Damarose

For me this is undoubtedly The Queen of Roses. I'm a sucker for rose centered fragrances and they come in all sorts of forms and shapes. Or should I say: concentrations, formulations and from different corners of the world. We have pure, innocent roses like Diptyque Eau Rose, we have roses who pretend to be loud but are in fact shy: Juliette has a Gun Midnight Oud, we have hidden roses Amouage Lyric (sorry but I cannot smell rose there!), we have slutty roses pretending to be ladies FM Portrait of a Lady, we have rose that will carnage your nostrils Armani Prive Rose d'Arabie, we have mysterious, spicy hot roses Guerlain Rose Nacree du Desert, we have roses that smell almost like armpits: LL Rose 31. The cool, restrained and refined rose in Pierre de Velay no11 and the hot, sunny, optimistic rose in Xerjoff Emery. And so on and on... And then then there is XJ Damarose. My first thought when I smelled it was: this is royal. This one is few steps above any rose I've ever smelled. It's sophisticated, alluring, captivating and its beauty almost made me cry. It's not loud and it's not quite. It doesn't demand attention but it's impossible not to notice it. It's smooth, mellow and almost warm but also cool. It seems to be so close to you and yet somehow it's also distant. It's like the best of all roses you smelled before but it's none of them. To me Damarose whispers: here I am, the way I am, the best I am. I fell in love with this scent! Update 1: managed to get a sample of this o Ebay. I got so excited I accidentally splashed almost third of it on my neck. (Damn!). But dear lord I do smell heavenly. Update 2: Got the FB. I love this scent to bits. My friends love it. Everybody loves it! And dear lord, it lasts and lasts, and lasts. 10-12 hours at least and that's with my skin that loves to eat scents... so not really sure why others had issues with longevity?...

Wow!!! Where do I even begin with this stellar offering...?!?! Damarose is all about rose... Damarose opens with fruit but this is a sweeter fruit note than many rose-based offerings... I.M.O, it is the right choice to lead into the heart. It's a beautiful Turkish rose that is at the heart of Damarose and it is simply gorgeous. However, this rose does not stand alone, it has an equally adorable partner- jasmine sambac, which pairs perfectly together..... The presence of the jasmine adds foundation to the rose and creates an unusual depth in the heart of the fragrance..... Rose and ylang-ylang are the primary notes that my nose picks up coming out of the fruit and at this point Damarose starts to smell oh so familiar- yes, like so many other rose fragrances out there. This sambac jasmine, not only pairs with the Turkish Rose, it actually starts to dominate the composition and seems to meld into one intense sort of rose-like accord. Damarose is just a CLASSIC ROSE CHYPRE!!! For me, it is very sexy, very seductive; and yet, at the same time it's poised, sophisticated and elegant............ If the price of $645+ does not deter you, then please do add this masterpiece to your collection and wear it when sheer elegance is called upon......

Absolutely stunning rose but the price is ridiculous. I might pay 2-400 for this, but 645? Sigh. Noped right out of there. I am very envious of those of you who can afford this, however. It really is a rose that combines the best elements of the flower- it is sweet, cool, noticeable and very luxurious smelling. It's not really a jammy rose or a dark rose, more like a rich raspberry rose. The "coolness" of the scent keeps it from being cloying or too strong. Despite me describing it as cool, warmer facets come out to play after a while-- it is strengthened and heated up by the amber, giving it a super sensual, languid type of feeling. Recommended to at least test for all who love rose.

Damarose is classic feminine rose chypre fragrance, a type of fragrance known for its balance of seduction and poise. It's is a lovely, soft and romantic type rose with a trail of ambar and musk that evolves into a fresh and dignified rose bouquet wrapped in what almost smells like fresh wood shavings. I wish it could last a little longer on my skin, but even so it is a unique rose fragrance that you certainly should have.

Imagine a damascus rose together with a baby powder grounded in a pestle. A green petaly rose on the opening with a dusty iris and calming drydown. This is what you smell when classy millionaires pass by that wears mostly white. It leans a little bit feminine. Smooth, mellow, royal and sophisticated.

One of the most perfect, wonderful Rose scents in the world of perfume. Rose is fresh, refreshing and radiant. The only reason that stops me from buying it is that it is too expensive.

Very nice perfume but on that costly price it should b stay longer, i bought it and like it but never buy again due to poor longevity X high price.

All the Xerjoff are interesting for some reason. they have many and all different. i don't smell too many duplicates in this line, which IMO it's sign of some "work" behind. They are very concentrated and longlasting and also well-layered. Damarose was the one that especially attracted me as a rose-lover. I'm no expert to say if it's 100% rose. Maybe they use a higher dose of naturals together with chemicals, I don't know. Anyway Damarose is a special rich luxurious rose that stayed on my skin until washing away several hours later and beyond. The overall effect is about rose or rose-based perfume. The rest of the composition is beautiful but very blended in. It's an elegant and sophisticated scent. I don't own it but I enjoyed multiple sprays from testers and every time, even after a few years, it keeps me with nose on my wrist.

Delina la Rosé is a very good comparison, just without the watery notes. Damarose is rosy-berry-ylang-ylang sweetheart. Not my style but I can totally see this becoming a popular fragrance. I would say it's even blind buy safe. I wasn't fan of Delina either so if you like it, this might be right up your alley.

This is a classy classic calming rose that is not offensive at all. I don’t know which note makes me feel it is plasticky at the end which turned me off of this perfume. I have a decant of it but I don’t think I’ll be buying a whole bottle any soon. Longevity is good, however the price is painful.

Uncomplicated clear rose. A little green and fresh, with classic sweetness. what's not to like. oil is better than EDP

This is a soft, non unique fragrance. It's a musky rose. I agree today it's slightly dated. Nothing special.

I am not the biggest fan of Xerjoff as a whole, however the 17/17 Stone Collection has always been the exception; and so, my expectations were high with Damarose - unfortunately they were not met. This does not convey the same elegance and flair of other perfumes in this range. It’s rosy, yes. It’s a bright pink soapy rose, amplified by a buttery ylang and white florals. However this strong base of woody white musks make it smell very much like baby wipes, which doesn’t dissipate at any point. It still smells clean, soapy, powdery, but in a sterile and almost clinical way. Unfortunately this really doesn’t live up to the standards laid out by the other Stone Labels like Richwood, Pikovaya Dama, Irisss etc.

Rose soliflores tend to have to toe a fine line; a little too much geranium EO and it becomes too airy, sweet, and green - on the other hand, if your hand inadvertently trembles while adding spicy-balsamic notes, it becomes a floral pomander. This one does lean more towards the geranium side, but nevertheless achieves a reasonable balance between the two sides of rose with a splash of Xerjoff's trademark woody-amber base, and is a pleasant, if not mind-blowing, sweet rose fragrance.

Just ok. There’s much better rose fragrances out there

Hmmmm. I'm getting hints of the Emperor's New Clothes about this. I got a sample set of Xerjoff-perfumes, not the oils- and I have to say so far I'm not particularly impressed. Damarose is a pretty, pleasant, slightly old fashioned rose. It's a fresh floral, rather than being powdery, and its sweet without being jammy or fruity. I don't get any of the sophistication, the luxurious tones, the impression of sensuality that others seem to-to me this is like something a Disney Princess would wear, maybe Snow White. The sillage and longevity are hopelessly poor-its immediately a skin scent on me, and it lasted less than an hour (3 good sprays on one wrist). I love rose notes, but I genuinely fail to see how this can be worth the gobsmacking price of a full bottle. Maybe I have a cheap nose?

SIgh. I wanted this to be my “holy grail” rose but it is more of my “collectable movie drink tumbler” rose. Damarose is nice, there’s nothing offensive about it, I like the berry and rose combo and it’s...fine. “Fine” doesn’t cut it at this price point by a wide margin though and frankly even knowing this fragrance, I wouldn’t be able to pick it out of a lineup of cheapie rose fragrances or bath and body works lotions from the late 90’s. It’s generic for what it is. Performance isn’t great either. Tauer’s Phi un rose de kandahar, Roja Rose, Jo malone Velvet Rose and Oud, Amouage Lyric, House of Matriarch Kazimi, parfums de marly akaster-all these roses have very distinct characters and vibes and are recognizable as special for notably less money than this Damarose is asking. If I’m being brusque; Damarose smells FAR more in line with the “perfume outlet” staple cheapie: Karen lowe silver. Scent: 5/10: it isn’t offensive or poorly done but it is achingly generic and I need an olfactive asprin. Projection: 6/10 for a little while but dies off to close encounter and then skin scent within an hour or so. Sillage: 7/10 for the first half hour, so if you need to make an entrance, keep a decant with you but if you are a busy adult with many important things to do-this will not keep up as it quickly dies down. Longevity: 7/10 credit where it’s due, it lasts an acceptance amount of time if you don’t mind it just being a skin scent (for this price) and that is commendable. Would I buy a full bottle: hell no. I’ve got six bottles of $35 karen lowe silver I use to spray my towels and it works just as well and doesn’t smell that far off to warrant buying Damarose.

This is a review based on my first encounter with the pure perfume oil of Damarose in Murano glass bottle. When I first smelled it on paper, it was a straight forward rose chypre with prominent fresh powdery rose. After about 30 minutes, it became just a bit sweeter with hints of a slightly tart berry note but without much development. I then tried it on the back of my hand and it smelled totally different. It opened with quite fresh, green, peppery, slightly bitter and zesty citrus notes among a delicate fresh rose note. As the oil develop, the rose note became more prominent among other green, sweet and slightly powdery floral notes. The floral heart is most elegant and can be worn daily or in formal occasions. Although this fragrance leaned towards the feminine side, IMHO it could definitely be worn by a well groomed man who is confident of himself. I tried pairing it with the perfume oil of Xerjoff Homme and it worked out wonderfully as well. After wearing Damarose for about five hours, the soft, woody, ambery and musky base notes started to come forward to enhance the sensual floral phase of the fragrance. I am now in the seventh hour of Damarose and it is still smelling wonderful on my skin. I would recommend any serious rose fragrance lovers to at least try this absolutely gorgeous fragrance. As a matter of fact, I love this perfume oil so much that I ordered myself a bottle of it despite its outrageous price.

Because I thought I was missing out on the highly touted Xerjoff perfume house, I ordered a few decants from Lucky Scent so that I could get a sampling of their wares. First and foremost, it is apparent that the quality is exceptional and certainly great effort has been put into packaging, but from the several samples I have tested, as far as originality at a niche level,the price tag is far from justified! Damarose is a very lovely, sweet and fruity concoction that would please anyone who enjoys that genre of fragrance. It begins with a very syrupy rose (I love!) which may be the result of the amber note and promises to go beautiful places! But it stops dead in its tracks with a burst of the red berries and then fizzles away into something similar to one of the many L'Occitane rose/berry eau de toilettes. Nothing wrong with that if you happen to be on an heiress's budget.

This one is for all you rose lovers! Any surprises there? What's interesting here, however, is how I found it to compare to Xerjoff Rose Gold. Initially on its own, it seemed nearly identical! Then I re-tested Rose Gold on my other arm. The difference I'm picking up is that this Damarose is a dryer rosey scent anchored by some rosewood & hints of jasmine; Rose Gold is just straight wet rose in a bottle. Therefore, Damarose has a little more depth but still quite rosey. Damarose's sillage seems a little bit weaker than Rose Gold and unfortunately weaker performance as well. It's not bad, could be a nice skinscent. But, would you pay Xerjoff money for a potential skinscent?

Ok.... Ok.... These below reviews are completely idiotic.... This smells almost identical to Alexandria 2 with all the sharpness taken out and orris butter added.... Going on the 14th hour of this sprayed twice on clothing and it’s still projecting just like Alexandria..... this is nuclear and staying power is on 15/10 this is beautiful rose up top and Alexandria 2 on the dry down last for hours on hours very similar to Alexandria 2 and richwood! Beautiful masterpiece

High on the list of "must-haves". Had it been in stock it would have wrapped up, paid for and taken home in a jiffy with an enormous smile. Freshly delicate and warm with a lasting feeling of being enveloped in the joy of wearing kashmir.

This smells like early 2010s dove shampoos, powdery vintage rose scent. Lovely opening but the dry down gives me the impression that I haven’t rinsed the shampoo off my hair thoroughly.

a very very nice fragarnce. tough sillage is not sufficiant for such an expensive perfume . for everyday use. also suitable for hot weather.
