Formula 3 by Dalton Maldonado

I have decided to blind buy this bottle since this company does not provide samples and I refuse to buy the Vibe spray because I am not sure if it is water based. I think that could drastically change my opinion of a fragrance. It does make a big difference if something is based in H2O or Alcohol, and that would make a big difference in my review. I think they should offer samples. It is ridiculous for a company to expect you to buy a full bottle based on a blind buy. Although I did it. LOL But not sure if I will do it again with some of the others. Whereas, I might of if I could have sampled them first. There were 3 others I was interested in trying but I did not feel like buying 4 bottles of fragrance without having tried one before to know what I am getting into. (Especially since I am in Canada and need to import the shipment.) I have to admit that I have been sceptical of this company. I like it that they blaze their own trail with unusual celebrity choices, and create very unique scents. There is something gimmicky, but also something interesting about that. I like the way they present their fragrances, (branding, marketing, bottle design, etc) I also wanted to support You Can Play since I am a avid support of the LGBQT community. Having read the notes and being familiar with DM in the media, I was intrigued. So today when I received the package I was a bit taken back because the black case it came in, arrived in a tattered cardboard box. Perhaps it was opened by customs, but there was no customs stamp anywhere. There was no shrink wrap around the case, but the case was stunning. It was a black case with a gold zipper. I zipped it open to try the bottle. The bottle was beautiful too. Although there were small details that lacked that special touch. The cap of the bottle sat slightly slanted on the bottle. It was bent/crooked. The label on the bottle appeared slightly stained at the bottom. There was condensation in the cap but I tested the sprayer and it had not been sprayed, so that was a relief. On the back of the case there is a spot to hand write the name of your fragrance. This was left blank. These are small details, and not to brag, but I do consider myself a somewhat sophisticated consumer. So these are the types of things I look for, personal touch, something special, etc. So where they lose points for me, is in the presentation. Now to the fragrance. I gave myself 4 healthy sprays to ensure proper testing. The word that comes to mind is FRESH. And Yes, in a very Unisex way. The grapefruit smells fresh. I was a little worried about the grass and I had pictured that old Grass fragrance from the GAP. However, the grass note is so subtle that if you weren't told about it you would never notice it. I love the grapefruit in the opening. The notes in the opening are really fresh. The Drydown is perfect to pair with a white cotton T-Shirt. It reminds me of a T-Shirt that has just been laundered. (Not quite Bounce drier sheets accord?) Very clean, crisp, but not soapy oddly enough. Strange that he is a basketball player because the Ozonic accord reminds me of being outdoors on a soccer/football field on a clear sunny day. Very unique. The most sophisticated a youthful fragrance can be. If that makes any sense. I feel like it is perfect for young people or people that wish they were. (Quiet Peanut Gallery) To me this is the perfect summer scent. I have to say though, this fragrance smells very synthetic. It does not smell any more natural than your liquid laundry detergent. Very synthetic, but in a pleasing fresh way. Besides, what musk isn't synthetic these days? And, How do you bottle the smell of a clear blue sky? I think Xyrena has come close. I can reassure you though, that if you wear this you will smell great. Boy does it project. There is staying power with the longevity. The synthetics remind me of the types of synthetic notes in some of the new 2015 Lacoste's. However if given the choice I would choose this one over those three. A great fragrance. Give it a try, In my opinion this is a great scent for people that are active and need something to spray on after that gym shower. Worth a blind buy after all, in this case anyway.
