Rose Absolue

My story with rose absolue is rather strange, It had been a long time since I was searching for a pure rose or tonka bean scent since I love both notes and when I saw this perfume I thought It could be an option for me to see how the combination would work.What I was expecting was a pure innocent rose scene and when I sprayed it for the first time...oh God huge disappointment, It seemed to be the most old-fashioned scent I ever smelled and I even contacted the seller to ask if the bottle was old because most of the reviews were positive. Then I sprayed it on my wrist and MADE myself to tolerate it, it was so unpleasant that I wanted to wash it off.... And I fell in love in 10 minutes...after experiencing a lot of hate-love feelings...The scent almost made me cry, I don't know if I am super emotional or just scents are so powerful that they can awake past memories...The scent was like a bunch of all my past memories both good and bad came to my head at once. I even do not get too much roses, In fact I don't get any notes separately , they are so well-blended that you cannot say it is only a rose perfume... For me the smell is nostalgic(even sad) very dark, bitter and rather sweet...suitable for all seasons maybe except hot summer days...and I think it suits all ages maybe except teenagers. If you are searching for a very light and very trendy happy rose you are in the wrong place. This rose is dark , very dark but wearable...The scene is romantic but not in a sexy sweet modern way but in a deep serious & poetic way...it is simple but rich. A masterpiece. The bottle I have is Rose Absolue Edt (not eau frache or Edp)I dont know if the EDP is much different or not. I have several perfumes but this one is my dearest perfume that I will never give away.

Yves Rocher Rose Absolue (perhaps Rose Tonka or Rose Ambre would be a better name) is as much an Oriental as it is a Rose perfume. It flirts with becoming a sweet gourmand but never quite agrees to remove its rosy cloak. The top and middle are a lovely blend of rose and tonka, with light cinnamon and wood side notes and a plummy fruit that seems to come and go. For my nose, I know that it is blended to perfection because one time I smell and it seems rosy, the next time it seems more sweet ambery, the third time it is mildy spicy. If, like me, you are not a fan of unadulterated rose but you love it as a note among others, this could be the rose that wins your heart. It is the only perfume with ROSE in its name that I love - I have an inkling that if I wear this now and again for a few months I might start to appreciate other rose perfumes more by olfactory association. Sadly, it appears to be discontinued but you can still find it here and there on-line at reasonable prices. Later note - I have worn this now many times (I still love it) and sure enough it lured me into liking rose! I even increasingly like rose soliflores, though I refuse to wear them in public. Maybe if I spiked my hair and wore chains and leather I would have the cojones to wear a rose soliflore in public, but that ain't happening so I will enjoy them at home.

I adore this perfume. Of all the rose scents I’ve tried, Rose Absolute is one of the sweeter ones. It’s not sugary-sweet; it’s a warm, rounded sweetness. Just a hint gourmand, with a tiny bit of booziness to it. This is a gorgeous, cozy combo of rose petals, tonka, spices and cinnamon. Absolutely more of a floriental than a straight floral. I first smell the dewy-fresh rose petals when I spray this on. The spices emerge most strongly in the heart notes, but they don’t overwhelm the rose or turn the perfume musty. The thick, sweet tonka bean note is there pretty much through the whole composition, but is strongest in the drydown. The tonka, rose and cinnamon mix so wonderfully, and come out smelling like a sensual, decadent, spiced rose-vanilla dessert. Very comforting and inviting. This is quite unusual for a rose scent. I don’t usually think of rose-based perfumes as being cozy, but this one definitely is. Despite this quality, the sweet, creamy notes don’t ever overwhelm the natural delicate aroma of the rose petals. The sillage and lasting power are quite good – I can still smell this on myself hours after spraying it on. A very successful blind buy indeed.

Goooouuurgeooussss! I'm so glad I tested this and I will purchase for sure asap even if I have to drive back to the only shopping mall I can find it! I tested it in EdP. It's impressive. I smell a glorious intense red rose and bulgarian essential rose quality. I also smell a fruity note but very faint (thanks god). I think it's very feminine, not something I would like to smell on a man. It's a beautiful rose scent and I smell almost no powder in it (double thanks god and Christine Nagel)! Honestly I don't smell patchouli here. Maybe it's just perfectly blended in you don't detect its strong note that kills anything else. It has lasting power, good sillage, refined basenote that support the beautiful rose without sinking it. Everything is just so balanced in this scent, not a sexual scent for sure but delicately sensual nonetheless. It swifts around me as I move, it's not a stiff scent like an armour (so many scents are like that) Thumbs up for this! Also nice layered with Voile d'ambre!

This is such a gorgeous luscious rose scent. The combination has beauty and complexity but it feels effortless and natural. It is bright and fresh on the opening. I think I feel a bit of bergamot. Then it turns into smooth heavenly rose with a hint of spice, mostly cinnamon. Patchouli adds just a touch of wood on the dry down. There is nothing that I would add or remove from this scent. It has this perfect harmony. If I would compare it to Stella Nude, another rose fragrance I like. Stella would be like a young innocent princess, soft and gentle. Rose Absolu is a gorgeous young Queen. Her beauty is beyond comparison. She is sensuous but classy. She carries herself with an aura of dignity but without vanity or pride. I can see her walking in the garden dressed in a gorgeous pink satin gown. All other flowers bow in silence to her eternal beauty. I would definitely recommend it to everyone who loves rose scents.

Rose dessert of amazing quality Plush, jammy, gourmand but very realistic and natural smelling rose. Cinnamon is supporting here and adds depth. Could’ve easily been released today, rose is very trendy at the moment. Think Delina, Atomic Rose, Very Good Girl and Hibuscus Mahajadi. Those are all a bit fresher, while this is more like a rose desert. This divine rose lasts all day with noticeable sillage, even towards the end. Absolutely adore it, high quality, and my favorite of the Secret d’Essences line, and possibly of all Yves Rocher fragrances. Yves Rocher does rose well, I love Cantate and Rose Ispahan (one of the most sought after vintage Yves Rochers), too. In general I think that Yves Rocher is criminally overlooked, they release amazing, natural smelling perfumes.

This is a rose version of chanel's coco to me. So creamy and a little leathery, grounded and rich, very satisfying. Hardly a rose in its primal meaning - rather a rose liqueur with a hink of tonka and cinnamon and a little wood smoke. I was so surprised that YR came up with something like this! - a truly outstanding scent, bottled in quite a sophisticated-looking flakon. The staying power is also very good and I cannot wait to wear it: it is bull's eye perfume for a colder autumn: you still hear the echo of summer ( florals ), but you are also getting ready to embrace the soon-to-arrive nothern winds and this means fire, warm drinks, cosyness and seasonal festivities ( tonka, cinnamon... ). Well done, will make sure to never run out of it.

This IS 5 stars in my book! Smells expencive & niche! Good lastingpower too! This smells exactly like something by Jean Patou or some overpaid niche-brand would sell!!! An instant moder classic it is!!! BTW: I think many of you would be interested in what the famous LUCA TURIN wrote about this in "THE GUIDE"? So here it goes: "3 Stars - fresh Rose: Rose Absloute is by far the best of Yves Rocher's latest set of three upmarket fragrances, a comfortable, lemony-powdery rose that feels strinkingly real, like the headspace rose reconstructions of the eighties, on a background of tonka and patchouli. Far better than one has any right to expect given the bargain price less than $40 for 2 ounces. LT" Who could have said it better?

This used to be my signature scent back in the days, before it was discontinued. I still have a small 10 ml bottle that I keep for memories. Smells like million rose petals. Very natural rose scent. One of the best I've ever tried. Nothing synthetic, nothing pungent. Tonca bean is also present and little bit of patchouli making it seem syrupy to some. Simple, elegant, feminine...Huge longevity and soft silage. I realize I talk about a "relic", because it became so hard to find... For the rose lovers that are lucky enough to find it, go blindly for it because it is a gem. For those that are in search for another rose fragrance you might try YR's "Quelques notes d'amour", that has some similar notes.

For me this smells like donuts marmalade. I personally hate donuts, especially with rose marmalade, but surprisingly - I love this perfume. It's one of the best perfumes with deep, smeet, dark, ideal rose. It's nothing like Stella, Chloe or newest Moment de Bonheur... There was also Rose Garden tea made by Twinnings and it has also been discontinued. It smelt just like Rose Absolue and wearing this fragrance while sitting and drinking Rose Garden Tea was like being in heaven! And two years ago my husband planted two roses in our garden and one of them smells just like Rose Absolue too. So, wearing the perfume, drinking Rose Garden tea and sniffing roses in my garden meakes my perfect day:)

I don't really like rose frags, but bought this out of curiosity, it was very affordable as purse spray. Initial thought was "whoa, strong and REALLY sweet". This perfume makes my mouth water for some reason, so i guess it is gourmand :). It's not an "old lady rose" for sure, there's something very youthful to it. At first i didn't like it much, and still i don't feel quite comfortable wearing it in public. But it's growing on me, and it's somehow addictive. I find myself craving for it, and spraying it on quite often at home. The perfume isn't really me, i don't wanna smell like an edible rose ^^, but i have to say it's quite lovely, and my guilty pleasure to wear at home now and then :).

Love, love, love! It`s been nearly 20 years when I last time use YR`s fragrance. This was little bit more expensive than YR`s fragrance usually. It sparked my interest in it. Then I came here and read all wonderful reviews and I ordered it blind on online. I`m huge rose fragrances fan. This is so unique, nothing is not like this. I think this is better than any other rose fragrance in the market. I love Stella and Bvlgari, but I love this one more! It last long. It been 5 hour since I put it in to my skin. I still smell warm sweet smell on my wrist. First you can smell spicys and then comes sophisticated rose. Last one you can smell lovely sweet cedar and patchouli. I highly recommend!

Update: I was about to leave for the gym, when i received Rose Absolu in the mail. So I couldn't help myself and sprayed it lightly on the back of my hand....wow, that was absolutely enchanting scent, warm, with a little bit of spice. The sillage and staying power are outstanding, because all the time at the gym i felt that i smelled like a rose bush ( and i mean it in a good way), but because it's not an appropriate scent for the gym, i kept trying to scrub it off with Purell, but to no avail. And now,4 hours later, i can still get a whiff of the almondy drydown. Totally in love with it! Highly recommended! Although finding it in the US can be a royal pain in the rear end.

This week my order arrived of 2 bottles of Rose Absolue EDT Eau Fraiche in 75 ml per bottle!! And the perfume is AMAZING!!!! Just like the EDP it is very strong. It is a bit fresher, but still VERY VERY sweet! I can really say I adore EVERY concentration of this fragrance!! Pure perfume, EDP and now EDT Eau Fraiche. What a masterpiece fragrance line!! And I was just in time ordering 2 because Yves Rocher is discontinuing the EDT version!! Oh and I forgot to mention: I do not consider this perfume a FLORAL perfume, nooooo... It is a very strong and sweet oriental - spicy - gourmand. So you ladies loving sweet, spicy and gourmand accents, this one is for you!

I think Yves Rocher company has serious problems with following up the trends in perfume industry. All brands in the market are releasing "Rose" version of their regular perfumes (D&G/Rose The One, M. Kors/Gold Rose, Burberry Body Rose Gold, E.Armani Diamonds Rose... only to name a few) But Yves Rocher decided to discontinue the one of the best rose scent out there. The quality, complexity, combination of roses with cinnamon and sweet notes were just perfect, so unique and special like niche brand creation. If they bring it back, I am sure it would sell like crazy, at least more than before and of course more than some other boring rose waters.

Well, as usual I have been hoarding perfume samples for whatever reason and now I am trying to minimise my collection by using them all up. I have a wipe type perfume sample of this one and I have to say (having smelled the original in the bottle in store before) that I think it has turned. However, I smell spices on the first opening (it must be the cinnamon, but I couldn't pinpoint that it was it, smells very spicey. Then comes the rose but it is not the common rose you would expect ( by common I mean sweet sticky). And at the end , all I can smell is a woodsy undertone and patchuli, really strong patchouli.

Sadly, this beautiful smelling gem doesn't last all that long on me. I notice most people give it a good rating for longevity though. I should probably create some little sachet that I can hide on my person without putting the juice directly in contact with my skin as almost all YR fragrances seem to get just devoured by my skin. I notice right away a lot of cinnamon blended with the rose here and it's one of the reasons that I love it so much. Shortly before I am unable to detect it on my skin I smell a nice rosey woodsy blend that remains soothing and warm. I love it, I just wish it lasted longer for me.

I mourn over this beautiful bouquet of a fragrance. I got a 15ml bottle from Yves Rocher with an order (why do they discontinue great products? Why?)didn't try it for a few weeks. When finally did, I was overwhelmed by a lush, sweet rose tempered by gentle spice. It seemed to me almost a rose version of Miracle. I used up the bottle and when I went online to buy more, it was discontinued. My luck. If I would have known I would have bought as many as I could have afforded, as this would have been one of my top favorites. I every so often email Yves Rocher and plead that they bring it back.

One of my all time favourites! Sweet, deep, lush, yammy rose with almost gourmand edge. The opening has a green note that gives freshness and keeps it from coming too sweet. I have the edp and pure parfum and both are lovely. The edp is fresher and the green note is more pronounced while the parfum is more focused on the deep, gourmand, yammy notes. Both version smell very rich, elegant and expensive. This is femininity in a bottle and something I want to always have in my collection. I love the packaging too, it's very simplistic and elegant. Truly a masterpiece from Yves Rocher.

When I tried Rose Absolue in the store, I hated it. However, when a few weeks later I received a mini bottle and decided to give the smell a proper try, I fell in love with it instantly. It smells delicious above anything else. It is soft, warm and feminine. And it is sweet, yet not too light or girly. I personally find it soothing, a little bit nostalgic maybe - in a good way. Happykitty put it well, saying "If you know how rose petal jam smells, then you know how Rose Absolue smells." A home-made rose petal jam served warm, like at grandma's, was what I was thinking exactly.

NOT A REVIEW: Sorry for the non-review remark but I just had to pass these news onto fellow Rose Absolue fans. This perfume is officially discontinued. So I've written to Yves Rocher and asked them to please bring back this perfume. They said if enough people write to them, they may consider bringing it back. For those of you who would like to have it back, go to Yves Rocher website and click on "Contact Us", then e-mail the customer services and ask them to bring back Rose Absolue. Thank you for allowing me to interrupt the wonderful reviews on here. :)

UPDATE: The more i've sniffed, sampled and bought perfumes in the last months, the more i appreciate rare gems like these. There's tons of designer/ department store perfumes out there that all are similar and booooooring, nothing really stands out, whatever price tag. Rose isn't normally what i like in a perfume, but this is delish! Don't let the patch in the notes scare you. I usually can't handle patchouli, but here i can't even detect it. Edible, sweet, still very much wearable. And this is different, yay :)

Gosh, how to describe the perfection?..It is in the top five roses that I've ever tried, but I tried over a hundred roses. Perfect representation of Nabokov's "Lolita" in this juice. Its a gourmand on level of yummyness, but if its a dessert - than its not an overly sweet one, it has its kicks and spicy surprises, yet it is very fluffy, with souffle-like consistence, you don't feel overfed, but just craving for more. Christine Nagel is a sorceseress, who does with notes tricks after the tricks.

I just adore this scent! What lovely roses and definitely NOT cloying. I was afraid it was going to be more on the gourmand side but not at all! It's sweet and spicy but in a very gentle way. I think it's one of Yves Rocher's best scents that they currently offer. It is oh so feminine and luxurious for the price! HINT: You can get a great deal on their fragrances if you are a regular mail-order member! I loved it so much and I knew my mother would as well so I bought her a bottle too!

A warm and soft spicy rose gourmand, like rose jam. The spices and warm vanilla like properties of tonka bean together with rose and sweet notes, this is the perfect balance between all things good. Reminiscent of the even older Rose Ispahan, which is heavier and more boozy than Rose Absolue. I recommend this to everyone. Une Rose Vermeille has more of the zesty raspberry, Rose Jam by Lush is not, according to me, worth considering as it's too artificial smelling.

@ Blue Wolf: I have a purse spray and a full bottle of Rose Absolue. I store them in their boxes, away from heat and light, and both have already turned light brown. It even says on the package " The colour of your perfume can change over time due to the natural raw materials it contains, including two rose absolutes, but this does not diminish its oldfactory quality". The color is more than likely to change, but the smell remains the same.

Le parfum version is richer and more syrupy but Rose Absolue edp is close enough to that. I no longer own the le parfum, only edp and I indulge myself with a spray or two whenever I crave a perfect rose gourmand. I smell lushest, red rose, marmalade and lots of cinnamon with a warm patchouli base. Rose Absolue also reminds me of turkish delight. This is as edible as a rose can get.

A remarkable fragrance. A gourmand rose, sweet and spicy. I always think of boozy rose-jam. Very well balanced and not overpowering IMO. Longevity is amazing- I applied on spray this morning and it is still very noticable 11 hours later. Love it! Its sadly been discontinued in my country but I managed to get a couple of back-ups. I truly don't ever want to be without this perfume

this starts off with a rich, red rose then the tonka soon comes in and it's like a sugary/gourmand rose. i think i get a hint of cinnamon but the patchouli and cedar are alluding me. it reminds me *a lot* of lush's rose jam, but it's not as potent, therefore as a perfume, i am enjoying this one more, rose jam perfume was just too strong on me (though i love the shower gel.)

Rose oh Rose, where art thou? Ok, enough of agony, I can't help but ask - why are you discontinuing your most honorable fragrance Mr Son or Grandson of Mr Yves Rocher? "Rose is a rose is a rose", a wise man said... This perfume confirmed that with the highest rate of dignity. I never eventually bought it as it disappeared to soon. What a shame!!!

This is the perfect jammy rose. It’s sweet and warm without being gourmand. Very feminine. It reminds me of Tumutle Christian Lacroix while Lacroix is more cosmetic and sensual, this is more playful and “edible”. I wish they would bring this fragrance back or at least release a new version with the same scent profile. Lovely

I feel that this is the quintessential rose fragrance. It starts off jammy then evolves into an elegant, dreamy rose and finishes with a beautiful mix of rose and tonka beans. Rose perfumes have a reputation of being 'old woman' style scents but this is definitely not one of them. My favourite rose.

Gorgeous gorgeous rose rose rose (Turkish, Bulgarian and Moroccan!) so delicious, like a rich potent sweet wine/jam Heaven!!! Enhanced by the delicious tonka beans and patchouli - everything beautiful. Absolutely luscious!! Intoxicating!!!! Such a tragedy that it's discontinued!!!

Beautifull scent, my first impression was; it smelled like a big bouquet of roses!!! After its drydown you can smell the spices slightly. This is a very nice blended rose fragrance. Normally I find Rose scents too strong and get a headache, but this is too good!!!

I love it! A very jammy, but natural rose - a true red rose! I have A LOT (probably 20+ different ones) of rose perfume, and this one is one of my top 3. I could smell this all day long <3 Not a complex perfume, but truly beautiful

J'ai un petit vaporisateur de voyage. C'est vraiment une fragrance que j'aime et dommage qu'elle soit arrêtée. J'aimerais lui trouver un équivalent. Une très belle rose. Un gros désappointement de ne pas l'avoir en grand format.

This such an intensive fragrance. It's really really sweet, like rose jam. Perfect for evenings, in winter. It last very long, especially in scarfs. I love it really really much. Great work YR!

I don't understand why the beautiful aromas are removed from production if there is no decent replacement. Usually I don't like sweet perfume, but this really is very good.

Love this well-developed gourmand rose! You can still find it on EBay at times, but it is slowly disappearing... A good rose is so hard to find....and keep around!

I compared the parfum to the eau de parfum and prefer the latter because it has more of the cinnamon note and is therefore more interesting and dynamic to me ..

beautiful, and i'm not a big fan of rose when it's too prominent in a perfume but this one is truely devine! very sophisticated, deep, complex scent.

Excellent! Not a traditional rose scent but more a oriental style, spicy-warm rose. On my skin the lasting power is more than 8 hours.

A true masterpiece from Christine Nagel. For all the women that adore Rose perfumes, your collection cannot do without this one!!
