Ἐαp 16 M° Currentzis Perm Opera Edition (Spring)

Ys-Uzac έαρ 16 is another brilliant composition from their Artist Edition line of fragrances. Théros was the first love from this collection, an utterly unique and complex perfume. This one is no exception. It does for me everything Théros does while offering a different journey. While the former feels warm to me (a passionate Summer), this one strikes me rather cold. Almost sad, grim, even gothic, I might say. Dedicated to Spring, it recalls the early days of it, maybe an Insular Spring in the morning, at the early start of it, right after the gloomy and cold Winter. I smell the cold rocks at the bottom of the cliff, the ocean splashing the stones, and the thick, foggy air penetrating my senses. Sadness. Should I take another step into the void? But then the moist and green smell of the grass and forest behind gives me strength and hope. For a better tomorrow, for a beautiful Spring ahead. I walk down the forest. I bend down and caress the moss. I go deeper into the woods. Silence now as the ocean is far behind. I stumble upon a druid temple built of stone. I light some myrrh and incense to meditate and clear my mind. The sweet, spicy, and resinous aroma imbues the air as I inhale the smoke deeply. Maybe there are better days ahead after all... Although it feels cold and sad, there is a dichotomy in the scent between the cold and warm elements. The myrrh, frankincense, and ambergris accords balance out the wet, ozonic, cold stones, and damp-green cannabis ones. I don't detect the rhubarb note on my skin whatsoever (thankfully). To my nose and off my skin, the most prominent are the cannabis, the myrrh, and the watery facets. The frankincense, the cold pebbles, and the ambergris come in second. The use of cannabis and myrrh is terrific. Aspects of both are showcased cleverly to fit in with the theme of the perfume. Talking about notes and accords doesn't do justice to this composition. Like almost all perfumes from this house, it means to instill a feeling, to evoke a certain atmosphere and mood, and not to present a generic structured perfume. In έαρ 16's case, it is a cold, foggy, and gloomy early Spring morning. Each perfume feels like a story unfolding to one's senses, and I have become enamored with Vincent Micotti's narratives. Ἐαp 16 M° is a very well balanced perfume -- no one of the main elements is more pronounced than the rest. The three most prominent notes are: -Ozonic water/rain -Rhubarb -Incency cannabis The incense/cannabis dimension is not what you'd expect, most likely. It's not what I expected, at least! I was expecting greater pungency, but instead it's blended into the background and more sweet. The iris combines with it and makes it a bit more floral. The rest of the notes float around in the background and between the lines, adding to the complexity. Overall, it is significantly more aquatic than I expected. The rhubarb is great, and much less polarizing than how it is in Ys Uzac's Lights & Shadows, where it takes more of a central role. The perfume is a quiet, seafoam with even a slight minty-ness to it. It is like a twilight spring, where during the day the water is green/blue with algae blooms, and a verdant spring bed extending around it into the shadows. It's less edgy and more round than I expected. However, there are some hidden spines within it inside the ozonic/oceanic aura that extends the furthest. It is an herbal tonic, moist yet smoky, balsamic but sweet. The amber glints in the background like a forest sunset in spring.

Rich and layered spicy-ish spring perfume that truly stands out. When I close my eyes and smell this, I’m transported to a rich lush forest at sunset on a spring day. Lots of pine, humid air, a hint of something floral but not sugary, It’s almost magic. I can get how some of the notes listed, come together to present what I’m smelling but truly it’s much more than the sum of their parts. I only have a sample of this but I’m leaning towards a full bottle. Super impressive stuff from Ys-Uzac.

Immediately smoky, sharp green, some of Mr. Micotti’s favorite rhubarb notes present. A very tomato leaf-like cannabis, very resinous and herbal, a bit reminiscent of the cannabis accord in Black Afgano. Though I must say as a not too infrequent consumer of cannabis myself, I don’t find it very attractive nor representative of my favorite aspects of the herb, which of course change from strain to strain but to me this most closely resembles general marijuana resin, which as fellow consumers will know is not the most romantic of substances. There are some elements of raw hashish as well however. To lovers of Black Afgano—I mean no offense—just consider all this a plus. Luckily the intensity begins to fade on skin after a bit. As the heart unfolds, the cold, Spring air heavy with moisture and ozone, intensifies. Stone benches gilded with moss and lichen dot pathways through an ornate, Victorian era garden, it’s flowers still yet to bud let alone bloom, a ghost of iris alone haunting the grounds. Smoky, medicinal-herbal effects still linger. Slight warmth from myrrh and ambergris hiding in the base. A fascinating blend. Sillage strong, longevity excellent. For those looking for novelty, YS-UZAC is a great house to explore. Bravo, good sir!

Depending on how close you get it smells like - rain on a highway - frozen burnt incense - salty rhubarb Most of the time it feels like the mix of three and gives a cold sea impression.
