EN. Opera is my personal symphony. It never starts with a bang, but with a deep and slow overture, like an orchestra tuning up. As it evolves, it reveals a sumptuous, spicy, warm, and intense heart. I feel it grow on my skin, transforming, becoming more and more a part of me. What’s most extraordinary is that I can clearly perceive it at all times—it doesn’t just leave a trail for others, it stays with me. It’s like wearing a tailored suit that not only fits but embraces and reflects me. A fragrance I can converse with for hours, wrapping around my thoughts. However, I must admit that at first, when I tried it, it hits me with a rather unpleasant note—almost disturbing. It surprised me, like walking into an old theatre with the smell of dust, aged wood, and vintage fabrics. But just like in a real opera house, you just need to wait: after about an hour, that note fades and makes room for something magical and captivating. That’s when the fragrance reveals its true soul, and that’s when I fall in love with it every time. Opera becomes not just a perfume, but a story that unfolds on my skin. IT. Opera è la mia sinfonia personale. Non parte mai con un’esplosione, ma con un’introduzione lenta e profonda, come le prime note di un’orchestra che accorda gli strumenti. Man mano che si evolve, rivela un cuore sontuoso, speziato, caldo e intenso. Lo sento crescere sulla pelle, trasformarsi, e diventare sempre più parte di me. E il dettaglio più straordinario è che riesco a percepirlo in ogni momento, senza dover attendere che lo notino gli altri: è come indossare un abito su misura che non solo mi veste, ma mi abbraccia e mi riflette. Un profumo con cui dialogo per ore, che accompagna i miei pensieri e li avvolge. Devo però dire che all’inizio, appena provato, il profumo mi colpi con una nota piuttosto sgradevole, quasi disturbante. Sembrava, come se stessi entrando in un vecchio teatro, con quell’odore un po’ polveroso, di legni antichi e tessuti impregnati di tempo. Ma proprio come accade a teatro, basta aspettare: dopo circa un’ora, quella nota iniziale svanisce e lascia spazio a una bellezza che conquista, profonda, raffinata, magica. È in quel momento che la fragranza mostra il suo vero carattere, ed è allora che mi innamoro ogni volta. Opera diventa non solo un profumo, ma un’esperienza che racconta una storia.

I would love to write a review explaining how Xerjoff Opera smells like the most beautiful opera house in the world where every member of the audience is a different version of Princess Grace of Monaco throughout the years; but I will spare you. What you really need to know is there are (at least) two different formulas of this fragrance, which is likely why the reviews are so polarizing. Basically, this was a blind buy based solely on the completely bonkers reviews here. I liked it so much that after about a week I bought two more bottles (because far too often fragrances that I love immediately get discontinued after purchasing). To my surprise, the other two bottles do not smell like the first one. They are much more fruity, warm, and feminine; and do have a cough syrup type of scent that others have mentioned (I think in a good way, but I can see why some might absolutely hate it). The first bottle smells cool, velvety, more masculine (yet unisex), and very clean -- it's absolutely perfect. It smells beautiful when sprayed on a wool garment and leaves behind somewhat of a "luxury" dry cleaning scent. The only fragrance I can compare it to is Tom Ford Lavender Palm (discontinued, of course!), but this is a bit of a stretch as Opera is far more complex and gorgeous. The first bottle I purchased has production and expiration dates stamped on the bottom of the box -- the production date is "07-2025", with a batch number of 29022N. The other two bottles do not have dates on the boxes, and have the batch number 21024N, which would make them older than the first bottle I bought. They also have more of a rose gold-colored sprayer whereas the newer one is more yellow gold. I do not think any of these are fake (if fakes even exist for Opera). I suspect most of the positive reviews are referring to the newer formula. If you don't want something that smells like fruity cough syrup, then you might have to either pay full price and buy from Xerjoff; or try to find a higher batch number (29022N and up, as far as I know). I've seen recent black glass bottles with the batch number 31523N, if that helps. I hope this information is helpful to someone reading these reviews.

Love this fragrance, a nice dark and elegant fragrance. It opens up with a peach like note and some florals, a nice musky bed for all of this to sit on, with some woods and vetiver, has a dirty element to it as well (from the patchouli maybe?). The fragrance then goes into a more leathery type of scent but keeps the floral-fruity aspect throughout and at some point the nutmeg starts coming through. The sillage and projection are not that impressive, they are good don't get me wrong, but it's nothing like erba pura. But the longevity though? It lasted on my skin (as a skin scent) for 2 days. No joke, this thing just grips to your skin. I took 4 showers in these 2 days and i could still barely sense it on my hand. And mind you I washed my hands throughout the days quite a few times, and I could still smell the leather and a sweetness coming through. The scent is unisex and I really can't decide where to put it. I can see this on a woman, because it's a floral sweet scent, but also a man, because it just smells like laundry detergent, like clean clothes just taken out of the washing machine. A very nostalgic smell, one that I've smelled before, like a detergent/softener that my mother used to use when I was young. I asked my girlfriend to blind test this and she said this was a man's fragrance then I asked a friend and he said it smelled manly and then he thought about it for a second and said that it smells feminine. So it's really one of those cases where its 50/50 but the wearer will decide which way this leans. This has become my favorite Xerjoff fragrance as of now just for the uniqueness and the nostalgia it creates. 9/10, maybe 8.5 but I really want to do this scent justice. -I've heard someone that I know and is a fraghead thats more into these darker scents describe this as an olfactory experience, to get your third eye opened. He expressed that it wasn't necessarily that elegant and feels pretty dirty, but I disagreed heavily with him on this one, it is elegant as the name would suggest. EDIT: 4 Days as a skin scent on my hand with quite a few showers and washing my hands. Longest lasting frag on my skin that I've ever tried. I do give it a 9/10.

Warm, textural spice; heady florals; fructose; and supple leather—an intense but intriguing combination. Half of Opera is like floral honey and juice concentrate mixed together in a sticky slurry. The other half is warm, deep nutmeg, and leather so smooth it's almost creamy. At first this was a bit much for me, and I could barely smell anything past the sugary fructose notes, but after wearing it a few times, it's really grown on me. It has smoldering resinous depths as well as vibrant syrupy highs. It's not too youthful, but not too mature either, and if you start to miss your fruity-floral fragrances during the colder months, Opera with its warm, spicy richness is a great way to get your fix. In fact, the more I wear this the more I think of it as a great New Year's Eve scent: tinsel garland and spiced dark liqueur, red lips and wool scarves.

Where do I even start with this absolute BANGER!!??? I can’t believe people call it old lady fragrance, nothing about it gives off an old person scent. This is a highly sophisticated, luxurious, dark fragrance. The notes are so well blended and harmonious with each other which I really appreciate. This brings back old memories for me, and so it’s one of those kinds of fragrances. Do expect the occasions you do wear this one for will turn into long lasting memories. Something about this fragrance is so special. Not an everyday scent, and it’s definitely aimed to be for evenings in cooler months. I can understand why some people just can’t understand this fragrance. Too complex and too deep, but once you like it you won’t be able to un-like it.

This is gonna be a long one. I was in my teens when my stepmom brought a bottle of Ange ou Demon home, and this smells exactly like that. Flowers and sweetness, I don’t get the Vanilla note, but the fruits and patchouli are very present. It’s like a well made fruit cocktail. Fall-winter nights of 2009 while I got ready to go to my first night out with my dad and my stepmom, feminine, sublime and gracious. I used to steal hers secretly and she would always nag at me for it, sweetly, like this fragrance. I got my first bottle Opera yesterday, today I sprayed it all over around 1:30 pm or so, It’s almost 7:00 pm and the scents still hits my nose, im very surprised i haven’t gone noseblind. Perfect for a date night, or a day out...

John Singer Sargent painted a lady with her neck on display in a black heart - shaped bodice dress. The painting is called Madame X (1884.) It toured all over Europe and the US at one point. Resides at the Met. It is life - size. By today's standards, a little more tame than alarming if viewed in-person. Fashionable. Opera by Xerjoff smells like that painting feels. Grand though subdued. Influenced by the black velvet bottle to feel momentous like a low-lit, special occasion piece. Slightly glinted, and proximate to a neverending bain de fleurs. Upright and risqué. The bow of human ingenue. Pretty ylang ylang.

The first spritz is definitely Givenchy Ange ou demon. It changes after like 5 minutes. The scents is definitely not for everyone because it totally lacks the "modern sweetness" that all designer fragrances have in common. But the scent is GORGEOUS. Really unique, mysterious, sexy. True enigma. Totally feminine fragrance but I understand that some might find it masculine, becuase as I said it ́s not the modern feminine sweet fragrance. But a feminine perfume doesn ́t have to be sweet :) If you want to smell mysterious, otherwordly and unaproachable. Great scent. I am really glad I found it.

I don't know what but there is something about this fragrance that is driving my crazy (In a good way).Super sexy and if somebody ask me how one confident attractive woman should smell - that will be my answer. Extremely well made, good projection and the smell is so good.I sprayed a couple of times my wrist and in my humble opinion it is not for men but everybody have different taste of course. If a women is wearing this on first date or if she is in some sort of business meeting she is winning just by entering the room if you know what I mean. Simply beautiful.

We are at the theater. Silence falls among the audience. The curtain opens. A splendid princess appears and the princes, entranced by such beauty, fill her with gifts: some with fine fruit, some with lots of roses. This is the scenario that we want to describe with Opera: refined, with a fruity, exotic opening, which leaves space to a masterfully interpreted rose, lifted by ylang ylang and leathery notes. I think it's the brand's fragrance that I like most. Immediately on wishlist. “Cleopatra before Caesar” by Jean-Léon Gérôme.

It’s true what they say. It smells like old stuff.. old money I’d say. The best way I can describe this fragrance is SOPHISTICATED. It’s not my strenghth to describe notes yet but what I can say is that this is a million dollars scent so no wonder not everyone can wear it. It’s strong, elegant, smells like white pearls on a black velvet dress and heavy crimson curtains in an opera hall. I imagine this is what the members of a secret society would wear. Eyes wide shut on this one.

Rich, near syrupy fruits paired with an equally sweet ylang, all balanced with an earthy spice from the nutmeg and leather. Gets more vanillic as it dries down, but all the aforementioned notes are still there, humming along very strongly. The impression is the gloves of a wealthy woman patron of the opera, a mix of her hand cream and perfume mingling with the leather of her gloves. Cold weather only, I cannot fathom wearing this in the heat, very strong with a major presence.

Wow this is a love at first sniff. This is the perfume that the wives of dracula in van helsing movie i think would wear. It’s like a flower garden inside the cemetery. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t smell like a dead body or something. It’s actually very elegant and a special event type of floral scent. This is strong and polarizing, i did one spray at the back of my head from the sample vial and even after a few hours i can still strongly smell it.

My dumb@ss bought this and have been wearing it happily while trying to figure out what it reminded me of. Then I came here and see Ange ou Demon. Yep, that's it. I grabbed my bottle and sprayed my other arm. My Givenchy bottle is old but it's definitely the same scent. Opera is a higher quality Ange ou Demon with less feminine musk. No need to buy both, just stick with Opera. It doesn't turn after 8 hours like AOD does, the dry down is way better.

As I’ve mentioned in all my previous comments, I’m not great at breaking down notes in a perfume. That said, this smells like money, as if you’ve just taken a shower with handmade Italian soap, crept into a mafia kingpin’s room, and laid down on his huge pile of crisp hundred-dollar bills. There’s a mix of fear that he might barge in on you and the thrill of possibly stealing his cash and his bespoke, fancy, handmade soap.

an old theater, maybe even an old yugoslavian apartment. it just wraps me up in so much nostalgia, it’s warm and comforting in a weird way. basically like comfort found in familiarity of hard times. very strong, and in my opinion also bery unisex. i don’t get much rose or fruity notes from it, but it’s a very specific theatrical blend. truly a masterpiece for me.

This is such a nice herbal-y sweet scent! It has a hilarious cough syrup vibe, a little medicinal but in a great way. This medicinal sweetness doesn't leave the skin for quite a while. It's spicy, fun to wear, quite original (and do try Cabotine Sensuelle, a little sister to Opera, cheaper & lighter). I can't have enough.

Damn I like it!! I love when I end up liking the polarizing frags. I fw this, yummy fruitiness with rose and leather but very well blended together. The nutmeg is adding that extra zing and hardy spice, sample first of course but it’s not difficult at all imo. It’s original and you won’t be smelling like everyone else

This is for an elegant women in a black dress with all her diamonds going to the opera! Definitely female elegance in this. Powdery, fruit, vanilla top and middle. The creamy nutmeg in the dry down is to die for. I can see The Phantom falling for Christine as this scent wafted off her skin ;-)

As others have written, don’t overspray this. If you do you’ll end up with a headache inducing cloud. But if you’re more measured in your application you’ll get a beautiful, sweet, musky, creamy dream of a scent-bubble. 100% fbw. Not all Xerjoffs are easy to love but this one is *chef’s kiss*

The only perfume I've ever considered making a signature scent - just WOW: so different, beast - mode, addictive ... bwst woody - yellow floral combo of notes you'll ever experience. I'd say u can't imagine a man wearing it though as I want it for ME only! ScentualP on TikTok / instagram **

Opera huele a terciopelo negro, definitivamente un perfume inclinado a lo femenino y nocturno. Tiene su aire con ange ou demon si, pero Opera es más opulento, más "cañero" por el cuero tan presente y de mucha más calidad....una de mis mejores opciones para la noche ya sea invierno o verano.

To me it smells like an old school clothes detergent, not in a bad way. Very clean and well blended, I can't defy a single note, but it does smell flowery and a bit fruity. I have it on a tester strip and my whole room just smells like Xerjoff Opera😂. Really strong stuff.

It's amazing how close it is to Valiant from Boadicea the Victorious to me it's a Great masculine scent and definitely a better value than Valiant and it smells great in the summer winter and fall on my skin at last 12 hours plus and I get great compliments women love it

What’s with the variations of different bottles but the same scent? Obviously a marketing scheme, but of course the smell is amazing. Ive smelt the 3 different variations and they are absolutely luxurious. Creamy, nutty and floral with a masculine touch of leather. 🔥

I currently have this, after searching for it. I simply love it. I do not know why, it smells to me like candies. I love the name, it reminds me of... opera =) It's strange, tho, I can not stand it during the whole day. Paradoxically, it stays on me for so long.

This is easily one of my top three favourite fragrances. It feels like the perfect scent for something classy, like going to the opera (just like the name suggests). It really hits the sweet spot for me. The scent is amazing - masculine and classy, elegant.

I find it as a more fruity and a little more creamy version of Kalan by PDM. I like the purity of its components. It's a 3D perfume. Heavy woody ambery and spicy scent that can aggreviate your allergy. Definitely for winter

Very nice female perfume. The way the nutmeg, vanilla, fruit, musk and amber play together makes it very creamy and attractive scent.

Ange ou Démon's hot skin and sand accord amped up to eleven. I think it would shine in hot and humid air, with an inch of sweat.

i get all the wood and some fruitness but no rose or musk its very dark wear at under 15 degrees

#63 of My Fragrance Journey - Xerjoff Opera: A Performance of Shadow and Skin Opera isn’t something you casually spray on and forget. It doesn’t really allow that. From the first hit, it asks for your attention... and then keeps it. Heavy. Textured. Almost physical. One of those fragrances where you immediately think, okay, I get why people talk about this. The opening comes in rich and almost overripe - dark fruits, slightly jammy, wrapped around Turkish rose. If rose usually makes you nervous (it does for me), relax. This isn’t a polite bouquet. The rose stays low, velvety, shadowed. It supports rather than leads. There’s something plush and dramatic here, but never shrill. Then - fairly quickly, actually - the air thickens. The fruit steps back, and things turn darker, more serious. Spices, worn leather, amber... that smell of an old theatre when the lights go down. Dusty velvet seats. Heat trapped in wood. It feels mature, yes, but not dated. More... knowing. Ylang-ylang slips in with a controlled sweetness, just enough to keep things sensual without tipping into syrup. That said - let’s be honest - this stuff is dense. Potent. Borderline dangerous if you’re heavy-handed. On some skin, it can read medicinal, even sticky, if you overspray. Two sprays is seductive. Three is pushing it. Four? You’re no longer whispering, you’re shouting from the balcony. The dry-down is where Opera really settles into itself. Musk, vanilla, patchouli, Haitian vetiver - all melted together into this creamy, expensive warmth that clings to fabric and memory alike. It feels old-money without being dusty. Intimate, but commanding. And it just... stays. Easily 12 hours, if not more. Final thoughts: Opera is olfactory theatre, full stop. It’s not modern minimalism, and it doesn’t try to be friendly. It’s for cold nights, dark rooms, and people who understand that luxury doesn’t sparkle - it lingers. If you want something easy or airy, look elsewhere. But if you want to feel a fragrance, really feel it... Opera delivers.
