Mamluk

Mamluk takes a bunch of great but tricky notes, caramel and honey and flowers and oud, and manages to combine them into a wonderful scent that is heavy but not overpowering or "too much" at all (at least if you don't overspray). I love it! The caramel and honey are dominant here, and very realistic; it makes for a very sweet scent, but it's not sickly, synthetic or even very sugary at all. The floral notes also help with that: they're not as dominant as the gourmand notes, but they're certainly noticeable, and they add some surprising but very welcome lightness and even coolness to the fragrance. It's a delightful contrast with the heavier, warmer notes, and in my eyes a big part of what makes Mamluk so unique and interesting. What I'm describing here is the heart of the fragrance, by the way. My tastes lean towards the bright and innocent or even goody-goody, so I'm not as fond of the opening which is wilder; murkier, dirtier, more animalic, a bit chaotic and confusing. This phase doesn't last long, though, it quickly goes on to the heart which lasts for ages. Lucky for me it's not the other way around! So this is great, but is it great enough to justify the 250 euros price tag? I don't really know, is anything? I'm glad I have my little decant; with the amount of perfume I've amassed this year alone I'll probably never get through it, so I won't have to answer that question...

This is perfection. Pure and utter perfection. I always thought that I were too picky to find something that's amazing straight through, whenever I wear it. Nearly all perfumes have that disadvantage to me, the notes that are great in one situation smells less attractive in another situation, even if I love them. Mamluk is perfect and I could wear it every day for the rest of my life, without a doubt. Mamluk is sweet, very very sweet. But it isn't sweet as candy, the heavy honey gives it an animalic (or maybe "human" is a better way of putting it) feel that helps it keep a foot on the ground, compared to if it would have been sugar coated. It's like the difference between condensed milk and the smell of a newborn nursing baby. Both smell of milk, yes, but one of them makes your heart throb while the other one might make you a bit thirsty at most. Sorry for a weird train of thought. The fantastic honey is paired with a fantastic caramel note. A silky creamy caramel made with bare hands, boiled down heavy cream and butter. Not powdered and cute as in let's say Prada Candy. Some resins and a tad of vanilla on top and there's the masterpiece. Might not sound like much but if you even lean towards liking this kind of notes, try it at your own risk. You will fall in love. Or eat your own arm off like a zombie. Or get eaten. Be warned.

Mamluk ( arabic for owned/slave) opens up on my skin with an overdose of honey, showcasing all of its facets, sweet but somewhat animalic, even rancid, with a bitter contrast, this stage of the fragrance lasts for around half an hour and it could be a bit challenging to some, but if you're a bit patient you will be rewarded with one of the most intoxicating orientals ever made. Rounding off the second half hour of Mamluk’s development on my skin a sweet jasmine pops up alongside osmanthus adding a sweet caramelized fruity facet to Mamluk, almost apricot like, and this is where the fragrance becomes a true liquid aphrodisiac, this is a long lasting heart, the caramel accord is heart melting, intoxicating in every possible way. At this stage Mamluk has a very slow development, the transitions from this point forward are smoother than anything I've ever smelled before, it takes hours before the vanilla and oud start to show a sensual woody facet as the caramelized osmanthus honey meets them in the base. Mamluk possesses huge sillage and projection, carrying a gourmandish aroma with semi animalic facets throughout its entire lifetime on skin. The composition has the tenacity and power of a true Mamluk warrior, Without a doubt an Arabic olfactive treasure.

Mamluk by Xerjoff Honeyed Oud Kafkaesque wrote an amazing review on this prompting me to test Mamluk right away. I knew I would be in love with this, I love my bottle so much! The first spray is a loud, harsh bergamot. The honey made a dramatic entrance. The honey is bold, thick, slow-moving, rich, gorgeous! As the fragrance progresses, indolic jasmine becomes evident then it blends with with honey, this honey on my skin causes a acidic urinous scent. I love this skanky pee note on my skin, it stirred up the fragrance making it even more alluring. The honey and caramel dominates on my skin. After a time on my skin, the scent becomes even more sensual! The oud comes through, it is not heavy or too soft on my skin because of course the star of Mamluk is the honey. The oud has a medicinal quality, it is dirty, I thought it would be then be engulfed by the honey, the oud is very present on my skin and provides depth. The drydown is honeyed benzoin. Longevity is about 9 hours and sillage is a beast for a few hours but it is still noticeable all day.

Absolutely the best... love love love this! This perfume is everything... It's comforting, empowering, festive, sensual; feels like a blanket that surrounds you. The scent is the warmest warm that exists, it does have a definite animalic tone due to the oud, but in the right circumstances (skin chem and appropriate weather) it acts more as the warm part of the scent. Right after spraying, it does smell somewhat like plastic-y pee, that goes away after a few minutes though; what comes next is the best honey-caramel scent that exists, it's very well blended, the oud-honey acts as a carrier, all the other notes radiate from this base beautifully. In my opinon, you need to dress a bit darker for this one, not necessarily elegantly but slightly classy - perfectly fits a decadent eccentric! Overall, this is a pricey one, but so sooo worth it. The quality is impeccable, the scent is perfection, it's quite uniqe (there's some similarity to Prada Candy, I'd say that's more like a little cousin to Mamluk though)

I have a sweet tooth - i am Mary Beulah's grandson after all. So, the moment i initially smelled this standing in the Scent Bar in LA a month or so ago, i loved it. But, to pull from R.Kelly "i'm wise enough to know" that what's good for the goose, may not be so good for the gander. So, i settled on copping a decant before going in on a full joint as sweets can be overbearing for some people. But man! The three times i've worn this here Mamluk, i've gotten the exact response i've wanted to get from the 3 people i was sharing space with in those moments. They love it! Makes them want to eat me up (verbatim quote from 2 separate individuals). I'm happy. They're happy. I smell like a damn caramel coated flower candy - whatever that might be. and oh, i'm new to fragrances,so i'm learning these things - in all the frags that have oud, i've smelled this note, that i assume must be the oud, because its in all the oud frags - but i do not detect it at all here. for the record.

A pleasing and beautifully blended Oriental scent with gourmand, floral and woody aspects, this is definitely one of the most popular of the Xerjoff Oud Stars line. The perfume opens on a gourmand note with notes of caramel, bergamot and honey. The heart is mainly floral with jasmine, osmanthus and vanilla flower. The perfume settles down into a dense powdery base of Indian (Assam) Oud, musk, benzoin and amber. The perfume is never overpowering. It remains a discreet property or slave of yours (translation of its title), delectably hovering you throughout, with its refined elegance, caressing your skin for its long stay, and creating a happy halo around you. Unisex, with very good sillage, projection and longevity. Enjoy!

I love this. I love the abundant honey and caramel, and the not-quite-sneaking-in-under-the-radar man-junk-funk of the oudh. I wish it lingered longer, and was more prominent. I like dirty perfumes, and for most of the lifespan (the incredible, Methuselah-esque lifespan) of Mamluk, the sweet, candied glory of its gourmand facets conceals its seamy side. Spank me, baby! I put this on yesterday evening and could still smell it this morning. I reapplied after lunch today (it seemed only humane to wait, as I dined in company), and eight hours into the dry down it still smells musky and edible, but the sweetness has subsided enough that I can smell the oudh again as well. Glorious. Just glorious.

It's winter. You have been flirting with a guy for some time now. He is a notorious womanizer, you couldn't care less. Not looking for a romance. You have been turning him down and don't want to waste time on dinners pretending you are taking him seriously. It's late, you had a long day at work. You take a shower and lay down on the sofa. You are tired and unsatisfied. You get up and throw on a long fur coat not wearing a single piece of clothing underneath. You give the guy a call and show up at his place drenched in Mamluk. You keep it short. Get back home and have a glass of wine by yourself. Honey, Caramel & Jasmine nuclear bomb.

Potent and rich. It's as though you've dropped real thick raw rugged honey on your skin, in the opening. Slowly moves to a dense caramel sweetness with some smooth florals, and before that completes its stint, the animalic pungent Oud with musky amber and benzoin nuances come through dialing down the sweetness just a bit, the rugged honey note however stays throughout the life of the scent on skin, smells expensive, not for everyone, could be challenging to pull off, but the complexity and character of the scent can definitely be appreciated. Regal. For me personally, it's a 9/10

Opens up upon the first spray with indolic jasmine and a honey caramel blend with honey being the more dominate note. I imagine this is what you'd smell if you poured honey on wet hay. I have a very good feeling that there is real ambergris in here,"the real kind"... Overall as with most Xerjoff fragrances this perfume is beautifully executed and long lasting and although it doesn't evolve much the scent doesn't really need to as it's a honey fragrance for honey lovers pure and simple. If this isn't the best honey perfume on the market then it's definitely in the top 3 imo.

@illahuasca Maybe you've had a little more experience with oud, but I've compared this with two other honey-oud fragrances (Montale & Floris, conveniently located at the same store) and its funkiness does standout amongst the three. Trust me it's not marketing strategy, and it wouldn't be that interesting to do a blind test because it'd be easy.. Try directly dabbing like an old perfume/cologne bottle (on the same spot twice) instead of using the stick :) It's also possible that your nose is clogged by the sweetness...

Honey, jasmin, caramel, benzoin, oud and maybe osmanthus. Those notes stick out, while the others support. Mamluk is a beautiful frag, very comfortable and inoffensive. I feel it is versatile, you can wear this day/night, work/play, spring/fall/winter. Three sprays will last for about a day and the projection will with no doubt get you noticed. In conclusion, this is a solid frag that is very versatile and many people will be able to relate to. If you have the money, it's a must buy.

Xerjoff Mamluk starts off with a horrendous smell of dirty diaper, but it goes away pretty quickly and evolves to a wonderful honey, caramel and oud scent. It has really good longevity, which you would expect from Xerjoff, and pretty heavy sillage. When you get past the opening, it's a beautiful scent, and I think it's totally worth the expensive price tag. Go easy on the sprays though, if it gets overdone it can cause nausea because of the insane amounts of honey in here.

This perfume is definitely a masterpiece in the full extent of the word is a perfume that like few leave me breathless and make me sigh is not a perfume easy to carry you have to understand it but once you understand it you will love it and you will want to have it for life is definitely in my top 5 is extremely intoxicating and sensual leaning more towards the female side is spectacular with capital letters projection excellent 9/10 duration 10/10 aroma 9/10

Ultrasexy modern semigourmand scent. No animalic or funky notes. The sweetness of honey and the wetness of a soaked black tea bag. The white florals are faint and provide dimensions of an unknown kind. Extremely unique with slightly linear character which could be an area of concern for its price. But overall just a sexy sensual unisex soft caramelic woodiness. Smells rich. Feels rich. A great addition and contrast to the Oud Stars range from Xerjoff.

This is my 2nd favorite fragrance from Xerjoff (that I have had the opportunity to try, of course) and will be a dream of mine to own a large bottle. I currently own just a decant and will gladly give a kidney for a 100ml bottle. *smile* JK, of course.... Honey. Dirty honey. Sweet honey. HONEY! Love it, love it and this has it in spades along with a love blend of other notes that make this a most unique fragrance. YES....well worth the $$ to have it.

Mamluk is a delicious sweet honey masterfully combined with delicious caramel, amber, creamy vanilla, sweet oud and hints of peachy/apricot note of osmanthus. There is nothing off putting about this fragrance for me. The oud is there but it is sweet, not barnyard, nor animalic in any way. The star of the show is the honey and caramel. The dry down is a delicious caramelized skin. Perfect scent for Fall and Winter. Longevity 9+ hours

Finally I added Mamluk to my collection. If you don't like or don't understand Oud, you will not like this fragrance. I must admit it's a bit challenging with a rich honey, sweet caramel and oud (skanky) opening. Within an 1hr the oud calms down and the amber kicks in full gear. The remaining four hrs is a beautiful sweet honey/amber with a musky woods and floral undertones. Two sprays is all you need ... cold weather only!

WOW! It is a honey for sure. A very pleasant, rich and projected fragrance but not imposing at all. Very unisex but I find it leans more feminine, much like Al-khat but totally different and no funk. It is beautiful and to me it's gourmand because I want to eat it...I love honey. P.s. I love this almost as much as my love child Fars. ❤️

This is one of the best from the oud stars collection, imo...rich, powerful, honey-oud is what i am getting. Some of the Oud Stars i own i wouldn't necessarily care to get another bottle of, but this one...definitely will want another bottle of once i get close to "empty".

at first i get caramel, honey and white florals that are perfectly balanced. i don't seem to get tons of oud like others are mentioning, it's subtle but noticeable for sure but not overwhelming. i was smelling myself all day long after i tested this-a gorgeous honey.

Holy crap this smells good. Warm honey, toasty nuts. A friend gave me a decant for Christmas and I gather it's stupid expensive. Definitely on the want-can't have list.

I love this new version!! I thought it was too thick, caramel-y, and musky before, but those have all turned down, leaving amplified HONEY and florals!

Behaves like Prada Candy on me with addition of honey, bit warmer than Candy, Candy is muskier, considering the price I'll stick to Candy.

Gorgeous honey & caramel, supported by a tiny, tiny touch of well-blended oud. I was expecting something way more challenging (based on the reviews I read around here) than what I got. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about scents that appeal to most people. This is lovely, gorgeous, sweet, outstanding, all the nice adjectives I can put together for it, I would. A review below me says this is not blind buy worthy. I absolutely disagree - This is the most blind-buy worthy from the entire Oud Stars collection, as literally every other scent in that collection IS more challenging than this one. Even Alexandria II which is my all time favorite frag from Xerjoff, which I instantly fell inlove with on first sniff is more "challenging" than this. Buy or at least sample with confidence, it's not an acquired taste at all, if you love high quality sweet(but not overly sweet) frags like ambre narguile, naxos, angels share, back to black, pure havane, even side effect - you'll love this one too. Is it as similar to Back to Black as the votes here would suggest?...well kinda, they fall in the same category, but this one is much, much better.

A surprisingly elegant fragrance despite its fierce sounding name, Mamluk, which supposedly refers to the knightly Warrior class of Egypt and Mesopotamia in the Middle Ages. It opens with a fleeting barnyard whiff of Oud. Blink and you'll miss it! Then the floral heart notes of Jasmine and Osmanthus enter the stage and stays for a considerable amount of time. Smells high quality and somewhat heady. Projection is good, i get wafts of this scent periodically as I move my arm. Slowly, the floralcy is tinged with increasing amounts of animalic honeyness. At the dry down stage, it almost resembles MFK's Absolue pour le Soir in its urinous honey accord. I personally find APLS gorgeous. And I love animalics. However, Mamluk is not an overt animalic, nor is it as intense as APLS. I would say this is more floral for most of its life span. If you like the idea of Jasmine and or Osmanthus, combined with a hint of skanky honey, this may be for you.

Rich, strong honey, beautifully mixed to become an oud, ambery, woody, sweet experience. The opening is very sharp in the first second or two, almost alcoholy, with a strong honey note coming right at you. This sharpness goes away, and leaves you with the potent honey, bergamot and osmanthus, followed by wood amber and jasmine mixed together. This fragrance is pretty linear on me, but not simple by any means. Only after a good five hours it mellows down into a skin scent, but the blend doesn’t change. I cant put my nose on caramel much, but I think it adds to the smoothness of this blend, and mixes beautifully with honey, amber and jasmine all together. Would add that it is almost an animalic experience, and definitely not for every day wear or for every person. As beautiful as it is , this one is only for a certain rare mood for me. Great, strong, unisex blend.

Pretty overly sweet Honey together with Caramel and that combination is made wonderfully. It's smooth, soft and it has slightly baby wipes vibe which makes it velvety and a little bit powdery. In overall this is sweeter that Ceylon but the opening in Ceylon is much much sweeter that this one. If you like honey, this is definitely your choice and this is very easy concoction, Oud on my skin is totally hidden and Honey as well is pleasant. This short review is based on a sample. The beauty of Mamluk takes patience. On application this is a brash, bold honey shot through with juicy citrus and honestly it's so powerful that you may not want to endure. The intensely urinous note eventually gives way to jasmine and softer florals, but hours in everything still reads almost saccharine sweet as caramel makes an appearance. Even then though, Mamluk isn't done. At the eight+ hour mark this is a heady, musky oud with that intense sweetness finally lurking more at the fringes. Twelve hours and it's darker still, a bit more animalic but never skanky with the other notes lapping like waves. If you have the time and inclination, Mamluk is worth the journey at least once.

I've been wanting to try this for quite a while. Finally bought a sample and wore it today. It starts with a nice clean honey scent (I get no oud) that slowly adds clear sweet flowers. After about 30 minutes I realized why it smelled so familiar. On me at least this smells almost exactly like Boadicea the Victorious Intense (which I own). They aren't *exact* copies of one another but it's so close (clear bright honey and sweet flowers) that there's no way I need both in my collection. I get no musk, no oud, no anything but sweet honey and sweet flowers. It's pretty but it isn't $300 pretty, nor is it in any way unique.

Safe honey-centered frag starting from balsamic amber to floral amber. This is not literal honey, since benzoin and light vanilla temper those decisive, waxy elements (think opoponax) I usually associate with honey. Save for that evolution that regards honey only, Mamluk does not change much and remains shockingly one-dimensional. This may derive from that unhumourous caramel ostinato. I would have loved some badass kick to cut through that lingering sweetness. Mamluks are warriors after all!

A deep, caramellic honeyed oud fragrance. It's intoxicating, and great for those who like their honey fragrances without tobacco (me!). However, there's a big dollop of phenylacetic acid in this one, so some people might find it very urinous. The oud here isn't the barnyard type, so the animalic facets of Mamluk is really from the honey. This is really golden and sticky, and I quite like it.

my first snip made me to feel I am in a beehive :) but slowly i can segregate the smell of caramel and some sweet floral notes. Over all I would say this is a long lasting "beehive feeling" to be. It was good on skin, I am afraid to use in on cloths. It is getting cold here in my country, so when I wanted to feel warmth I would spray lil bit on my head pulse areas.

Yeasty, sweet spiced bread kind of oud. It's like Montale's Red Aoud, but less synthetic. Performance on me is about the same. The similarities between this and Red Aoud are too great to justify this costing around quadruple the price per ml.

An amazing honey that’s intoxicatingly resinous and thick, this would kill Pooh bear if he tried to eat this honey. A chewy caramel amber honey that’s beautifully made but just a bit too rich and sweet for me to comfortably wear.

Skanky sweet jasmine, with honey in a supporting role. Not much oud here. Waxy, faintly reminiscent of a floral deodorant stick. Pretty, but not what I expected.

Honey, real honey with all its depth. It feels like this would perform well if layered with something else (amber fragrances, woody fragrances, rose).

Sadly for me, the comments about this being allllll honey (and animalic) are true - have to remind myself that the strong top note is in fact honey, as it does sadly have slight urinal vibes... with this in mind this wasn’t love at first sniff, I’m having to train my nose to get along with it. I think I will use this as a layering fragrance with aouds because once past the bizarre top note I can appreciate its rich golden qualities.

smells dirty, animalic and messy. i found it hard to like, not for any reason other than that it is just TOO dense. way too sense. i get the honey and sweet candy notes, but by gosh, they all seem to clash with each other. nopes...

Caramel honey oud its thick and generally unpleasant I dont love it i wear it because I paid for it so hopefully ill finish the bottle soon

Xerjoff Mumluk opens with a strong projection combining honey, animalic musk, oud, and flowers. The honey makes the opening very sweet and pleasant, however, the musk is different, this is an animalic musk, it has an ammonia touch that makes it pungent and projecting. The flower accords are pleasant although not strong. The oud becomes more prominent as the fragrance dries down, the caramel accord joins the honey in an attempt to counterbalance the animalic musk; the bergamot, vanilla, and benzoin are just soft touches. The amber adds a soft powdery accord. This is a relatively linear scent. Once Xerjoff Mumluk has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a strong projection, sweet, animalic musky, and oud fragrance with floral touches. The fragrance feels animalic, classy, dark, dirty, earthy, unisex, floral, mature, musky, nocturnal, old-school, pungent, special, woody, and mildly pleasant. BATCH REVIEWED: 2020. WOW RATING: 10/10. Xerjoff Mumluk musky animalic fragrance that will impress anyone. DISLIKE RATING: 8/10. The musk is a strong animalic accord that many will find it offensive. UNIQUENESS: 8/10. It is a relatively unique fragrance. MASS APPEAL: 1/10. This is the type of fragrance reserved for connoisseurs looking for uniqueness. PROJECTION: 4/10. Moderate, but intense, about 4 feet around the wearer. SILLAGE: 6/10. Excellent, about 6 feet behind the wearer. APPLICATION: Two or three atomizations will suffice. LONGEVITY: 5/10.
