layered it with some oud oil and it smells fantastic just wish I got that from the fragrance itself and didn't have to layer. A little disappointing as I expected to get some animalic oud from this fragrance.

Th dirty animalic oud note is prominant but there is some light sweet note as well which is detectable. It is a good oud perfume but this is not really the type of oud I prefer. I like tuned down european-style oud more than the pure oriental oud which is very strong. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection: 8/10

I think I like this. I love the bergamot. The oud is there with the jasmine and I can see how the notes can be misconstrued as barnyard or faecal but it stops short of that to my nose. I think it smells better on my clothes than my skin though.

Very powdery floral oud, slight public restroom vibes (coming from the jasmine). Unisex fem leaning to my nose Smells amazing in the air, up close its great but in the air is where it shines!
