Cuir Sublime Oud

So, I fell head-over-heels in love with the 2023 version of Cuir and had a few friends who were equally smitten with it when I wore sample sprays. After deciding it was the time to buy, I noticed the 2025 / Oud Sublime version had replaced it in most retail settings, but the reviews here largely said they're identical. I have had it a couple weeks now, and have done a side-by-side. I'm not the most studied fragrance fan out there, but the open is 99.9% identical to me. I had to really hunt for the difference. Now, the dry-down is a bit different and I find it to be a masterful revision. Let me explain: I've tested a LOT of leather-forward fragrances and have worked with and own plenty of types of leathers. I describe the difference as the older variant pinging my brain about more of a stiff calfskin or vachetta, with just that hint of sharp tannery / raw hide vibe, while the new one leans more toward a lambskin glove after the first wear, as it warms up and you get that waft of softer and more supple new leather smell. Why do I call this masterful? The audience! Those sharper notes don't land well with everyone, as they're akin to an acquired taste. But, think about how many people will bury their face in a new, soft leather jacket and inhale. Cuir Sublime Oud makes a subtle tweak, keeping everything I loved most about its predecessor, while making it more attractive to those in the room. For its price & single, large size (4.2oz), it's got to be a real winner, and I feel YSL has delivered the most enticing leather fragrance on market!

I can confirm that its the same perfume as 2023 version Cuir! Exactly the same, nuclear superb leathr with smoky facets and ozonic! Also, fragrantica staff, keep in mind the perfumer hasn t change, its the same Fabrice Pellegrin! So give him the credit he deserves!

Happy to report that this smells exactly the same with the previous release. A little less loud but still great longevity.

It's a nice leather fragrance with strong performance i get 12 hours on my skin and 24+ hours on my clothes but i ask a simple question:WHERE'S THE OUD 8.8/10

It's quite similar, yes, but it's distinct enough to tell them apart without tryharding too much. 2023 leans more purplish/violet-forward if you will and also had some saffron undertone which is absent in the new one, as revealed per 2025's note breakdown and the absence of the Crocus Sativus flower extract ingredient. Also note there is no Cinnamal in the new one, that one is tied to the amplified flowery/aldehydic undertones of 2023. Have yet to buy and study the new one in detail, but my overall experience owning 2023 and a one-shot sampling of 2025 + the key details above can be resumed as: 2023 has a punchier violet leaf opening à la Fahrenheit (vintage) with green/raw nuances and slightly better performance overall, and the dry down of both is probably the "same". This Sublime Oud Leather, is it the same as the 2023 Leather? Yes and no, according to the saleswoman at Yves Saint Laurent, yes, the juice is identical. In practice, no, it is a more opulent, warm, and assertive version. Opening: a strong leather, you can smell the smoky oud, all very controlled. A very nice contrast that continues afterward; the violet here works in the background, bringing a powdery aspect and softening the leather without stifling it. Then the oud merges with the leather while the violet continues to add its touch. The composition becomes warmer, less dry, and slightly smoky. The contrast perfectly matches YSL's DNA: rebellious yet sophisticated. The dry-down is even warmer; you find yourself in a dry, deep, and enveloping leather. The subtle and mastered contrasts reveal the complexity of this fragrance. For anyone looking for a complex perfume with character around pronounced notes, Sublime Oud Leather has won me over. Its main flaw remains the price, clearly overvalued despite impeccable quality. The marketing around "oud Assafi" borders on exaggeration, whereas this perfume stands on its own and reveals all its richness on the skin. Regarding longevity and sillage, they are worthy of leather and oud, while remaining subtle and never ostentatious. Again, the contrast between power and sophistication works perfectly.

Exact same notes of YSL Cuir (2023) which are leather, oud Assam and violet leaf. Identical scent profile as well, where the opening has that animalic dark majestic aura but then the violet leaf takes over everything. Detailed video review on my YT ▶️

Fahrenheit did it first, 90%+ similarity to my nose. If you like Fahrenheit there is a good chance you will enjoy this one too. Strong projection
