Voile d'Ambre

This is one of my top 10 favourite perfumes of all time and I have many! I fell in love with this scent when I was little and got a little sample paper of it from my mom or from the shop or something. I loved this then so much, I had the paper in this one box that I had some stuff I treasured...And like 10 years later, which would be last year, I found that scent paper and it still smelled amazing and I checked what the name was on it and...then I ordered it. I was so happy it was still in production. Apparently it's one of their best selling scents. Some people have mentioned that this reminds them of Addict by Christian Dior. And I have to say as an Addict fan - it really does. Like 50 % of it. Mandarin leaf and mandarine orange from the top notes and the Sandalwood-Vanilla combo from the base. But this fragrance is 50 % amber and 50% other stuff. The scent is super addictive. It is sweet, sexy, luxurious, festive, rich, oriental...everything I look for in a perfume. I do love florals too and I would layer Voile d'Ambre with some floral or oriental floral scent. But it's also amazing on it own. Some people also mention Shalimar but I don't think has that much in common with that. I'm not a Shalimar fan, mainly because of the iris that is in it. But only thing Voile d'Ambre may have in common is the incensy vanilla. I hugely recommend this for anyone who loves Vanilla but also for anyone who loves amber. This scent is not love or hate, it's love or like. For me it's love. I secretly love that it's cheap but of course like anyone I want to say that I'm wearing something more expensive. And usually I do wear more expensive stuff but for the price this is a steal. I would pay closer to a 100 for this same scent. But I'm sure the ingredients are completely synthetic so that's why it is cheap. Aaanyway the scent opens with the Dior Addict styled Mandarin leaf, mandarine orange and Vanilla with unique cardamom and myrrh in the mix ! Loveliest openings ever... Soon the scent starts to get more and more ambery. I smell amber, ambergris and woods. Sandalwood compliments the amber greatly. I'm not sure if I smell any patchouli. But the oppoponax(amber) here is the greatest I have smelled in any amber perfume so far. The Vanilla is there all the time too but not overpoweringly. Some incense is present in the drydown with the amber but not too much, just a hint. Yves Rocher I guess doesn't get enough credit for their scents and stuff. From me either. But I have to say Voile d'Ambre and their Monoi oil and monoi-scents are one of the greatest scents in general on the market. I recommend this perfume a lot. I wish they would release a 100 ml bottle. They only have 30 and 50ml bottles of this. At least it's an eau de parfum. Bottle is nice looking but could be cooler and more expensive looking. 9/10

Just ordered my second bottle, and changed my vote from Like to Love. It is rare for me to finish a bottle, simply because I have so much perfume, but I went through this one in less than a year. Love-Love. Warm, ambery, smooth, just the right balance of silage and softness. Creates a golden halo that surrounds you with light and warmth. Neither too sweet, nor too basso profundo, as some ambers can go. The opening is not the strong suit, so wait a few minutes at least before sniffing. Very unusual scent, with unusual notes, but it works. Although this is a smoky, spicy oriental, it actually opens green and woody; bright, with a fleeting and light floral note. The mandarin orange really helps to balance this with a little sweet, honey note that brings some juice to what would otherwise be a dry, woody opening. I get more myrrh and patchouli than I do vanilla, making it less sweet, sexier, a more classic, mature amber than, say, Amber Romance. The amber in this one is closer to the Prada ambers, but I prefer this one, as it is smokier, with more incense. It is somewhat similar to L'Occitane Ambre, which I recently got from a wonderful Fragrantican (thanks again), but I have to say I do prefer Voile d'Ambre. I only recently realized I loved cardamom, when I kept seeing cardamom show up unexpectedly in perfumes I liked. The cardamom in this is not that minty, more sweet and resinous. It is interesting, because I know some folks see this as a farily linear, one-note fragrance, but on me it seems to develop nicely over about 4-6 hours, wearing closer over time, but becoming lovelier as the hours pass, ending with a wonderful drydown that manages to be both cozy and homey at the same time it is sexy and sultry. And that is a nice way to end the day.

(This review is for Eau de Perfume) VOILE D’AMBRE is a gorgeous and mysterious scent. The myrrh and incense represent the ancient times so well while the warm woods and vanilla make the combination soothing and comfortable. And of course the resins (opoponax) remind me of a beautiful amber stone and its origin. VOILE D’AMBRE is rich, smooth and well-balanced. The top notes are fresh burst of spicy citrus but it transforms immediately into the smooth and earthy resins with the spicy notes of cardamom. I love incense, myrrh and resins in the heart notes with their mysterious, dreamy and ancient vibe. The patchouli is quite noticeable but it is so harmonious with other notes that it does not appear too strong or overpowering. The dry down is very smooth with creamy vanilla, sandalwood and a touch of patchouli. VOILE D’AMBRE is rich and sophisticated scent but it floats like a graceful veil masterfully weaved by the perfect harmony of the notes. This perfume has calming effect on me. There is something about it that seems so soothing and relaxing. When I wear it I feel that the time stops and the stress and chaos of everyday life are replaced by a serenity and connection to the eternity. I absolutely love this scent and recommend it if you are looking for myrrh – incense – resins – vanilla combo.

This was a gift from my lovely sister in law,and turns out that she knows my appetite better than myself..I liked it from the first sniff but it grows on me and is such an addictive scent that now I looove it Yves rocher is not my favorite perfume brand,but it has some very high quality fragrances with reasonable price,which I really love to find..voile d'Ambre is one them for sure..actually this is my most favorite yves rocher It opens kind of fresh and citrusy,reminding Hermes merveilles amber,but middle and base notes reminds me shalimar's vanilla base,which I adore..actually it doesn't have other factors that I don't like in shalimars,just that soft,Smokey powdery vanilla which I find very cozy,charming and lovely Yves rocher voile d'ambre is not that ambery to my nose,it's a combination of spicy sweet amber,soft,smokey powdery vanilla,creamy sandalwood and some myrrh..thanks god patchouli doesn't standout.it's rich,opulent,powdery,sexy yet inoffensive,rounded,pleasant,soothing,kind of classic and very cost worthy.indeed I find it much better than similar expensive fragrances Longevity and sillage are great..it's a sillage monster on my skin,yet it has a softness and freshness that prevents it from becoming cloying ❤❤❤❤ P.s:it can pass as unisex IMO

Eventually I could buy a full bottle of this in a shopping mall where an Yves Rocher shop is still going! I happened to pass by there by chance, because I took a wrong road while driving to another place :-D I don't know why so many shops close down. It's not so cheap after all, but I really wanted it. I tested the EdT version from tester and I found it very pleasant, then I bought the EdP and when I got back to my car I started spraying! Mmmm, so nice! It's so warm and aromatic, yet not invading at all! I wouldn't call it a complex perfume. It smells more of a simple good ambery scent. Amber is not listed, but amber is often an effect created by other notes. Voile d'Ambre for me is a well-being, serene and warm fragrance for rainy cold days. I prefer to wear it during daytime, because my favourite fragrances for evening going out are much more sophisticated and layered. It's funny that someone mentioned Samsara. That was my long long time never forgotten love! I don't wear it now due to memories and re-formulation. I see some similarities indeed, but Voile d'Ambre smells like a fraction of glorious Samsara. Staying power is good, sillage is average. In spite of being warm and aromatic, also powdery, it never screams your presence from km.

Hello everybody Every year at the beginning of autumn, when the trees are preparing for their last show of the year, I bring out Voile d'ambre and I celebrate the spectacular show of nature with this fragrance. Voile d'ambre for me is the perfect fragrance for this time of year, it has that gentle warmth of the autumn sun and the trees enchant us with a magnificent display of colours while the dead leaves gently dancing in the wind. In French it goes like this: "Les feuilles mortes dansent dans le vent de l'automne." Anyway, this is what I experience when I wear this fragrance - my favourite time of the year. Voile d'ambre is warm and soft and feels like a gentle hug. The juiciness and hint of citrus from the mandarin linger quite a while in this fragrance and every so often it peeps out in between the warm opoponax and myrrhe which results in a festive vibe. The whole thing is very gentle and has the perfect balance between warm, soft and sweet. The dry down is beautiful, creamy and ambery with a sprinkle of smokiness from the incense. I have been using this fragrance every autumn for the last 8 years and to me there is no better fragrance that brings to mind the perfect depiction of the wonderful display of nature at this time of year.

I received the beautiful bottle a few days ago as a blind buy inspired by your reviews. Sniffing the cap I told myself I got it wrong with this one as I got a first impression of an outdated perfume. Then I sprayed twice after the shower. Wonder! Strong mandarin and resin notes filled the room for 10 minutes. In the drydown the myrrh, the sandal wood, a faint note of smoked cardammom revealed themselves bold but elegant. This phase lasts about two hours, later a cosy cloud of lightly sweet amber and fine vanilla surrounds me for about 3-4 hours. After 8 hours I can still smell lightly sweet vanillated sandal wood and myrrh and some yellow wild flower - maybe dandelion. Sillage is quite good for about 4 hours. I have been using this perfume almost every day since I've got it. I can't get enough of it and I actually get the feeling it's different on different body parts (neck, arms, upper body). The finely combined natural ingredients make it a quality scent and I understand the Fi-fi Award. I am a young but fine nose and I am looking forward to trying other amber perfumes soon. I find Voile d'ambre extremely sensual in the most innocent and elegant way! I love it! Thank you for your wonderful reviews!

Rocher Voile d'Ambre - veil of amber. I love creatively descriptive names and this one is perfect - a subtle veil-like amber. There is nothing unusual or particularly original here, just a well judged blend of high quality ingredients at a reasonable price, presented in an elegantly simple bottle. Voile d'Ambre has an interesting top note of petitgrain (orange leaf and twig) and myrtle that starts the scent off with a sort of camphoraceous herbal citrus peel note. If you love this perfume only for the ambery middle-base, this top note may be a bit jarring, but to me it is the gong that welcomes the veiled beauty to the entrance hall. The top note gradually fades over the first hour or two, leaving an elegant ambery veil that is fairly linear and lasts and lasts. The resiny amber note is soft and deft and just barely sweet. You could wear this anywhere except perhaps for an outdoorsy day - this is an elegant indoor scent, a scent for a quiet gathering or fine dining or languishing with your lover.

review based on Le Parfum version I tried the normal version when it launched, it left me a faint impression of some sexy animalic feeling in the drydown. I thought it would be good so later I bought Le Parfum version, but found it is a different one, and goes sour on me - vanilla always goes wrong on me. So I put it in my closet for 2 years or maybe more, and last winter when I picked it again, either my skin changed or the scent got evoled itself, it's just surprisingly briliant. I got a very brief resin like anise opening, giving the whole scent a wonderful glittering finish, like the varnish coated on the surface of wood furniture. When the anise faded, resin feel still continued and brings the warm body notes. The spice and sweet balanced well, so warm and tender that makes me feel wrapping myself in some fur coat or raw cotton piles, this maybe the balmy feeling lots people mentioned. the lasting power is great as well, now it's my fav winter scent

Voile d'Ambre is simply the best perfume for its price. Ridiculously high quality, for such a low price. It's a soft, cozy, beautiful oriental perfume. Its main notes are the incenses and myrrhs, also vanilla. It's sweet and velvety. It's a pure delight to smell it, and to own it: I'm a man, and I would definitely buy it, one day, since I find it very unisex. It starts out pungent and strong, but it quickly melts down in a beautiful, yet, always present perfume. With that said, its longevity is excellent and its sillage moderate-high. I find it very creamy, ambery and oriental It's very refined, classy, no one would ever say this is a Yves Rocher perfume, truly. The bottle is high quality, very well design, beautiful. Such a gem, for this price, who wouldn't like it? I would. And I'm certain many persons would, too. I have very high expectations for all the "Secrets d'Essences" line, since this is the only one I've smelled. Thank you Yves Rocher :)

Extremely sexy scent. Definitely reminiscent of Calvin Klein's Obsession as many others below me have noted! Although I will say that it's lacking that sickening fake civet note that the reformulated Obsession has. This is a good thing! I actually loved the vintage Obsession, so in a way this gives me the feeling of the original before it was ruined. Also a very good thing. It's still vaguely animalic. Smoky, spicy, a bit woodsy. The dry down is truly sensual. The vanilla note is most prominent during this time, yum. This stuff lasts and lasts. I've had it on 6 hours and can still smell it! It's a cold Spring day so I thought it would be safe to try it. I would absolutely wear this in the winter. It makes me feel warm and cozy, like I'm sipping a fine cognac by the fire. Great job Yves Rocher! Now, if we can just convince them not to discontinue it. Oh, I hope they don't...and the bottle is simply elegant and gorgeous!

What a pleasant surprise!! I got this little gem in a swap, and had never tried it before, but was impressed by the notes. I decided to plunge right in, and wear it, without even testing it. The opening is almost bitter, but a fresh type of bitter, I suppose this may be the mandarin leaf note). Then a sort of mild sweetness comes through, crisp, and then the incense starts to shine through. The sweetness dies down, blending ever so well with the base notes. The patchouli is just the right amount, blending with a fabulous sandalwood and vanilla. It has a wonderful warm, and comfortable feel to it. It has quite good sillage, and the staying power is modest, but this is not unusual for my skin chemistry. I do prefer heavier orientals! Some may find it strong, but it must be tried to judge. All in all, I am impressed, and the balancing of the notes, really make this a wonderful fragrance, with a very nice dry down.

I love it I love it I love it The fact that the price is doubled in the only official distributor selling it in my country and despite that I still have it in my cart speaks volume How should I describe it, I love amber, like head over heel, but this is not just ambery fragrance. I don't know, just my love for it messed up my description maybe. But, it is herby spicy, syrupy, 'oomph', uplifting just the correct dose of sweetnes. I usually write a good top middle base notes. Except for some linear frags. But for this.. I just can't.. this is just the correct syrupy with a perfect drip of spices, and stuffed with the correct measured herb.. Not overwhelming, I wanna say light but it is not as it is sweet But, this is just the correct syrupy even capable on lifting my mood on such a very hot humid day I'm sorry I'm very biased with this one.. As much as I can be very biased in Neroli Secret d'essences one

Many ambers are really warm and heavy, which can be wonderful if you're in the mood for that. Voile d'Ambre is an amber for the days you are not. Of course it's a warm and resinous scent (do cold ambers even exist?), but it's so dry and yet transparent that it could easily be worn year round to almost any occasion. No hint of the thick and balmy texture that many other ambers have. There is a hint of vanillic sweetness in this, but it's not really a sweet scent. Some herbal and spicy notes balance it out without overwhelming the delicate composition. In the opening I clearly get the mandarin that makes this scent even more airy. All in all I find it cozy without ever becoming smothering. It's really a shame that Yves Rocher discontinued this unique fragrance. Get it while it's still affordable on ebay and other third party sites. I'm very glad I got my free bottle from YR in time.

There is SO much right about this fragrance! I remember the first time I wore it, I was reminded of a fuzzy bath robe and matching slippers. That's what this fragrance is to me; a warm hug! But interestingly, it works beautifully in the heat as well. I have used it for layering, but I really enjoy it most on its own. It's not super complex, but there is an overall complexity that stays throughout (sans much development) where you really can't put your finger on what it is. It's a bit dry and dusty, a bit sweet, a bit powdery, a bit spicy, a bit smoky. But it's not ONE of those things. It's ALL of those things. At the same time, and in roughly the same intensity. This is perfect for cool, rainy days (hopefully this will turn into just such a day), windy days (which we often get here), or any time you need to be wrapped up warm and snug! It's uncomplicated, but not common.

I've developed this unfortunate habit of falling in love with recently discontinued fragrances. This is such a lovely amber (without the literal amber "note"). It's got that crackly warmth I associate with amber; like a well loved record on a vintage turntable, cuddly and safe. It's balsamic, resinous, warm, softly sweet, and a bit herbal/earthy. I love all those adjectives, and I love this. I get the references to Shalimar as well. This doesn't take my breath away like Shalimar can--but I can see this being something I'd like to keep in frequent rotation (if it hadn't been so cruelly discontinued!) I imagine there are high end, expensive ambery orientals that I haven't sniffed that are sublime, but this is really, really nice and straightforward. It sits close to the skin, but sticks around--which is how I like my perfumes to perform. I will savor my little bottle.

I am now starting to appreciate Yves Rocher more and more. This house delivers excellent quality for more than reasonable price. For the record, Voile d'Ambre is beautiful. It took a while to grow on me, but I am glad I have given it time to unfold it`s gracious beauty. An understated, very well executed amber fragrance. I have never smelled opoponax so I am not sure about what it exactly smells like, but if it is actually as beautiful as in Voile d'Ambre, it could easily be one of my favourite notes. The drydown is my favourite part: ambery, slightly spicy vanilla with faint caramelish undertones. Just yummy, but not in a gourmand way. It is a pretty bold, long lasting fragrance with decent, pleasant sillage. What a steal for the price! After falling in love with Cocoon, Voile d'Ambre gets a "love" from me too, no doubt. Yves Rocher did it again. :)

I have owned this perfume for months, and didn't try it until I ran out of my last bottle of Shalimar. I'm almost upset that I waited this long. Being a longtime lover of Guerlain and Shalimar, it is almost shocking to me how much this resembles Shalimar. Blasphemy, I know, but the notes are similar, especially the balance of sweet citrus zest with incense. I think the drydown is quite different, Shalimar transforms into a well-done powdery mist, and settles into a mature, dark Vanilla. Voile d"Ambre doesn't have those transformations and complexities, but this doesn't bother me that much at all seeing as I love the way it opens. Longevity and sillage are slightly less than that of the Shalimar, but it is a beauty for the price. Would recommend for anyone looking for a cheap thrill and a Shalimar shaped hole in their heart.

Eventually I could test Voile d'Ambre in one of the left store in a shopping mall! I had high expectations about this... I really expected an enveloping scarf of raw but sweet amber... too high expectations! Voile d'Ambre is a very pleasant ambery scent with a good staying power, poor sillage and a lovely smell altogether, quite monodimensional, reminiscent of my beloved L'Eau d'Ambre, something I would wear very easily and enjoy it, still not HG! Strangely enough the note pyramid on the bottle showed no amber! I thought it a mistake in Fragrantica site! Well, it smells like amber or anything we think amber is. This could be worn alone or as a lovely base for light florals. I think it matches well with YR Rose Absolu. Price for EdP is not so cheap! When I'll finish my L'Eau d'ambre I will probably buy this one.

Mmm. Pretty. I received my sample today n I love Amber, it's my favorite note. I'm starting to think all Amber's are very much the same though. I have Ambre Passion by Laura Mercier and Ambre 114 by Histoires and Molinard Amber in the purple bottle. It's very possible that my nose isn't trained enough to pick up the differences but I feel like these 3 scent smell pretty much the same with 114 holding out the longest as far as longevity/sillage goes. I'd love some insight if someone with a better trained nose could provide it. Does anyone else feel the same? Is there an Amber I should try? EDIT: Ok, so this one is actually turning out a little different than the other Ambers. I smell a fruity and almost herbal scent blended in with a LOT of vanilla and powder. I really love this n wish it wasn't so expensive.
