Cantate

This came as a BIG surprise to me: Yves Rocher has discontinued one of their best creations and threw all their energy on a dull series of mediocre scents like Flowerparty and the likes, why-I cannot fathom, especially because there's not so many clearly defined winter scents in their portfolio (besides the obvious one-dimentional Vanilla and Amber). Cantate is a strictly cold weather/season perfume with so much softness and cosyness in it, that it's the 1st thing I need to put on in the morning, when the temperature is persistently refusing to crawl over the zero mark. The scent is very intense, even as an EDT, must be used with caution, and the good news is - it stays forever, on clothes as well as on skin/hair, I can sniff it on me all day and feel incredibly cheered up by it. By no way this can be unisex: it's a distinct womanly scent with 4 prominent notes that sound (for me) through the day: Rose, Vanilla, Iris and Cedarwood: so spot on was the comment about the aroma of rum-soaked cigars lingering somewhere in there! The initial opening can be a punch in the chest, as this perfume is very full-bodied, but the drydown follows quickly, and it's heavenly. It prompts me to recall of my life-long dreams to own a historic mansion that would have a huge library sitting on the oakwood shelves, old rugs on the floor. time-beaten leather chairs, a fresh pot of steaming tea and a huuuuuge floor-to-ceiling window overlooking a snow-dressed garden ( needless to say, an xxL Xmas tree is also very much in the picture! :) ). The scent is rather for an age starting in late 20s and onwards: it's waaay to pompous for a 19 year old imho. The bottle itself is the only downside: it looks cheap. At a distance - perhaps OK, but at a close look it could be something from the children's toys department. The colour though is very well appropriate: the exact shade of red one would associate with this fragrance. Hunting for a pure perfume bottle ( I am a fan of concentrates ) and also considering swiping all the existing offers off the german ebay: can't bear the thought of it vanishing completely out of my perfumery treasure chest!!

Cantate used to be my favourite fragrance in my early twens. I must have used more than 20 bottles of all sizes, EdT, EdP, spray, dab-on... I also had lots of bottles of the shower gel and the body lotion. I used it all the time. Day, night, summer, winter, uni, meeting friends, working... I remember how I felt when I realized it was discontinued. Instead of chasing the last few bottles in the country, I searched for a different signature scent. Yes, I did find a scent that I truly loved but that one was discontinued as well so I was unlucky again. I still have a bottle of the 30ml dab-on EdP and I will hold on to it. I do not use it, I just smell it and remember how much I loved bathing in Cantate. If I had the money, I would buy the recipe and bring it back on the market for everyone to enjoy.

another beautiful sadly discontinued deep rich gourmandy rose. i'll be honest, i thought yves rocher was another cheap online cheap makeup/beauty site like avon/mary kay etc. it wasn't until the women in my family (aunt, cousin, grandma) opened up a pacakge in front of me a few years ago and i smelled yet another foolishly axed gem rose absolue that i changed my tune. cantante and rose absolue are both very similar to me. they are warm, womanly, full bodied sexy cinammon rose perfumes. i was actually able to acqiure my grandmas nearly full bottle of cantante with the exchange of my beauitful shalimar edp lol. my grams is generous but not silly! an absolute must try for true rose lovers.

I just bought a huge bottle ETD 75 ml Cantata and it is GREAT, incredibly strong and longlasting, the price is a joke, 6 pounds...I consider myself one LUCKY girl, thank you Action for the miniature present, who knew such a gem existed...happy happy,I am on a caramel cloud:))...la la la... For me this is a gourmand fragrance, fruity spicy, caramel is detectable mostly from middle till end, osmanthus cinammon and spice yeh, these are the notes exactly what it smells like, such a happy perfume this is, suits night and day when you want to feel on top of the world!!!

The compote was brewed from amber-iris oriental with the help of iso e super, so the sound of the perfume is fluffy, not heavy. There is a bright red sweetness here, because if the compote is sweet and spicy, then it is necessarily red, like a brothel lantern. Then marzipan tonka bean is added with other spices, and the result is dark lacquered furniture with chocolate drunken cherries.This perfume creates a very cozy sound, feminine and bright. I wish the flowers of that red azalea that I suddenly came across in the pine forest smelled like this.

I was gifted a small, old tin of the solid perfume about 10 years ago, and I still have half of it. I kept some of the product because I love just opening the tin and sniffing the perfume. If Yves Rocher brought this back into production, I would probably buy a lifetime supply because I don't think I have ever smelled anything as good as this in my life. It's a very warm, powdery oriental that makes me so very happy. It seems I was born a little too late to enjoy the wonderful Yves Rocher classics from the past few decades.

Wow. Dense, overdosed realistic cinnamon vanilla/rose. Layered and rich, the Parfum version is well worth seeking out. This is a secret weapon to bring more depth to modern compositions. I layer with JPG La Belle- spray La Belle as you normally would, but add one drop, or top with one spray of Cantate- and we’re talking Whole. Other. Level. Beautiful on its own, it takes just a minute to warm up. It feels like a luxury to wear, and what other reason is there to indulge in fragrance, but to elevate our senses?

Beautiful lightly spiced silky peachy rose with supporting florals on a woody base. More floral than sweet, as it’s a 90ies release, considerably less sweet than their later Rose Absolue which I adore, too. Vintage YR quality is unbeatable and this is no exception. No powerhouse, but absolutely not fleeting either. I own the Parfum version which is slightly more dense and jammy compared to the EDT of which I have a mini, but the easier-to-find EDT is still worth hunting down. The best is the Parfum, though.

What makes this perfume so interesting, is that it is a bit ahead it's time. It makes a combination of notes that is quite daring. There are gourmand notes (Caramel) in combination with Spices like Cinnamon and on top of that some traditional chocolate with the Tonkabean. And still the perfume is not a typical gourmand, it is masterpiece blend for the lovers of sweet, without being a standard gourmand! Action

I have had my bottle sitting around for a number of years, and sort of re-discovered it lately. I quite like it, although I don't get the florals much - mostly the cinnamon comes through for me. It is a fairly strong scent, so I like to use a light touch when using it. It is really a pity that Yves Rocher has discontinued it, along with so many other fabulous scents (like Shafali, Ispahan, Orchidee, etc.).

Oh, what a wonderfully warm and sweet fragrance! Luxurious and interesting - like the most of Yves Rocher fragrances. Over and over again I'm finding out that cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka and cinnamon are my favourite ingredients :-) Years ago I had only a miniature of this... I couldn't afford the big bottle :-( And I missed the time - Cantate is no longer available.

Gone but not forgotten! I had this tiny exquisite little red bottle on my shelf for ages; the scent is great for evenings when you cannot be bothered to re-apply; its character shifts continually from a creamy layer of jasmine and the vanilla comes up quite nicely on my skin. Yves Rocher were nuts to discontinue it!

What a perfume, what a perfume!! Today my vintage bodylotion of Cantate arrived! Oh I do love love love the vintage body lotions original!! It is better than making them myself, but they are so hard to get!! Took me AGES to find one bottle of lotion!

Notes Cantate: Alternative spelling ' Cantanta'. An edt with top notes of rose, jasmine and iris, heart notes of osmanthus, cinnamon and nectarine on base notes of cedar, sandalwood and caramel.

I loved that smell but on me it was too heavy and sweet. I was around 20 that time. But now, years later still remembering this unusual combination I think now I would be my favourite fragrance.

I had this back in the day. It was one of the best fragrances I have ever owned. I miss it so much! I had the balm version. It was sweet, spicy, and floral, and it lasted a long time on me.

It smell wonderful and soft and graceful it's like it cuddle you in a sophisticated aroma. If you have the chance to find one get it!

Cantate by Yves Rocher is a spicy little thing! Warmed by cinnamon and lightened by florals, Cantate manages to be rich but not overbearing unlike other cinnamon frags - looking at you, Obsession! You're beautiful but much too strong. Anyone who feels overwhelmed by rich fragrances should make friends with Cantate, which is beautifully spicy and still remains work safe. This is how Ispahan and Shafali - also spicy YR frags - behave as well. In fact there's a lot of similarity between the three perfumes, they are versions of the same theme. Although Cantate has a big opening it quickly dries down like many YR perfumes and becomes a skin scent. The fragrance gets even warmer and more cozy then, making it a perfect cold weather scent. C. is a womens fragrance but would also work well on men. There's nothing overwhelmingly feminine about the scent, in fact there's a slight note similar to sweet pipe tabacco. According to the notes in the introduction, Cantate was introduced in 1995, which makes it nearly 25 years old. A quarter century has not made this lovely scent dated, in a fancier bottle Cantate would easily pass as high end.

13.august 2012 Finally i got a chance to try this scent out of the mini for EDT. I know exactly the same scent which i have in my collection but not here in database: "Suite 16" by Pierre Cardin. It ́s from the 60 ́s and these two share that beautiful spicy-rosy-soapy note. Yes, i smell a lot of soap, but unlike many others i am not distracted by this soap here. Thanks to the rose and spices. The opening is very sharp and spicy, then quickly turns into soap and rose and the drydown is vanilla-spicy. Beautiful in one word, but i would definitly go for parfum extract or at least EDP, since the sillage and lasting power of EDT leave to desire better. Can be worn actually all year round. P.S. I think that the algehydes note is missing from the description, otherwise where that strong soapy note comes from?

I just received this in a 7.5 ml from Netherlands. Definitely an evening fragrance, I quite like the spicyness, though it is understated and warm. I'm finding like Katyas' review below that I love the old Rocher scents (Shafali, Ispahan, Orchidee, Nuit d'Orchidee) - pity if they are all discontinued. It appears all the Rocher scents I have purchased are all the discontinued ones, my good luck in getting them (and sadness) as I love them all. I like Rose Ispahan just a judge better than this one, but will most definitely wear it again - and disappointed to fall in love with all these lovely smells, only to find they are no longer made. Sigh. Should have shown more interest a few years ago I guess!

I sampled Cantate because of its similarities with L'heure Magique (which I love), and they are similar. I find Cantate a bit jucier in the opening notes and overall slightly spicier (perhaps from the cinnamon?). Also, geranium is missing here but the biggest difference is that Cantate doesn't have the musk note which I adore in L'heure Magique. It's very pleasant though. The projection is medium and so are the duration. I still prefer L'heure Magique, but Cantate is surprisingly beautiful too.

I remember I had this, or at least borrowed some from my mum's bottle. lol. I remember it as a warm and rich scent, and not too mature. More spicy than floral. Delicious. The lasting power was great as well.

Sweeter than YR's 8e Jour and I didn't like it quite as much, but still very nice and others seemed to like it. Matured well over the course of the day, so undressing after wearing it was pleasant.

It was perfume for Christmas, for celebrations. It gave suc aura of festivity! Very rich perfume for women of all age.

If it weren't for the strength of the soapy note I think I would love this. But soap overpowers the fragrance for me. Aldehydes aren't noted and no-one else has mentioned this as an issue. Perhaps it's just my skin?

My mother and I were great lovers of Yves Rocher perfumes back in the 90s. This was one we used on several occasions, both in its large bottle and in miniatures, I seem to remember that both in its EDT and EDP versions. When I saw a vintage 30 ml bottle of the sealed Parfum version on Vinted for only 10 euros, I couldn't resist buying it out of nostalgia. What I found, as it could not be otherwise, has been a delight, although for some reason, perhaps because it is the Parfum version, which we never used, it has not faithfully brought to mind the scent that I remembered. Cantate is an eminently floral perfume and, perhaps, a bit vintage. It comes out with a lot of rose worked in a way that highlights that facet that accompanies it with an scent similar to that of geranium and settles with a powdery touch of iris and something unlisted aromatic-green. Soon the spices appear, led by cinnamon, and, above all, the osmanthus. I'm surprised that this is one of the least voted notes because I notice it a lot. It's a note I'm very familiar with thanks to Amouage's Sunshine perfume and it gives the fragrance a peachy aspect. As time goes by, a woody background emerges and, after more hours, it even feels somehow mossy. It has a moderate projection and lasts on my skin for about 8-9 hours, then leaving a delicious scent on clothes that lasts for several days. I love having it again although I fear that our relationship will be brief because when I apply it I cannot help but do so generously, a circumstance that is aggravated because its bottle, as those of you who used these perfumes in its time will remember, does not have a spray and you have to apply it directly through the opening of the bottle or using the end of the cap as a dispenser to tap it on to the skin. Scent 7.5/10 Duration 8.5/10 Sillage 7/10 Quality/price -/10 Versatility 8/10 Packaging 8/10 Would I buy again? Yes

Cantate is such a gently rich rose-oriental. I'm so enjoying this moment right now. The other day I described Yves Rocher's Rose Ispahan as like Cantate, but overdosed with vanillic amber, ...and yes, that is somewhat true, ...but as I revisited Cantate itself, I realized I must return to pay more attention to its own singular charms. Smelling Cantate on its owns reminds me it is already a sweet and spicy mix of rose, cinnamon, orris, vanilla and tonka, ...the additional semi-gourmand syrup of Rose Ispahan seeming a tad excessive by comparison, ...though semi-gourmand devotees may well disagree. Another imperfect comparison can be made with Coco, With the more simple and refined Cantate seeming to lack some of Coco's extraneous notes (clove, civet), ...and quite possibly being the better for it. The other wonderful aspect of Ispahan is how it turns into a near-solilign (only wood) of warm sandalwood in the drydown. Sandalwood, like musk, is a note often found in perfume bases as only a forgettably anodyne nuance, ...but here, in Cantate, it overtakes rose as the lead for the final act. That sandalwood would make a fine light cologne all on its own. This morning's setting is soothingly sublime, with Cantate on one wrist and Teatro alla Scala on the other (I must wax rapturous on that as well, as soon as I finish here.). Such moments are what makes perfume appreciation so worthwhile, ...ah, it never ends, ...until it does.

Cantate is a beautiful beautiful rose perfume. It's not your candied rose, nor fruited rose, nor powdery rose. It's a spiced up woodsy rose. It opens up with a rose note right from the start. It smells like a Baroque Opera singer's cologne which she even goes as far as to spritz into her mouth thinking her singing voice would sound much better because of it. There's a jasmine in it and iris and it's more iris than it is jasmine. The rose and iris combination is always a winner. They go so well together. It's not powdery like other irises I've encountered in fragrances. This is turned into a cinnamon spice and it also has a distinct vanilla scent. The dry down is woodsy very woodsy with sandalwood and cedar. This is a rose chypre. Smells expensive and vintage something a little along the lines of Diva by Ungaro. Gorgeous elegant and sexy red rose scent. I love to wear this to the opera during opening night at the Metropolitan Opera. It's a night time perfume and she asks you to wear her with your best most formal evening clothes. Classy sophisticated rosy and woodsy perfume for anyone who loves roses. It projects very well has amazing sillage and leaves behind a lovely trail of scent everywhere one goes. It is also long lasting and I mean long lasting. I smell of this stuff 2 days after having spritzed it the first time. I love when that happens.

The boxed 30ml bottle I've got is CantatA, not CantatE, I can't find any info. anywhere on what difference, if any, there is. Looks like kosher Yves Rocher though, box and bottle. (EDIT: Yves Rocher got back to me - Cantata and Cantate are indeed the same, just slightly different names. Different names issued for different countries apparantly). I do get the 'booziness' at first application of this, which is pleasant however this fades very quickly. I don't get any cinnamon or Christmassy-ness or anything like that. I DO get that weird Irn Bru (Scottish fizzy drink/soda) smell that I get with the original Ghost. Cantata fades quickly into a vague flowery smell with maybe a tiny tint of ice-cream vanilla - all in all, that general Yves Rocher kind of smell that I remember from the 1980s/90s, melded with the Irn Bru which lasts throughout. This EDT seems quite weak and watery to me, although the box was opened from new (cellophaned I ?think as I received it in a swap) very recently. (EDIT: the smell actually lasts FOREVER on fabric! My dressing gown still smelled of it after being through the washing machine!) I find Cantata quite mediocre to my nose but if anyone's interested in this bottle I live in the UK (so can only post to the UK), PM me.

My mother and I were Yves Rocher addicts...going crazy with every flyer we received...I was the math wiz who figured out best way to use the discounts to get more for less...Luckily this was my favorite and I bought 2 bottles....then I dropped one and the cap and plastic tube broke off but the juice is still contained...I reordered another back up bringing me to a total of 3 bottles...I treasure them now....This scent is smooth and calming...never overpowering it drifts around you like a cloud drawing others in. The scent lasts well on my skin but clings best to clothes. The sandalwood anchors the warm spicy blend. The rose is not in your face...combined so well all you feel is comfort. Perfect for any time you want to smell good for yourself or for others! One of my top shelf favorites! Gorgeous simply gorgeous!

Gorgeous!!!!!! For sometime now I ve been looking for spicy, exotic rose based scents after falling in love with Sacre. This is a smooth, spicy gem, not gourmand, where the rose and spices dominate beautifully on a bed of tonka and sandalwood. Vanilla is not prominent, it rather lends its spicy aspect without overbearing it. This is such a well blended scent,seductive and classy, there is a timeless quality to it without making it dated yet very modern and wearable. A spicy, balsamic woody scent hugely aromatic that can be easing worn on any occasion, but memorable. Excellent sillage and longevity. Happy to own it.

My bottle looks like the one pictured above but is spelled 'Cantata' - is there a difference? I scored a half-full 1 oz. bottle on eBay and wow, am I hooked! Who knew roses and cinnamon play so well together? I grow over 200 antique varieties of rose in my garden, and no two smell precisely alike - there is a vast amount of difference, actually - yet they all smell like 'rose'. I can't wait for early this summer when they are all in bloom so I can walk around and discover which is closest to the rose component in Cantata... along with all the other rosy fumes in my collection. :-)

A tingeling feeling when just applied - something sweet and acidic - might be translated to booziness. It is warm, sweet, soft and intense at the same time. I wonder if the notes in the pyramid are right - maybe Action will know as she sems to be a specialist on Yves Rocher. To me this is fire and red is its color just as the color of its bottle. I can not say I find any of the individual notes in the notepyramid - eighter they are wrong or this perfume is so perfectly blended that you simply cant.

I cannot say much more than what arianperfume and Action said :-) It is a great spicy-gourmand fragrance. Works well with my skin and gives me a great cuddle when I feel down or when I wake up on a gloomy morning :-) A great choice whether you are going for a formal meeting or a shopping day with your girlfriends. Gentle, yet noticeable. Not overpowering but surely kissing your cheeks every time the wind wafts... :-)

I just smelled this again yesterday,I forgot I had it.I put it away,it wasn't a favorite then,boy do I like it now. I think because Im getting older my sense of fragranges is changing... What perfumes I didn't care for, I really like now.This smells so good..It reminds me of another scent which I really like Charlie Gold.Alot of the notes are similar...So if you like Charlie Gold,you would probably like this one.

I got a mini EDT and 30ml of pure parfum about 20 years ago, but with ''Cantata'' on both bottles, not Cantate. So, today I'm wearing EDT on my hair and it's a spicy rose, I like this scent. The parfum I gifted to my mother, then that fragrance to me was only for very mature women. So, now being already very mature, I wish I had that pure parfum of Cantata...

when I used this for the first few times I absolutely disliked it, it reminded me of the medicine I was taking as a child, but after some time I started to like it, on my skin it develops in to a different scene, quite longlasting and delicious, now I absolutely like it and wear it in cold snowy days.:)

MMMMM, I finaly found from ebay this amazing scent I used when I was young. And still this is as good as it was on those days. Good for winter time, warming and spicy vanilla kinda softness. Perfect and special. There is definitely not another scent what would remind of Cantate. Love, Love, Love

The first few moments smell a lot like LB Venezia.. boozy w cinnamon, more sheer though. It becomes pleasantly rosy, and a bit sweet like Tocade.. It's cheerful and much lighter than either of those scents. A bit mild for me, I prefer Venezia or Rose Ispahan.
