Tobago

So excited when these first arrived I forgot to add this one to my profile until today. Zanzibar and Home Port just floored me and Mother claimed my 10 ml Cabo rollerball, so poor Tobago got lost in the shuffle and I can honestly say I'm ashamed of myself for not wearing and reviewing this sooner... Yachtsman fragrances are tuly a breath of fresh air, not only in how they smell but in their construction and how they meld with your skin chemistry and become a part of your own scent. Tobago opens with fresh subtle citruses (amalfi lemon, tangerine and mandarin) that are not really juicy-tart but lush and fresh. The frangipani flower is a huge blossom from the tropics that imparts a lazy tropical feel to this and adds a slight floral air without seeming too utterly feminine. The heart of rosemary's pungent green and allspice's heady scent is balanced exquisitely by wisteria's soft almost powdery quality and despite yet another floral remains well-balanced and utterly genderless but without the usually generic unisex feel. The drydown is a stunning blend of vetiver and moss with ginger root's smoothness and tobacco's richness. This is a true treasure that is tropical but not sweet-fuity, spicy but not too warm and earthy yet never dirty or too woody. A masterful blend of natural essences that despite the amount of notes is smooth and subtle with a laid-back Carribean feel. I see a FB in my life very soon... Sillage: just right Longevity: very good Overall: 4.5/5 All in all Yachtsman fragrances are a very affordable natural essence oil based line that smell wonderful and impart a natural aura about the wearer but never smell 'perfumey'. Each and every one of them is stunning and different but exude quality and originality. Tobago takes you to the West Indes with all its warmth and sweetness and leaves you feeling relaxed and recharged...

On me Tobago evolves a great deal. The opening is soapy (as is Zanzibar) and sweet. It is more clearly floral than Zanzibar, but at the same time has an earthy greenness (I can't think how else to explain it). To me it is not overly citrussy: the citrusses support but do not dominate the frangipani, the balance is perfect. After a minute or so it has an interesting overall accord, which is slightly reminiscent of the "sweet smelling smoke" I use to pass through when I walked past groups of students at my university campus 20 or so years ago. You know the sort I mean. Fifteen or so minutes later and the spiciness comes through more strongly. "A subtle hint of cloves" I thought, but looking at the notes I see it is allspice. Very nice. This stage of the fragrance's evolution is my favourite and lasts the longest. Towards the end, tobacco is most prominent, with slight hints of ginger. It is a great fragrance, perhaps more on the feminine side than masculine. The longevity is about an hour on my skin before it become quite subdued and I smell mainly basenotes, though perhaps I have been a little stingy in applying the precious sample.

Tobago opens with a burst of citrus resulting in an immediate sense of happiness. The citrus is not in your face, astringent or sharp- perhaps this is due to the balance of frangipani. Middle notes begin to come through and intermingle delightfully with the tangerine/mandarin top notes. Suddenly I'm back in my childhood preparing spiced oranges for Christmas. (The ones when you stuck cloves all over an orange the hung it to dry for weeks?)Then, the last stage is just as lovely- soft and sweet and inticing. Two thumbs up!!

It is very nice fragrance! I like all Yachtsman but Tabago is one of my favorite. Frangipani and citrus make it very tropical but it is not only 'famine' fragrance, men can ware it without problem. Composition is very nice, ingredients are very good and rich. It is obvious that is not low budget fragrance.

Tobago, so far is my favourite from the Yachtsman Fragrance range. It's more on the feminine side in my opinion, however it would smell interesting on a man. Tobago is possibly one of the most exotic fragrances I've come across. The scent is rather difficult to describe. I will try my best to review this amazing scent. Tobago opens with sweet citrus, rich tangerine and tropical frangipani. The opening is strong, so intense that it creates a certain aura around you. I was hooked on this scent the moment I applied it. The spiciness kicks in the moment the top notes settle. For a moment the rosemary and pepper smell tomato like, rather like a rich, authentic Italian pasta sauce. When the sweet citrus and frangipani notes dissipate, I am left with an intense richness that leaves me utterly bewildered. If you have ever smelt a packet of cigarettes, you'd know the addictive, almost raisin-like smell it has. This is what I smell here. Strong tobacco, rosemary, vetiver and ginger. Odd, yet delicious. The heart continues with gusto for many hours, however eventually it softens into a soapy and slightly musky drydown. The drydown for me is particularly feminine and pretty. The lasting power of Tobago is the strongest in the series, lasting well for around four hours on my skin. I highly recommend.

The one which is closest to actually modern fruity florals. But as all of Yahtsman perfumes it has a trick inside, which makes them so diffrent than others, so unique:) The spices. Not sweet and stunning but fresh and stinging. Cinnamon, cloves and black pepper (i think so...:), all mixed with citruses. I culd wear this on evening party and feel sexy and warm but if i met a man wearing it i probably should use cold shower for myself...;)how i like spices on men!:)

If I would have a boyfriend, I would force him to wear Tobago: it is floral, spicy, creamy even - with manlyness in it too! I love it. And if he would wear it, I could use it also from time to time... Without losing my femininity. Normally I'm a bit anxious about citrusses, because of my skincomplexion and stuff, but here: no problem at all! Not annoying whatsoever. I think I like this one the most.

I feel Tobago is definitely on the masculine side even though it's fairly sweet. This makes me think of an elite ocean side bar during a cool autumn where you find lots of polished wood, and men in nubby wool sweaters. There is something that is very textural about Tobago, I think perfect for the fall. It would be so cozy and yummy on a very masculine man.

I am wearing it at the moment and what I am feeling is something that the air of this yachting paradise would be like this. It takes me back in my sweet memories. The beginning is sweet and soft and later I can smell all spices with the hint of tobacco and the sweet flowery notes are still there. Perfect for both men and women.

My favorite of the Yachtsman fragrances. It started powerful and sweet on me, it hung heavily like the moment before the storm strikes. The mix of flowers, fruits, and spices are perfectly blended and balanced. Now, eight hours later, it has mellowed to a soft, gentle, powdery, caressing scent. I'm in love with this one!

Spicy aromatic flowers, but not in the way of carnation. Don't be afraid of too many citruses at the top, everything is perfectly balanced.

I live in Trinidad & Tobago and this fragrance pretty much smells like Tobago <3

Last November 2009, I was staying at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. The bath products they had was the line Agraria, the scent Bitter Orange. I fell in love with the scent of the soap and wanted it in a fragrance. In the Venetian Gift shop, they sold everything in the line except the fragrance. So I was left longing for that specific scent. I no longer have to wait, Tabago is very close to that citrus spice smell. I kept smiling the entire time I was wearing Tabago.

The notes that come out the strongest on my skin are the spices. They somewhat even remind of christmas (which is a really good thing). I think Tobago is a perfect fragrance for wintertime. It's definately an NGS (Non Gender Specific as Jon Verde preferes). In the base notes I can separate the masculine and feminine notes. The tobacco makes it very masculine but there is also something sweet in it which makes this fragrance also suitable for women.

this is such a tremendous fragrance . lovely , lively , lovable !! on me it starts sweet with some kind of very very calm soothing woodsy notes that are hidden in the background. it gives such a warm exotic sensation that evokes all kinds of feelings ! it stays on me about 6 hours which is great really . i think these fragrances are very high quality and definetly worth trying . 10/10 magnificently .

Tobago is my No. 1 from Yachtsman range. On my skin it opens as a powdery fruity cocktail with a drop of salty sea air mixed in. I get very little citrus notes on me. It is warm, sensous and airy at the same time. Later it becomes spicy, mossy, dry and powdery with a little tropical sweetness in it. It is truly a beautiful unisex fragrance. If Tobago smells like this, I wanna sail there!...

I received my Yachtsman samples a few weeks ago, so thank you John Verde. I find all four of them to be too masculine for me to wear, but I liked Zanzibar the most. It reminds me somehow of one of Lolita Lempicka's fragrances-Si Lolita. It has the same mix of citrus, pepper and creamy wood, just in a definite masculine way. Very nice and refreshing fragrance.

This one didn't work on me. It begins as a clean citrus with spicy notes, slight wood tones and tobacco, but the allspice note comes up very like plastic on my skin and doesn't go away. The blend is very nice, but that allspice ruined it for me. Pass.

starts fresh and spicy - an odd but winning combination.. then it dries down into something I can describe in only one way - mesmerizing.. an absolutely perfect fragrance :)
