Caftan

This is the first perfume I tried from the Vestiaire Collection because Caftan is my favorite garment, and it turned out it was my favorite fragrance of the collection as well. The first time I left without buying it, dismayed by the price (240 euros). However, I couldn't stop smelling my wrist or my jacket sleeve afterwards and it was always in my mind. Eventually, the price dropped dramatically, so I got myself a bottle as soon as I could. This smells like amber for the first half hour or so, but then the incense starts shining through and it becomes brighter and brighter as the time passes. After a couple of hours, it's straight incense and laudanum on me, comforting and yet sensual. Lasting power is great, over 12 hours and maybe more, but the sillage is very soft and no one until now has commented on it,a s if they don't notice it. I would prefer a bit more spice as it's perhaps too creamy for me, but then the incense is so yummy that it makes up for everything else. I expect to get much use of this one during the winter. Update: People notice it alright; they ask if I've been to a church recently :P The incense shines through, but TBH it's not a deterrent for me. 3 years later, it's still one of my favorite perfumes and one I wear when I need both confidence and comfort. I'd wear it more often if I wasn't afraid that I can't afford a re-buy.

Caftan is a decent frankincense scent, reminiscent of the incense burned at Catholic Mass. I love a good churchy incense note - as it evokes childhood memories, I find it deeply comforting as well as austerely beautiful. Bolstered by a fresh, citrus opening and rounded out by a sweet amber accord, the incense note in Caftan is satisfying and good-quality. Calice Becker is a perfumer I admire, and I am suitably impressed by her take on incense. Caftan is frankincense-heavy from initial spray, given a little lift by the citrus notes during its opening. It gets increasingly smoky as it develops, but never too much. As it develops, balsamic amber emerges, rounding out the incense. There is a slight woody-pine nuance, and smooth vanilla blends with the amber, adding sweetness. It becomes more resinous and dry as it dries down, fading to a musky amber skin scent, with the incense lingering until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. A reasonably simple but well-composed incense-dominant scent, Caftan is high-quality and deeply pleasant throughout. Perfectly unisex, it is best worn in autumn/winter. It just isn't as special as Armani Privé Bois d'Encens, and I can't justify two incense perfumes at this price point in my collection. Still, for what it is, really good stuff. 4/5.

Please, ignore the negative comments, you need to try it by yourself. I was a bit reductant buying it due to the reviews on this platform. I am very happy with this purchase, it reminds a lot of a Designer perfume that I love, the discontinued Balmain Carbone. So this is like a dream come true, beautiful sillage and projection, crowdpleaser, very comforting and elegant, sexy. You get resins, benjoin in a very beautiful way, incense and that's enough to make Caftan, a nice scent. I myself am a 'nichehead' that loves complexity in perfumes, still I can appreciate this one a lot, among with MFK APOM homme that only uses 3 notes, amber cedar wood and orange blossom. YSL really scentified the feel of a Cashmere Caftan on the skin. It's classified as an oriental, it has some facets, but it stays loyal to French perfumery refinement, it's not too thick and dark compared to the OG oriental ambers. If you can get It for a discounted price, don't pass on this one, for those complaining about the price, ysl had to position this line amongs Dior's Collection Privée offerings, pricing has to be in the same range. 8/10. EDIT: Lasts and projects very well for an edp.

This was a blind buy as they only had one bottle at my local outlet when I stopped in. It was just in the price range for me to take the risk and I'm so glad I did as this is one gorgeous fragrance, probably in my top 5 of all time. For me it hits all the right notes: incensey, ambery, woody, spicy...all in a very subtle and elegant way. In short, this smells like money...old money. I wouldn't call this rich or decadent as this runs more on the soft and evasive side. I usually like my fragrance to pack a serious punch and this one does not, but I do not think this is a bad thing as this is meant to be classy and soft. I do feel I need at least 5 sprays to make me experience this to full effect. But when it settles, this is absolutely beautiful. For anyone who enjoys a fragrance with wood, spice or incense, then this is a must. The tangerine gives this a very light transparent sweetness that does not even read fruity or citrus at all. The musk lightly holds everything together and coats it with a soft fuzzy haze. Words can not describe how beautiful this is, go splurge on a bottle, you will not regret it for a second.

Ooooooh, this is delicious!! The reviewer a few comments below whose name is AprilSea said this perfectly! This is a perfume that exudes class and elegance and, might I add, a touch of sexy... (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) And I agree with their other statement that mentions temperatures. In cold weather, an aspect of fizziness emerges and adds to the beauty of this masterpiece. In warmer temps, you lose that and get more of a L’Air du désert Marrocain by Tauer...or a little more animalic, if you prefer. By the way, I looooooove L’Air du désert. But seriously, I’ve not encountered a scent that changes as the temperatures drop...it’s magical and mesmerizing to me 🤩🤩🤩 I do not smell the similarity between Caftan and Babycat. Caftan is smoky and fizzy (in the cold weather), whereas Babycat is vanillic and powdery perfection with a touch of smoke but waaaaaaay in the background. I’m gonna have to hunt down a full bottle of Caftan, it is a beautiful chameleon that I NEED in my life (^з^)-☆

I sampled the entire Vestiaire line at Neiman's in Dallas last weekend. They were pushing Tuxedo, but this one was easily my favorite. I loved it so much I went back and bought it the next day at retail price, which is extremely rare for me. I keep trying to find a reason to regret it, but I haven't found one. I wouldn't change a thing about it, which is also rare for me to say about a fragrance. It's one of those "where have you been all my life while I've been wearing these pedestrian ambers" type-deals. I have a sizeable collection, and this truly stands out. It's that wonderful. It's pricey, for certain, but it's a HUGE bottle (4.2oz). It's strong without overbearing and lasts without falling flat somewhere in the middle of its trek, even in the humid southern summer. It's perfect from start to finish. It's just as beautiful on the skin as it is on clothing. I can't wait to try this when it cools off, I suspect it will really shine for me in late autumn.

Ooh this is nice. Really, really like this one, and designer houses usually don't do it for me. Very warm, natural-smelling amber, incense, and spices. This melts into skin and just becomes this spicy, musky fantasma trailing behind you. I actually love the "pencil shaving" accord, it gives a nice dry, woody backbone to what otherwise might veer too sweet for me. I see the comparisons to Benjoin Boheme--similar vibe for sure-- but Caftan feels less dense and sticky. BB felt more resinous and sweet, chewy almost, and sometimes leaned cloying. Caftan wears like its name, light enrobing layers billowing gently around you. Don't mistake this for lack of performance though; Caftan is quietly tenacious and gives you a solid scent bubble. Bohemian, earthy, yet softly sweet and musky. Such a shame this was discontinued and is now listed for resale at outrageous prices (even more insane than standard YSL MSRP).

If I want a perfume that smells of churches and Catholic mass, I trust Sorcinelli. Contre Bombarde, Voix Humaine, they are right from a XVI-th century monastery. Or Carner Barcelona – Botafumeiro, the famous thurible in the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. If I want a balsamic amber, I take one of the several Serge Lutenses. If I want the spiciness of pepper and good roasted coffee, I grab Encens Suave – which is anything but suave. If I want a plumy, powdery one, I go to HdP 1889 Moulin Rouge or Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige. But if I want all the above, and more, to feel elegant, well dressed, classy and spectacular, as if dressed in a kaftan made of heavy silk brocade in the rich orange color named "honey baked quince", embroidered with gold threads, then I choose YSL Caftan. It needs cold weather to develop. Over 20 degrees Celsius, it loses its zing.

Huge huge like. Close to a love. As a fan of benzoin, labdanum, olibanum and everything incense in fragrance, this was a must try for me. Luckily, I was able to get a small 1ml sample dabber. The opening was not my favourite, as it mixed labdanum and tangerine/bergamot together. These notes created a very strange powdery, musky mess on my skin. However, once the opening transitioned into the drydown, I really enjoyed the leathery, Amber and resinous aspects this brought forward. The amber grows sweet by the benzoin and the cloud around me is beautiful. After 7 hours, (8am-4pm), I can still smell it radiating off my skin. This is quite a lovely fragrance, however Grand Soir will always be my favourite amber fragrance.

This is a masterpiece, unique and dearest to me. I stock every bottle I can put my hands on and adore her. As a galbanum worshipper I love being hit by a wave of galbanum, pink pepper and tangerine. Familiar feeling if you’ve smelled Yohji Yamamoto’s Yohji back at the day or Noir Gabardine from Laurent Mazzone. Then she warms up quick and dries down to a unique, chic and demure incensy, vanillic benjoin. Nothing compares to her and nothing ever will. She carries the very soul of Monsieur and the classic, timeless French chic imho. As an avid fan of Calice Becker’s signature, she mermerizes me even more as a composition. Her opus magnum, I dare to say. Gentle, demure, warm yet powerful and heady.

Caftan is a gorgeous, warm, resinous, spicy scent that melds deliciously with your skin. It's positively yummy. I feel fortunate to have found a gently-used bottle, but I would love to have a backup. I never want to be without it...it's THAT good. It shares a similar profile to its big sister Babycat, but without the added smokiness (at least to my nose). I think Caftan is an easier daytime wear, and Babycat is better reserved for evening. That said, I will certainly keep both in my collection. It's a shame this was discontinued. I assume YSL considers Babycat it's replacement? If anyone knows the backstory, I'd love to hear it.

Blind buy based on the description since I couldn’t sample It anywhere. Dense. Dark. Smoky and for on me - leathery. Smelled like some kind of a leather item that I used to have (almost like horse harness) with sweetness. I am a woman, and I think this leans more masculine, but i think it is a statement scent, and a woman can pull it off as well. Strong and powerful scent. The dry down, now three hours since the initial spray, is very soft and pleasant. I keep trying to catch the trail - it’s so very enjoyable. I am happy with the pick, but beware: not everyone’s cup of tea for a blind purchase

YSL had disappointed me when they discontinued their original exclusive line, as I loved Majestic Rose and Noble Leather. I didn't get a chance to try this until today and I'm rather impressed, which surprised me. Many newer YSL fragrances have made me sad because they didn't seem to represent the house as a whole but this does seem to be a return to the likes of Opium. Not unlike other things out there, but its a full bodied and quality scent. Rather spicy and resinous. Definitely not suitable for the warmer weather though, lol!

Love this stuff. I snagged one of those 3.5 ml glass cylinders, and am I happy some perfume sellers started making these so average people not worth a mint can enjoy these great scents, even if sparingly. It's everything I'm looking for in a great oriental/middle eastern scent: lush strong incense and none of it sweet or gooey. It lasts around 6 hours on my skin. I've been put off by so much of the stuff YSL has made in the last 10 years, but Caftan is fabulous.

This is my JAM! Hands down, my favorite YSL fragrance. This is super high quality. Benzoin LEAPS from my skin, and is seductive and alluring. The incense is magical! Magnetic caps tend to win my favor, as well. Absolutely stunning, and a top 10 for life. Top 2 for Winter fragrances. I can't say enough good things about it. If you don't like it at first, give it a few more wearings. It will win you over, if your nose is developed.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Wonderfully resinous, spicy, smokily vanillic amber that persists and has an incredible sillage, yet is so light it sits around you like a golden hologram. Incredibly classy and restrained but ever so present. A huge compliment getter for me at work. This whole line has wonderful scents with incredible presence. A keeper and on the “for life” bucket for me 😍

Super yummy scent with delicious vanilla, spices, amber, and incense. Fantastic longevity and nice silage. This is addictive. Every time I get a waft of it I find myself inhaling in deep satisfaction. This is a very refined Oriental where the spices are not an assault on the senses. Love it!

This perfume calms me down. I take a deep breath and continue with my life. Frankincense smelling perfumes does that to me. The smell keeps reappearing during the day and with every move.. it's not overwhelming and I can easily wear it during summer.

Magnificent,so voluptions benzoin and balanced soft incense,indentical to Filippo Sorcinelli-LAVS:),the same two main layers,balsam incense end intoxicating coghac benzoin ...exquisite,captivating...:)
