Sable Fauve

A Lion Has a Beautiful Fawny Coat Wait till you sniff the new Sable Fauve. It will knock your socks off. That's what happened to me while checking out the six new releases from Yves Rocher La Collection Parfums, Cuir de Nuit and Sable Fauve blew my mind! Allegedly designed to recall tawny sand, the warmth of the sun on the skin, Sable Fauve is just too smoky, sweet, gourmand, and vanillic. The tonka you get here is an almond and smoke subtlety of this kind of roasted beans, from the synthetic coumarin, became more renowned thanks to its use in Shalimar By Jacques Guerlain in 1921. A sweet and fresh note will rise from bottom to heart of the fragrance, lingering on the skin for hours whilst enriching the overall fragrance. As used in Sable Fauve it has a sweet odor readily recognized as the scent of newly mown hay. Alongside its herbaceousness, it displays a slight spicy inclination – as well as a vanillic aspect, which is why often people confound it with the vanilla. This warmth also extends to encompass notes of caramel. I admire its creaminess and powdery notes, bringing depth and character to the fragrance once combined with benzoin and labdanum, here used to give a gourmand and oriental touch. An alternative to vanilla, tonka features heavily in iconic fragrances with a fruity-candy aroma, such as Thierry Mugler’s Angel and Le Mâle by Jean-Paul Gaultier, just to mentions a few. But tonka is not the main note, it is a background supporter, rather the star is benzoin, with its velvety finish and pronounced fruity note, reminiscent of stewed Morello cherries, this is the sweetheart of many a perfume, including Sable Fauve. This is a real bomb of benzoin. What everyone calls vanilla in their reviews is the note of benzoin dominating this fragrance. Ditto, tonka bean is there, too, but most of all it's all about the leading benzoin. Hold on, is this perfume all too cloying, sugary, sickly? Of course not! Sable Fauve features labdanum, which is used to create a resinous, woody-amber accord, reminiscent of ambergris and incense, and tone down the sweetness. The brown-eyed rockrose, Cistus ladanifer, is a species of a flowering shrub, the broad evergreen leaves are covered by glandular hairs that exude the odoriferous oleo-resin we call labdanum, better known to some gardeners as Rock Rose, which is a pillar of chypre perfumes and many Orientals. This warm and complex resin is sometimes perceived as leathery, sometimes honey-like, with hints of plum. It's a pleasant fragrance, a very great one. Well made and long-lasting. I've had it on for about all day now, and it's still quite prominent. But at the end of the day, it's just benzoin. I have smelled this type of accord in other fragrances before, yet this one is excellent. This perfume is a nice surprise, now I've seen everything. The benzoin here is incredibly well done, so elegant, resinous, even smoky! Also, accompanied by the right amount of tonka and just a taste of labdanum, it stays cozy till the end. A perfect feast for the wintertime, and long-lasting too. In my conclusion, it is a naive bet, a perfume with character and timelessness, and I see it harmless for wearing at the office. On the outfit side, nothing to complain about. I fancy the fact that it is not heady from the start but that it remains stable throughout the day with a tendency towards the gourmand-sweet side at the end of the day. This perfume is a fine pick, in the same collection I also really fancied Cuir de Nuit, which I've reviewed already.

All these reviews are astounding. I had to double check that I had the same fragrance. My bottle was purchased in April of 2025. 1. There is no Benzoin in here. There is barely a sensation of amber. 2. The notes listed are completely off as are the main accords. This is extremely sweet. Almost cloyingly so. Childish and linear. This doesn't smell like Black Opium, nor does it smell like a typical vanilla scent. Its not resinous in the least. Its best described as SWEET & FRUITY. What does it smell like? If you smelled any fruity Sospiro, like Erba pura or Dolce Melodia. It smells similar in DNA to those, except much sweeter. A sweet fruit basket type smell. Only the fruit s are not on level 10. More like level 2-3. I was hoping for a deep resinous Amber. I really dont like hyper sweet or fruit basket scents-- Its ok 7.7/10. Edit: I found it to be a pleasant dumb reach. Ive gone through 2 bottles. So I will have to raise my score to 8.2/10

I purchased this more out of fear that it was being discontinued, otherwise I would have waited as it’s not on my priority list of fragrances to get my hands on. Overall it’s a great fragrance, it’s does remind me quite a bit of Black Opium, maybe a bit different at the beginning but becomes more similar in the dry down. I’d say it’s 85% close if you are a discerning reviewer, probably closer for a fragrance muggle. I do find it lasts a bit longer on me than Black Opium which is nice, and as I don’t love BO enough to pay full price (I prefer BO Extreme) this is a good economical option to have something similar in your collection. Thus I am grading it a love because if I run out and it’s still available I would re-purchase.

Love this and everything else from this line! I actually have grown to love this even more over time. It lasts a good while, sometimes i use it at work and spray in my hand and run through my hair. I find it very unisex, i find it very uplifting but yet not in the typical sparkling way a citrus is. It is more like a confidence boost. As a professional woman surrounded by men, i dont like to wear something too dainty or too flowery OR too sexy to a meeting. This is perfect in my opinion, bc it isnt flowers, it is candy, it isnt old lady. The labdanum gives it a kick ass leathery touch, but just a pinch! To me, It just smells good and very “unafraid”.

I can't understand why this beauty is getting discontinued. In all YR shops they still have testers but no more perfumes for sale... it's such an amazing scent! It does remind me a lot of So Elixir Bois Sensuelle but it's much softer and warmer. I believe that tonka does the job here, also the cedar notes that are missing here (unlike in Bois Sensuelle) make the difference (less bitter sharpness). It's a rather long-lasting scent that becomes warmer and warmer in time. I fell for in in the summer but looked forward to fall in order to start enjoying it to the fullest. It's really amazing and should be brought back ASAP!

I took a chance on this one and ordered a full bottle. I'm glad I did. It's lovely, warm, and a little mysterious. I will have to be careful where I wear this because it's strong on the benzoin, but it's beautiful. It's heavy straight out of the bottle, but it does seem to fade quickly, which is actually my only complaint. I've been putting this on at bedtime because I find it so relaxing and warm. This is a winner for Yves Rocher, though quite different from their classics.

At first, I had a hard time accepting this perfume... a wild scent indeed; its name suits it like a glove! But I found myself enjoying it a little more day by day until I fell in love with it! It's not a perfume for everyday, it's very dominant. Personally, I find that benzoin replaces vanilla perfectly when you are looking for a more naughty vanilla, and with the tonka bean and its smoky accents, the result is a bewitching oriental amber fragrance! 8/10

This is a warm, cozy smell that works surprisingly well in the summer despite how sweet it is on my skin. It starts of as very much a tonka scent, as the notes say, but stays as a soft benzoin for ages after the dry down. And, for what it's worth, it's gotten me a few compliments from a wide range of people (20s-60s, romantic partner to family).

Ordered a 30 ml bottle after You tube reviewer The Scented talked so nicely about it. This is warm and cosy, a perfect winter time fragrance, also very suitable for the holiday season. Very affordable EdP that lasts long time on my skin. I was happy to find a gem like this from Yves Rocher, where my journey to the perfume land started!

This is my first Yves Rocher purchase, and a blind one at that. All I can say is wow benzoin! It's reminiscent of Black Opium, Scandal type perfumes but much more subtle. The performance is just as good if not better. Nothing unique but I'm just amazed at the value.

Oddly enough, I think the sample was less Amber forward and more unisex, but I believe this is a really good fragrance to mix with - especially any musky (not necessarily anything too warm, this is warm enough) or something fruity like cherry or apple even.

Just test side by side with Burberry Her Intense both of them are benzoin bombs. This is equally as nice and long lasting. The very nice light bottle reminds me of the early years The Body Shop perfume packages. A+++++

I'll say this first: This is a real bomb of benzoin. What everyone calls vanilla is actually the note of benzoin dominating this fragrance. Tonka bean is there, too, but most of all it's all about the benzoin.

This is a feminine scent. Great quality. It is sweet and amber. Something to wear at night. Longwearing. This is a classy and mature.

Sable Fauve can be interpreted as a dupe for MFK Grand Soir that is watered down (minus the herbal opening & smokyness).

not a fan of tonka as main note, but this is very light and well blended, got lots of compliments when I wear it 😍

One word to describe this fragrance: underrated

I agree with Viktozin. When you smell this, your mind instantly goes to patchouli. It smells nice, but you have to love earthy & resinous fragrances. This is a sweetened amber frag, not truly sweet or gourmand. Though I do see many people smell the tonka bean a lot and say this is gourmand. I think it really must depend on batch because mine is from around 2022 and I don't really smell the tonka bean; it's very much hidden underneath the benzoin & cistus. The main note I smell is the benzoin. This fragrance is inspired by warm sunsets & lands in Africa I believe. I think that's what it said on the box that I no longer have. Sable Fauve translates to tawn sand. Once you understand the inspiration, you understand the fragrance. It's nice, versatile & 100% unisex. You can wear it year round. It's not offensive. It lasted for me about 4 hrs, with first 2 hours strong projection then dissipates quick. This fragrance did garner me some compliments so I think smells nice in the air too. Thanks for reading 😚

Very pretty benzoin fragrance with some light gourmand undertones, I think it has a little bit of ethyl-maltol and patchouli as well. It doesn't remind me of my beloved Nature Millénaire as it doesn't contain any cedar, however I do smell a similarity with Voile d'Ambre and also the So Elixir line. But sadly, this is much weaker than Voile d'Ambre, and seems to have been designed as a watered down version of it mixed with Prada Candy, so I'd recommend Voile d'Ambre rather than Sable Fauve.

Just got a full 3.4 oz spray of this without a box for under $25 on Mercari---just looked at the notes and now wondering if I am hallucinating--I could swear I smell both vanilla and coffee in this scent. I have a load of B&B Works Midnight Amber Glow bath products that will work perfectly with this. Strictly fall/winter for me but this kind of fragrance pleases me more now that I am older. Like YR's Ispahan and Autour De Minuet--this is gonna have big sillage on me!!

A sweet perfume. Beautiful. Soft. Very nice. Feminine mostly, hardly unisex. Sweet flower. Willow. Silk paper. Warm. Liqueur-glow + willow-brances or smelling a tree surface in forest. Not heavy at all. Quite soft. For day or night. The perfume fades to skin scent quite quickly. A sensitive person smelled it after a couple of hours in distance 1/2 arm-length. P.S. The "liqueur-glow" may have increased after 7 months. Suggest to use the bottle in that time.

I really love this scent but it's gone way too quickly. It is summery warm and sweet. I tried three of this line of scents and although I enjoy how gourmand this is, it is gone without a trace within an hour, which makes it not as good of a value. I did not think this smelled of vanilla so I was happy to see it is benzoin that I am picking up (new smell to me). I also got the tonka. If not so watered down it would be great instead of ok.

It's difficult to find a fragrance for nighttime within spring and summer days (without having fragrance that reminds of cold weathers), luckily I found this one quite fitting! As the bottle describes, it manifests a mysterious duskily aura that fits for every person who wears this in the summer days under the moon! It also gives a luxurious vibe that fits for festive occasions! Just wished it lasted longer on my skin.

Beautiful and minimalistic amber fragrance with hints of fruitiness and a delicate sweetness overall. Very beautiful and great for layering and ground more fun and/or "juvenile" fragrances but I realized that as much as I like amber, I'm not so crazy about it to the point I crave a fragrance smelling like it's 90% amber. Projection and longevity are good. Actually, it can remain on clothes for days and days.

This is good ! It starts off a little fruity but quickly becomes a beautiful ambery cocoa gourmand. It’s very mellow and very agreeable to wear. I can see it being great in any season, I find it to be very versatile and am wearing it now that it’s getting warmer. Not similar to black opium at all to my nose. Overall a very interesting fragrance for the price and a safe blind buy !

I do not get Black Opium from this at all. Fortunate, as I’m not a fan of BO. This is a light, dry, sweet resin. The tonka is just hinted at, and labdanum is the star. It’s a comforting fragrance. Cologne strength, as are most Yves Rocher. This is unisex, probably best for the under 25 crowd.

Smells a lot like Black Opium but while BO is a more of a going out scent, this one is for the days you want a cozy evening at home. The difference is minor and honestly you don't need both.

Tonka bean, vanilla and something foral are the scents that I get. It's a nice blend! It doesn't smell super sophisticated. You can wear it casually. It's wonderful in a cold, wet climate!

I like this. Ambery vanilla. I like layering this with Voile d’Ocre. Quite nice for a cheapie. Scent: 8/10 Projection: 7/10 Longevity: 6/10

this is basically a very weakened version of Cavalli ́s Florence which I love so it was a successful blind bought

It's really sweet, opens on it really strongly. Layers well with oud and amber.

On paper it looked good; amber, vanilla, warm spicy... simple but effective. In reality, it's rather disappointing. The perfume has no strength, has no "heart" so to speak, it is very dull, bland. I wouldn't go so far as to say it smells bad but it's not "enough". It is also much too sweet. Rare are the times I manage to smell the amber scent; most of the time all I smell is sugar. What a pity. No staying power, no sillage (at least on my skin), in short, I'm going to finish it anyway but rather for vacations or weekends, when I don't see many people. N.B : No Black Opium or coffee at all for me (fortunately because I hate coffee).

Even though the notes are completely different, this smells EXACTLY like Flowerbomb to me. I even asked my mum if I was going crazy, but she agreed. So I guess if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Flowerbomb, this would be a great option. If you're expecting an amber-y oriental fragrance, definitely sample it first. Personally, I don't get much amber at all. It's marketed towards both men and women, but I think it's a very feminine fragrance. It's sugary sweet, and lasts a decent amount of time.

It reminds me a lot of "So Elixir Bois Sensuel"( also from yes frocher), though this feeling is fleeting. Less rich, less longevity, less sillage, less everything... So Elixir Bois Sensuel, but bad. If you already have So Elixir Bois Sensuel, this one is useless. This range lauched in 2019 is "annoying me". Why lauching 10 "meh" perfumes at once, instead of lauching 1 or 2 excellent ? The good days are gone for Yves Rocher. Thinking of this. I may buy all 3 So Elixir before they discontinue them.

On my skin this perfume is extremely sweet and all I got from start to finish is an overdose of vanilla. On fabric it smells different, less sweet, more warm spicey. Much better! But on both accounts: nothing fresh about it as lacemylove discribes, onfortunately. Longevity: Too good! Even after a shower it was very present. Sillage: Not overwelming but not private either.

Not for me at all. When my partner turned around to me and ask “ are you wearing black opium”.I Was absolutely certain it was not for me, and then, when I try to wash it off, still got wiffs of it . ( when I first sprayed it it was a lot less powdery and smelled quite edible) shame about the dry down

100% not smelling like Black Opium! Not a single is similar. Who voted this? I smelled it in person and it has that awful benzoin note that reminds you of bad breath and whatnot. Yuck.

One of the best scents from this YR new line, warm, spicy, comforting. A scent that evokes scorching sun, golden dunes, dry wind and desert. At least this is the image that instantly comes in my mind each time I smell it. The opening is a little bit medicinal, bitter sweet, but it fades in few minutes. I do get the benzoin, the tonka and something like fresh roasted coffee beans, which is pleasant and interesting. This is the beautiful part, the worse part is that this unique blend of notes fades into thin air in less than 2 hours, leaving an average sweet scent with a vague hint of coffee. I was so disappointed by its performance, especially because the first hour is very nice, therefore I wouldn't recommend it.

I Just got this perfume for my Birthday from yves rocher and i hoped it will smell like j'adore l'or but It.s smelling different, It remindse of Hugo boss alive intense but this one Has not rassberry Note, i smell some Fruit smell May be cherry, and in HB alive intense is more nice blended the Benzoin, here is so harsh at the Base. I find sable fauve being more sweeter and warm while HB alive intense is more fresher from vetiver and the sharp rassberry. I wore it today outside and i dont think it fits for very cold winter, May be it's moder detectable in Spring and fall although Benzoin Note it should be strong in Winter too.

Sable FAUVE has the same fresh undertone with all in this line which is supposed to make it unisex. I find it quite feminine though. And yes, it has some vibes similar to Nature Millenaire (I'm lucky to still own a couple of precious bottles). This is spicy and fresh at the same time and perfect for autumn and winter. The lasting power is quite good. Not worth the original price tag but fortunately YR has almost always some bargain campagne on. The whole line is a nice opening for a new season.

I was excited to try this one, as it is indicated as a spicy oriental. This one to me, is like a mix of YSL's Black Opium + Ellen Tracy's Love Notes. I smell something from Love Notes in this one, and I want to say it's an initial blast of patchouli? For the record, I DO NOT like patchouli! It does dry down to something very similar to Black Opium's scent. But the top notes are off-putting to me...I enjoyed sampling this one, but I would not purchase a bottle of this one!

I was not that impressed by this line from YR, and Sable Fauve was vaguely like something I had smelled before. I put them away, but with time on my hands I revisited each one to test them again. What you get from this is soothing benzoin and tonka bean. I’m drawn to those notes. Don’t expect amazing hours of longevity. What it gives you is enough time to enjoy it’s charm in 4-6 hours (maybe less). I spray it liberally and enjoy it. Cuir de Nuit is my favorite, though.

I love this fragrance. It's very decent, it smells more expensive than it is. I agree with the review that says that this smells like Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Grand Soir without the aromatic note. I love the way the tonka mellows the amber. This scent is a warm amber hug. To me it's comforting, not sickly sweet or ambery. It doesn't have a lot of development, but it's very smooth throughout.

First spritz......familiar type scent...?? IMO...does not smell like YSL Black Opium. As it developed on my skin..it went thru changes. I get benzoin/tonka ....supported by the labdanum. I am sensing amber as well. Oriental scent. The drydown is where this shines !!! EDIT: Well....at the dry down....this DOES resemble YSL Black Opium. 90%

Smells exactly like Black Opium (i own them both) Sable fauve stays hours on clothes and skin but doesn't project a lot, it's more of a skin scent I use it after i take my shower like a body mist Very delicious and sweet 🤤 Buy it only on discount, full price it's a bit expensive for the quality

OMG I love the bottles of the whole line. This one especially... I want to go on Safari in Afrika soooo badly. Unfortunately this specific smell is not exactly how I imagine that, I would add some more exotic spices and not stay on the safe side, but well... i want them all anyways:D

sable fauve opens with a warm embrace, but unfortunately VERY QUICKLY drys down to a full blown vanilla scent. it's okay but honestly was hoping for more amber. I am getting more of a super sweet vanilla on my skin than any amber. (may cause headaches for the wearer)

I am so sad. It is almost nothing, Ican't smell a thing, Just some watery Candy. No bezoin, no labdanum, nothing at all.
