Oesel

I first wrote a review of Oesel on Basenotes shortly after the line launched and I said it then and I still maintain the same viewpoint (and with Henri's review below, I see that I'm not the only one): Oesel is basically a Fleur du Male copy. It's marginally "more natural" smelling, and it has a bit less cedar and the florals have been reduced slightly, but all in all it's close enough to Fleur du Male that it's not worth the price difference. I actually prefer FdM as I feel it has more character, even if it does come across as a bit more synthetic. If you almost love FdM but find yourself annoyed by a particular chemical in it or feel that it might be a perfect scent if only the balance was adjusted ever so slightly, do check out Oesel as it may be just what you are looking for. Those who simply do not like the odor profile of FdM can skip Oesel entirely. This is not the only Xerjoff that smells very similar to another, pre-existing scent. Mefisto too smells quite similar to Creed's Silver Mountain Water. To a lesser extent, Dhajala calls to mind Angel for Women, XXY is rather similar to Daim Blonde, and Modoc is not miles away from Tam Dao.

Which is altogether expected, because one thing is FOR A CERTAINTY when it comes to Xerjoff: quality raw materials, focussed on natural ingredients versus cheaper synthetics, coupled with superb blending... 4. For the money and what you get, I too prefer Fleur Du Mal..... *Why some men would stay away: the floral note may be a bit too much for some and those who are not very confident, bold or comfortable in their own skin, should just STAY CLEAR!!! *In addition, the white bottle, with that rather robust looking gentleman may be just too much for some and images of that buff Sailor in the Village People

This perfume is quite different. And you bet it has to be! It costs a fortune! I bought it because I am Italiana and I think it is just what I need. I preferred it over Bond n.9 Chinatown and Boadicea the Victorious Intense because the sales lady said this lasts longer. I love it. It's like smelling a classy flower, one that doesn't want to bother. It doesn't make me feel like a cemetery bunch of flowers, like white floral perfumes usually do and it is not as sweet as Boadiacea Intense, which is gorgeous but a little sickening after a while I think. Great choice. I'll edit the review with lasting power and sillage later on. EDIT one week later: this perfume is like a drug for me now. The more I use it, the more I LOVE IT. Genius creation. I love Italy. LASTING POWER ON CLOTHES 10/10-on skin 8/10. SILLAGE 5/10 meaning very strong for the first hour or so, but then it fades even though you can smell whiffs for about 6 to 8 hours after application.

The opening was rather harsh but it settled to an interesting neroli, petit grain and mimosa combo on me. This would be perfect to wear on a hot sticky day. Like we have many of those in the UK! Oesel balances in the middle so unisex. I'm glad the petit grain eases off quite a bit. I can find it too jarring. Now I can detect the nicotiana, white flowers and jasmine being able to surface. They are faintly backed with the amber and cedar. I think the rose and Amber bring some sweetness out more in the scent. This is my favourite stage. Such a change from the opening and well worth waiting for. I've got admit for the price point I would have hoped this lovely hung around a lot longer.

This is one of the reasons why I enjoy fragrance so much. You can smell something one day and have a completely different reaction on a different day. That's what makes it so fun! I did not like this the first time I tried it. It was too much of the white flowers for me. Didn't try it for almost a year. I thought i would give it one more try and what a difference! It's beautiful. It smells similar to Uden and wake up world just a little bit softer. It seems to open during the colder months. At least on my skin. Give it a shot.

Orange blossom tobacco. Oesel is a potent unisex composition with rich, warming and quite heavy basenotes which become apparent almost immediately after application . I’m not accustomed to this tobacco/white floral pairing but I think it’s a great scent profile for transitional seasons since it has one foot in the frost and another in the sun-drenched orchard. Cozy but bright. Not too feminine... an interesting balance and perfect for this slushy freezing spring day.

At first Oesel reminds me really really much of Le Male. I was about to sell even my bottle because of thinking its way too masculine. Well, quite fast it starts to change into more floral and after 3 hours its quite much close to skin scent. I was hoping for its projection to last way more longer.

This is a very nice choice for men who like the note of orange blossom. Smells and looks regal, and performs very well. Only drawback is I don’t like the powdery dry down, but other than that I think it’s a fantastic fragrance. 8.75/10

Versace Dreamer and Le Male together hand in hand both intertwined in the same direction, Day - Office... 100% unisex.The only thing that disappoints me is moderate longevity. since all the xerjoff that I have are eternal

Don't let anyone convince you this isn't great

EN I discovered this company at the fair Fragranze 2012 in Florence Italy. It wasn't easy to find then the store that sells fragrances to the regular customer like me, but in the end I was able to buy the whole line from the site ausliebezumduft.de I must say that there is a system to buy perfumes Xerjoff paying the relatively low price (the normal price of the bottle of 50 ml is up to US$ 260-325). Since the Shooting Stars line and the Oud Stars line are the masterpieces of artistic perfumery, it is worth to buy the Shooting Stars - Discovery Sets - Part One and Part Two and Oud Stars Collection - Discovery Set that cost US$ 208 for each of the first two sets and US$ 254 for the Oud collection set. Of course there are the Discovery Sets for XJ17/17 Collection (US$ 331) and XJ Casamorati 1888 Vintage Collection (US$ 182), but personaly I do not like the last two lines, so I didn't order them. In each set there are 6 fragrances of 15ml each and therefore the price for a volume of 50 ml drops to US$116 for Shooting Stars collection and to US$142 for Oud Stars collection instead of USD$ 260 and US$ 325 for full version bottles. Non era poi facile di trovare il negozio che vendesse i profumi ad un mortale come me, ma alla fine sono riuscito ad acquistare tutta la linea dal sito ausliebezumduft.de Devo dire che c'è un sistema per comprare i profumi di Xerjoff al prezzo relativamente molto basso (il prezzo normale della bottiglietta di 50 ml arriva a circa €200-250). Visto che tutta la linea Shooting Stars e la linea Oud Stars sono i capolavori della profumeria artistica, vale la pena a comprare il Shooting Stars - Discovery Sets - Part One and Part Two e Oud Stars Collection - Discovery Set che costano €160 per ciascuno dei primi due e €195 per la collezione Oud. Ovviamente esistono anche i Discovery Sets per XJ17/17 Collection (€255) e per XJ Casamorati 1888 Vintage Collection (€140), ma quest'ultimi a me non piacciono. Nel ciascun set ci sono 6 profumi nelle bottigliette di 15ml e quindi il prezzo per un volume di 50ml crolla a €89 per Shooting Stars collection e €109 per Oud Stars invece di €200 per Shooting Stars e di €250 per Oud Stars.

Gorgeous and natural smelling orange blossom and tobacco blossom fragrance. Soft and inviting, but not weak. Leaning towards the feminine side of unisex, so some people might not like it, but if you like fragrances like JPG Fleur Du Male, Amouage Reflection or MFK APOM, then this is a must try. It looks like it was discontinued, so that will be increasingly difficult to do.

Xerjoff is my fav house. I have 35 decants so far and there's not one I dislike yet. This leans feminine on me and after a floral opening, I enjoyed the dry down much more. I get lemon, a touch of rose and tobacco. Beautiful! A perfect summer scent.

I received this scent through a bundle. I've used the 8ml sample for a full day and noticed that there's a similarity between this scent and my bottle of Bond No 9 Eau de New York. The resemblance ends at around 30 mins. It's due to how both houses utilized the petitgrain in their fragrance that caused the likeness. At least that's how I perceive this scent. However, instead of going into a citrusy linen drydown like BN9, Xerjoff sticks all the way through on white florals. Even after a whole day of wearing this scent, I only smell heavy petitgrain for the opening, and light florals on the dry down. This scent isn't at all what I'd describe as "amazing" or "unique". It's just your every day clean scent, kind of like an outdoorsy scent that you'd grab if you're having a picnic with some friends or family. Rating: Quality: 9/10 (Can't knock this scent, it's quality is present from the moment you spray. Doesn't smell synthetic or harsh). Projection: 6/10 (Incredibly strong in the first 1-2 hours. Then it's kind of a lingering white floral smell. Whiffs of petitgrain lingers on and off). Longevity: 8/10 (This scent has quite the lasting power. Still lingers on my shirt into the next day. On skin it's a solid 4-6 hours). Price: 6/10 (The price is "ok". It's not too expensive for the quality that you get, but the scent itself isn't worth paying what Xerjoff asks for. At least not to me. Also I wouldn't suggest blind buying this). Overall: 7/10 (Xerjoff is by no means a bad fragrance house, but this scent they created isn't worth going out of your way to own. Maybe I'm being harsh, but there are plenty of other white floral scents that are far better, without that huge price tag).

Opens as a powder bomb with an overlay of less common florals. I get very little rose or jasmine or "white floral" but it's certainly floral. I immediately looked up when it was released because it smells 1940s. I would swear my Gram wore this my entire childhood, but she died more than a decade before this was launched. When the scent settles it's a blend of those same florals with a workable amount of powder. One pump and it's strong enough to smell without lifting your wrist but it's not chasing others out of the room. It's a classic and classy sort of scent.

Elegant, gorgeous, clean, floral. Lasts 10 minutes tops....

Opening is a strong floral composition with soapy powder. I waited for the drydown, but the scent didn’t change, Oesel just got softer. The most interesting aspect to the scent is how it vacillates between synthetic and natural notes, but I’m still in the fancy air freshener camp...unfortunately. Or maybe that’s a good thing since Oesel is pricey and likely discontinued.

Oesel has nondescript floral notes, some citrus and is otherwise a soapy, "clean" scent. It comes off extremely strong in the opening and smells like a perfume you might imagine from 60 - 70 years ago. I guess that means it leans into a classic fragrance profile, but it is also reminiscent of generic hotel bar soap. Unisex for sure, if this is something you like. I got Oesel as a surprise sample from xerjoff universe. On me, it turns very bitter and overwhelming, so sadly it is a huge miss to me. If you like vintage-smelling, clean florals, you might love this. If you like sweet fragrances, gourmands, something with vanilla or lighter florals, this is probaly not for you.

Another strong orange blossom composition in the spirit of Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger or perhaps Boadicea the Victorious Delirious or Tauer Orange Star. Keyword: intense. Here the orange blossom is front and center and not at all sweet--no sugar coating whatsoever. There is also no suntan lotion vibe at all. Instead, this is a concentrated elixir of white flower power with orange blossom singing out much more loudly than the accompanying jasmine, mimosa, and rose. To my nose, this may as well be an orange blossom soliflore, particularly by the drydown. There is a slight soapiness to this perfume, but nothing like Prada Infusion de Fleur d'Oranger, which is also more airy and less dense. Other reviewers have compared this creation to Jean-Paul Gaulthier La Cologne Fleur du Mâle, which I do not believe that I have ever sniffed. I suspect that in an abstract, highly synthetic formulation (as the perfumes of JPG are in my experience), I would not like this at all. Oesel, however, smells very natural, albeit dense and intense. Great longevity and big sillage, perhaps too much for some... For orange blossom lovers only!!!!

Beautiful sharp bitter green opening. Like one standing under a huge orange tree. Gentle rain and heavy wind explode the blossoms on the tree breaking few branches and it falls under your feet. You standing inhaling deeply and orange leaves (Petitgrain) covering you piercing your senses with juicy vegetal emerald aroma. Then one walk toward the garden. Pink and red roses reside there. Not very natural smelling but nicely powdered and complimented with jasmine creating a timeless classical floral bouquet. Moving towards the drydown one enters an old villa made of cedarwood. Earthy patchouli gives old books and furniture vibes. It is quite one sitting by an ambery fireplace. Read few pages blink deeply and fall in to a sweet land of dreams! Nice one! :) Dry down is full of unexpected ambery animalic honey. Very nice! Did I say powder? Oh yes! You must be a powder fan. Its huge here. Beautiful old fashioned Chanel type of powder.

Oesel takes its name from a meteorite that fell in Estonia in 1855. And like the fall of a meteorite it surprises: a highly original reinterpretation of a floral scent. The opening is almost bitter, and then gives space to the floral part which however appears green and slightly citrusy to my nose, and I really appreciate it, in fact it immediately ended up on my wishlist. It reminded me of the spring of March, which timidly appears and which I can't wait for it to explode, which I smell and observe with all of myself. “Bauerngarten” painted by Klimt.

My first time trying an Xerjoff and I'm so sorry to report that all I got from this was freshner. A very expensive toilet freshner. It wasn't pleasurable, mind blowing or anything like that, in my humble opinion..Which is a shame, as I like white florals. But I couldn't even pick out any individual notes apart from the jasmine, which I'm sure was the highest quality. So there was that. Still, there is something for everyone and more for me too try!

بسم الله عطر oesel يبدأ بداية ليمونيه ثم يتحد مع الياسمين والباتشولي وخشب السيدر. كعطر يعطي توليفه جميلة من الياسمين والزهور البيضاء والباتشولي ولكن الغلبه هي للياسمين ولا ننسى ان العنبر اعطاه قليلا من الدفء هو احد عطور الياسمين الجميلة فيه شبه من reflection من امواج العطر جميل في الربيع التقيم 7/10 والحمد لله

This is a higher quality Fleur du Male. However it’s sillage and longevity are not as good. Just get Fleur du Male if you can. This is 2nd. Custo Man is also very similar but the 3rd best option to me. All 3 of them are almost indistinguishable.

Orange Blossom is the star. I wore in a very humid climate and it was a helpful forcefield. I’m only starting my appreciation of orange blossom fragrances, so all I know is that i enjoyed it and I found it to have quality ingredients.

Mimosa along with white flowers, patchouli and amber combined; Acts vanillic on skin: (vanilla like accord), and acts aldehydic lemony on fabric longer till they hit the vanillic refined Le Male-esque dry down. A true stunner.

Absolutely gorgeous. Yes, it’s essentially a Fleur Du Male clone (which is a favorite) but I think I prefer this one more upon further wears. It’s FdM with better blending and more natural smelling ingredients.

It starts like something between FdM and Custo Man but then quickly turns into very different floral territory, not my favorite kind of white floral bouquet.
