Amber Star

This was a real surprise. I almost certain it was different to a previous time I tested it, but anyhow I will rate it on this try. It opens rich and sweet. That is already a positive. It's a mildly odd sort of sweet; like a sugary but light dessert of some sort. Not too oriental, just sweet and mild, it's a bit like a fragrant rice pudding at the start. A bit starchy, not powdery but appealing and safe even. But then, it develops after an hour into a beautiful rich, still sweet resinous amber. Addiciting and chewy sort, syrupy almost. Also, that dessert accord never really goes away; I like it. I definitely get strong tones of vanilla and benzoin over anything floral and there's near to absolutely nothing pungent, herbal green or oudhy here. It has the faintest whiff of that floral background of HDP's Ambre 114 at the end, which adds a nice touch. But now it's mainly the sweet vanilla and ambegris accords staying. Very impressive. I love amber but am somehow very fussy over them, they have to be Perfect for me, and this one nearly fully does it My rating: 9/10

Osmophor~ you are so right about this fragrance. Never have I been so in love with a fragrance. If it were possible, it would haunt my dreams (in a beautiful way, that is). I have been on the fence about taking the plunge because it is only sold in the cofrette with Star Musk, which I like but the affinity isnt as strong and as compelling as Amber Star. I have purchased other scents, including 24 Gold, trying to come close to this beauty, but to no avail. 24 Gold or Kalemat don't come close, they're not even close to scratching the surface of being on the same level in quality, complexity, presence and overall performance. I have several GWP samples from Luckyscent that I layer with Naxos or Sospiro and have received numerous compliments. Xerjoff knows how to do it right, that's for sure. In the meantime, I'm seriously considering Alexandria II which is equally as lovely.

Sweet? It's not sweet. I don't like being forced to wait at least 3 hours to be able to judge a scent. This opens with a dry, pungent cedar aka; with nuances of rubber tyre. So dull, still, nothing moving. Bland musty greyness almost (is this the 'ambergris'?? Yes the vanilla and ambergris 'come out to play' to make a #beautiful #rich swirl of #cosyness, #refined decadance and #opulent resinous woods - but by that time my girl/date would have long left me after smelling YSL homme on a flamboyant passer-by. Amber Star has, unquestionably, the Xerjoff DNA, It's interesting that the reviews make this one out to be a polarizing scent. I don't find this to be the case at all. It is not in the same league with Black Sukar, but then very few fragrances from any house are. This one seems something that can be worn without offending most who in the room. It is one of the best ambergris fragrance I have tried. It is long lasting but not a silage beast. I am glad to have tried this one and will consider purchasing a full bottle. It is unisex and can be worn in any season. This is a Chris Maurice that is special.

Such a beautiful scent. Xerjoff sent me a few samples for free after a few emails. i have to say this is such a beautiful night out scent preferablly formal. It's a load of woods and vanilla with hits of ambergris. Off the Top cedar and Ylang with the vanilla creeping up right behind it. I wore this out to my cousins wedding at Malibu beach in the evening this radiates a mile away. If they sold this scent by itself i would purchase it right now. Would i buy the box set which retails for $850.00 absolutely not. Definitely a compliment getter and panty dropper.

Testing my sample; this is a churchy and richly balsamic perfume balanced with heavily animalic musk accords that reminds me of warm and slightly sweaty skin. Must be the ambergris because that note never fails to remind me of sweaty skin lol. Goes on incredibly strong and balloons as it sits and warms up on my skin, gets more vanillic and powdery as it develops. Cool/cold weather only, this is perfect for a frigid winter day or an icy autumn night. Only needs body heat to be enjoyed.

Opening is amber spicy, with almost a hint of leather, and then it moves into an almost fruity amber myrrh. I don't usually love ylang ylang, but here I think it is what creates a gorgeous floral freshness that almost feels fruity. In the background the vanilla and sandalwood adds a lovely sweetness. This scent just keeps getting better and better each time I try it.

Divine scent. Opening with rich dry cedar notes and unobtrusive ylang. After a while ambergiris and vanilla are dancing in harmonious symphony. On my skin so soft, rich and balmy. Since I am not familiar with guaiac or gurjan notes, I dare to say that they are those unknown notes enriching this elegance with exotic warm sensuality. So smooth.

This is a masterpiece. Truly amazingly crafted. Everything blends in perfectly. I'm this close to buying some mls from a sample site cause Im never going to buy the set. The star musk just ain't worth it. Layered with star musk is also amazing but not because of sm. 10/10

Got this and Star Musk samples from luckyscent a few days ago. It does resemble 24 Gold, and I do like it a lot. This mixes well with Star Musk, and easily lasts 12+ hours on me. If I hit the jackpot in the Powerball I'll think about it.....

Great balmy scent. Superb quality of ingridients! It has prominently the Xerjoff "handwriting". Has an outstanding longevity. Reminds me in some notes of Kabul Aoud by Montale.

I swear I’d have had the full bottle of this in my hand If they didn’t sell it as a part of a set! Only got myself a vial now. It’s so intoxicating, grand and everything rich!

Amber gold standard. Such an amazing scent. Too bad it's not sold solo, otherwise I'd be all over it.

Opulent and regal. I wouldn’t describe it as an amber scent. Actually it is not amber but ambergris. I don’t know how ambergris smells but because of the perfumes I smelled that has ambergris in it, I can say that they have something in common and ambergris is absolutely there. It gives an animalic and sexy vibe. But not harsh civet or castoreum. Overall I think it is more vanillic than anything else. It is very sweet. I can detect some florals too, but minor. Projection and longevity is amazing. Everybody notice you. Once I sprayed it a bit much, and I could smell it when I iron my shirt after I washed. It is very sexy and very classy. Normally I don’t find sweet fragrances classy. I love them but not find them classy. But this one is very sweet and very classy at the same time. It is totally unisex. Men can find it a bit sweet without spices but women would adore it. I don’t find it middle eastern or Arabic but I bet people from there would love it. Sometimes you can’t describe how it smells but you can draw a picture so others can understand you. This is what I draw; opulent arabesque palaces with golden decoration with black velvets, people in suits and nightdresses with golds accessories scream money and luxury. Gold everywhere... Yes, this smells like money. The only downside is it has to come with a very average sibling. It doesn’t smell like 24 gold, Kalamat or Oud save line but in the same genre. Better than them. 7/10

#1011 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is nice, but I don't love it. Standard amber and wood scent with a tinge of sharpness from the ylang ylang that hangs on a surprisingly long time, or at least longer than you usually get. It's a long lasting scent. Give it that. And it initially projects a good four feet. But all in all it's pretty unremarkable. Certainly car pool, elevator, small office safe, and versatile enough for any use, but the pricing is just nuts. You can get four or more great scents for this kind of money. With a $400+ price tag this stuff should be incredible, but it is not incredible at all. You can get this minus the performance with ScentStory's "24 Gold" EDT for $30, or the much better performing EDP "24 Gold Oud Edition" for around $45. Tiziana Tirenzi has a couple with this vibe that are more complex and floral, "Nero Oudh", that runs about $120, and "Talitha" that's much fresher and more citrus forward (too much so for some), more of a summer scent, with real Calabrian bergamot, not that synthetic crap, that runs about $105. Bois 1920 has "Oro Bianco" that's in this vein for under $100. This won't be a bottle buy for me. Probably wouldn't be if it were priced above $100. Definitely would be an insane blind buy.

After reading most of the reviews regarding Amber Star, I have come to the assumption no one really understands exactly how you are supposed to wear it! I was one of these people until I decided to read the description on Xerjoff’s official website. Amber Star was created for layering. Either between its counterpart, Star Musk, or as an addition to any other fragrance that would benefit from a powdery, resinous composition. The function of Amber Star is to gently enhance, and to do that, the fragrance needs to provide a gentle embellishment. I have read numerous comments that this fragrance is too linear or that it doesn't speak to them. However, I think that's the point. On its own, I don't think Amber Star can hold its own weight, but when it's combined with something else, it can be really beautiful. I agree they need to separate the two fragrances so that you can purchase either one without having to pay $650. Perhaps they can provide a free sample of one or the other if they really want you to experience the two together. At this point, the fragrance community I'm sure has combined countless fragrances and has created unique elixirs and potions that I think Xerjoff may need to tip their cap and move on.

Woody-ambers again, but made the star of the fragrance this time (see what I did there?). Thankfully, it isn't an abrasive, obnoxiously loud accord despite taking centre stage. It leans more towards the metallic-saline effect of ambergris than the earlier mentioned fragrances, however. It provides a nice contrast against the subtly vanillic benzoin base, and has a rather addictive quality. Is it worth the price? Not to me, especially since you have to buy it in a set with Star Musk. But will I keep sniffing the blotter? Yes.

A resinous Oriental beauty, this perfume showcases a lovely ambergris. It opens with the ambergris surrounded by slight hints of ylang-ylang and cedar. The heart is mostly gurjun balsam resin surrounded by slight myrrh and guaiac wood. The perfume settles into a powdery vanilla and benzoin base with slight hints of sandalwood and opoponax resin. Very sweet, dreamy, and happy perfume. Unisex slight feminine leaning with moderate projection and sillage and excellent longevity. Enjoy!

Nice myrrh-vanilla-sandalwood fragrance. I do agree it is similar to 24 Gold as others stated but in style rather than quality, as the quality is easily noticeably better here. Similar to a couple of the Atkinsons "Oud" in that vein too, but Amber Star has a punchier myyrh-vanilla aspect than those, which I prefer. A good one, I probably wont upgrade from sample given I own a few already like this but I think it's excellent quality.

Amber & Animalic Vanilla. Thick, Complex, Rich in substance, very rich indeed. Has something similar to Oud Save the King. This could be a distant cousin/relative to Initio's Side Effect as well. Longevity is beyond excellent. Currently contemplating between a love and just a like. I really don't see a person under 33-34 wearing this. Wish this could be released on its own.

Rich, complex, woody, smokey, animalic, with crazy performance on my skin, even after shower. Smell like many perfumes and like any parfum in the same time, the richness do this to it. Beautiful overall, smell definitely classy and mysterious, not like MFK Grand Soire (the best amber for me) more like Miroir des Majestes from Mugler. 8/10 fragrance for me.

Spicy, woody amber opening. Rich balsams, a touch of vanillic sweetness, the faintest glimmer of animalic undertones. Ylang-ylang adds a yellow floral touch after a few minutes, then it's linear. Moderately strong projection for 2-3hr, limping through a fourth hour, longevity 9-11hr.

A smooth and buttery Amber, I can see why this is needed with a layer. Haven’t tried Star Musk with it but it’s simple in nature and incredibly smooth!

I recently got a sample of this fragrance. I think it's good, but not as much as they say in other reviews. I expected more amber, but what stands out here is sandalwood, cedar and myrrh, which ends up giving this fragrance a very oriental profile. I'm beginning to think the Xerjoff house isn't quite to my taste. Again this perfume strikes me as more feminine than unisex. It's good, but not worth the price. Even worse if you have to buy the set.

One of the resinousy/balsamy fragrances par excellence, so of course the longevity is nuclear (the projection was still moderate after a chlorine-filled jacuzzi and showering). It was however not as smooth a scent as I had hoped for it to be. Too bad also that it is married to star musk which I couldn't bear after one hour.

It smells nice, nothing groundbreaking for me, actually it's reminding me the smell of designer perfume - Givenchy Gentleman. It's still a rich smelling scent, but I have other favorites from this brand :)

this isnt as thick and resinous as MFK grand soir(which i like) its lighter and more airy, also a bit more woody has moderate projection but it lasted many hours on my skin

It is a but too sweet for my liking as a man. But then again this is Xerjoff... sweetness is basically a common trait. I would say this is strictly cold weather perfume.

This have enormous longevity but the scent reminds me of a designer's approach to amber. Similar to D&G Intenso, but more unisex. Unfortunately, not very memorable.

It just seems like vanilla lip balm to me, nothing too great but also not bad. I do wish you could buy it seperately from Star Musk

Ok I was so excited about this one..Sorry to see the weak performance on my skin. Its a skin scent after an hour..Huge disappointment..I was expecting some sweet resinous amber with some woods in the background but this..is aint that. Not resinous and it has a cool air. I like the complexity though, but still something missing..Benzoin is almost undetectable..It is unisex I'd say but would be so much better if it was a little more sweeter.

This is a strange one for me. Unpleasant churchy smell, overly sweet. The mix of sweetness/balsamic, ambergris, opoponax (and the other resins) is just stomach turning. I would highly recommend sampling this one before buying. Overrated in my opinion and not worth the price.

Am i the only one who smells offensive alcohol?i got nothing like what the other reviews said, might be something wrong with my nose, and the performance... omg i cant even scrub off the smell with alcohol....help i really want to love it

High-class, powdery warm vanilla, not masculine, a bit boring to me. Not worth the money. - i stand corrected. after 20 hours & 1 shower, it smells like granny sweat.... - after 40 hours & 3 showers, I still smell it on my wrist... but, at last, the bad smell is mostly gone - 5 days have passed and I still got some faint stench on my wrist... I this thing safe at all?

A great fragrance hamstringed by incomprehensible marketing and pricing. This could easily be one of Xerjoff's top-selling scents. It is a rich, smooth, dark, elegant amber that smells, like others have noted, like MFK's Grand Soir with some added complexity. Namely, an exotic floral touch from ylang-ylang and a slight saltiness from ambergris that fades as the fragrance progresses from the powerful opening to the comfy, cozy drydown. There is not a lot of progression in this fragrance, but the dominant accord is incredibly pleasant. Warm, ever so slighly spicy, resinous, woody, dark, creamy, sweet, and very attractive. I could see this as a more formal variant of Grand Soir, which would do quite well dressed to the nines on a cold winter's night. Performance is not an issue. I get 9+ hours of longevity, a few good hours of projection, and solid sillage. The decision to bundle this with Star Musk boggles the mind. On the Xerjoff Universe website, there are plenty of bundles. I don't object to the fact that it's bundled with another fragrance. But why ONLY sell this fragrance in a bundle? And for $700? It just doesn't make any sense to me. If this was available at the standard 50ml €197, or even €220 for some of the more expensive offerings, like the recent MV Augusta, would be more justified. I can almost guarantee that this would sell well, a great competitor for Grand Soir and a solid offering in the realm of amber fragrances. Instead, almost nobody will ever smell this. I really like Amber Star, and would buy it if the price was less crazy, but at $700 and bundled with Star Musk, it's a yikes for me. 8.5/10 for the scent itself 3/10 for value for money

Fragrance -Amber Star Xerjoff Bottle from - 2015 He's got that passionate,sophisticated and a bit mysterious vibe going on. This is a story about a warm,woody,ambery and resinous vanilla enchanted with some kind of sweet and sexy ylang-ylang magic. Longevity - 10/10(10+ hours) Silage/Projection - 9/10(heavy projection and silage for the first 3-4 hours,than sits closer to skin for the duration of the scent's evolution) Weather -best in autumn,winter and early spring. Age - 25+ Compliments - 7/10 Scent - 9/10 Main notes according to me - vanilla,benzoin,ambergris,ylang-ylang,guaiac wood,cedar. The drydown is sensual,resinous and woody and I get some -sandalowood,resins,vanilla and benzoin. Emotions - dark vibe elegance,passionate,sophisticated,mysterious. Occasion -perfect for semi-formal events,special occasions and nights out. Try before you buy.

Ohhh I wish the top notes lasted forever !!! That Ylang and ambergris combo is too die for !!! I love Grand Soir but if Amber Star was only about the top notes, I would prefer Amber Star. Unfortunately Amber Star becomes a skin scent just after the top notes (around 15 min after initial spray) whereas Grand Soir has better projection. Also Amber Star and Grand Soir dry down are really similar, Amber Star leans on the sugary side (vanilla + myrrh) and Grand Soir is warmer and more comforting (vanilla + tonka) I prefer Grand Soir dry down, projection, longevity and price ! Also you can buy Grand Soir in 11 ml size whereas Amber Star is only sold with Musk Star (which smells dreadful on me 🤢) Sample first and buy a decant but Amber Star is not full bottle worthy to me.

It's a great scent! The best I have ever smelled but at that price tag, you should consider 24 Gold. It smells nearly identical but you can tell that Scentstory didn't put quality ingredients like Xerjoff did. I did get several compliments and women wanting to sit next to me due to the scent. Though I did layer this scent as it was intended with Star Musk. Too expensive to wear casually but it's a great date and club fragrance. I could see this being worn in moderation for formal occasions as well. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 10/10 Compliments: 11/10 Versatility: 5/10

First spray is like an exotic Christmas sugar cookie. Sweet & Spicy. About 2 hours in the thick sweet spicy vanilla scent became cloying and overpowering. I wanted to wash it off but powered through. The scent moved into a 10 year old caramel candy. Seven hours in and the smell has devolved into an old caramel mixed with aged wood church pews.It is definitely a long lasting fragrance as most Xerjoff perfumes are and super pricey so you have to LOVE it. Not a gourmand fan so not my jam. Honestly I couldn't stand myself all day long.

I got a sample from a store here, it is authentic Xerjof sample with the box etc. Whatever I do it's just doesn't last. On my skin it is a skin scent 1 hour after spray. Maybe it's not made for cooler weather (+12C) or my nose gone South :( Unfortunately as much as I want to love it, Amber Star is just another amber fragrance like so many out there. I can't believe this sounds like a negative review because the fragrance smell good. Fragrance 7/10 Longevity 3/10 (on my skin) Price 2.5/10

Gorgeous ambergris, usually I am put off by this note as not many frags can pull it off (on my skin anyway) typically it becomes too animalic and rather skanky. This here is more of a pheromone / musky which xerjoff has in many of it's frags. Quality benzoin and vanilla beneath, but like some other xerjoffs the huge fireworks wow factor opening the drydown is a touch underwhelming.

This is very, very musky. It has an oily sheen to it when you spray it. Sweet and woody but not spicy. They used a ton of musk in this and not ambroxan at all. No sour civet or inky castoreum. Lots of myrrh and heavy fluffy musk. Still though it’s not at all loud, musky doesn’t equal strong. I like it a lot but for the price this is very light and I won’t buy a full bottle.

This is in the same family as MFK Grand Soir. This however is a vanillic ambergris instead of a labdanum amber.Amber Star is more skanky sexy. Grand Soir seems more crowd pleasing and Amber Star is more dark and mysterious. Both are really nice and tomorrow I might try layering my samples. That might extend the longevity of Amber Star and make it worth the $700 price tag.

I can easily say that this one is without any doubt one of the best head-turning woody floral ambery Fragrance around. Suitable for Cold weather and Special occasions. Price tag?!lets not talk about it:)) Sillage and longevity?monsterous --------------------------------------------------------- 7/10

A message to Xerjoff : it's about time Amber Star divorced Star Musk. Honestly, separate those two as Star Musk now is blocking Amber Star from intoxicating many owners who would buy it at the first given opportunity. Star Musk is just a very expensive baggage you don't necessarily want to take on
