Bois de Sauge

Four years have passed since the house Yves Rocher had released Cuir Vetiver, created by Sonia Constant, and the same perfumer was chosen once more for this new cologne Bois de Sauge. As many of you will know, Yves Rocher's perfumes are inspired by the most famous brands as regards the olfactory accords, however using organic ingredients of natural origin wherever possible. Besides, it is not a mystery that one of the preferred notes by Sonia Constant is the ambroxan. "It's a synthetic ingredient, and it excites me a lot: it's like a black-and-white photograph, very modern, and it has no date or age," and Bois de Sauge is a blaze of amber woody notes. One of the reasons I like spring so much is because it is the only time of year when nature's green scents take precedence. Just before the flowers bloom and the fruit and vegetables ripen, the world smells green for a while. And one of the perfume ingredients that captures the best for me is the clary sage. The note made of slightly spicy herbs is what my morning runs in the nature smell like. When a new perfume shows up with it, I am interested as I was with Yves Rocher Bois de Sauge. The sage is undoubtedly there, as in the Dove Men antiperspirant made with the essence of minerals and sage. The moment I spray Bois de Sauge on my skin, I get a blast of the citrus fruit peel, very reminiscent of bittersweet orange, blended with the aromatic clary sage and a hardy dose of amber wood directly from the base. The perfumer uses the sage to full effect at high concentration, making the fragrance more fluid, more watery, in a long-lasting freshness. There is a sharp green herbiness. I'm sure there's some citrus note in the opening even if not listed, it might also be the ordinary omnipresent bergamot, but that isn't the main focus here if there is one. Fresh, woody, and slightly herbal, alas, the brighter opening soon evaporates, leaving a more subdued but still delightful warm-weather scent. There is a soupçon of floral and earth too. If you are out like me walking in these mid days of spring, this is what I smell most mornings right when I start. The middle sees the rosy geranium rounded out by guaiac wood and a bit of the shrill and watery violet leaf. The fresh geranium leaf kicks in during the mid supporting the other main notes, without standing out or being that strong. The guaiac wood is more vibrant and gives more verticality to the fragrance. The dry down is more amber, with some patchouli facets. However, tonka and amberwood are what I get most, a woodier version of the ambroxan more velvety, and tonka adds the right sweetness. The clean woodiness of guaiac wood picks up on the sage, adding the woods to the mix. The final ingredient is patchouli, which amplifies that earthy undercurrent in the sage, still it's moderate and more modern, not the dirty patchouli of the '70s colognes. Albeit Sonia Constant created many jewels such as Ombré Leather by Tom Ford, Sport for Men by Burberry, 1881 Essentiel Cerruti, Éclat d'Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin, and Cuir Vétiver by Yves Rocher, all so different one another, I do think she took some inspiration from Givenchy Gentleman and YSL Y Eau de Parfum for putting together Bois de Sauge. It is another easy to wear scent mostly for daily wear, great as an office scent. If you want a spring or early fall perfume that captures the moment of rebirth Bois de Sauge shows that sage springs eternal. It is fresh and aromatic, and it stays clean all the time. Projection is quite good for the first 3 hours, also moderate sillage. Comfortable to wear and most appealing it is nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary, and surely YR and Sonia Constant did not reinvent the wheel. However, in the whole scheme of things, this can be considered a primary type of fragrance. I find it very versatile, fresh, and dewy, even herbal in some way.

Bois de Sauge Yves Rocher Got this for about 22Usd. Bought it because wanted to try another Sonia's creation. This a simple woody aromatic composition. You'll get the sage, the slightly spicy woodiness and kinda weak patchouli. Projectivity not there, sits closely on skin, need to overspray on repeated spot to get decent longevity of some hours. It's an Edt but I felt it performing like a cologne category. Good for short errants and runs, stays on skin softly after an hour or two but can still smell it lightly around 4-5 hours. Safe scent can overspray. Scent wise not close to any but perhaps smells kinda blue, with vibes from BDC and Sauvage or plrc hence the comparisons. Nothing impressive nothing bad about this.

Very good release with good longevity and can be compared to Dior Sauvage. I think I like this one even better as smells more natural and simple in positive way. Bottle has a beautiful color, which suits this fragrance. If you like Sauvage, you will probably like it as well.

Even though it doesn’t really last that much, I think this might be the PERFECT spring fragrance. It is a more woodier and masculine take on the Invictus DNA. Only if it lasted longer, it would’ve been awesome.

Like to keep it in my locker at work.I put it on again in the middle of the day and its longevity increases with a nice fresh start.

A nice masculine EDT, fresh, discreet and aromatic. But I much prefer the Bois de Gaïac et Genièvre EDT, unfortunately discontinued and replaced by Bois de Sauge (I guess!). I find Bois de Gaïac et Genièvre more invigorating and spicy, and holds up much better! The Bois de Sauge EDT is a bit flat to my nose and very generic, to the point where I can't remember what it smells like, or recognize it if someone is wearing it. I really like it, but it's not the scent I would choose for my man if I had several choices available to me. I find it perfect after a shower, accompanied by its shower gel, for a little cocooning evening at home, or with his loved ones! 7.5/10

This is actually a nice bright spring & summer scent. I'm sure there's some kind of citrus note in the opening but that isn't the main focus here, if there is one. Fresh, woody and slightly herbal, alas the brighter opening soon evaporates leaving a more subdued but still very pleasant warm weather scent. Definitely worth trying. Edit; reminds me of something or maybe a mixture of things I've smelled before including l'Eau par Kenzo pour Homme and perhaps Azzaro Chrome Aqua.

Probably the safest one in YR’s current assortment. Opens a bit citrusy although not listed, and the sage kicks in for the first 15-30 minutes, and sweet patchouli will stay for the remaining 2-3 hours. The smell itself is nothing new but I like it, it’s a crowd pleaser. Longevity is on the weaker side, (around 6 hours is actually okey but a skin scent the last 2.) I wouldn’t pay full price for it. Bottle looks nice and “foresty” with the wooden cap.

If you have van cleef and arbels in new york, you don't need this one it would be a redundant one. It has the same aromatic woody ambery theme, also from the same perfumer, there is nothing new or interesting here for me.

Just arrived today. I smells like a mix between Versace eros and invictus in my opinion. The longevity could have been better, definetly need to be oversprayed. A solid 8/10 on the smell, but 4/10 on the longevity.

Love this one. Woody masculine and not in your face fragrance. Summer cottage vibe. Little bit weak projection and longevity especially on skin but better on clothes.

its smells like ysl y edp because of sage and woods but its less sweeter. great for its price but weak sillage

I find it very nice and very masculine, but I wouldn't really recommend using it in social settings.

The perfume opens up with a very fresh smell which reminds me of citruses, pine and herbs. It generally smells to me like classy skin care products for men. After 10 minutes it gets calmer as wood and tobacco (a bit like ashtray, unfortunately) notes appear. After around half an hour, the dry-down begins, and it smells woody, earthy, a little sweet, a little smoky. The dry-down is quite faint. It smells nice, but it's weak. I'd say this fragrance can be classified as aromatic fougere. But this scent is very simple – not much is happening here, it won't surprise you. It's fresh, woody-herbal, masculine, but it's nothing special. It lasts on my skin for around two, maybe three hours. Projection is weak, after half an hour it becomes a skin scent. On a side note, it absolutely doesn't resemble Dior Sauvage.

This is the Yves Rocher version on synthetic Clare sage contemporary renditions. The 2 most popular ones around are possibly H24 from Hermes and Dove Sage (green line). While I have nothing against Dove- bright performance for a full steam engine, quite safe on long days at the office to avoid sweat body odour- the discussion heats up when you intends to profit from such a simplistic idea. So, while this could be a working class hero of third millennium- and nothing to blame about Yves Roches except the result is poor and cheap (the synth sage plus guaiac is terrible), I found the magic didn’t work for Hermes either. Which of course bring even more disillusionment about the uncertain work in contemporary perfumery.

a nice fresh and clean fragrance. The notes of Sage and Patchouli are really clear, however the weak projection. Great value for such a clean scent. It wasn't long lasting on my skin, just about 2-3 hours, then the scent phased out quickly. It also can be easily outweighed by other perfumes, especially when standing with a sweeter one. I will use this whenever being in a private space, because of its slight and relaxing scent. But if you want a fresh bottle that draw attention, Versace pour homme or Chanel allure homme sport will be better choices.

Got a sample. Initially slightly citrusy, and quite sweet. I don't get much guaiac wood as suggested by the notes, even though it's sweet. There's subtle patchouli underneath sage, that's almost all about it. Is this the trendy simplism nowadays? I don't quite understand it. The scent is strangely familar and apparently common (like many other perfumes I guess). The longevity on skin is appalling. It stops projecting after 30min and sits close to skin after 1h. I would recommend Comme une Evidence Homme instead of this.

I've been using Bois de Sauge for the last year in spring and summer. The fragrance itself is a little bland, otherwise good. The sillage drops really fast in the matter of a few hours. You really have to reapply it again if you want to keep the scent on you by the end of the day. It wears off in about 5-6 hours but after 2-3 hours no one but you will notice you are wearing perfume.

Not gonna lie, i really like the scent and the bottle but the atomizer, sillage and longevity is so shit man

I got YR's Bois de Sauge as a gift from my mom about 2 months ago, I sometimes wear it when I work out or go outside when it's sunny. It's a very fresh, spicy, woody and earthy scent in the opening, decent for the gym and on sunny days. But it's longevity, and projection are extremely weak for what it is, it's an Eau de Toilette (usually 5 to 10% concentration of fragrance), which means it's concentration should be moderate but it feels more like an Eau de Cologne (2 to 4% concetration) and check out Dior Sauvage EDT, Eros, Club de Nuit or other EDTs with good projection and/or longevity. It's dry down genuinely smells like smelly, dirty mud. I do not recommand. 35 to 50 euros isn't that expensive but for the price. You can get Dolce Gabanna Pour Homme, Nautica Voyage or Hawas Ice for about the same price or even cheaper and these performs and smells 10x better. If you have it and really wanna use it, let it macerate for a few weeks atleast, and overspray it if you want people to smell you.

This was the only Yves Rocher men's fragrance that I disliked. Honestly, for the fans of genre it is not a bad fragrance. However, it is wayyy too linear. Sage, dries down to woods (I do not get patchouli at all) and I do not get many of the compares. I agree that it smells close to invictus but less sweetness and lack of marine notes but BDC or Eros, this is not close AT ALL. Might remind some Y edp, but the only similarity is the sage note and that's it. I do not like the sage, so I disliked this as it is not supported by something deeper.

I've tried to spray it now and then just to see if my opinion has changed, but no...the citrus in the opening makes it unbearable... It's sour and offputting, just reminds me of catpiss. After 10min the worst stank fades and I get more acquatic and woody notes which is quite nice. But nothing new nor ecxiting about it. Would not pay full retail for this. The Hoggar and Cuir Vetiver from Yves is much better. Cuir vetiver is very good actually and is worth every penny.

Smelling very good but after you use onle 30 mins or less lasting because of this i will never buy

İt does not stay outside of the bottle at all. All the odors just go away. Disappointment.

Wonderful fragrance just got it today and still testing... Besides being from one of my favourite master perfumers, Sonia Constant, wich I could notice from first sniff as it resembles other of her creations such as Éclat D'Arpege by Lanvin, I find it very versatile, fresh and dewy, even herbal in some way. It's a spring/summer scent munch on the style of Acqua di Gio Essenza. Projection is quite good for the first 3 hours, also good sillage. Easy to wear and mostly appealing... For the price point it's one that you can't go wrong and be sure to smell nice

I wish this company would come up with a great barber shop fragrance, similar to CO Bigelow White Elixir 1585 which is hard to find for a fair price in Europe. They would sell millions of bottles. We need a good affordable barber shop fragrance that is available everywhere. I keep wondering into Yves Rocher stores with my hopes to find something cool, instead of this and the previous releases that are boring metrosexual disappointments.

Refreshing spring, pine and earthy nuances. An every day all day fragrance, nothing to see with any of the Dior nor Prada comparisons; This juice stands on its own.

This is the most underrated/ underappreciated fragrance OAT. Insanily good summer fragrance with a sexy blend of ingredients 9/10

I only know that I smell it smell as adg essenza.
