Ming Shu

The original Ming Shu - what an unforgettable invigorating fragrance!! I had initially a bottle of 15 ml, which didn't last very long of course. Then I was only able to find the milder Ming Shu Fleur Rare in a larger bottle, but I didn't like it as much as the original icy-aquatic Ming Shu. What a pity Yves Rocher stopped producing this wonderful scent! This used to be so dazzling..

Oh, one of my first perfumes. I got it when I was 8. I loved splashing it on my wrists. The scent was fresh and innocent, but it made me feel like a grown woman. I remember the water lily and the lotus notes being strong, with a clear aquatic vibe. Sad that they don't make it anymore, it would definitely suit a young person.

used to love it so much, sadly the small miniature I bought has turned. Not everything can last forever, it will however stay in my memory as the first lotus scent I've encountered. Price back in the days was very reasonable for what you got. Fresh and ozonic almost.

Aquatic's not the right way to describe it. It is really floral, but I think that the blue colour makes them think of water :)

I do understand why people compare Ming Shu to L’Eau d’ Issey because they share the same vibe buut at the same time thwy are completely different. Imo Ming Shu is not a dupe but rather stands on its own right. Clean aquatic floral. The first smell that hits you is lotos and water lily, so strong that it is almost overpowering when you first stray it. Afterwards it turns into an aquatic smell but it is very close to skin. Longevity is around 4 hours after you spray it but then is gone. However if you apply it on clothes it lingers a bit longer. I am glad I managed to finish my bottle to make room for other fragances I like better.

I bought this when it first came out and wore it semi-regularly. I remember the ads Yves Rocher had for it in their brochures: they made a big deal about the obscure exotic water flowers that were used in this fragrance. Their marketing tactic obviously worked with me. It's a nice fragrance, averagely pretty and similar to about 100 others of this floral aquatic type. Very light, doesn't hang around long especially on my skin. On the other hand, light enough that it will not overpower the senses of others around you. Simple and enjoyable perfume.

I have less than a quarter of bottle and I'm so sad I learned today it's discotinued...particularly to me, this fragance smells clean like talcum powder or baby wipes, not in a bad way, it's pure and oceanic and what stands for me is the lotus flower which I love. I've had the same bottle for3 years and I used to spray 5 or 6 times since I have more perfumes to wear (this is way it has lasted for so long) till today that I'm only going to wear it for special occasions. :-(

Fresh without being soapy/aquatic. It's (a tad) peachy and floral. A really pleasant fragrance. This is one of the few fresh fragrances I actually like. I haven't come across anyone who doesn't like it. Ming Shu seems to please everyone. I tend to wear this at family gatherings since I don't think it will give someone a headache or make someone neauseous. lol. I wish the lasting power could've been better though. It only lasts 3-4 hours on my skin.

Ming Shu is a lovely floral-aquatic scent that I used to wear in winter. The perfume smells mainly like water lilies, lotus, water and somehow cool. Ming Shu lasted more than 5 hours on my skin which surprised me in a good way. I recommend this fragrance for winter wear as it will surround you with a soft, cool and floral-aquatic scent cloud.

I agree with many who said this is more floral than aquatic. Indeed, the frag's lawenber blue color might make it "seem" aquatic but it is not. Lovely bottle, light scent, starts off a bit too flowery for me but fades away to a very feminine, soft, satin-like scent that lingers a while, although the lasting power is only around 2-3 hours.

Its soft and sweet, a little bit fresh, but only a little, for this price you can get mutch better fragrances altough its not expensive, its not soooo unique, let`s say "its ok" :) for the office, or feminine casual...

Ming Shu smells a little powdery, a little aquatic but mainly like water lily and lotus. A really well done perfume. Great for winter!

25. march 2012 While i did love the original Ming shu, from the 90 ́s and used it a lot at that time i completly dislike this version of the Ming Shu, the modern EDT. Tried it yesterday in a local YR shop and it was disgusting! Like a water lilly has been cut and left in a water for a long time and them starting to get rotten and bad. Then there i a "wet" cedar note as well. Overall it is over the top fresh and too watery as well- Totally a cheapest smell you could find in a drugstore. Yack! To be honest, it instantly reminded me of a L ́eau d ́Issey and Escada Acte2, which i dislike with all my heart and nose. Such a dissapointment indeed. How little change can ruin a fragrance so much. Please do not remove this comment, since others might find it useful. Not every review should be positive, so people like me wanted to make a blind buy might find it very informative. Thanks.

I agree with the previous reviewer - I find aquatic fragrances kinda nasty on my skin and this is definitely very wet, very aquatic, but I rather think of a sea-weed-filled beach when I smell this, or a Chinese pond filled with water lilies and fish. Please, don't misunderstand me, this isn't fishy-smelling, it just smells like there's something... almost living as an ingredient in there. UPDATE: It might be the musk that creates this association. One of my relatives loved it though, so I gave it away to her - she in general loves extremely fresh, extremely wet and icy smells.

There's something nasty about this one, don't like it at all - maybe I just don't take to the "aquatics" (just started experimenting out of my perfume comfort zone), but there is a chemical smell to this one, not reminiscent of the seaside, more like a crowded public pool. Not exactly chloriney but reminiscent of. Don't think I'd wear this one again, even at the beach in the height of summer. Nasty.

It's a nice clean scent, but after a short while it's like it almost disappears on my skin.I like fresh, aquatic notes, but this one was a bit too light for my taste.

I had it a few years ago and I liked it.Now,I don't like and won't buy it again cause it is aquatic scent which I dislike.

Had it, used it, but would never re-buy it. :) Too sharp smell, gave me headachs. I like pleasent perfumes. :)

At first smell is really fresh and nice, but after 2 min it becomes very rough, very male and strong. To bad!

Very aquatic and fresh. So it's not my type of scent. Maybe it's good for someone after sports or so.

In 2026, Yves Rocher's Ming Shu now comes across as only a bleak stereotype of the 1990s aquatic floral trend. At this point, we've all smelled liquid hand soap in public restrooms with more distinction and character. Aqua-themed fantasy accords like lotus and waterlily soak limply in still pools of calone and melonal. A meaninglessly anodyne base of musk and wood clocks in its thankless job of cutting back the sweetness of watery floral-fruit syrup, ...and fixing the mess for some added persistence that is not even desired. Still determined, I sniff again, trying futilely to capture something memorable in a scent profile that now seems almost too cliched to qualify for canned air freshener. This is getting depressing. ...It is time to move on. Ming Shu even went on to spawn two flankers, which popular opinion claims are almost identical. While I don't have them here to compare directly, ...that sounds right. As for Ming Shu's roundly triangular bottle of pale blue glass; ...at least that makes for a charming ornament. One vaguely suggestive of a dream-like, Far Eastern temple. As for the name, Ming Shu, supposedly it means something like 'bright pearl' in Chinese, ...but even this translation is not certain.

The bottle pictured above is the lighter version of the Ming Shu Fleur de L'Aube (Flower of the Dawn). The original Ming Shu was Fleur Rare, and came in perfume, eau de parfum and eau de toilette (all now sadly gone). Fleur de L'Aube only comes in the EDP and EDT... I never got the EDT of this, as I have the MS Fleur Rare EDT and prefer it. The EDP of the Fleur de L'Aube is nicer than this, IMHO, as well. This perfume (and EDT) are inspired by the flowers on a chinese river (nymphaea stellata) that open at dawn and give off their lovely scent most strongly before the day's heat gets too intense. It is a very fresh, mostly aquatic floral with a crisp, sweet opening and a lovely sheer heart and finishes more woody than musky. My sister prefers this strength to the others I have...but to each their own!

No longer have this but would not mind again. A slighty oceanic organic fragrance, slightly salty. Not unlike l' Eau d' Issey but a bit more oriental. A good splash for the beach or summer holidays. Does not last very long and medium silage, so needs to be reapplied every few hours. A simple, clean fragrance for youthful outlook. Innocent and uncomplicated. Will not offend anyone and could be worn for office too!

This scent immediately reminds me of Acqua di Gioia, minus the citrus. It is fresh, watery and unisex. If you enjoy the natural water, grassy,fresh fragrances you will love Ming Shu. It's a clean, fresh, aquatic scent, suitable for both men and women, works well as an everyday spritz, almost musky yet oceanic.

Watery light aquatic floral w/a hint of peach. Perfect for every day. I'm hard to please, but I really like this. Don't know about the longevity tho.. EDIT-I did like it for a min..but not enought 'zing' for me. Like I said, the longevity is terrible.

My mom had it too, I kept the bottles to decorate my bathroom:) The perfume is really one of a kind, not just aquatic but floral and more precisely lotus-aquatic, very peaceful, like a little pond deep in the jungle, undisturbed by man.

The real Ming Shu was fresh, powdery. The original is harder to find, now they have a newer version. It is a good fragrance and I loved giving it to people as gifts as it is not an overwhelming scent.

i expected something else from this perfume...and it just disappointed me...it should have been more oriental or something ..but except for the bottle that looks ok it has no personality.

A replica of Issey Miyake's "L'eau D'Issey" (for women, 1992). Less complex and not that long lasting. That's it. I had both in the 90s and never re-purchased "Ming Shu".

Ming Shu is so far the only Yves Rocher fragrance that I actually like (and could purchase another bottle). It's fresh and subtle and great for everyday wear.

This will always be my favourite perfume, loved it for many years now. It's discreet and is appealing to everyone. Fresh yet flowery scent. It's pure bliss!

Got it as a gift, very soft and floral, it's inoffendsive and somewhat pleasant. However, it's not something I would spend money on.

Always got compliments with this eau de toilette, only down part is it doesnt stay very long,they should make a perfume of this

Nice and fresh , you can feel a scent of rose and other flowers ..not aquatic , is not a perfume you fall in love but it's nice

I imagine myself lying down next to the clear stream with fresh breeze. This fragrance makes me feel calm, cool, and clean.

It's more floral than aquatic, but still very subtle and refreshing. Very pleasant!
