Lily Of The Valley Contemporary Edition

One of my best cheap treasures ever! I don't know the original version of this perfume and cannot compare the two. In its simplicity the scent represent this exact season; April, the rain and the lily-of-the-valley, which will soon start blooming in the gardens around where I live. The opening is a floral blast of lily-of-the-valley, but as the scent starts settling, the pear appears as well. The dry down gives the soapy and clean feeling, which is pleasant and not overpowering. Surprisingly, it lasts longer than I've expected; 3 hours and counting. Great find!

Speaking to the Amazon box with the 250 Years on it. This does smell like the little bells that I had growing outside my door when I was highlander. I actually love this rendition. I also love Guerlain Mugeut, which is glorious. I get straight up LOTV in both. If you are looking for a budget friendly one, this is my pick. The price is right!

Kuumba Made's LOTV is still the best IMHO. But...this is quite pleasant. Oldschool? ABSOLUTELY. Don't let the term "contemporary" lead you astray; this might be a relaunch, but it still has a decidedly classic perfume nature. It's nearly a soliflore. I don't get any pear in here at all, but it kind of smells like it contains a sweet orange? It throws me off. At any rate, it has a dash of musk. Ultimately, quite soapy (but LOTV makes me think of soap), and quite obvious LOTV. It cannot be mistaken for another floral in my mind, so Yardley accomplishes that mission here. Spring-like, floral, and as clean as the driven rain. 🌧

Lily of the Valley by YARDLEY is a wonderful green & clean Lily of the Valley-fragrance. Smells very natural, crisp and pleasant. To me they a simple, comfortable, casual yet classy scent. I get compliments of smelling like the spring when im wearing this parfume Im a big fan of English parfume, and English period dramas, and Yardleys parfumes pretty much sums that up. I think i ́m gonna have a collection of Yardley parfumes.

If you like the scent of Lily of the Valleys you'll like this perfume. To me, it smells exactly like the flower itself and it lasts longer than for example Yardley's April Violets or English Rose on me. It's very, very flowery and a little bit to much if you easily get headaches or migraines. I wouldn't wear it at work. But perfect for a garden party outdoors, or a dinner on a summer evening.

I'm wearing this today during incredibly hot humid weather. I love it because its so soapy and green. I had the soap first and just couldn't resist this

Crisp, sweet and fresh scent- enlivens the senses.....I found it to be a great cure for my hangover this morning!!

very first spray smells EXACTLY like sunscreen on me, until dry-down, then it's a pleasant soft white floral, with a little spritz of pear. it's a tad sparkly-feeling in my opinion, a bit soapy as well. i dont enjoy this as much as i enjoy the rose, but they're quite good mixed together.

Yardley is a very British brand, polite and old-fashioned, even tired. I primarily associate Yardley with lavender-scented soap - pleasant but unexciting. But I cannot resist a reasonably-priced soliflore, and adore a good muguet scent, so I blind-bought this for a song. Unfortunately, Lily Of The Valley is far from a good muguet scent. In fact, there is very little muguet at all. There is a slight soapiness and a thin, musky base. It is slightly sweet, slightly ozonic with a bitter metallic aftertaste, synthetic throughout. LOTV is a subtle scent throughout, opening with a chemical haze, reminiscent of cheap sunscreen. This gives way to the musk, which smells grey and sterile. There is a soapiness here too - a quality often associated with lily-of-the-valley, but here it is thin and detergent-like. It becomes slightly sweet as it progresses, likely thanks to the pear note, but remains synthetic. I'm not surprised that freesia is listed above - although I don't get much of a floral accord, the aquatic sweetness here is in keeping with how freesia presents in fragrance. It becomes metallic on my skin as it fades. Sillage is intimate and longevity is weak. It is a feminine-leaning springtime day scent. A drab, watery, synthetic scent, LOTV is cheap-smelling, but subtle enough to not be repulsive. I wonder how this "Contemporary" version compares to the original. Look elsewhere for muguet - there are many excellent versions on the market, but this sure isn't one. Still, given its price point, it was worth a try. Dull as ditchwater. 1/5.

I love Lily of The Valley (LotV) so I really looked forward to wearing this perfume on a regular basis for college or general outings. Unfortunately, the smell doesn’t last at all. I tried spraying it all over me, on my clothes, neck, pulse points etc, but it doesn’t last for more than 3hrs. Perhaps because LotV perfumes generally have weak longitivtiy. In terms of the smell, it’s decent but the initial spray smells rather synthetic. Perhaps this is because LotV is often synthetically made in perfumes as you can’t get much from the oils of the flower naturally. After the initial spray, the scent became pure LotV with elements of green in there too. There isn’t much to write home about but it’s a lovely scent of you like the flower. With perfumes like this, you’re balancing on a fine line between smelling like a perfume and smelling like a room fragrance. Yardley slightly leans towards room fragrance for me, but it’s doesn’t topple over the edge by smelling like Febreeze.

I love the scent of lily's but for me this one is very green and weedy smelling. The fragrance itself is very strong so you don't need a heavy hand while spraying. The lily is there but the green overpowers the scent on me. I was really hoping to like this one but alas it is just not for me. If anyone is interested in a 4.2 oz bottle let me know!

I am disappointed as I can’t smell Lily of the valley or freesia. All I can small is pear and a spicy fragrance. I will stick with Diorissimo, it is expensive but does have a lovely Lily of the valley scent and lasts for a long time. This product did not last for very long at all.

I bought this from Amazon because I remember having Yardley Lily of the Valley and Coty Muguet des Bois as a child, but this new reformulation doesn't smell like the actual flower or either of those perfumes. Instead, it's oddly crisp and spicy. Unpleasant. I can't smell anything floral in it, at all. Truly weird. Molinard Muguet turned out to be an accurate replacement, though.

I am very fond of traditional Yardley floral fragrances. I own a vintage bottle of a 1960’s Yardley LOTV iteration, which is stunningly green and fresh. This current version was given a modern tweak by adding pear in 2015, when pear, lychee and other watery fruits were (bad pun alert) the flavour of the month. That’s fine. Every company needs to move with the times. This version is fun and fresh on a hot day, and not bad quality for the price. If you are looking for a cheapie “soliflore” LOTV fragrance, don’t buy the contemporary Yardley, as it is more of a floral aquatic ( I know, I know, the scent of LOTV can’t actually be extracted from the plant, so any fragrance calling itself a soliflore LOTV is a big fat fibber). If you are looking for a traditionally scented body lotion however, I highly recommend the contemporary Yardley LOTV in the pump bottle. I purchased this in October, 2025 and the quality is excellent! Hats off to Ye Olde Yardley. It is also vegan friendly and cruelty free. As for the fragrance, it IS the traditional soft green powdery LOTV scent, and makes a good layering base for Diorissimo, Jessica McClintock and LOTV by Penhaligons etc. I find though that I don’t actually need to wear anything on top of the body lotion, because, while it isn’t a beast, projection is about arms length. The scent lasts for almost an entire day and my skin still feels moisturised for that length of time. For under $20 Australian, you won’t regret buying this high quality, low budget body lotion.

Fragrance Review For Lily Of The Valley Yardley Top Notes Pear Middle Notes Lily of the Valley Freesia Base Notes Musk This is probably the dullest and most cheaply made of the Yardley fragrances. It wears more like Lily of the Valley by DEMETER FRAGRANCE which are always such fleeting scents that never last long enough. Yardley is a household product type of fragrance and by that I mean that they wear more like very beautiful floral air freshner for your home. I do love classic Yardley Lavender and Rose but this, this is not a good Lily of the Valley scent. It doesn't pretend to be anything heavy but it is too weak and the scent completely disappears in less than an hour. It's got a chemically recreated pear and a green note. Then there's a faint lily of the valley. I still enjoy to smell this fragrance but I find myself just spraying it all over my house like I was fumigating the house. Very green and floral but unfortunately it doesn't last long. The scent of lily of the valley always feels like spring time and like a park so I enjoy layering this scent with stronger lily of the valley. For better LOTV scents check out Crab Tree & Evelyn Lily of the Valley as well as Muguet de Bois by Coty.

I avoided the contemporary edition of this for years, based on reports I had read, as well as one bad bottle that seemed to indicate the products sold in the U.S. had been ruined. Finally took a chance on an Amazon listing with a photo of an older package and bottle, only to have it arrive as the newest version, in the box with "Celebrating 250 Years" on the label. But what do you know? It's actually pretty good, even if it's not exactly the same as I remember. And it's much more long lasting, without being overpowering. It's just lightly sweet on me, with no screechy or powdery notes. I've given up trying to track the different formulations, but I suspect Yardley's LOTV has been changed more than once in the past 10 years.

The first perfume I ever owned. I saved up my pocket money for this delightful perfume way back when I was in primary school. ( my love affair with all things fragrant started young!!!) I must have been 10 or 11. It was in a little chemist shop about a mile from my home. I can remember walking all the way, a mile seemed a long way then. Recently I was talking perfumes, (yet again) with my sister. We were reminiscing about 70's perfumes. The next day I spotted this in TK Maxx...I had to buy it. Lily of the Valley will always hold a little place in my heart

Pros: It smells EXACTLY like lily of the valley. Cons: Lily of the valley smells great outside growing in a garden, but it smells cheap on skin. Also, HEADACHE. That said, this reminds me of Calyx, except Calyx doesn’t smell cheap. Why not just get Calyx?

Weak performance overall, just flat, very faint- the lily of the valley and musk here remind me more of artificial flower wrapped in cellophane, than a lush blooming lily of the valley around musky soil.

I love this scent on me. After about 30 minutes the fragrance is light and fresh with a clean, soap-scrubbed aura that lasts all day. I love the smell and the price point is perfect.
