Iris Noir

I don't feel this fragrance as particularly "Noir". I am puzzled that some of the reviewers associate it to gothic, dark, scary things. Seems as many humans are very suggestable to perfume names and the color of the liquid itself... I find it a very soft, polite and somehow not-so-grown-up Iris scent (compared to Chanel no 19, Equistrius, Bois d'Iris from TDC or even Inf. D'Iris Prada) For me, it is comfort and "politically correct" scent, for the days I don't feel able to wear any of the bold, statement-making perfumes I own, or when I can't decide between chypres-florals-gourmands-woodsy-powdery-ambery-musky. When I meet at the office or in town people whose tastes I don't know and It is risky to schock them. Good in not-so-cold fall days. It is the "rescue exit" when I am undecided and in a hurry, together with Calvin Klein's Truth, Gucci Flora, as a few of the Aqua allegorias' are in the Summer, Max Mara EDP for cooler days and Bois Vanille from Lutens in the winter. Nice, cozy, harmless.

Iris Noir opens beautifully with a luminous soft, peppery, violet aura--a little metallic and bitter courtesy of coriander, which I think adds some really wonderful interest to an already intriguing floral note in the world of perfume. As Iris Noir develops, a translucent sweetness rises to the surface, like a slightly tart blackberry scent as lafefe notes below. I dare say that I also detect a nuance of rose. Tonka is fairly subtle and adds a little hay-like earthiness, complimenting the perfectly pitched patchouli which gives the base a little woody texture. Styrax (benzoin) adds to the warm, but glassy sweetness in the base with its vanilla-like character. Overall, a unique, crytalline presentation of enigmatic iris. I think the transparency of this perfume makes it suitable in all weather, although for the warmer months, perhaps just in the evening; in the crisp, winter months, I think it will truly shimmer with brilliance.

The first time almost a year ago, when I tested this one on my wrist I just detested it. But after reading reviews here I decided to give it another try...so I ordered a miniature of Iris Noir...I gave it some time,when the scent developed on my skin, after the drydown I kind of liked it, so I am now sampling this for the third day and I must say that I really like it. It reminds me of a vintage fragrance. I find it a quite mature scent, its dark but velvety more for cold days.But still in this range I like Voile Ambre, Tendre Jasmin and Rose Absolue the most. It indeed reminded me a bit of Ck Euphoria. The patchouli and tonka bean combination is very nice...I realised that I like most scents which have tonka bean in the base. This smell is worth a try, just give it some time...it smell definately expensive! Thanks to Fragrantica and its members I learned to judge fragrances in a better way. A big Thank You!!!

This is a very light iris fragrance - not really sure why it's got Noir in the title. It is an easy iris for those who can't wear the strong, powerful iris perfumes e.g. Iris Silver Mist and the ilk (and obviously not in the same league as these). It is not however as sweet as Silver Iris from Atelier. Iris Noir does contain the sweet, lighter version of patchouli in here as well and with the tonka bean creates a sort of syrupy fragrance but in quite a transparent manner. I think it's an OK everyday perfume, one of those scents to wear when you're not sure what to put on. Would recommend this as an office scent as well. The good thing about Yves Rocher - let's face it, is the perfumes are pretty cheap and I actually got this one for free from them. They are pretty good with their freebies and discounts. The best one I've tried from their range though is Voile d'Ambre. That is a great, cuddly, warm amber.

I wrote here earlier, after 8th jour, this was my fav perfume for many years, and, of cause it had to be discontinued as well, it always happens to my beloved perfumes, I was thinking this beauty was going to stay here as for ever, I don't really know if I'm luckier than my twin sister, she says; when I want to buy another product, it's not that the shop isn't there any longer - the whole house is gone.... So, I went searching high and low for a replacement for my "baby", I bought many "look-alike" perfumes, and in the bin they went, but, than I came across Blanc of Courreges, and, there it was!!!! I have been pushing all the buttons to you "this perfume reminds me of...", still it's a "no"???, and also I would say that Autour de Minuit (got it) is a good plaster for Iris Noir. Or/and, proably I should try to mix Autour with Blanc??

I find this to be a very classy, beautiful perfume. More "mature," (or old fashioned, I suppose) the younger set might have trouble appreciating it. Goes on just slightly bitter, but quickly becomes a balanced, powdery iris - gorgeous, really. Just slight sharp woody & green. After about 30 minutes, the patchouli comes out firmly, but (to me) does not completely overpower the florals, although it isn't subtle. I guess that's where the "Noir" comes in, it's really on the lighter (not much punch), dry side. Okay for day, but "dressy" enough for a summer night out. Lasts pretty well on me, about half the day without needing a freshener. By the end of wear, gets sweeter & MUCH more powdery, but I still smell iris. You can get a full bottle of this as cheap as $30 during the many Yves Rocher promotions, and it is WELL worth the price!

This is an old school masterpiece. Classicaly arranged and well balanced, a good example of harmonic ingredients: nothing too much,nothing to little. Surprisingly enough, I am satisfied with the lasting power too. I did't expect it, especially because it is nowhere near black orchid or womanity BUT it's enough. After Guerlain's Shalimar interpretation of Iris perfume, I thought that noone can throne the Iris as majestic as Shalimar does...and I still think so, hahahaha! Still Iris noir shows a kind face of the Iris, a humble and pleasant sweet Iris. It is not noir in my oppinion, as it's not dark enough, and I would wear this all year round on any occasion, casual or not. An overall classic balmy hugging scent and a steal for the price. I definitelly reccomend it!

I also find this is a very gothic fragrance, full of that mysterious dark feel I miss so much in Jesús del Pozo’s Halloween. It smells decadent in a strangely alluring way. What I detect the most in Iris Noir is a powdery-metallic violet note. It surprises me that violet is not listed among its notes, as I notice it much more than the smell of iris, present as one of the heart notes according to the YR site. Iris Noir can be as light, vibrant and icy cold as it is a warm, slightly spicy floriental. So depending on which of these qualities you prefer to highlight, you can wear it in summer or in cooler weather. But it definitely smells classy whenever you wear it, that’s for sure.

S'wonderful! S'marvelous! Musky with that special organic muskiness of ambrette, a kind of vegetal muskiness, like a garden, this narcotic fragrance is rich in musky ambrette, iris, tonka bean and patchouli. Warm, earthy, powdery from the iris. Very much like iris in situ, earthy, furtive and reticent, with a closely guarded scent that drives bees and some humans wild. But, do not fool yourselves! However lovely I feel that I smell wearing Iris Noir,I have resigned myself to the realization that this one may be reminiscent of the past: vintage, powdery, loamy. Truly iris, truly noir, this is a patchouli rich spring floral with good projection and silage.

Belle présentation qui correspond bien au produit et à son nom, un peu "vénéneux": une potion magique violette. Le prix est correct pour la qualité du parfum. J'aime cette fragrance originale: fleuri, boisé et vert, poivré, fond patchouli, trèèès sensuel et mystérieux. Je pense qu'il s'adresse plus aux femmes qu'aux jeunes filles. Il a une très bonne tenue, il est bien présent, enveloppant et signe votre passage, timides s'abstenir. A noter qu'il ne laisse pas indifférent : plait ou rebute sans milieu. Un parfum de caractère, moins consensuel que les autres Yves Rocher, que j'apprécie beaucoup. Il semblerait qu'il soit discontinué, c'est dommage.

I'm not sure about this perfume. Some moments I find it really sweet and feminine, but there are moments I feel like it's almost masculine and a bit harsh. Maybe that's the noir side to this scent? This is a perfume I really have to be in the mood for to wear it and I couldn't wear it daily. I'm not even sure it fits me. On the right person this would be a very elegant and mysterious perfume. Wouldn't call it sexy, though. Edit: I've got this perfume a while now, and I've really grown to love it. Right now I could wear it daily, but unfortunately I've got a small bottle and the perfume is discontinued in my country. :(

Rediscovered this beautiful gem just in time for autumn. So glad I managed to buy a bottle for next to nothing 2 years ago. The prices on eBay are crazy! Like everyone else I'm sad it's been discontinued. I'd love to try the other YVES Rocher fragrances unfortunately they're not available in Australia. This is cold and unique, yet sweet on me and lasts for ages. Conjures up images of luxe goth blue velvet. A beautifully dark melancholic fragrance with a hint of sweetness, divine powdery feel is perfect to fall asleep to. Definitely like no other and suits my style perfectly. Bonus points for using natural ingredients.

I haven't reviewed this perfume yet because it's somewhat indescribable and because it's discontinued. I went to some trouble to acquire a bottle from another continent after I smelled the mini that I snagged from ebay. Many thanks to my perfume friend in Luxembourg--I will be forever grateful to you Liz. <3 Iris and patchouli? I have an abundance of perfumes that feature those notes, but this one stands alone. I can't believe the beauty contained in this scent. It's sweet, full, and rich, but not cloying. I think perfection was achieved here, and my bottle will be treasured and savored.

strong fresh spicy deep powdery perfume that's hard to incounter everywhere, simply because it's a sort of unconventional "overpowering" and "dark" and "sirupy" scent. The word "elixir" describes well the perfume because there is something misterious and intimidating about it. this gem I would recomend to people who don't wear a perfume because it's "in fashion", or because "it smells young" or "fresh".This is something for people who love to wear "good" perfumes regardless the brand they are. Unfortunately it has been discontinued (wish they'll bring it back).

expressive, but not for everyone! It was lying unused in my mother's bathroom, so she allowed me to take it. Apparently he is gone in our offer. I use it recently and really like it, is heavy, clear, mysterious. This is not a smell that pleases everyone. The opinions of people around me are divided, for some interesting and beautiful, and for some, having something irritating. Impresses me the fact that, although the smell is floral, it does have such a dark, "night" note. Gently intoxicating. Perfectly with the elegant feminine outfit.

After multiple years of consideration i decided i wanted to go full bottle. I have a miniature of Iris Noir but i never commited because i was never sure I'd actually wear it. However, it is one of the most beautiful iris fragrances out there in my humble opinion so i decided to just get the thing since i could find it for a friendly price. It's a classy, perfumey, powdery iris in the softest way. Where guerlain's insolence is bright, playfull and sweet. Iris Noir is haunting, sheer and slightly bitter. I much preffer this one.

One of my favorite YR scents. It is on the darker side, but not overwhelming. Because of its oriental style, it is more of an evening scent than for daywear - although I do not think that it would offend anyone during the day. I was not aware of its discontinuation, and I am unpleasantly surprised: it has been on the market for only a couple of years! I wish I had bought a bigger bottle...

First may I just say that I love Yves Rocher products! I bought the Yves Rocher Iris Noir and Voile d'Amber in the travel size mini bottle to try them and love them both! Iris Noir is earthy and dries down to a smoky, warm scent that lingers nicely. I plan to buy a large spray bottle of this soon. It is a very French fragrance.

Extremely feminine, dark and mysterious fragrance.I can smell the patchouli, tonka bean and dark iris. This is suitable for night time, fall and winter. Smells a lot more expensive than it really is.Somehow it reminds me of Guerlains Shalimar, but without the citrus note.Lovely masterpiece.

Absolutely the best frangrance I've ever encountered! Brings the frangrance of the interwar or the Belle Epoque periods. It's unbelievable how you can get in touch with how the people of those days felt and thought just by enjoying this perfume. A great achievement for Yves Rocher!

I just love this scent - it is dark yet smooth, intense without being overpowering. It lasts a good long time on my skin - at least 5 or 6 hours - and despite the fact that generally I detest the smell of coriander, it blends in perfectly with the rest of the scent.

May I just say...I chose this scent for today and it never fails to make me feel sexy and confident! One of my favorites for life! Just a stunning, balanced fragrance with great longevity and sillage. Perfect for day or night!

if only it lasted; an iris that competes with Le Dix and Metallica; goes on a sharp, sweet iris floral then dries down with a nice vanilla/amber composition but fades so quickly; love the spiciness and patch

It's classy and elegant.It's sweet but not sugary, powdery and dark Iris,mystery scent.It's very good smell, I love it. Long lasting is more than 6 hours.So fantastic scent on my skin.Good job YVES ROCHER.

Not feminine at all. :-) Starting with slightly metallic citruses, it goes with orris root, patchouli and coumarin. Why they stopped? IDK. One of most fabulous fragrances ever. And the color... <3

So, so sad it's discontinued. Didn't find anything to replace it. Not buying scents from YR anymore. Whatever I try seams too sugary or watered down. Lost the interest☹.

My advice: don't blind buy, as I did :( , Blanc de Courreges hopping it'll be similar to Iris Noir. To my nose they're like day and night.

I've been wearing this fragrance for several days now trying to make my mind up about it. Iris Noir is unlike any other scent that I've tried. There is something extremely compelling about it. It has a dark earthy muskiness about it. Like a number of other reviewers, I get a strong impression of blackberries, which I like. Certainly there are more notes involved than what are listed here as this seems to be a fairly complex composition. Iris Noir is definitely fruity, spicy, earthy, warm and dark with an alluring but not overwhelming sweetness. I love the combination of Patchouli, Bergamot & Iris. I sense absolutely nothing powdery here, I'd say it's more syrupy or boozy. Practically speaking, I can't see this as being an everyday scent, but it would be nice to have a larger bottle in my rotation. The only disappointment in my bottle of EDP is the sillage. After about 2 hours this becomes a skin scent on me. That's probably a good thing as a friend told me they did not like the scent on me. That friend is not in the habit of making such comments. However, I enjoy the intrigue and comfort of the fragrance, so it's a nice one to wear at home. Also,I have noticed that Iris Noir seems to come alive in the outdoors. It's been raining and windy for 2 days here and the fragrance seems to respond well to those conditions. The fragrance does linger a long time, 10 hours or more. If I can find a good buy on Iris Noir, I will probably add it to my collection! I believe that this fragrance is discontinued as I couldn't find it on the Yves Rocher website. There is a fair amount of it for sale on Ebay and Amazon.

It was a dark and stormy night when I stood in front of a cold castle with the gates decorated in Gothic ornaments of iris flowers intertwined with metal spikes and thistles. To walk in or not to walk in...This was the question. I took the plunge and when I walked inside, the castle turned out to be quite a nice place, a bit Gothic but comforting, elegant and in its own way charming. Iris Noir is like that - at first it is cold, dark and overpowering but the harsh opening hides a lovely scent inside. So this is definitely a patchouli bomb at first. My hubby cannot stand the opening. I have to let it to settle for 10 min at least before he will let me anywhere near him. I love patchouli so I kind of dig this razor-sharp dark personality of Iris Noir but this is an acquired taste and not for everyone. The coriander also adds to its earthy darkness. When the scent settles in, it becomes quite beautiful and well-balanced. There is a seductive vibe from the patchouli which I find quite sensual intertwined with cool and regal iris. The heart notes are woody spicy with very smooth and sophisticated iris. It is a bit powdery but in a very luxurious way. The scent has a decent longevity and a medium sillage. My advice – try before you buy. I personally find it quite sexy, but my hubby disagrees. I think for the price it is very well-made scent that has a unique personality. I also love the fact that it does not smell synthetic and generic like many modern scents from this price range. Overall score 7/10.

I am genuinely surprised at how good Yves Rocher IRIS NOIR is. This complex, modern chypre floral lies somewhere on the iris perfume line between Hermes HIRIS and Prada INFUSION D'IRIS, being less feminine than the latter and more feminine than the former. The carroty earthiness I love in HIRIS is present here, too, but toned down quite a bit. At the same time, there is enough iris to make this seem a floral cousin to the Prada offering, albeit a much less powdery and considerably darker one. Perhaps what is really the secret to this composition's success is the ambrette alluded to by Marianne. Whatever the case, this mélange is a delight to my nose! IRIS NOIR has great longevity and smells better and better as it develops and warms up on the skin. I like this perfume very much and am definitely going to look into acquiring a full bottle. On a final, mundane note, I'd like to point out to the smart shoppers out there that the regular price per milliliter of this creation is actually higher than either HIRIS or INFUSION D'IRIS. But YR has ridiculous sales and offers going on all of the time, so I'll take advantage of one of those...

It's a very unique, very distinct scent. The opening notes are surprisingly tangy and violet clearly stands out. It's a freshly cut violet very beautiful, very wild. And then, of course the iris, which rounds this flowery heart. There's no sweetness at all, the base is clearly woody so it has deepness but it manages to retain an "airy" feeling. Powdery? I don't think so, that's why I can see no similarity with Kenzo Flower. However, I agree with Malegria when she says that it's similar to Chopard's Wish; if you could remove from Wish the plum, the vanilla, the caramel and all the gourmand fireworks what you would have left is the clean light of Iris noir. It's an eau de parfum so the lasting power is very good, both on clothes and on my skin in my case. If you like layering, the diferent scents in the Secrets d'Essences collection mix very well together and you can successfully play with the body lotions and the perfumes of this range. I've finished my first bottle and I've worn it mainly at work, as long as you don't spray too much it'll be fine.

Iris noir starts with bergamot, which trails along into the heart notes. Although IN starts quite strong it gets to a level of skin scent after a while. After 5 hours I can still smell the iris with some sweet notes, but only when I put my nose on my arm - I wish it was stronger. Patchouli had been out briefly in between, but had to return into its room. In the end I can get a bit of the tonka bean, but only so slightly. I think it is definitely a nice perfume, but would deserve more sillage and longevity. Can be worn daily and in the office without offending anyone. It is not a fragrance I would wear for going out, for that IN is too shy. Perhaps IN will develop differently in a different season or under different circumstances, on verra.

I am loving Iris Noir tonight . The rich patch, spices ( I too smell coriander , clove and a peppery scent) warm up the senses with rich tonka bean accents. I would imagine violets, plums,amber and vanilla orchids but I get very little of the starker Iris note I recognize in Yvatis Iris. It is smoother, superbly balanced and I am amazed at it's longevity. Yves Rocher has come a long way! I recognize the similarity between this one and Imari Seduction only imagine I.S. as a grape tinged version which unfortunately does not last long on me. Props to Y.R. for this one, Neonatura, So Elexir, and Voile d'Ambre. They are excellent in my opinion and my collection would seem bare without them. They also layer beautifully...

I tested it yesterday without knowing the right composition, it's been a funny exercise but... What I smelt was: Top notes: pepper and citrus Heart: rose, blackberry Base note: iris and tonka. Now that I see the list I understand how my nose was distant from the real olfactory pyramid but I'm pretty sure there are blackberries and roses in Iris Noir. To me it's fresh and fruity, spiced in the opening and very light. It's a luminous iris, although the name suggests "noir". It disappears completely after a few hours, it's the perfect fragrance for a day out in springtime, it makes me feel like walking across a meadow watching the first trees to come into blossom.

I wore it to bed yesterday...It is quite something! Can`t say it`s a very original one or it will stay with us through generations, but definitely a nice one.The fresh opening of coriander greens and bergamot (carrot seed gives it a little seriousness) gradually changes...I like this part - it lingers before it turns into patchouli and tonka bean veil, with a powdery finish.The heart, the iris is the iris of art nuveau - exotic, spicy, Tiffany-glass iris!Fully developed, it made me think of Wish - of course,it is not that sweet, but you can easily trace their similarities.

When I'm in the right mood (which I am now) this beautiful fragrance just gives me everything. Feels like falling in slow motion into night blue velvet pillows. Like having a threesome with a glowing black royal Iris from some distant fairy land and a smooth earthy dark patch that tames her and keeps you safe from being abducted by her magic. This EDP is so strong and super long lasting. I'm happy I have two full size bottles of this heavenly potion. Since they don't make them like this anymore. Literally.

I received a sample of this and decided to wear it today. Right after I applied it I had an instant compliment on how wonderful I smelled. This perfume is quite nice. The fragrance has a dark edge to it. There is something haunting and mysterious about it. I find it to be fresh, smooth and well blended as well. So far, this and So Elixir Purple are my favorite scents from Yves Rocher. To my nose, it also smells very unisex. In my opinion, a man can pull this off with no problem. Definitely worth a try!

I also got this as a freebie from Yves Rocher when I ordered more of their Voile de Ambre perfume that I love (cant find that one on here btw). Didn't love it at first but it grew on me a bit. Still wouldn't say it's a favorite scent but it's not bad for the days I want to change up my perfume and have something light and lingering. I would say this is more of an "evening", date-night/night out type scent though

I finally tried it. I was surprised how strong and really gourmet Iris Noir is. It's really beautiful but not suitable for younger women who usually prefer lighter scents. But I appreciate that there is such an uncommon scent in Yves Rocher and that I had the opportunity to try how iris really smells like. Longevity is great, sillage very good.

I quite like this one, even though it's nothing i normally would wear. I get A LOTTTTT of spices in this, and patchouli. I don't know what real iris smells like, but i can't find any florals here. Sillage and longevity both great.

My first impression the Bergamot is good the Frankincense is a another goodie i don't detect the Carrot seeds the patchouli very light this smells similar to Kenzo Flower but less powderly. a sweet tangy scent very sultry.

i saw this again in the y rocher brochures-i will order another bottle of this.my bff has been wearing this lately and i keep smelling her around.feeling v nostalgic.just love this one.

this is a pretty iris with some woodiness. it reminds me of a less licorice-y Lolita lempicka in a way. this is a lovely scent and I'm so glad I finally got try it.
