I held off on buying this beautiful fragrance for months because every youtube video and review all parroted the obvious *fact* that it had terrible performance due to years and years of irresponsible reformulations. There are several youtube videos comparing the smell and longevity of LNDL over the course of a decade and the videos all found that they farther back the bottle was made, the darker and stronger it was and the longer it lasted. It is still treated as fact that YSL is a greedy awful company who is watering down their product over the years to sell more bottles and save money. Even though it would be terrible business to alienate your loyal customers and the costs of perfume oils and raw ingredients are marginal to the overall cost of a fragrance. Out of curiousity I looked at old reviews of LNDL that are on this website and I found the following comments: It certainly lasts longer than L'Homme but still not more than about 4 hours (unless you spray lavishly but which makes it too sweet) -04/18/2009 3 hours of good sillage then close to the skin -09/19/2012 I like the base note, but it's weak as water -2/26/2013 Smells good, but nobody notices I am wearing it. -2/24/2013 Smells wonderful straight from go, gets better as it drys, doesnt last long though. -2/17/2013 Lasts about 2-3 hours on my skin. -10/01/2014 It has the basic vibe of the original though more generic and so much weaker that I wish I didn't go through my old bottles so quickly. The original scent also projected more. The sillage was better as well. So it is very safe to say that reformulations have ruined the performance of this once beastly fragrance. -09/06/2015 This was never a beast mode fragrance and performance has always been fairly weak to moderate longevity. Well why do youtubers say the older bottles lasted longer? Because they do? What? Let me introduce you to a new word: Maceration - The aging of chemical compounds. All perfumes will change in smell overtime, often becoming denser as the lighter top notes like citrisus and bergamot burn off, alcohol is slowly evaporated, and basenotes combine becoming stronger. The back of all your fragrance boxes has a number (usually 36 to 48) which is the number of months until the scent starts to change significantly. The Creed Aventus message boards all harp on how old bottles of aventus were darker and smokier and longer lasting and all the new ones are much brighter and weaker. The comments from 2016 all say they wish they had stocked up on the 2012 holy grail batches, the 2017 threads all wish theirs performed like the 2015 holy grail batches and the new 2020/2021 wish they had more of the 2016/2017 batches. It's all the same juice. It might be reformulated slightly to be in compliance with EU regulations but it's all essentially the same. The point of this long post is I'm trying to say that the reformulation police are mostly a bunch of morons who have no idea what they are talking about. Almost every fragrance is accused of reformulation that has made it weaker and killed performance. These companies aren't stupid, these frangrances are multimillion dollar businesses and subjected to stringent quality testing and extremely precise material inspection and mixing standards. This is an incredibly beautiful fragrance, performance is just okay.

I am on my second bottle of this masterpiece and will be buying more in the future, in one month I used 15ml of this and already planning to buy a 200ML bottle. Smells like a rainy forest very natural and bright it's a 10/10. The performance is the only problem of this fragrance its abysmal, no matter how many times you spray it, it will go away after a hour if your lucky because sometimes it doesn't even last 10 minutes before becoming a skin scent that you can barely smell, and it doesn't even last long as a skin scent. I've read and seen alot of people saying how the "oLd bAtCheS hAd wAY bEtTeR pErfOrmAnCe" they didn't, this always had bad performance even my old 2015 or 17 batch idk which exact year it was but it was old, even that had bad performance, it's always been like that and it sucks. I will give up my life like kratos did in god of war to YSL if they made a separate version or just upgraded this and gave it good performance. Edit: holy shit 5 months after buying this masterpiece, it has aged like the most finest wine, in the most perfect temperatures, it turned into a more creamy powdery rainy fresh forest, it went from super sexy to idk a whole new level of sexy, this gives me feelings of love, every time I smell it I feel pressure, performance sadly still the same but, the smell went from a 10/10 to a 11 if this just had good performance even like 3-4 hours with good silliage would be the best fragrance ever made, I sprayed this like more than 10 times on my friend, we went outside on a cold windy night perfect temperatures for this fragrance, didn't even get a hint of it on my nose it was that bad, I walked behind him beside him, sat right next to him in a bus, absolutely nothing sadly. Might even get a dupe of this instead of a 200ml bottle just because how bad the performance is, I don't like dupes the only dupe I've seen of this has a different kind of smell, I heard it's more powdery but if it smells a tad bit similar but has performance that lasts 100% buying it.

I think it is the best fragrance ever because it is kinda-freshy, sexy, inviting, warm, mysterious, mass-appealing, and non-disturbing at the same time. It opens with the crisp and refreshing cardamom-bergamot opening and then dries down to warm, embracing, highly masculine, but not gymboy masculine, but like an elegant man. It is a highly mysterious, sexy scent. In the latest drydown, it becomes sweeter and earthier. However, especially the mid-drydown in which cedar-cardamom-lavender is active, cannot ever cloy anyone, just appeals like a magnet. The main idea is: it somehow combines a fresh/clean vibe with an extremely sexy/warm/mysterious profile. It is a dumb-reach, sexy magnet usable in 4 seasons. La Nuit de L'Homme has a unique type of sexiness. It is not loud and does not abuse sweetness or sharp spices to attract. Conversely, it is mostly a minimalistic fragrance. In the heart of the fragrance, what you actually smell is the somewhat warm and ambery cardamom. However, it is supported with lavender and cedarwood, which gives the fresh and airy vibe, hindering the fragrance from becoming cloying. Also, there are hints of the peppery and earthy "mysterious" side in the background. In the later drydown, cardamom slowly disappears and what remains is the creamy, smooth almond/vanilla hint. Overall, this fragrance radiates confidence and mystery. It invites you closer with its warm embrace; however, it is different from sweet-gourmands, it warns you that you are approaching a man who is important and aware of his importance. Its projection is low on purpose, that man does not need attention, you need his attention. He states that you need to come closer to smell my intoxicating smell. In short, this fragrance is born from a paradox: an elegant man who smells clean and fresh while he is the sexiest smelling man in the room too. It is the combination of cold and hot, fresh and sexy.

Once again, people are conflating sillage/projection with longevity. Almost every fragrance on this site, people cry "this barely lasts more than a few hours, blah blah blah". Literally every frag in my small collection you can find reviews complaining about longevity and yet, each one lasts all day on me. So here we go, no, this doesnt project. But I put 4 sprays on my neck around 6:30am before work, and 10 hours later I am at home on my couch and can still smell it on me. Once again, the claims about a fragrance "not lasting" are overblown. It seems like people think CDNIM level projection/longevity should be the norm. I used to own CDNIM and liked it, but I stopped wearing it because every time I did, someone made a comment about how strong it is. I dont want to be known as "cologne guy". I realized I'd much rather someone notice what I am wearing when they are up close, rather than smell me from a mile away. This fragrance smells incredible, you can wear it any time, any place and you wont offend anyone. And if someone happens to give you a hug hello, they will say how wonderful you smell.

One of my all time favourites and my signature scent during the earlier-mid 2010's. Not had it in my collection for a few years now though but recently decided to revisit with a fresh new 100ml bottle in all its glory. Fresh out of the box, all the happy memories came flooding back with that instantly recognizeable Lavender-Cardamom but my joy was short lived when I noticed how 'thin' this scent has become. The deep, sultry, spiciness of the early formulation is now just an apologetic whisper. I ended up spraying about 10 sprays to try and get some performance but still found that after 2-3 hours it has basically gone. I understand the protection of profit lines can force some tough decisions but to quietly destroy one of the finest, most revered and commercially popular scents of all time is just inexcusable. I am genuinely gutted that this titan has fallen. Sorry, Yves Saint Laurent - you have lost a loyal fan here. I will be seeking high performing 'alternatives' in the future.

I adore this scent. Smell(ed) absolutely wonderful and has been my daily since I first started wearing it 7 years ago. Must have been reformulated recently-- I was running out of my bottle from maybe a year and a half ago and stopped by a duty free to grab another. Found the oil to be a bit more yellow, and didn't smell the same. A bit harsher on the opening, and less rich or deep on the dry down. Not necessarily terrible or worse, though I definitely preferred my older bottle. Though true that I am now quite nose blind to it after years of use, it has never had any real longevity nor projection since I started wearing it (except on hot days), and honestly loses more and more strength every time YSL reformulates it. Sidenote- the moderate projection makes it super every-day wearable, (barring super warm or humid days and nights), unlike some other comparable fragrances that tend to overwhelm those around you. All in all, I still love this fragrance, honestly a top 5 OAT for men.

I agree with Helloooneuman, I had no issues with performance (especially longevity) with this fragrance on my skin at least. And I would add that not everyone likes a room filler, it's obnoxious and stereotypical to assume everyone within 10-15 feet of you need to smell YOUR fragrance regardless whether they like it or not. It's a very juvenile thought process and similar to a owning a 1995 honda accord with a state of the art subwoofer sound system blasting your shitty music and causing a mini earthquake to all buildings within a 3 block radius. Maybe it's just me, but I think fragrances should be personal, attached to your character and pleasantly discovered, not causing sneezing fits and rolling eyes whenever you walk by. LNDH is not a weak fragrance by any means, it's a solid 2 footer with consistent sillage. It's sensual, cozy and warm fragrance profile, the one you wear with that special someone in a nice sexy dinner. It's not a "bro" cologne.

This was the first fragrance I bought myself in high school in 2014 after going online and searching for popular and highly rated fragrances. I absolutely loved it from the beginning and my love for fragrance was sparked. Since then exploring niche fragrance has become a hobby so I buy decants and go to the mall and try to get my nose on everything lol. I’ve come to realize vintage La nuit de Lhomme is truly something special. However the newer bottles seem to have lost that magic and smell more fresh, powdery, and just more basic. My 2014 la nuit de lhomme has average performance (lasts 5 hours) but smells incredibly good. 9.5/10. Vintage la nuit smells cardamom spicey, soapy, woody, sexy. The current batches I would give a 8.25/10. I will not be buying newer batches when my vintage bottle runs out. I sold my new bottle and went online and purchased a vintage bottle from eBay which was more than double the price but worth it to me :)

First time I smelt this It was a dupe from a local decant shop, I immediately thought that now I must buy the original, I showed it to my cousin, 10 seconds later since it was still daytime he says, I NEED TO BUY THIS NOW, so we went to our local perfume shop and he got it. I cant tell you how many times people have complimented me on it and asked me what Im wearing. Even tho this fragrance was reformulated many times as of 2026 it is and always will be my favorite fragrance of all time without any doubt. Ive smellt and used hundreds and hundreds of different perfumes but YSL La nuit de l homme will always be the best smelling sexiest fragrance ever for me even 17 years after its release it is as perfect as its ever been, I tried all the flankers but none can come close to the original version. PURE PERFECTION IN A BOTTLE, as one of girl said to me, you smell like sex that walks :)

A true timeless legend. This is a classic men’s fragrance that has been loved by many for years. The scent is truly beautiful, but because it feels so special, I don’t really see it as an everyday fragrance. That’s probably why it’s often mentioned as being more suitable for special occasions or dates. Like many fragrances, it has received too much criticism about performance. However, this scent was never meant to be loud, room-filling, or to leave a massive trail. Instead, it stays close to the skin and feels very elegant. That’s exactly why it works so well for special moments. It doesn’t scream; after about 30 minutes, it blends nicely with the skin and becomes very smooth. In my opinion, it’s better suited for people over 30. Better suited for fall and winter. True to its name best worn at night. A masterpiece that will always have a place in my collection.

Absolutely brilliant. I want to eat myself. My signature fragrance starting today. It smells very cozy, chill, a bit sensual and slightly sweet in the lower end (nostalgic, as if tutti fruttii.) On my skin is not that spicy, which is fine. It smells like my personality, which works anytime. Night and day, winter or summer. I recommend it for men who are chill. I don't see this working on people like ishowspeed. I am very happy it does not have any alcoholic notes, not even at the start. I highly recommend to try it out on your skin though. For me it was a blind buy that was certainly worth it. Downsides: Terrible projection (I don't mind, as I like subtlety) Doesn't last very long. 2 hours at best. Early apply smells like common deodorant. (Only for a minute)

I have a 2011 batch, and you are paying a pretty penny for it if you want the good years. Though mine is considered one of the desired years it still is and was never a room filling "beast mode" fragrance. The scent is really nice. 4-5 sprays and you'll be noticed if someone is sitting next to you for a few hours, but it won't fill the room. The price definitely doesn't justify this cologne, and I would never go out of my way to buy a new bottle that doesn't last. I will say I do love smelling this on myself. In my opinion it is Dior Homme intenses older brother without that lipstick scent. It is more for winter but light enough to wear year-round.

Buried at the edge of the woods. Where the ground is cold, and the river keeps flowing as if nothing ever happened. It doesn’t smell like love. It doesn’t smell like mystery. It smells like danger that learned good manners. Like a monster that doesn’t scream, but politely asks if you need help.

I remember my dad entering the house and I'd run to him jumping to hug him and this scent was his best friend, as soon as I smelled this I'd immediately start looking for him. Growing up I stopped smelling it as much but as I was snooping through his closet I found an empty bottle and put it up to my nose I felt all the nostalgia rushing in my mind. Absolutely beautiful clean masculine scent, if your a man who likes to club this fragrance is a head turner, as a man if I smelled this in a club I'd search for you just to compliment you about it. Not super blind buy safe I can see some who wouldn't like it

Man, I absolutely love this scent. It’s just so good I can’t get enough of it. It’s spicy and woody with a strong cardamom note and a slight, beautiful sweetness. It could have been a bit more sophisticated in my opinion, but it’s a designer fragrance so I can’t really complain. One important thing though: the performance isn’t great. On my skin it lasts about 2 hours max, and even then it stays very intimate and can only really be smelled up close. Final verdict: an immaculate smell. Very good for a designer scent overall, and I’d definitely recommend getting it.

One of those fragrances you have and love, then stupidly sell and then regret later. That’s me. Why did i get rid of this fragrance. This fragrance reminds me of Gris Charnel (one of my favorites) not because of the smell, but the vibe it gives off. sexy, comforting, warm, cozy, SEXY. you just smell so good and every woman you cuddle with will be intoxicated by your smell. 8.5/10, the longevity absolutely shreds the rating for this fragrance. if it lasted even 6 hours, it would be in the 9s. why couldn’t they just make this exact dna but stronger. why.

This is one of my all time favorites, I think it's versatile enough that it can be worn during hotter seasons and colder seasons. The smell reminds me specifically of Saigon cinnamon although there is no cinnamon in the fragrance. It smells similar to YSL L'Homme (the fragrance that this is based off) with a twist of fresh and woody. Definitely not heavy on the vetiver. The cedar really shines through and is holding hands with the lavender very well. It's a very nice sophisticated scent that could also be pulled off casual.

This fragrance is rather sentimental to me because even though now I would consider this to be an intimate evening type of scent, back in the day as a high school student and college student this was my everyday signature scent. This fragrance will always resonate with me. My bias put aside this has a beautiful scent profile even after being reformulated. It's a noticeable difference but it does not ruin this fragrance to my nose. Longevity is not great but it's a perfect date night fragrance in my opinion.

I still have some 2013 bottle. It's a beautiful cardamom lavander scent. It's cozy, smooth, spicy and a little bit sweet, but not super sweet. I prefer use this on cold days and special occations About longevity and projection It's pretty decent for a 2013 bottle. But never was a full force of projection even at that time. The thing I like about this scent It's very well blended. If you want to try something similar just get Lapidus - Pokerface, It's a little bit powdery, but very close and more cheap.

WOW! This one is fantiastic! It is so clean, but also oriental.. It has this lovely warming effect. Personally, I will wear this in the warmer months, especially at night indoors. I get compliments all the time from this. It has placed itself right on the favorites list. It's cozy, it's romantic.. I wasn't going to buy it. A new girl I am dating took one smell and assured me to give it a try. I can't turn back! 10/10. The only thing I keep hearing is that it is not so long lasting. It's fine for me...

The fragrance that made me love perfumery. The cardamom is what makes it special, not because it only smells only of it, but because it is blended in way that it stands out yet goes through complexities during the dry down. It is hard for me to like something more and more after the initial honeymoon phase of purchasing. I guess that’s the difference between liking and loving. It’s like women who you love, yet she always leaves, because this fragrance disappears off my skin in about 2 1/2 hours.

I truly love this fragrance and have a strong sense of loyalty to it. It is the most repurchased scent in my collection and one of the fragrances I get asked about the most whenever I wear it. It is light, smooth, and never overwhelming, which makes it extremely easy to wear. It also works beautifully when layered with other fragrances, adding a refined touch without overpowering them. I am genuinely very impressed by this scent and always find myself coming back to it. HISTORIC!!

I just tested it in a shop , very classy and well blended and balanced , probably one of the best smells i ve ever smelled. Please normalise that fragrances can not stay for 8 hours on you , 3 or 4 will do. And i became convinced that the fragrance online spaces can never replace the experience of trying yourself a fragrance and juging for yourself..someone in the comments just compared la nuit de l'homme to an airfresh..made me really question my hours long dives in fragrantica.

this perfume is special for me, because I used to be scared of social interactions, and my way of overcoming that was going to perfume stores, smelling perfumes which to see what scent profiles I'm into, and this was one of the first scents that I couldn't stop smelling after it was sprayed on my skin (this was maybe 7-8 years ago xD) today at the duty free in the airport I saw 60ml bottle for 48$ and just had to buy it. I love this scent, thank you to the creators

I'm on my 2nd bottle since December 2013... • Truly gorgeous scent, but fleeting. It never performed well for me; I get 4-5 hours out of that one. Tops • Can't really say that performance has dropped significantly over the past ~10 years. • YSL Y EDP, La Nuit de l'Homme, and Tuxedo are my favorite fragrances by YSL. Intoxicating compliment magnets. • Recently picked up a bottle of Riiffs Fareed (LDNL clone). It outperforms LDNL, but it's not as smooth.

This is essentially cologne-level in terms of performance right now, like, no joke. I tested my 2025 batch bottle side by side with a literal cologne and lasted the same time. I tested it versus the old D&G The One EDP and the latter came up on top easily. Still the sexiest smell around, but I feel like YSL is really capitalizing on the fact that no matter how weak the performance is, people are still gonna seek this just because of the smell.

I bought this way back in 2011, and still is to this day, one of my most complimented fragrances. Really didn ́t care about its flankers. I just sticked to this one until this day. I have maybe 15% left of the original bottle. The cardamom and cedar wood combination is lovely. Longevity is not the best, which is my only gripe of this beauty. Many years gave gone and this is still one of the sexiest fragrances out there !

Embodies Fall/Winter perfectly. La nuit de l'homme is a perfectly balanced, warm, spicy fragrance with a great woody dry down. I like how it isn't as "in your face" as some other fragrances, and is more subtle and sophisticated. My only complaint is its longevity; it only projects for a couple of hours, then it settles to more of a skin scent. Still, a well balanced and sophisticated scent.

This was the first fragrance I bought for myself when I was in high school. Stupidly, I decided to blind buy it after a friend put me on it, but I made the right choice. Give or take 6 years later, and it's been my go-to fragrance in the wintertime. A night fragrance for sure, and the amount of compliments I got out of it is something I stopped counting years ago, lol.

My go-to when it gets colder. Its sexy and warm, and smells like cardamom and wood. Not super complicated or groundbreaking in terms of creativity, but smells damn good. I've never met someone who disliked it. Sillage is perfect for daily use, one spray and it lasts through the day and is smellable from an intimate distance. A real crowd pleaser, not much else to say.

I smell Iris. I get a similar iris/lavender combo that is present in Dior Homme intense. Others may not agree, but ysl official website lists Iris and not lavender. Anyway... Sexy Sensual Romantic Intimate Yummy Delicious Edible Netflix n chill Date night Might be the sexiest scent of all time, I haven't smelled them all, but definitely sexiest in my collection.

you know the feeling of falling asleep in the backseat of the car on the drive home on the highway? the orange street lights passing by as you doze off to the sound of boring AM radio? that's what this scent reminds me of. very soothing and pleasant, never too much i bought this blind and couldn't be happier. need another bottle. mine is almost empty

Beautiful scent that was given to me as a gift. I bought a seperate bottle knowing how much I loved it. Very attractive fragrance that will definitely make those around you enjoy being near you. Just wish it had better projection and longevity. Overally YSL rarely makes a bad fragrance. Probably one of if not the best designer house for fragrances.

Very airy, nice and well blended. It is somewhat weak, but just spray a little more, and you will be fine. Overall, I enjoy this very much, and it is one of my favourite fragrances from the House of YSL. It is a timeless classic, and I recommend that you at least try it Longevity: 6.5 of 10 Projection: 5 of 10 Smell: 10 of 10 Overall: 7.5

Gorgeous scent, used to be my favorite, now i like it a little less, i think this is a little dated and there are other interesting options. For date nights it's still one of the kings, the dry down after 2 hours smells like sex, tried the latest batch and longevity was good despite it being a skin scent fairly quickly as expected

I’ve never received a single compliment wearing this. It doesn’t project or last at all. I love the smell though, and I’m currently going through my third bottle(which is not surprising since you need to spray it a lot), but I just wanted to share my experience. It’s not the “compliment monster” that YouTubers make it out to be.

Super underrated YSL fragrance. The opening is a bit powdery and I'm not the biggest fan of it but the dry down is absolutely amazing. It has this intimate woody dry down that smells gorgeous. 10/10 Date night fragrance for an intimate setting. Projection and longevity is decent for me. Definitely gatekeep worthy

Such a beauty of a fragrance with such poor poor poor performance. My goodness i have never seen a fragrance disappear like this one. It is such a stunning fragrance, the performance is a real let down. At best i get 2 hrs longevity and that is it. Its gone, no whiff, no scent trail, no evidence of its existence.

its so calming and welcoming, very slightly sweet but not overly like a stronger with you or a jpg. Any age could pull this off, and I honestly dont see myself getting fatigued from the scent because its just so pleasant and light. if this actually lasted, i would wear it every day. 10/10, will always have one

It's a beautiful scent and there's nothing out there like it. YSL could remake this with better longevity and projection power and they'll make millions overnight. I'd say it's no longer worth it, because you're lucky if it lasts 2 hours on you...even on clothes it fades away. Sadly no 1:1 clones out there.

Very seductive scent. Soft yet masculine but I could see a lady wearing this who doesn’t like the mass produced sweet and floral fragrances. Make no mistake this is for a gentleman vibe not a bad boy scent. Clean and fresh best describes LNDH. Office appropriate and great first impression scent.

oh my godddd this is so good it's an instant love. as a woman, i wear this when i want to feel sexy and because i love smelling it on a man. it's addictive and so seductive. i want every man i encounter to smell like this and get irrationally disappointed when they don't. repurchase forever

I gave Le Nuit to my father as a gift. To me, mens fragrances are usually too strong for my nose. But this one is so pleasant and makes me want to keep sniffing it again and again. My daddy deserves to smell beautiful beacause he is a beautiful man inside and out. Love ya daddy and enjoy!

i blind bought this and oh my god its literally the epitome of greatness I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOVE LA NUIT DEL HOMME ITS SOOO GOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDD its 100% my best blind buy, it smells gorgeous, manly, sexy, and i always get a ton of compliments wearing this. BUY THIS I LOVE IT

Likely my most complimented scent. The ladies love it. Goated Date-Night fragrance, but if your ass is sitting on fragrantica all day, the odds of you having any dates are probably pretty low, so get off this website and get your shit together bruv. You ́re welcome

What can I say? LNDH is personally an all-time classic. I discovered it during my teenage years (my mom bought me a bottle) and I still love it. Sillage might have gotten worse through the years, but the smell ist still the same. Perfect for fall and winter.

i can see this being an amazing date night scent for the colder months, fresh, clean and sexy, you WILL smell the lavender, i only wish it was a bit louder and performed better, definitely carry a decant to respray if you plan on being out for many hours

Easily my favorite nighttime, date night fragrance. This was instantly my girlfriend's favorite, and has led to deep, sentimental connections to it. Extremely seductive, spicy, warm but not cloying- everything one could want for a date night fragrance.

this is the most solid grab n go thru out the day with light projection. you have to be kinda close to really smell it which is good cause it fits a lot of casual activities you wouldnt want an in your face fragrance with but still want something.
