Luxor

Mysterious, rich gem. Opening feels like you are exploring a mangroves and eucalyptus Thai or Cambodian forest (I see quite an inversion in the pyramid as disclosed from the house), with a fresh, green, earthy and balsamic and almost medicinal and camphor feeling overall. Some smoke stains in the humid and striking air, shiny sun is high in the sky and charred woods after a burn which are exuding resins from their burnt barks, maybe caused by a lightning bolt some days before. You start your voyâge just trying to make your own way through the woods, trees - in other words, through the wild. After approximately one hour, scenario finally changes. You can finally see the sunlight, but you are at the doors of the desert. In the distant, close to the horizon, you can see the Giza pyramids through the hot air, with a volatile, translucent dust with dense and incense - myrrh-like qualities and smell, subtly lingering an hint of pipe tobacco, dry patchouli, harsh leather and cardamom on a spicy, cinnamon and sandalwood bed. Maybe, if you are fortunate enough, you could survive the nocturnal journey up to the other side... It evokes the idea of a rich, sun charred and freezing at once, meditative desert. Very original, exotic, for high experienced people only and just for some special occasions. Not versatile, but it really shines and has an interesting twist. Don't know if I will ever buy a full bottle, but if you like it, it could be without doubt a luxurious and particular addiction to your collection. Majestic.

This was a blind buy, and a successful one at that! They utilized myrrh in every way in this fragrance.. let me get this clear, if you LOVE resins especially myrrh, this is worth a sample/decant. Top: It starts off with this beautiful smokiness from the incense and the myrrh adds a deep resinous trait, the Cambodian oud is also presented with a bit of sweetness in the opening, there's an amazing dose of dry Ceylon cinnamon, and there's a bit of tobacco that adds dryness throughout its life. Mid: The Cambodian oud and Ceylon cinnamon take a step back and doesn't provide sweetness anymore, and you're left with an authentic smokey church incense. This is probably the most challenging part of the fragrance for my personal taste. Dry down: The Thai oud starts to feel more present from here. The cypriol oil comes in, sort of gives FM Promise vibes (but definitely not as sharp) Now for my favorite part.. the FAR dry down 6-8 hours later; at this point, everything is gone except for the dryness from the tobacco, myrrh, and Thai oud. Myrrh comes off as both root beer and licorice, the whiffs in the air make it a gamble of what you're gonna smell from it. This is a myrrh MASTERPIECE, I've been looking for a myrrh fragrance and I just happened to blind buy something that does all of it, lucky me. The oud here is mainly a supporting note for me, its definitely there but the myrrh is the star of the fragrance. I personally don't get anything barnyard/fecal about this fragrance.

Sacred Smoke, is the best way to summarize LUXOR by Xerjoff, a part of the Oud Stars Collection, paying homage to one of Egypt’s treasures, the mystical city of Luxor. As for the fragrance, it is built around a sweeter variety of cambodian oud and resins, Luxor is the type of perfume that transports you back in time, there’s a sense of mystery and antiquity in the way in which the resins are layered out in the composition alongside the spices and oud, displaying a slight animalic flare at the opening, carrying into a heart dominated by a duality of myrrh and incense wrapped in cardamon, and subtle presence of cinnamon adding a hint of sweetness. Luxor comes across as a very dry perfume, as it diffuses in the air, it smells like a combination of the hot dry desert and old books found in sacred temples, Xerjoff utilized precious materials that are thousands of years old yet they managed to combine them with exotic spices such as cinnamon and cardamom to add a modern spin to this fine essence. Luxor is undeniably unique, a departure from previous Oud Stars, and is not going to be a fragrance for everyone, if you’re looking for a lot of compliments, you can certainly go for other fine essences such as Erba Pura and Alexandria II, Luxor is more like a transportive work of art, a storytelling perfume.

Xerjoff Luxor is a 10-out-of-10 composition by the omnipresent Chris Maurice that falls within the Oriental Spicy genre. This fragrance, inspired by ancient Egyptian grandeur, is distinctly non-mainstream, and might turn some noses away... but definitely not mine. The opening is a complex array of sharp cinnamon and cardamom and leather. This swiftly matures into the heart, featuring a blend of rich, dark myrrh resins, smoky incense, and a robust pipe tobacco, grounded by dry atlas cedar. Luxor's foundation is a combo of woody thai oud and jammy-sweet cambodian oud. Together, they create nuanced animalic base. Performance is solid: Luxor consistently delivers over eight hours of longevity on skin. Its structure, which in my experience gains a "better push" in warmer conditions, makes it a rare, versatile oud that works well beyond typical cold-weather use. In my opinion, Luxor is one of Xerjoff's best and you should sample it if you are looking for a mature, complex fragrance that brings tobacco and oud(a) together in a unique way.

Cinnamon and cardamom opening. Its a nuclear opening but very quickly calms down to arms length maybe less. Heart and base u get tobacco a touch of incense and a relatively sweet oud. Honestly to me this isn’t animalic but thats just me. To me almost oud isn’t animalic just certain types of old indian oud. So u need to figure out ur oud tolerance from soft thai and malaysian ouds to hardcore assam ouds. I went through an entire bottle of this fairly quickly. If it had a bigger sillage I would’ve definitely rebought. It’s also a pity it only comes in 50ml. On a final note the dupe Thailand Oud in Cairo will have a great opening but the performance on that is miserable compared to the barely tolerable performance of luxor. Also addressing Mr. Mahdi Ellahi this in no way shape or form smells like “kaleh pache” which is basically a slow cooked broth of the sheep skull, brains, tongue and cheek. There is zero “kaleh pache” smell here to my nose.

Sorry, I have to change my vote from "Dislike" to "Love". Yes, it opened with a blast of stanky animalistic smell but you will definitely feel high-quality thailand oud in here, very deep natural smelling. The best part is the drydown. I'm so glad that I gave it a second chance and time to develop on my skin. Oud and leather blend beautifully with tobacco, cinnamon, myrhh, and cypriol to create a perfect balance of salty animalic tone and green spicy semi-sweet warmth yet dry enough from the smoky incense to evoke the sense of mystery like you are standing in ancient Egyptian desert. This fragrance is very exotic and elegant but not for everyone. Particularly suited for bold and powerful personalities.

Dare I say this is THE definitive "Egyptian market" scent? It is literally everything it claims to be: tobacco, myrrh, Thai Oud, Cypriol oil and cinnamon literally in equal doses, sweetened by fresh cardamom and elevated by incense. All the notes are detectable, weaving in and out of each other in every waft now and then. It is fresh, yet ancient, mouthwatering, yet as dry and hot as an Egyptian desert. The oud is super authentic but not as dirty as it could be. I wouldn't call this a safe scent to spray in any occasion, but I would call this a safe blind buy. Worst case scenario you can totally spray it on at home and enjoy a personal trip to ancient Egypt.

What a fragrance Luxor is!!! I'm really amazed and this is a love from the first sniff. It's been a very long time since a fragrance amazed me. Upon the initial spray it immediately evokes ancient glorious cultural vibes that truly represents Luxor. When I say ancient I don't mean incense church vibes not at all but airy sandy gothic mysterious pharos vibes. This is oud taken to another level, very spicy comforting alluring and inviting. Oud haters don't get turn off this is very seductive and sexy fragrance. Longevity: 12+ hrs eaisly Silage: extremely cloudy and fills the room Projection: 4hrs

I went through 50ml of this. It’s a lovely spiced opening cinammon, cardamom maybe some cloves. The heart of myrrh, oud and tobacco is well done. The base is basically the synthetics carrying it for a little bit of more extended time. I throughly enjoyed this however the opening sillage does drop by a lot. So it tricks you into thinking it’s got a huge sillage while in a few minutes it drops to become arm’s length maybe less. It’s also an opening and heart with a boting kind of dry down. I actually wrote this review to reconsider a second bottle. It’s a pass unfortunately.

A very unique and excellent addition to Xerjoff's oud line. Luxor successfully takes you on an olfactory journey through the depth and grandeur of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The oud (Thai & Combodia) is prominent, multifaceted - repulsive and addictive at the same time. As it evolves, nagarmotha and patchouli interestingly enter to give a mega-elegant vibe. I can imagine the greatest monarch of ancient Egypt wearing this when I smell it. This could be a perfect signature scent for top CEO and Commander in Chief.

This bottle of perfume bears a vintage aesthetic, reminiscent of classic bottles of wine, scotch, or cognac. Its unique scent may not appeal to everyone, as it is tailored for individuals with a discerning palate and a deep appreciation for exceptional fragrances. Achieving a confident demeanour when wearing this perfume is essential. I am an ardent admirer of the Xerjoff oud collection, as they consistently craft some of the finest perfumes in the industry.

"Holy Ramses, Batman! How did we get in this pyramid?" Straight up stunner. This is the scent of pharaohs and temples in ancient Egypt. The "Oud Stars" line is my favorite from Xerjoff. It's like radio in the Sixties, the hits just keep coming. Starts off a little strong, as many Xerjoff fragrances do. But, then transforms into a time-traveling masterpiece. Performance is enormous. 10 out of 10. Luxor Five Scale Rating: ⨷⨷⨷⨷1⁄2

This fragrance is very fecal for the first 30-45 minutes and is almost unwearable. After that short period this fragrance transforms into one of the best fragrances ever. The cinnamon, oud, incense and tobacco are blended very well. I do not like spraying it on my clothes as that causes the fecal notes to linger for far too long. This is a 10/10 for me but definitely try before you buy as you might hate it.

This stuff is totally unusable of course, at least among non-aficionados, but i can't help but loving the trip it takes me on. It certainly evokes middle eastern historic times, complete with spice markets, tombs, camels and questionable plumbing. This is high on my list of future FB purchases, right behind all the scents I can actually use among people. I just can't stop sniffing my hand right now...

Oud, leather, woods & lots of fresh cracked green and black cardamom pods in the opening. I don’t get any fecal smell in this perfume. The cardamom settles somewhat but stays prominent in the scent and the oud becomes more of a hay like smell than the opening. Leather, tobacco and a pleasant sweetness and dustiness comes in the dry down. I like it but I don’t like the price tag

Those who have rated this above, have they really tested it? I wonder? it seems this must be a performer by the account of the ingredients and the predecessors in line, how could it be that the longevity is weaker than a cheap cologne? Some times, I doubt the sincerity of those ratings. please when you rate, explain here the condition, and the reasons behind your rate.

Xerjoff do some quality fragrances (as well as some overbearingly sweet ones). Richwood and Pikovaya Dama are excellent and are highly recommended. However, the Oud Stars collection is where the magic happens. Alexandria II, Ceylon, and Luxor are incredible and are by far the most interesting. If I could only own three Xerjoff fragrances it would be these three.

Has a very oudy dried berry dry down, in a strange way smells very ancient, suppose that makes sense considering the name. It opens animalic fecal but I love the stank so I'm bias and think it's such an incredible fragrance. If you like animalic oud then this is one for your collection, if TF Oud Wood is your limit for oud then stay away from this.

I love this fragrance. This feels ancient, special and totally individual, a concoction of precious oils mixed just for you. I don’t really get a lot of oud unless I’m spraying this on a paper tester. On skin, it’s very wood and incense forward. Really delightful if this your type of thing.

Oh boy, this is good stuff. Opens with a beautiful deep animalic oud then settles into an ultra smoky tobacco with hints of airiness and sweetness from the cardamom and cinnamon. Reminds me of 1/3 Golden Dallah, 1/3 Kilian Smoking Hot and 1/3 something that I can’t quite put my finger on.

This is a dark cinnamon fragrance it's not Barnyard at all and it's not funky oud it reminds me of a cinnamon cider with a touch of leather not much leather at all I also own Lux opulent from Dua it is close but not the original 10/10 Xerjoff

Reminds me of TF Tobacco Oud with cinnamon and some greenness (from the cardamom). Smells great; the fecal oud note only last for 30-45 minutes. Scent 9,5/10 Performance 7,5/10 Versatility 7/10

Prior to smelling Luxor, the only experience I've had with poopy, "barnyard"-style oud was Silver Oud by Amouage. If you were somehow able to read my cuss-laden review of that fragrance before it was taken down by the Fragrantica mods, you will know that I am likely the world's biggest Silver Oud hater. To me, it is a mess of castoreum, birch tar, and an overload of loud ouds. I still have the sample my brother and I got from Neiman Marcus, and I still have the same "eww" reaction when I smell it. But when I smelled Luxor, another animalic oud from a popular niche house, I was kinda shocked. Do I... actually like this? Yes, it's certainly an animalic oud. Cambodian and Thai. The whole shebang. You could say it's fecal, I wouldn't disagree. However, that stink only lasts for a few minutes before the rest of this beautifully-blended fragrance comes to life. Unlike Silver Oud which is a nuclear bomb of animal notes and darkness, this has an absolutely gorgeous note of cinnamon and cardamom off the top, which gives it a slight airiness (dare I say, sweetness?) from behind, as the oud fades out and the other notes, such as soft tobacco, myrrh, and smooth incense become the stars of the show. Yes, the oud is present for the duration of the fragrance (which is quite a long time), but it is noticeably less animalic towards the end, as compared to the opening. If you are just getting into fragrances, I would suggest looking somewhere else. But if you are starting to make the journey into fecal ouds, this might actually be a good place to start, as the other notes in this fragrance can invoke a sense of familiarity, which is a lot more inviting than a, say, Silver Oud. It goes without saying that this is not blind buy safe, no matter what level of fragrance enthusiast you may be. I have a 2ml sample of this fragrance and I probably won't buy a full bottle, as I only like to spray once to appreciate the art without having to smell like I rolled around in poop when I go outside. Iffff you wanted to wear this out, however, I would suggest doing so on a cold day (late fall to winter). And maybe in the daytime? I'm not really sure why, maybe it's the cardamom and cedar which give it a tiny touch of freshness behind the warm spices? Night works just fine, but I would personally wear this in the daytime if I ever wore it out of the house. This "fecal" style of oud fragrance is definitely for everyone (it wasn't for me either!) but Luxor has a certain allure to it. I keep sniffing my arm and discovering something new that I hadn't noticed the last time. I appreciate Xerjoff for the craftsmanship that went into creating this fragrance, and I think it's best meant to be treated as such- art. But I do like this!

I feel like ive walked to luxor and back myself. What a journey with this fragrance. Like a few others here, my first impression was not positive, unless you mean positive as in 'i positively hate this liquid turds'. It made me think what it was like when an inmate 'gasses' or 'douches' a prison guard. What on earth was this? But just like manure doing its magic for roses. Something happened. I typically do not enjoy leather in fragrances, so this plus proper oud set me up for a challenge. On first wearing the poo note dissipated (like a fart in an elevator, not an outdoor fart). But this beast has some energy and performs allllll day. I ordered my 'caution: toxic gas' sign and locked it away. Over the next few months, I pulled it out when I was feeling courage, and observed that the 'shit slap in the face' note wasnt around anymore. I dont think Jesus has slain the anti-Christ in the last couple months, so something else must have killed the beast. Im thinking that once I sprayed it a couple, the air began to work some oxidation magic and this is what fixed it. 9 months later: Im a fan. I wore it while chilling out at a family get-together and was given a couple unsolicited compliments about how luxurious it smells. The silage on this is very nice during the lonnnnng mid and base. I feeel it is mature and classy, Fortunately I leather isnt super dominant on my skin. I get myhrr, oud with the cinnamon and a blend of woods and a touch of leather. A couple hours in, general activity warmed my body up and i get some type of a dried fruit (apricot?). This is by no means an easy fragrance for me, but it sure is a journey.

Luxor starts out with a pretty challenging opening. There is definitely a subtle barnyard vibe at the beginning, but not overwhelming. Once it settles though, it becomes an excellent scent of blended tobacco, incense and oud, supported by the other notes which are less obvious and a subtle sweetness that takes the edge off but still keeps it very masculine. Suggest applying about 30 minutes before heading out. Performance is nuclear. Leaves a good trail, projects and excellent longevity. Strikes me good any time of the year for formal events with casual events suited better in fall, winter or spring. While I like it a lot, I'm adding this to my undecided list. Want to sample all of the Xerjoff's Oud Stars Collection first. Might find others that are even better. UPDATE: From what I've tested in the Oud Stars Collection, Luxor is the best so far. I'm getting a bottle of this baby. 2nd UPDATE (8/28/2025): I've had a bottle of Luxor for a while now and really like it. After testing many other Xerjoff fumes, Luxor strikes me as the best Xerjoff.

Imagine stepping into a vast medieval throne hall inside a luxurious palace. The space is illuminated by countless fire torches, their flames casting dancing shadows across towering walls. You catch the scent of the royal, resinous and majestic myrrh burning in the torches, mingling with the aroma of ancient woods from massive tables and grand pillars supporting a soaring ceiling. In the air, there’s a rich trace of exotic spices from lavish dishes served at a royal feast, along with subtle leathery nuances rising from the throne-like chairs. This fragrance is pure status. It’s not made for everyone, and it demands careful selection of when and where to wear it. But when it hits, it hits hard 👌🏻, making you stand out in a dark, mysterious, and undeniably elegant way. It strongly reminds me of Tom Ford Myrrhe Mystère in terms of atmosphere and depth. Highly recommend sampling it before pulling the trigger Scent: 10/10 Performance: 8.5/10 Versatility: 5/10 Uniqueness: 9/10

One of my (new) favourites from the Oud Stars line, was a risky blind buy that paid off :) What I get at first is something that reminds of the peppery and robust dark woodiness of the drydown of Zafar, but with nowhere close to the fermented barnyard oud that Zafar has. I guess using thai oud instead of hindi style is the difference there, there is no “blue cheese” like notes in Luxor like there is in Zafar. In addition though, the warm spice that melts into that base mainly from the cardamom mixing with the sweetness and depth of the myrrh makes this one for me. It’s almost on the edge of gourmand with a touch of a boozy feel. As it dries further you get more of a sweet smoke (but not very smoky), I guess this is the tobacco and incense. Good stuff. If you have tried and liked Zoologist Camel or Rhino 2020 I think you would like this too, they are in the same ballpark.

Luxor is that type of fragrance where it took a bit of time to appreciate this masterpiece. Thai & Camabodian Oud are very good quality used in this composition giving them this animalic tone that put me off at the beginning. Now, when “I grew up” a bit and my nose and oud expectations I higher, I finally appreciate this perfume. It is very-dry fragrance where oud, leather and myrhh are prominent notes to me. Performance and uniqueness is amazing leaning more masculine to my nose. It is smokey-oudy-amber, animalic fragrance with sweet spices coming from Cinnamon, Cedar & Cardamon. Once the fragrance settle down after initial “harsh” start it will leave behind you beautiful interesting trail of North African Nomad. It will sound strange but I actually like to use this perfume in warmer days to highlight “Tuareg experience” 😊

I like this; I wanted to try a "challenging" oud and I got a sample. I kind of get the cow farm in the opening, but I have to think about it to smell it. My strongest instinctual reaction to this is Christmas. christmas, but make it a little bit dirty, like a motorcycle dude wearing tons of leather leaving a room with holiday poupourri - this is the scent he drags out of the room with him. It is interesting and thought-provoking. i wouldn't buy a full bottle, but I find this to be captivating from an aesthetic standpoint and it makes me excited for the journey of perfume- trying all sorts of challenging perfumes. When I first sampled it I oversprayed and got a headache- so it's a beast. but since a little goes a long way, I expect to enjoy my 2ml sample for awhile!

I can understand how people like it or love it. After selecting it as part of the complimentary sample from purchasing another fragrance on the xerjoff website, I gave this one a try. Overall, I pick up a lot of notes listed on occasion, mostly it smells like a pine or soft wood type smell one would associate for the holidays with incense. I guess it is just how the notes play the chord in my nose. Sometimes the stronger smells come through giving it a smoky note which is very pleasant. Overall, as a sampler and a fragrance it is good, I'm just not convinced this one is for me though. Definitely get it as a sample if you can before buying.

Nice enough and one of the most mainstream crowd pleasing type of woody Oriental scent from the Xerjoff Oud Stars line. The main star here is a central cinnamon note that stays throughout the length of the wear of the perfume. As the perfume opens this central note is surrounds by cardamom and slight leather. The brief heart is an incensy tobacco surrounded by slight cedar. The perfume settles on a base of mostly Hindi oud, patchouli and cypriol. The masculine leaning perfume has moderate to strong projection and good longevity. Far from the best of this series, it is nonetheless a fair addition to the exceptional Oud Stars line. Enjoy!

Much more wearable than some reviews suggest. I'm a huge fan of Thai oud, Cambodi oud, and nagarmotha, so I was hoping that the base notes would be much more pronounced. Unfortunately, they're buried beneath cinnamon, cardamom, tobacco and incense for the life of the fragrance: pleasantly sweet with a VERY slight hint of animalic oud. The opening reminds me of Mancera's Red Tobacco. Too sweet for me overall, but it's a good place to start if you're cautiously dipping your toe into the wonderful world of oud.

Opened up with sourish oud and ultra animalic. But that’s just a very short opening. After that it became leathery with a bit of sweetness from cinnamon. Tobacco made a cameo appearance and afterwards the overall scent became more of a woody oud, which was very pleasant. The sweetness persisted and at time I got some kind of a dessert vibe off it. Overall it was very likable.

I purchased this in 2020. It is a nice warm spicy fragrance with a hint of sweetness later on in the drydown. The 2 Ouds produce a wonderful hay/straw aroma, no fecal to my nose. Performance is excellent as is come to be expected from Xerjoff. I don't really get any tobacco but maybe it is woven in with the light smokey incense.

Holy smoke! Probably the best warming oud fragrance out there. Perfect for sub 10 Celsius 🌨️❄️. The scent is perfectly blended as by most of Chris Maurice's creations. Very true to the description of the notes and accords. Most have already detailed the phases of this profile.

This is not a safe blind buy, definitely a fragrance if you are a connoisseur. The opening reminded me of an animal farm with some animal poop lingering around, but if you get trough the opening it starts to smell pretty spicy and on my skin it’s kinda has a smokey undertone.

On me this is unlike any Xerjoff product I have ever tried. Even with over spraying this is mostly a skin scent, which is very surprising. A little fruit. A little Oud. A little wood. A little incense. Notice the pattern? Little. This is nice but performance is not up to standard, especially for Xerjoff. It reminds me of br540 in that it is there but not there. I can smell it but not really, I have a family member who remodeled a bathroom. It was beautiful but had surfaces that could not get wet. In a bathroom... that is what this is. Here you go people. Here is a fragrance for you. It is really nice but the person wearing it can’t smell it. SMH. When I can smell it. I think winter fragrance but perhaps it needs some heat to project.

This starts out very sour but eventually calms down to a more woody + incense + tobacco kind of scent. Definitely masculine, no doubt about it. Sophisticated scent and I can see the artistry in this. For some reason it does remind me of Chanel Egoiste (the original one, not the Platinum one!). This is certainly an unique scent in the sense of you smelling this anywhere else is slim to none (not everyone's cup of tea). Please sample before committing your coin to a full bottle. With that said, I do not believe that 50ml is worth anywhere near EUR 350. Xerjoff produces better gems at a far lower price point (e.g., Xerjoff Zefiro). My review is based on an original 2ml sample.

This is an inoffensive and wearable oud fragrance. On my skin, this is more animalic than woody. To my nose, oud, leather and cinnamon are the most prominent notes (in that order), with woody undertones. The tobacco and incense come peeking out every once in a while. It's a decent "old man fragrance," but nothing special. The performance is great (as expected from Xerjoff). But considering the relatively high price, it's a nope from me.

This perfume is very dirty, from opening to drydown.Opened with the smell of leather with a touch of spicynya. There’s some sweet trees here, but it’s not too sweet. Smoky impressions from its tobacco notes, which are mixed with oud. It may be sexy for some people, but not for everyone. So be careful, sample first before buying.

I like oud fragrances but I'm not sure when/where I would wear this especially at the price. Opens with strong musty, smoky (incense) oud. Then settles to a smoky tobacco. Projection is moderate. Test it out before buying a full bottle.

Its very spicy. Perfomance is good. Stays on skin even after shower but the smell is not that great. Its like a spice kick and remains linear. I bought it today and tried it today so not a lot of experience yet
