Khadine

My dear friend John Biebel enlightened me on the existence of Yardley Khadine and he already has a fantastic article regarding it on Fragrantica—please do give it a read. I recently found a bottle and decided to wear some—one a 100 degree F (38 degree C) day, no less. I had no regrets, as this burgeoned a beauty that arrested me. What is most striking on my skin is this gummy-green galbanum layered over a sonorous violet-iris incense. I get a spicy rose, peppery carnation and thick tarragon as it advances into the heart, and the sensation of incense grows smokier and muskier. Khadine feels both mysterious and impactful, and I agree with John that it is shockingly quite modern in design. I can't help but to feel that I could easily fool someone in a blind test that this is a contemporary release, partly due to there being little in the way of oakmoss in its dry down. It's almost as if it's a direct link between Raymond Chaillan's vision and Christopher Sheldrake with his work for Serge Lutens. What a spectacular treat! Now I must revisit it during autumn's chill and smell how it responds in those conditions.

I agree with other reviewers, this one smells better on skin than in the bottle. In the bottle we have a cheap aldehyde and grocery store bouquet floral, but upon application, it morphs into something very much like Pucci Vivara. Galbanum makes it lifted and green, and there is definitely a note of incense, it smells like leather to me. The sweet florals and a light powder are more evident in the drydown. Very enjoyable, but for the price, you can get Vivara more easily. Certainly wear anything anytime it strikes you, but to me, this is a spring/summer chypre. Daytime wear.

Has anyone tried the fragrance revival dupe of this? Please dm or post a comment here reviewing cuz this perfume is getting harder to find anymore :c this was one of my Oma’s perfumes and I absolutely adore it! It smells like her hugs 💓 I agree with the other commenters that this fragrance smells like it could be a contemporary release! It’s beautiful scent and I wish it would be rereleased.

Very interesting. I can't wait to try this again when the weather starts to turn from sweltering heat to cool autumn breezes. This reminds me a great deal of Jean Desprez Sheherazade, except perhaps more spicy and with some aldehydes. I definitely get incense and balsamic notes as the standout. I'm not sure that I'm getting iris next, but perhaps carnation. There are florals, but I can't pick them out. They're just part of the warm, slightly powdery whole. The concentrated cologne is quite strong and the presentation box is just so lovely in a maximalist way. I do think I'm getting aldehydes here, but they're not super sharp and bright like in No 5 or First or anything like that. They're like a nice warm veil that also gives some lift to the other, elements of the perfume which are all very heavy.

☆ special thanks to PookLucio whom graciously shared a sample of this with me & thus gifted me with one of the most special days in my Life. I'll explain. I'd been wanting to smell this for several years to see if this was that glorious scent I remember my mum always smelled of. She passed when I was only 8yrs old & her things were long gone by the time I came of age to be purchasing scents for myself. Felt guilty for being unable to remember what mum looked without the aid of a picture. However, the one thing I'd NEVER forgotten is how my mum smelled 😌. If I closed my eyes & thought about it, I could even faintly recall the scent. Isn't that weird? For several years, I inquired of my aunts & father of the name of that perfume she always wore. Given a few names, of course I went to eBay, purchased the smallest or least costly listing of those few scents & in vintage formulation, in an attempt to find it. To no avail 😞. Yardley Khadine never came up in those conversations. Then, one day, I was leafing thru an older magazine I'd checked out from my college library. Twas a periodical I'd been using as reference material for a paper due ... the old fashioned way, lol. That was when I saw an add for Yardley Khadine. I LITERALLY GOT GOOSEBUMPS in recalling that SAME round ball bottomed flacon with the wide flowery covered cap sitting on mum's vanity when I was a child! The remainder of that day, all I could think was "Could that heavenly smell of mum BE KHADINE ? " By then, my pops & my aunts (mum's sisters) had also passed & thus, I'd nobody to ask. Of course, I turned to eBay to acquire the fragrance to investigate the possibility of it being that divine scent mum wore & which I'd developed somewhat of a NEED to experience. To my utter dissappointment, EVERY listing I found online on various sites was pretty expensive. Too much for me to justify going that far outside of my budget whilst working to put myself through school. Committed to saving for a few months until I COULD acquire even a small 2oz bottle, which I might be able to afford at around $125 🤞🏼. I'd feel both frustrated & dissappointed 2C every month the listing prices kept escalating. What the heck ? The stuff CAN'T BE like liquid gold, can it? Ug I was tirmed on to THIS SITE by a friend 👍 & the first scent I looked up was Yardley Khadine. There was that bottle again. Again the goosebumps. I'd all but decided I couldn't wait another day & was to give in & just buy the cheapest listing I could find for this fragrance - which on that day was $119 for an about 60% full 2oz spray, one of only 3 listings among the 4 sites I checked for it. That was when I saw PookLucio's review & asked - no, begged for a sample. Could anything be sweeter than her shipping me a sample of this the next day & at her own expense? After learning why I was so curious of the scent, she explained I could send the postage later if I remembered & wished to, and that she insisted I accept the sample she would insure shipping the very next day. Well yes, in fact, there IS something more sweet: that sample was delivered two days later .... and *I'm tearing up even tuping this* IT WAS MY MUM'S FRAGRANCE 🤗 🥳❗️I could hardly even believe it ❗️ I doused myself, went to my bedroom, lay down & imagined I was once again, at age 26, being cuddled by my mum & not the bedcover and I cried myself to sleep. It'd been YEARS since recalling how painful it had been losing .... and worse, missing my mum 😢 😭. Next day, I called PookLucio whom had included her number with the sample & profusely thanked her. I asked her if SHE had any to sell & she told me she didn't, but how she buys a LOT of frags every week & she would look out for me. That was fine & I resolved btwn her looking for me & my own hunting for an affirdable bottle, I knew I'd (eventually) be in possession of that glorious scent of mum and once I had my own, could always turn to a few spritzes whenever I felt I needed or missed mum, right ? Good things come to those who wait my mum used to tell me. Three days later, I received an unexpected package? I hadn't ordered anything, so at first was confused. Then, I noticed the return address. PookLucio sent me HER OWN 6oz BOTTLE OF THIS FRAGRANCE with about half remaining & explained to me she would eventually find another for herself & that after hearing my story & experience simply could not keep her bottle & what remained & she wanted ME to have it! She expressed her condolescences at the loss of my mum and told me she did NOT expect pymt for the bottle. Rather she explained, I should look upon the bottle of fragrance as a gift from mum, whom undoubtedly waited fir the right time to insure serendipity would insure HER GIFTING ME THE BOTTLE 😭. *choking up again, lol* A year passed & I graduated, got a GREAT job and have since purchased about 10 frags from PookLucio ! I LOVE Khadine but only wear her if/when I want 2B close to mum. Now, finally, let me tell you about the fragrance! Again, PookLucio's review (below) hits the nail on the head. Its a spicy Iris bomb ! I'm not great with notes (yet) as a newbie perfumista , but I CAN detect the hard hitters in THIS fragrance rather easily gor whatever reason? It is pretty strong off the bat & remains having a lengthy longevity & far reaching sillage, so DO NOT overapply is my advice. It begins with a potent blast of Iris & carnation with a constant wave of incense running sweetly in the background all the while. Oh and musk : it rears itself ever so slowly within an hour of application and only wanes near the last remnants detectable at the end if a hood 6-8 hours on me & longer if Ibspray my clothes. I pulled a sweater out of my closet yesterday and smelled khadine clear as day on the sweater ... and it had been over a week since I'd worn & rehung the sweater, lol. How's THAT for lasting strength ! In addition to the iris beginning is muted faint tones of Violet. Being a lover of all things violet, Khadine fits that bill nicely. As for the spices? Cinnamon is picked up after only an hour of the drydown and also seems 2B present thereafter .... if only faintly .... Again, I'm not especially olfactory talented this early in my journey, so am unable to share more of MY Khadine experience(s) regarding notes. I can only share despite others not having the special non objective connection as do I with this fragrance, I cannot see how ANYBODY would NOT find this scent appealing? Its bold yet cozy, HOT 🔥 yet only very warm, if that makes sense ? For lovers of spice in fragrances, you cannot go wrong. If anything might be considered a "con", perhaps it would be the scent IS kinda reminiscent of a bohemian, hippie-ish vibe , what with the woody musk undertones? I hate to encourage too much interest personally. Because, as you can probably pick up on, I'll be needing to replenish my own inventory of this fragrance for a long time to come & don't really need further competition for the measly listings which are already pricey to say the least, lol. Enjoy! ☆ Remembet to goto PookLucio if you are looking for ANY vintage frag & you'll NOT be dissappointed by this honest seller of unadulterated fragrances !

WOWsa ! Yardley Khadine packaging comes off all calm hippy serene-like ... but geezus 😳 does she pack a punch 👊❗️ THIS IS one s-p-i-c-y 🔥 lady ! Reminds me of an old Def Lepperd song (I think it was DL?) 🎼 🎶 "Lovin every minute of it" 🎵 For the seriously spicy afficienado 🥰, ---> which turns out , I AM 🤙 🔴 Also ❓️ I mean NO OFFENSE to anybody on here regarding either reviews or sharing of one's "smells or reminds me of" votes or whatnot .... but I PERSONALLY am experiencing NOTHING 🚫 in common w/Dune 🤷🏽♀️❓️ In fact, *gulp* I reeeeeally dislike 😝 Dune .... a lot. THIS STUFF tho ... is sooooo yum yummers 😋 Its "peppery", but NOT in a 'Black Opium' sorta way 🤔❓️ I HAD to laugh at the review mentioning the kick ass Prada Iris analogy bcuz THAT review is spot on for me as well 👍 & I enjoy Prada Iris & am quite familiar Sadly ❓️ I'm prolly THE WORST perfumista/fraghead owning a collection of over 1500 different scents .... in terms of a complete lack of ability to pick out &/or communicate note(s) .... so there IS that 🥴. Since the notes are available here tho .... can DEF smell the Iris & insense👌 NOT sayin it SMELLS like this next mention: Only that I CAN relate the "experience" of Khadine to that of having a cup of warm Chai tea .... if THAT makes sense to anybody 🙄 .... like a warm spicy "vibe"❓️ Bottom line: IF you appreciate the type & quality of components found in vintage frags AND you enjoy a good spicy scent, then I seriously recommend givin this one a whirl 😌 Heard about awhile ago & took me three years to finally acquire a fairly full 6oz in pristine packaging .... for a price I consider justifiable for a blind buy * ~ $185 for 6oz cologne concentrate + BNIB powder too After the fact ❓️ I'd DEF buy another priced even higher if/when I run out. But then, spicy orientals ARE my "thing" ☺️❗️ .... gosh, can't believe I waited so long to get her. .... ah well ❓️..... add it to the list of deathbed regrets & learn from mwah 🤭

I just got this today , right after my morning shower , it came before I had finished my routine , so thrilled it did . I placed a rub on each wrist , right out of the bottle taking a whiff does not do this " beauty " justice. It does not smell like it wears , that is for sure , it smells " of alcohol and cheap " . I can see why my mom did what she did , not knowing this scent . This takes a finger to place , it is everything I remember my " Gran " smelling like and more , it is a slice of " heaven " , This was the only perfume she wore , it was her signature. She was a tough bird , my gran , she was no nonsense . I did not want to disappoint her , I loved her that much , so I never touched her personal items. When my mom cleared out her house she found 6 new boxes of the 6 ounce bottles , she opened a lid on one , thought these had gone bad and threw them all out . I was not there , I was at work , and I cried when she told me that . I got the 3.5 ounce full , none missing , the top floral image is a paper glued on and the box is a bit " ruff " around the edges , but no matter , this is not going anywhere , She has found her " home " and here she will stay. I'm so happy , I'm beside myself with joy ///=^ } ~ There is no real dry down on this , maybe a few minutes overall to get that " delicious " send off ~ you get all notes , more for me is the musk , violet , a bit of iris and incense , and lastly a bit of sandalwood ~ Yum

AHHH Khadine! Yes!! 1968. My older sister (17)added the bottle to her collection.My eleven year-old self thought it was one of the most divine scents I'd ever experienced! As it turns out ....at 61 I still feel that way.They simply don't make them this way any more.Back then it was the fad to smell to the high-heavens with whatever floated your boat....youth & youthful hormones had everything to do with that....but what you did end up with are scents so potent a bottle of the same today would last YEARS. The value of ultra concentrated scent is real, but the light hand required for optimal enjoyment is a disciplined art that doesn't sit well with eager,hot & hurried little hands! And of course theres the economic consideration that unfortunately, looms largest and dominates. Fragrance, )for the masses) like music, has become nothing about art, but simply an economic endeavor.These days true perfume is reserved for those who can easily drop 3-4-500$$ an ounce. Mass produced sugar /candy/synthetic/water, is all that is offered, for the middle-lower classes. You're not likely to insist on something you've never known.How ever for those who do insist... if money is the challenge you can use this unfortunate state of affairs to expand your knowledge and skill. If you are a true and appreciative lover of the gift of sense of smell, you will find ways to seek- out and experience what you love!

I just had to check this one out , I remember seeing the bottle on my Grandmother's vanity , but have no idea what this smells like on anyone other than my " Gran " . It's a pretty bottle . So I went looking around and found it on eBay , there are a couple of 6 ounce bottles, one for $65.00 no box , the other 6 ounce was $200.00 price wise. I was getting ready to go and saw one 3.5 ounce with box for bid , I got it for a great price , if I don't like I can always trade or sell . It is a 1968 original , no reformulated scentual here , or a knockoff or dupe { not knocking } those , I have a few. I will get it next Saturday , unless delivery is delayed. I'm so excited . I adore iris , musk with patchouli , spices and ylang ylang . I will post once I receive to inform those uncertain of this beauty ~ ///=^} ~ I just got a message from the person selling the 6 ounce w/o box { mer9397 } willing to let it go for 59.50 , so if anyone looking too deal ~

Oh, after leaving one of my rare reviews below, I thought perhaps I should let my fellow fragheads know Ima hippy-at-heart & therefore, willing to share 😌. I rarely check messages HERE, but altho am NOT a vintage frag "seller" per se .... I have been selling off frags solely for purpose of downsizing what has become a frankly ridiculous collection 🥵 on a site beginning with "MER" 😉. Listings include A LOT of unwanteds, excess inventory of beloved frags, dissappointing blind buys & gifted scents I've HAD 2B careful to NOT re-gift. I'm CLO & can be found usually by searching on either copper or frag items & specifically, a Joseph Heinrichs Sterling Lobster Pot 😉. Its been there yrs & I suspect shall remain, lmao .... Khadine was one of the most exquisite perfumes I have ever worn in my life. It reflected a time when the Western World began looking beyond its accustomed attitudes and perspectives and the mysterious beauty of the East was unfolding. I wore this fragrance as a young and adventurous high school student despite the fact that it really was far more sophisticated than other popular Yardley scents of innocent lily of the valley and tender lavender worn by my friends. Had I known that so many years later I would still be loving it I would have stashed away a lifetime's worth!

Is it gone forever or do they still make it in London or somewhere? It sounds intriguing, very Oriental and mysterious.
