Nouveau Genre

I ordered this as a replacement for my beloved Neonatura Cocoon- sadly discontinued years ago (but I still have a bottle that I had been eeking out). I had gotten Angel and it serves a purpose but I was still looking for something closer to Cocoon (and without that weird vitamin pee twang that Angel sometimes has). I saw Nouveau Genre and couldn't order it fast enough. When the 1 ounce bottle arrived it was so good that I turned right around and bought the 3 ounce. What I loved about Cocoon was that is was gourmand without being too sweet and while this isn't a clone it achieves the same result. I mainly get tonka bean, patchouli, palo santo, and just a hint of chocolate. It's not as rich in tonka bean as Cocoon, but it is very, very good nonetheless. The sweetness combined with the woodsy (almost smokey) notes really reminds me of roasting marshmallows over a campfire- but delectably sexy instead of innocent. I do think this is unisex, but for me personally I find leans a tad more feminine. Sillage and longevity could be better, but it's not bad. On the plus side it's not overpowering. I LOVE this one!!!

Stunning dark smooth patchouli that is earthy, but clean and polished. It's like very dark chocolate, gourmand, but in a chic and grown-up way, only slightly sweet. Almost a little cold. This is rather simple and stays the same all through the drydown, but it smells so nice that it isn't boring. If you suspect that Noveau Genre is Neonatura Cocoon repacked, you might be slightly disappointed. They have a lot in common, but they're not twins. I have a freshly decanted sample of Cocoon, so I'm not relying on memory here. The most noticeable difference is that Cocoon is quite vanillic while Noveau Genre gets its sweetness from tonka, which is similar but doesn't have that warm, 'golden' smell vanilla has. Noveau Genre is more of a smooth, cool, sleek patchouli as opposed to the more gourmand Cocoon. It's dark, bitter chocolate, while Cocoon is light chocolate with dark patch. Both are equally beautiful. I never pay for YR perfumes as they often give them out for free when you order some other stuff, but if they didn't, I would pay for this as it's such a gorgeous scent for the cold and dark season.

Yes, it's a "Nouveau Genre" (that means "New kind") compared to other Yves Rocher perfumes. No flowers, no citrus, but just Patchouli and Tonka (with, I perceive, a musk base?). A particular perfume that I love! Normally, I'm more of a fan of sweet, fruity, floral, oriental scents, but there's something about this perfume that attracts me. When I wear it I feel transported to a mysterious Celtic forest (strong woody smell) then entering an old gothic library, with an earthy smell of dust and old books (probably because of the patchouli), and a background scent of incense, amber and resins (maybe tonka with its smoky accents). A scent that will not appeal to everyone; you really have to like patchouli and earthy woody scents. Too bad this perfume was discontinued, probably because of its name, or its smell out of the ordinary of Yves Rocher perfumes. For me, it's 8/10!

Wow, oh, wow. Nouveau Genre smells wa-a-ay more expensive than it is, and it is my absolute favourite from the more recent YR line. A very very very creamy woody scent with a hint of milk chocolate. This is a brilliant substitute for Cocoon, which I remember from my childhood. I haven't smelled Cocoon in many years but this gives me the same feel. What I didn't expect, though, was that it is also a great substitute for BDK Gris Charnel, which I have been sooo close to getting a FB of. What a nice thing that I could get something as comforting and soothing with a very similar drydown for free with my shampoo order from YR (and thus save €150)!

This is a really nice combination of tonka, patchouli and just that. If you like the effect that Baccarat 540 creates you are going to love this, the smell is not the same but they both create the same cotton-candy effervescent effect. normally you can get this on sale for around 20 dollars/100ml and you definitely get your value for your money. When applied the silage is amazing for around 40 minutes everyone around you will go crazy for it, then it fades completely into a skin scent still slightly noticeable. Highly recommend this one.

Love it smells like chocolate on me! Leather and chocolate!! so pretty and great for fall, definitely unisex. Longevity is ok on me about 4 hours, on clothes longer. Sillage is arms length. Yves Rocher is a wonderful company and I’ve been to their stores in Europe. I known them for years! I will always order from them. This particular line is excellent. They are having a sale at the moment time to pick up some of the others. Highly recommended 10/10

Yeah, this is different from YR yet the same. The underpinnings of this remind me of other fragrances in the series but the opening blast is wild. Patchouli, sort of menthol quality to it, almost GGA in a way. This gives way to a slightly fruity patchouli and powdery tonka. The dry down is tonka with a woody amber in the background. Unisex, leans masculine in my opinion. Is it discontinued? If so, shame, because I really like this.

LOVE AT FIRST SNIFF!!! Opens up with strong, masculine, earthy patchouli, but that does not last long. As it warms up, tonka bean appears, the scent becomes much more sweeter, smoother, with lovely "weight" to it which to me is close to dark chocoloate. Beautiful, strong, not overly complicated. BUT not for ladies who do not enjoy unisex scents, can be easily worn by men and women.

I love this, this is the quintessential autumn fragrance. I want to bathe in this in fall. Fortunately, I don't get any typical tonka bean scent from this - I really don't like tonka bean, we're not friends. I would list the notes as patchouli and caramel. A sweet (but absolutely not too sweet), earthy, comforting fragrance, and at an amazing price as well - what's not to love?

This one is a really nice one, a nice surprise for I did'nt expect it to be so cute and original. I love it. It is very similar to Neonatura Cocoon but in a lesser "in your face" kind of way. I believe it's gonna be a great fun wearing this, especially in winter. BTW it's a blind buy, 30 ml for 16,5 euros. Excuse my bad english. Je sens très bon, je suis toute contente !

I’ve had my bottle for a couple of years now, not used it much simply because of the amount of scents I have. Stormy, overcast June day today and decided to give NG a spin. Now opens with very camphorous patchouli and lasts much longer than when I first purchased it. Much longer. Projects well. 8+ hours for me. Pleasantly surprised although it was good to start with.

If you buy it expecting Angel Muse, that's not the case here. I never smelled Cocoon, so I can't compare it to that, but this is a nice unisex option from the line. Good patchouli and tonka. This entire new line from them doesn't seem very strong or like it will last hours, so I am glad I didn't pay full price. It seems Yves Rocher has gone downhill somewhat.

The patchouli is the Queen/King and it's a beautiful earthy, dusty and woody one; not cloying and not dirty. It's sweet and clean. Sometimes I will forger about YR but I'll always go back to it for cosmetics and fragrances and with this line YR has listened to customers and has created some beautiful gender neutral perfumes that could well be niche.

I found this surprisingly quite good and performance is much better than some of the others in the line. Dry down is quite sweet with a vanilla and sometimes chocolate vibe with a touch of fruitiness. Performance on my skin is very good, throughout the day I get whiffs of it radiating from my forearms over 6 hours and beyond.

Nicely composed work that smells much more expensive than it is. 28€ for 100mL during a sale. Not heavy or reminiscent of a smoke shop, it’s patch done in a fractionated, modern way. It’s a smooth ride from the top notes all the way to its slightly powdery, tonka bean base, that reads midway between vanilla and chocolate.

It's my favourite sent from YR's new collection. Reminds me of Cocoon, it's rather unisex, more masculine than feminine. I would not say it's Eau de perfume, it's more like a body mist. Great for mixing with other fragrances. I would not pay the full price for it, though.

Beautiful and classy scent in a simple bottle. Nouveau Genre is a gentle and deep combination of wonderfully proportioned mix of light musk, woody, subtly sweet and earthy notes. The scent feels like a calm confidence and mystery of an unassuming beauty. An easy favorite!

It’s an amazing scent , the performance is moderate but that’s ok ... sad that they discontinued it.. I look for it in the official website it’s gone and they relaunched the others with new bottles... shame on you YR

Very, very similar to Tobacolor from the Dior niche line, with more patchouli instead of the smokey tobacco. Still very similar smoked candy effect. Great longevity too, so a very solid release.

For asian, this is a very sweet vanilla scent. Woody and earthy. For me it give a hint of cigar. Good sillage and long wearing. A mix of earthy, sweet, roasted the gives a very warm scent.

This is beautiful tonka and patch. Very soothing and excellent for layering. You have to love these two base ingredients for it to work for you. Very very nice!

Words cannot even describe my love for this. I am nursing my last little bottle. Smells like dry dark chocolate to me.

Fireplace and Angel Muse in one bottle. Great sillage, projection 6-7hrs and still on my skin for whole day.

Thanks to MoodyBooReviews and Sebastian from Looking Smelling Feeling Great on Youtube, for recommending this fragrance. It is indeed patchouli forward with cacao, vanilla, and tonka. It's quite good, but now that I see it's similar to Angel Muse, by Thierry Mugler, yes indeed it's extremely similar! It's like they took the grapefruit and pink pepper away from Angel Muse and left the Nutella and patchouli. Cacao is definitely present; one could say it's like Kokorico by Jean Paul Gaultier, without the funky fig. Good sillage and longevity. Yes, it is no longer on Yves Rocher's website, and I got mine from eBay. It isn't the highest quality scent, but it's still nice. Worth it, if you can find it for $70 and below; don't spend any more than that though. Once you're past $100, you might as well get Jovoy's Psychedelique or Coromandel by Chanel. Probably not a great time to wear it, in May, but perfect for Fall and Winter. It's difficult to find a summer patchouli regardless. I will say, Reminiscence Patchouli and Tauerville Patchouli Flash are better, for around the same price if you want something even more patchouli forward.

I can't detect any sweet note at all. It certainly doesn't fall into typical gourmand fragrance . IMO It's purely dark chocolate, earthy, slightly spicy, nutty kind of scent. Safe to say Nouveau Genre is a good example of gender-fluid perfume. I'm not sure how it delivers on man but on me, it brings upon an image of a firm, no-joke , 'I mean business' woman in the beginning but once you get to know her she's actually friendly & warm-hearted . NG does just that, opening with a sharp almost strong smell of patchouli then gradually fades to a pleasant, woody scent within 10 mins. Not a perfume you quickly put on then head out to run some errands , give it some time to mellow first . The performance is moderate but for the price I paid ($15/30ml) I couldn't ask for more. It does suggest "niche-esque'' minus the longevity . Go well with dark colored/grey outfit

The patchouli is the same as in Neonatura Cocoon, as in Angel Muse, as well as in the tonka+patchouli in A*Men Pure Tonka, but it is on the canvans of Jo Malone's Bergamot - more specifically its wood base . Nouveau Genre is easily unisex, leaning towards the feminine. Great on its own and awesome for layering. Just look at the notes - very much the base of so many perfumes, which only differ in mid or top notes from each other. You can experiment all day and if you like the perfume itself you'll find it hard to dislike the combos you'll make. Just find your favorites. So much fun!

I don’t think this one is a dupe. This is the most serious, ferocious wood tonka I have ever smelled. It’s soooo dry as if the wood was standing under the burning sun for so long. I can definitely smell chocolate here. The chocolate is dark 100% with 0 added sugar. This is so addictive and sexy on a man during winter. It’s leaning more earthy as if you’re smelling woods in a forest in the Alps during summer. I have a full bottle but I am not using it a lot, I have a funeral coming up soon and this is the one I am going to wear!

This fragrance quickly became my favorite; its initial impact is like a powerful burst of Patchouli and tonka, hitting you with an intense punch to the nose. Admittedly, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. However, as it gradually settles, a delightful transformation occurs, revealing a captivating blend of vanilla and woodsy notes that gracefully envelop your skin or clothing. The spiciness is present but not overpowering, and the patchouli mellows out beautifully over time.

What a nice surprise...i didn't expect that from YR!Definitly unisex, although my nose says it goes more to the masculine side! It's sweet-ish, but not overwhelming, a little dusty, a litlle spicy, a little dark chocolate...i must say that it goes very close to Mugler's sweetness!It was a blind buy for me, due to the rewiews, and i'm glad that i did it! I find it perfect for layering. I give it an 8/10!

Gorgeous smooth patchouli with a creamy quality, that I guess is the tonka. Is it really only two notes in this? Very strong, and I can’t spray anywhere near my face or I find it makes me queasy after a while. But getting wafts from my wrists as I move them around is lovely. Not suitable for hot weather in my opinion. Stays on clothes for days and days.

Im using this perfum for years every now and then. I havent wear it for a long time but the other day i sprayed only 1 spray!! My husband even smelled it from the other room its crazy how strong it got by years. I used to spray 2-3 sprays usually but now 1 is more than enough! Longevity is super and overall its a great tonka patchuli combo 👌🏽

In the head notes, it's a sparkling patchoui. Smells like a old polished mahogany furniture, the it becomes more tender till woody and warm basenotes . Kinda "niche" perfume, a pity it becomes rather rapidly a skin perfume, though very nice, intruiging one

This is interesting. Leans more masculin to my nose. I like the "burnt wood" aroma. It has a seductive vibe. Definitely a "deep winter" or late autumn perfume. I might buy a 30 ml bottle later. Seems to be quite long lasting.

At first I was like, "this is f*cking weird". But when I sprayed it again and let it sit, I actually kind of like it. It's a dry, woody scent and I would probably use it to layer and tone down some of my sweeter scents.

On my skin it’s very woody and unisex. After it dries it smells like chocolate vanilla and woods! A sexy sweet scent. I love it! Last for half the day pretty loudly, then becomes more subtle (not a skin scent though)

Pop version of GG Absolute, softer, more sweet, but still nice and standing apart from others YR frags Definitely best of line (imo)

Nowhere close to Straight To Heaven. It's basically dark chocolate once you spray it. I really like it. Good potency too!

This is a bang for the buck dupe if you like Tiziana Terenzi Ursa.

Must. Love. Patchouli. And I do! I am obsessed from the Yves Rocher Eaux de Parfum/Pleines Natures line and I love patchouli so I needed to acquire this discontinued gem that was missing from my collection. I was able to find it on Ebay for a decent price. This is delicious chocolatey patchouli in the middle of a fragrant woody forest. Love it! Many of the scents from this line are still available, though the packaging has changed. In particular, I love Cuir de Nuit, Voile d'Ocre, Plein Soleil and Sable Fauve.

For me, it is smells like dark chocolate. Pure dark chocolate, nothing else.. This item easily feels like straight from the Body shop.

I ordered this recently based on all the positive reviews here. I received and tested it today and oh boy! It's totally not my type of fragrance. I guess it's the patchouli that makes it feel like a dirty damp forest and soil smell on my skin.

Dark chocolate that is dry and slightly spicy. Even though Eaux de Parfum Collection itself is claiming that they are targeted as Unisex, but to my untrained nose, Nouveau Genre is the only one that can be considered as Unisex, at least in my word of Perfume dictionary. I would love to wear on me as a female, but I would like to smell this on men too, which I think it will be more suitable. Even though it's not really a womanizer-kind of perfume, but still, it has its own charm. FYI, My cousin who came out as a gay few years ago, I met him in this afternoon and he told me I smell so sexy and wishing that his 'dream guy' wears this scent and hug him. :P I think Eaux de Parfum Collection is not that complex overall, but definitely some people will enjoy the simplicity of this beauty. Considering the fact it is in EDP, the silage is not that great, but the longevity is quite impressive compared to other sisters from Eaux de Parfum Collection. Another interesting fact I found about Nouveau Genre is, the scent tends to be sweeter in hot weather, but in cold weather, it becomes more earthy, even medicinal to my nose. I prefer the scent when it's under the hot weather, because I'm not a fan of earthy/herbal type of perfume. I can see that this is a great solid perfume for all seasons/occasions, but I would prefer to wear it during spring and summer, due to the perfume changing into something herbal under the cold weather and it almost causing me to sneeze.

This is a totally unisex musky smell that makes me feel mysterious and clean at the same time. It makes me feel like I am watching a horror movie- fog rolling around the base of the trees, dark forest - green and void of life - barren and ominous. I usually prefer sweet smells but this one is a hit! From the very first spray you are smack in the middle of the forest, hiking with mossy rains around you. Unlike some of the other recent releases, I do not find major transitions with this fragrance over time - the smell is consistent. When it is first worn, it has a nearly overpowering smell that is anything but girly. It hits me hard. No mercy. Though it smells different, the onset of the first few whiffs reminds me of that fierce strength of the original Poison: not for the faint of heart. Within 15 minutes it mellows out and smells quite pleasant. I cannot picture putting this in my purse because I really feel like it needs to soften up before being released in the wild. Over an hour in I still smell that woodiness from a couple of feet away, but within 2 hours it is barely noticeable from a foot away. I still think this is good bang for your buck on a unisex scent.

Just got this in the mail today! As the notes would suggest, very very patchouli and tonka bean-y. To my nose it smells EXACTLY like Angel Muse EDP. Granted, I haven't owned or worn Angel Muse in a few years but yeah... Angel Muse. I like it but I burned myself out on the scent when I had it. The patchouli in here is slightly less medicinal/mentholated smelling than in AM, but I kinda really loved that about AM. The patchouli here smells exactly like the patchouli in Fresh Cannabis Santal to me. As an aside, I bet the name is an actual nod to Mugler's creation of a "new genre" of perfume? Even though I've definitely seen gourmand like scents described prior to the 90s. It's 100% quality and I got a great deal on Ebay. It was sold out on the YR website. I may keep or may pass it along somehow when I get tired of it. I really want Voile d'Ocre from this same line now that I understand the quality/value of this house. I think this is my first sniff of Yves Rocher ever. Very excited to try more from them and have set up an Ebay alert accordingly. Personally 6/10. Quality for price is strong 8/10.

In my humble opinion, Nouveau Genre is the best fragrance in this relatively new Yves Rocher collection of 'unisex' fragrances - and the only one that is truly unisex, although it still leans feminine. The list of notes above is obviously incomplete: aside from patchouli and tonka beans, I can smell musk (of the 'black' variety), plum, some spices (nutmeg? cardamom?) and something woody in the drydown. This fragrance is 'dark', musky, sensual and quite strong. For the first few hours it shows a distant similarity to NR For Her Absolue (in the purple bottle, sadly discontinued) and after it dries down it smells like a mixture of Bvlgari Jasmin Noir and Versace Crystal Noir - but it is much less obnoxious than either of these two. Nouveau Genre is quite powerful in the beginning, it opens strongly, but after a few hours it turns into a skin scent. I'm happy to endorse this one; try it if you love NR musks, Jasmin Noir, Crystal Noir or (gasp) Dior Poison.

Expensive smoky sweetness, far beyond the usual Yves Rocher quality. There was a phase in this scent’s development when it reminded me of one of my very first perfumes: Jil by Jil Sander (1997): loads of tonka and some chocolate. Thinking fondly about Jil, next day I went to another Yves Rocher shop to sample Nouveau Genre again. And something strange happened: the dominant opening note was coconut (!), which in combination with patchouli smelled more „nutty” than „tropical-beachy”, and for a moment I even got a slight Coromandel vibe... But then it all settled down with patchouli and woods being the most prominent notes. I wouldn’t say this fragrance leans masculine. The velvety patchouli gives it a feminine aura. Well, OK, it’s a smooth unisex. My husband didn’t like it but I’m tempted to buy a bottle, anyway.

I can understand how folks feel this has angel vibes. But I get tonnes of cedar instead of patchouli, and the sweetness is coming from a pineapple note. Strange that the only notes listed here are tonka and patchouli, but I'm not really picking up on those. Perhaps they lend a creamy earthy base that gives Nouveau Genre more depth. Not unpleasant, but not sure if it's more than a like. I'm going to wear it again when the weather warms up to see how it develops. I'm getting wafts from my wrist (arms length sillage), and about 6 hours longevity.

I haven't wore this in like two years and it's now one of the strongest performers in my collection. I guess it macerated and got deeper because now it's on until I shower. I mostly wore it in warmer months and remember it being a "strong like". But... yesterday I randomly decided to try it in frigid east coast winter....and it's just magical in the cold. Got so many compliments with just two sprays on my neck. Takeaway, def need to try your perfumes in different conditions or you might miss out on the magic.

Delectable, delicious and comforting. It's like drizzling yourself with raw chocolate syrup topped of with a sprinkling of nuts. It's velvety and rich in a non-cloying way and sits close to your skin with moderate sillage as you move. Very relaxing. You do get more than what you pay for. A luxurious treat without breaking the bank. One of the cheapest fragrances in my collection that can compare to the pricier ones. ( But again, price is not an indicator of quality and fragrance's beauty)
