A Nice Surprise Like a Jewel in a Plain Encasement So, today I had the opportunity to test the new Yves Rocher La Collection Parfums, I immediately wanted to head for the one with leather and vanilla notes first and my intuition was confirmed: Cuir de Nuit Eau de Parfum is a surprising perfume and it has that interesting aspect I look for in a perfume. Cuir de Nuit is far from leathery, rather it is all too vanillic. The vanilla you get here is neither the gourmand one nor the bourbon one, not cloying, not cheeky, rather a flowery, woody and smoky vanilla. And the Cuir in the name is just a leather subtlety of this kind of vanilla, there are no leathery notes here. Delicious I would say. Among the other Eau de Parfum Collection's items, this is the most captivating and original one. All of the scents are bottled in a plain and minimal bottle, with transparent and thick glass and a heavy base, the juice of this cologne is a pale violet. This scent evokes me as much in the afternoons by the fireplace to enjoy a cake still hot with a cup of tea as in the elegant dark interiors where leather and raw wood would have a place of choice. It greats you with a blast of the grassy and sour accord, also has a slight boozy sweet feeling. There is something akin to terebinth, to some extent reminiscent of the smell of mango. In a while, the beauty of the wild pink pepper kicks in and gives off a pleasant, penetrating smell. In perfumery, its essence fragrance is sought after for its delicacy and is particularly enjoyed when it enhances floral harmony. Soft and sweet with a feminine characteristic, its welcoming aroma invites the nature enthusiast to share. And then appears the chocolate accord, the cocoa is represented here in its natural form and aroma, with all the nuttiness of the fermented cacao pods, here it is bitter, it is dark, it is pure, it is powder, ain't too praline or toffee or brownies as in Mugler Angel or Valentino Uomo, which I adore, but with a dusty feel and a bitterish edge, so if you are chocoholics like me, you will appreciate it. At last, it's all about vanilla, and any of the different facets vanilla can have. The vanilla here has a dark, somewhat dry, woody, and leathery feeling. Cacao makes the dryness more pronounced, and the coffee strengthens the dark feeling of the scent without smelling like strong coffee. In addition to the notes mentioned, I also smell something that reminds of lavender and cedarwood in here. I think the combination of Tahitian vanilla and cacao is the culprit, together they create a chocolate liqueur accord, to my nose anyway. It's a good fragrance, a very good one. Well made and long-lasting. I've had it on for about 8 hours now, and it's still quite prominent. But at the end of the day, it's just vanilla. I haven't smelled this type of vanilla fragrance before. It does say much to me, so it feels not redundant for me. This perfume is a nice surprise, like a jewel in a plain encasement. The vanilla here is incredibly well done, so elegant, powdery, even leathery! Also, accompanied by the right amount of cacao, pink pepper and just a hint of coffee, it stays creamy till the end. A perfect treat for the wintertime, and long-lasting too. In my opinion, it is a safe bet, a fragrance with character and timeless, and I see it well worn with a thick woolen fabric and a leather jacket a little rock, innocuous for wearing at the office. On the outfit side, nothing to complain about. I like the fact that it is not heady from the start but that it remains stable throughout the day with a tendency towards the vanilla-musk side at the end of the day. This perfume is a nice favorite, in the same collection I also really liked Sable Fauve but I reserve it for the next days!

Cuir is a really nice surprise, like a jewel in a plain setting. I'm saying this because I find that the package could have been more imaginative, more inspired for such a good fragrance. The vanilla here is incredibly well done - buttery, powdery, even leathery! Also, accompanied by the right amount of cacao, pink pepper and just a hint of coffee, it stays creamy till the end, with some dried fruit and woody facets to it. This powdery-sweet Oriental has an amazing longevity - after 12 hours the ever-soothing vanilla is still present on my skin. While wearing this, I imagine myself sitting in front of a fireplace in a cozy living room with a lovely fall landscape, holding a warm cup of cocoa and reading a book... A cozy mystery would go perfectly with this perfume (Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke is the first one that comes to mind).🙂 I also think Cuir is more on the feminine side. Not really unisex IMO. Note 1: This is not a leather fragrance, even though the name suggests that and the vanilla here has a slight leathery quality to it. So beware if you're not a vanilla fan. Note 2: This perfume turns purple in time, no matter the storage conditions. Perfumes in general change color with time, some sooner than others, depending on their ingredients; but, as I've noticed, this phenomenon doesn't necessarily affect their scent/performance.

I am a big fan of Orientals and vanillas, so I really like this so far. It reminds me a tiny bit of other Yves Rocher discontinued fragrances such as Neonatura Cocoon (without the patchouli) and my beloved Nature Millenaire, my signature scent for years. In this, I can only pick out the different notes in the very beginning because it is so smooth and well-mixed. Although "Cuir" is right in the title, it isn't listed in the notes on the Yves Rocher website or here and I personally find very little leather in this. After reading some other reviews, I've learned more about how the leather in Cuir de Nuit probably comes about by a reviewer down below and found that info fascinating - thank you latafan! On me, this is long-lasting and sillage is moderate. It can probably be unisex, although I find it leaning feminine due to its sweetness. I think this would also make a great layering fragrance. As another reviewer, emxlio, mentioned, it is reminiscent of the vanilla in Le Couvent Cologne of the Missions, which I believe is also discontinued.

Bought a 30 ml bottle, because I was so intrigued by this scent. I don't like ultrasweet, syrupy perfumes, like the designer houses seem to pop out on the regular basis these last years, so I was sooo glad that Cuir de Nuit does not fall in that cavity-inducing lot. The sweetness is there, but toned down. Cuir de Nuit is warm, alluring, inviting, and ladylike at the same time. Funny experiment: I sprayed it on my arm and then made myself a cup of coffee. I took a sniff from the cup (who doesn't love the scent of freshly brewed coffee?) and then immediately moved my nose to the spot I had sprayed Cuir de Nuit. The coffee smell enhanced the perfume and made it sparkle and come alive. Try it! I think it will be great in late autumn and in winter. The drydown is wonderful as well. To my nose, the drydown is almost clean smelling, but not in a laundry-type way, but as if I had washed my body with a luxurious shower lotion. Yves Rocher has some really great hidden gems.

I first sampled this fragrance through a traveling European box project, and I recently treated myself to a full bottle. It’s a lovely, warm, and cozy vanilla scent, with sweet cacao lightly dusted with nose-tingling pink pepper, which adds a lively twist to the composition and keeps it from becoming too heavy or one-dimensional. I can see the resemblance to Guerlain’s Spiritueuse Double Vanille and could easily mistake one for the other at a glance, even as I own both. Given its price, technical performance, and thoughtfully balanced composition, it’s an excellent choice for fans of gourmand and vanilla fragrances. I’m even considering a backup bottle, as I suspect it might become highly sought-after if it’s ever discontinued. Edit: Yes, it definitely has that Cacharel Amor Amor vibe upon the initial spray, which isn’t my favorite. Fortunately, it doesn’t linger too long.

Fresh and bitter dark chocolate mixed with warm vanilla Extraterrestrial longevity Kinda great sillage Opens warmer, with delicious vanilla. The vanilla + cacao creates this dark chocolate note, that is not the darkest so you still have this sweet softness accompanying it. On the test paper strip it stays warm and sweet. On my skin it becomes bitter, like dark chocolate. Yet the fragrance keeps its soft vanilla vibe giving this perfume an alluring aura. Stays on all day and I get random sniffs when I move or when the wind blows. It creates this cozy scent bubble that's just mesmerising yet casual, inviting yet mysterious, something like that. Could be worn all year round, could be worn as a casual date night scent, but the best season would be autumn I think, or early spring. Still nice for summer though.

that was my signature scent back in 2022-2024, just got another bottle of it for the fall ANNND to me this screams fall. when i spray this, it just makes me feel so warm and cozy, feels like drinking a hot latte with chocolate chip cookies on a rainy and cold fall day. the opening is a little bit spicy from the pink pepper note but after a minute it just becomes the most addictive, cozy and chic coffee & vanilla scent. to its price I think this is an absolute gem. the cacao gives the scent something that reminds me of a mocha, its not overpowering, the vanilla and coffee notes are more prominent here but cacao just gives that mix a gourmand aspect. if you are searching for an affordable, sweet but not sickeningly overpowering, good sillage and longevity for the price this is it. rating: 9/10

This fragrance does change over time as you are wearing it. Initial spray the vanilla is bright and there is little depth from the cacao or coffee. As it dries down over the next 2-3 hrs the scent slowly transforms and the coffee and cacao notes are present, and also deepens the vanilla scent. Definitely adds a nice richness to the vanilla that wasn't present at the beginning. The end results is very pretty, a velvet lactonic vanilla with a hint of coffee. I can't detect a distinct chocolate scent, but I think it helps with adding warmth overall. The last leg of the dry down is reminiscent of Kayali Vanilla 28, but without the floral notes in the background, which I think makes this a more appropriate day time fragrance. Definitely very happy with this purchase.

UGH MY FAVOURITE FRAGRANCE OF ALL TIME gorgeous vanilla, I don’t get any spice or chocolate,,,, and the smell on my skin reminds me of earl grey tea. I love tea. I loooooove this fragrance and it has the best lasting power on my skin compared to other yves rocher fragrances I’ve tried. A good 4 to 6 hour wear before I reapply. And I can get it for free if I spend a certain amount of money on my Yves rocher order, so it’s a great deal too. Totally recommend to people who like a subtly sweet vanilla. Not sure if it’s safe to blind buy though, cuz it has gone quite powdery and kind of clogging (??like sickeningly sweet and sticky??) on some people’s skin. Still, it’s my favourite fragrance of all time. Love receiving this as a gift on holidays and birthdays. Love

This might be the best sleep perfume ever if you like coffee scents. It instantly relaxes you and gives you a slight sweetness, a sense of security. I'm almost halfway through my bottle, and this is a perfume I'll be buying again and again. Plus, it's incredibly long-lasting. It stays on my t-shirts for days. It's perfect for fall and it'll make you feel happy, like a warm hug. It's a timeless scent, yet it evokes a female figure you've known and loved for years. You could also call it a mother's scent. It also has a serious side, and that's precisely the part that makes you feel safe.

It reminds me of Lalique Le Parfum. It is enticing and playful, but elegant as well. I think I can smell almond or maybe it's just the coffee and vanilla combo. I had the SA spray IT on the inside of my elbow today. Just one spray, but I can smell IT now, a couple of hours later. I just might buy a small bottle and see how we get along. I think that in autumn IT might be really comfy and cozy. Later edit: sprayed CdN on one wrist and a bit of Lalique Le Parfum on the other. Both have very good longevity. After a few hours, to my jose they are 90-95 % similar.

I halfheartedly tested it because I have all the leather perfumes I need but this was absolutely enchanting. There is no leather but I'm not disappointed: the coffee-vanilla-spice combination are divine and instantly made me happy. It's well balanced, no note is predominant although each can be distinguished as the perfume evolves. First you are hit with the coffee and aromatic and floral pink pepper, in half an hour or so the vanilla and the cacao start to protrude more. This is the best discovery of 2020 for me. Great for Christmas Time. :)

Great value for money, decently lasting on skin and clothes and definitely a scent for women. I see some people recommending it for men or as a unisex perfume, but I would hate to smell this on a man. I love the vanilla and cocoa notes! It's a super affordable perfume fit for day wear. I'd say it's most suited for autumn as it has some of autumn's warmth in it. I wear it whenever I want a simple vanilla fragrance that's not very sophisticated but still sweet and warm. Whenever I wear it I feel like I could give the best hugs to everyone! :)

Last year a lady wore this by the bus stop and I had to ask her what it was. Needless to say I ran to YR and chased it down. The most accurate thing I can say is that this smells like a gorgeous woman. It's dark feminine but warm. Like a warm, dry, safe hug that's about to crush you and you love every second of it. The carnivorous bunny rabbit. Vanilla, spice and everything nice. Just like the other reviews say - there's no leather here but it does not bother me. Bottle has a more elegant design than the presentation picture.

This perfume smells just like powder and fresh sheets to me which i loveee so much. I cannot smell vanilla or cacao or any floral scent. My friend said that the powdery smell reminds her Victorian-era papers?? Reminds me the old wardrobe of my aunt because she puts powdery wardrobe scent in it, feels clean and soft. I saw this perfume from my cousin and although she sprayed a little, I could smell it all day, and it just had a strong powdery scent. I did not understood the hate in the comments it is just powder....:(

My second bottle of Cuir was made in 2020, and it's still one of my favorite fragrances for cold weather. It performs wonderfully on my skin, with eternal longevity and moderate sillage. I gather from the recent reviews here that it's been watered down and put into a different bottle. I haven't tested the new version yet, since there's no YR store around where I live, but if I ever happen to find it, I'll give it a proper try. Given its hefty price tag, I won't repurchase if it doesn't perform like the old version.

Wow.. Bought this after reading peoples reviews here, I was looking for a vanilla scent without being the typical cheap vanilla icecream type of scent. This scent is divine, but I am very suprised that it is SO masculine. I don't find this to be female nor unisex, but 100% male - maybe it's just the way the scent mixes on my skin, but I get a very sexy and masculine male vibe from this. It reminds me of 1 million from Paco rabanne, without them being simmilar at all but still having that masculine leather vibe.

This is an interesting vanilla scent. I'm not sure where the "cuir" comes in. This is a powdery vanilla skin scent that is powdery with a slight musk. I like it. It's an interesting take on vanilla; It is not sweet in the traditional sense like Pink Sugar or other really sugary sweet vanilla's. This one is dry and well put together. If you don't like sweet vanilla scents, this may be up your alley. I can barely pick up on the coffee, but it's there. The pink pepper is also present, along with the cacao.

Yum yum yum yum. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. An honest to god chocolate and vanilla scent, with a gentle edge from the pepper and leather(ish) background, and absolutely fantastic projection. Beautifully balanced and unique enough to stand out from the unremarkable gourmands that have been so in vogue lately. Probably better suited for winter, but I feel it would also be sexy for a summer date night, sweet and kinda sticky like melted ice cream on your skin. 😳

This is not the ultra sweet gourmand vanilla in most perfumes, it's the same vanilla in Lalique Le Parfum or Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille. Sophisticated and lovely. The instant I sprayed this on paper I thought it smelled familiar, but not in a bad way. It's lighter and not as concentrated as the Lalique. I adore that perfume for it’s ability to comfort and calm my mood. Cuir does not really fit the name because I get no leather in this. It is nice for casual days.
