Magnificent Gold

YSL Magnificent Gold is so beautiful. It is creamy, warm, soft, elegant, oriental, complement getter. excellent choice for people who dont like loud oud in the fragrance. White oud is light, and vanilla is well blended with other ingredients. longevity on the skin is good 6 - 8 hours. The projection is soft but detectable from 1 - 2 feets in the first 1.5 hour before it become skin fragrance. It could be notified better while moving as the silage (trail of smell behind one's who wear fragrance) of the fragrance could be detected 1 - 1.5 meters away.Some people couldn't smell it and the reason could be the nature of the ingredients as white oud and musk are not detectable to all people. For me i have 75 ml bottle and i can still smell it on my hand after 10 hours. Don't judge it quickly, just be patient and ask people around you and you will be happy when they say they can smell you. My evaluation for this masterpiece: Smell: 10/10 Projection: 7 / 10 silage: 7.5 / 10 Complement: 9/10 Uniqueness:9/10 package: 9/10 quality: 9/10 price: 8/10 versatility: 8/10. Could be blind purchase: yes, but better to test it before. Overall: 9/10

The name really suits this perfume, especially the bottle. This is a beautiful vanilla oud scent, perfect for a cold winter day. It smells like a delicious vanilla ice cream but not overly sweet. The saffron and the pink pepper makes it slightly spicy. This is a very soft scent which I normally don't associate with oud. I wish more oud perfumes contained white oud, thus making them more wearable. This is also the most wearable and safe to blind buy from the Le Vestiaire des Parfums Oriental Collection. Personally I do not consider this a night time or date night type of fragrance. It feels very warm and cozy but a little airy at the same time. Unfortunately it sits very close to the skin, so if you are looking for a beast mode fragrance this is not the right choice. Longevity on skin is not too good, so I usually spray it on clothes and it lasts about 3 to 4 hrs which is not good at this price point. Overall, I love this fragrance so much that I am willing to overlook the sillage and logevity issue 🥰😘.

This was love at first “sniff”🥰 I absolutely love the way how Magnificent Gold is well blended and it’s not like the other typical vanilla perfumes which are over sweet or headachy, it’s sweet but not too much and creamy thanks to sandalwood and has very nice touch of the white oud (safe for people who don’t like oud)😉 and works perfectly with my skin. I’m vanilla perfume lover but this one is for me the top because it’s just different than the other vanillas, simply gentle way ❤️ Long lasting on skin and stay on my clothes for few days, in my opinion it worth the money but I can’t say it’s safe blind buy unless your skin works perfectly with sandalwood and you love vanilla with little touch of spiciness. Even though people say it’s not overpowering, when I did try it first time, went shopping, lady who was showing me handbags couldn’t stop sniffing around me untill she said: I smell soo beautiful vanilla from you, what is it ?😊😊😇 Definitely go and try it on ❤️

This fragrance is a love for me. Quite simple but still quite complex. It is my favourite in this YSL's recent premium line. This is not oriental, arabic or too oud-ish. It is rightfully quite modern and western iteration of arabic perfumery. The top is kinda effervescent and playful to me, might be because of spices and pepper. I would say it is bright in the top but not in fresh aquatic way. It gradually becomes more woodiee and smoother as it dries down. I can smell creamy sandalwood and vanilla. From mod onwards it starts getting into woody creamy powdeey zone. This part is absolutely sexy, posh and exquisite. Very subtle but extremely enjoyable. This scent could be really versatile. For its top it can be used in formal scenarios and for its mid and base this can be perfect for dates and intimate moments. I can't comment on performance at the moment I have to give it few more wearings but excellent first impression. 9 out of 10 easily...

Magnificent Gold opens with a bright sweetness coming from the saffron and vanilla, with pink pepper giving it a sharp kick. It quickly develops a heart of creamy sandalwood and a deliciously thick, gourmand vanilla note. In the dry down you’re gently greeted with an overload of sweet vanilla and sandalwood, with a musky undertone of white oud giving the fragrance this overall bitterness and maturity. As others have said it has a very ‘fluffy’ scent profile which is very soft around the edges, and in terms of performance this projects massively and lasts all day with ease. Magnificent Gold is massively underrated - a must have for any vanilla fanatic. I can imagine it can come off as too sickly sweet to some, and yet weirdly it’s one of my most complimented fragrances. It’s a shame to see it being discontinued as it truly is a hidden gem, perfect for a warm and cosy winters day.

The PERFECT vanilla! I have been searching for a good vanilla fragrance for a while. I was looking for something that was not gourmand or juvenile. Magnificent Gold is vanilla for grown ups and in my opinion you can definitely smell that it’s exclusive. To me, this smells like a powdery and dry, woody vanilla. It is not overly sweet or too strong. I honestly don’t get any spices and only a whiff of soft oud when applying the fragrance, other than that it stays quite linear. Beautiful scent that works for most occasions. Get it while you can.. rumor has it that all of the gold oriental bottles are getting discontinued.

Absolutely beautiful. This is a wonderful perfume, that's about it. I'm not breaking it down it's a kind of gentile, lightly spiced, powdery musk, sandalwood accord perhaps rose and iris? Certainly vanilla but not too sweet and brought together in such a way where it doesn't matter, it's more than the some of it's parts. Is it distinctive? Not really. Is it worth the money? Sort of...I mean you're not going to get much better but sure it's expensive. In fact this entire line are really good from YSL and sort fly quite stealthily under the radar as apposed to Dior or Chanel exclusive lines. I enjoyed this anyway.

Very pleasant fragrance, maybe the less unique from the entire collection. Well blended very smooth with a huge longevity although sillage is very short (maybe an hour). Nothing special more like an every day scent. I like it but I don't love it. If you're not used to strong scents this might be a good winter perfume for me I rather use it on warmer weather and save more potent scents for the winter. By the way try to get it on sales I bought it for £75 instead of £245 on House of Frasier if you're in the UK

Warm, spicy, rich woods with enough vanilla to stop it being masculine and keep it unisex. No skanky oud. No pineapple. Very strong - 2 sprays on my wrist is too much to smell my skin directly. Got my bottle from a huge high street retailer and it’s been macerating for a year or more. If you don’t like peppery scents give this a miss, the pepper dominates for ages and you can notice it if you’re not a fan. Can’t believe this isn’t more popular though as it’s a pretty great woody Amber.

One of the most beautiful, sensual fragrances ever. Carries hints of Givenchy Pi and Guerlain’s Cuir Beluga and elevates them to a warmer, creamier level with delicate hints of sensual musks. Feels like a Schubert symphony. Such a shame it’s been discontinued. Happy to have back up bottles but why, why the brand doesn’t carry a limited amount of bottles for masterpieces like Caftan and Magnificent Gold for us. Please bring them back 🥹

Oh my goodness, this is gorgeous! This is for the sexy ladies! It’s sensual, warm & cozy yet sexy for a date night. The notes are blended very smoothly, the Oud is giving it that ouphhh without being overpowering while the sandalwood and vanilla gives it that creamy essence and the saffron and pink pepper gives that sexy warmth. I’m obsessed 😍

Magnificient Gold by Saint Laurent. A creamy vanilla bomb in the air. A woody vanilla scent on my skin with more santal than white oud. They are absolutely not the same, but I got some Spicebomb extreme vibes here. Magnificient Gold is brighter and performs better. Scent : 8/10, a nice night time fragrance. Performance and sillage : 9/10

A sexy oud fragrance that I could wear at night anytime of the year. A creamy vanilla oud scent when you want a little sweetness but not headache inducing. Longevity is great with 6 hrs+. I prefer to wear this a little close to the skin rather than a strong projection. Highly recommended!!

A tad less powerful and vanillic than Babycat, Magnificent Gold is a true beauty. Here, the Oud replaces the leather (found in Babycat) and it gives wealth and class like no other fragrance can. A true masterpiece that I am happy to own 🖤

This is stunning and so underrated. To me this smells like if you combined SPiritueuse Double Vanille with Cuir Beluga. A sophisticated grown up vanilla scent. 9.5/10

Magnificent Gold is what I like to call a "grown-up vanilla" - dry and powdery rather than syrupy, often paired with woods. MG has a soft spiciness and a light amber nuance in the base, all of which serve to enhance the powdery vanilla here. MG is vanilla-dominant from initial spray; dry, sweet and powdery. I get a hint of soft saffron, adding a spicy amber nuance. I adore a good vanilla-amber accord, and here it is beautiful. The woody undertone develops as the scent progresses, marrying beautifully with the vanilla to form a measured, smooth, even creamy scent that is just the right amount of sweet. It is led by soft sandalwood, predictable but utterly satisfying. The pink pepper emerges slightly later on, adding a subtle rosy counterpoint to the woody vanilla. The oud is an inspired addition, coming to the fore during the later stages. Muted and woody rather than skanky, it enhances the woody accord while adding a pitch-perfect amber nuance. It dries down to a musky vanilla skin scent, dry and powdery until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. It is an example of a unisex vanilla. It is best worn on autumn/winter days. Muted, well-blended and wonderfully powdery, MG is the kind of vanilla I like. Elegant and sophisticated, yet fuss-free, it is beautifully composed, as good as it is understated. Unlike its name, quiet luxury comes to mind. 4/5.

Hmmm. Certainly opulent, but maybe not the luxury dream it purports to be. Upscale, tastefully done, adult and classy vanilla, but "Magnificent" is pushing it a little in my view. I think YSL's Splendid Wood should be called Superb Wood, so it's not down to just hating hype, or not liking YSL - but for me this tends a little more to "meh" than "magnificent". Deeply warm, gently rounded, almost disappointingly inoffensive - it's so carefully polished-down that the oud comes across more as 'general woody sweetness' than the real magnificent forest stinker oud can be. For me, absolutely a vanilla scent with a few trimmings and unusually grown-up aura, rather than an all-around oriental. Really very pleasant indeed and for vanilla-lovers I'd say this would be a done deal. But not half as distinctive as you might think from the name (and the price) and if vanilla was my field, I think there are plenty others I could suggest in the same ballpark for many many fewer $$$. It's fine - just not half as interesting to me as others from the stable (Splendid Wood, Tuxedo, Caftan, Cuir, for instance.) Projection's quite feisty at first, though the smell itself is so suave it wouldn't overwhelm; longevity is OK but not strikingly strong on me either. So: Perfectly Adequate Gold.

This is pleasant, elegant and versatile. For my nose more gourmant than oriental with a vanilla pronounced in the opening similar to Guerlain (... I think tonka?), Creamy sandal, saffron and a very good white oud. Simple, comforting but also mysterious. My favorite of this line. With a little more oud I would have bought the bottle but alas I already have enough gourmant alternatives in my wardrobe. However positive.

A few similarities to Cuir Beluga but stronger sweeter vanilla and a woodier powderiness (heliotrope in CB vs a sandalwood accord in MG) almost like a clash of SDV and Cuir Beluga. Magnificent Gold has more punch and lasts longer, I would say Cuir Beluga has a touch more elegance and natural feel. Very nice, well worth a try.

I've bought a sample of this scent, simple yet quite mesmerizing, definitely on the sweeter vanilla oud side and feminine. I gave away the flacon as a present to a girl, friend of mine. It's a very exotic, creamy and sensual scent. Works wonders on girls, even with a nice projection time, sillage and longevity.

Well... not quite what I expected. If you have smelt a pineapple eraser as a child.... this is it. It smells like pineapple eraser. Maybe if I hadn't had this association, it would've smelt more exclusive. Very, very pleasant smell though.

Why the heck do brands discontinue masterpieces?! 😖

I am wearing YSL Magnificent Gold today and getting pink pepper with a hint of saffron and vanilla. The vanilla in this fragrance is rather dry and somewhat synthetic to my nose. Perhaps it’s the result of combination of vanilla with suffron and pink pepper, but there is something artificial about fragrance. And while the scent is inoffensive, but for me it lacks the “wow” factor. The longevity is low to moderate at best (if I spray on some clothes), but projection and sillage are low (I had my bottle for over two years and the performance has not improved from what I remember).

I'm only taking the time to add my review because there aren't many up here on this fragrance. I had to order YSL's Magnificent Gold and have it sent to my local Neiman's because they didn't carry it in stores. I was so excited to receive this, I didn't wait to get home to open it. I opened it as soon as I got to my car and sprayed it onto my arm. The disappointment was so great I got back out of the car to go inside and return it right away. In the opening I got a very light, almost non-existent sandalwood/vanilla scent. Only way I could smell that was by almost shoving my nose into my arm. I was just left with an oily spot on my arm from the parfum and almost no scent at all. The presentation of this fragrance is beautiful. It's simple and elegent. Solid, metallic gold bottle with a black top and black label on the front. I had the lady at the YSL counter smell it on me and she was surprised that she couldn't smell it either. I also let the lady at customer service smell it so she could understand why I was returning it. And needless to say, I got my money back, right away, no problem. Maybe it's just my skin, I don't know. This just happened to be the biggest waste of $175 +tax I've ever spent, and I'm glad I was able to get refunded. I expected a lot more, especially at this price point.

This is all wood on me! I cant get past it! I wish I got the vanilla everyone said but the weird wood scent does not smell good on me I wish I would have gotten manifesto le perfum.. Im selling on ebay :)

There's a lot riding on this one when your brand is YSL and you name a fragrance not just Gold (24's was pretty good) but MAGNIFICENT Gold So is it?? Well,, no but wait - it did defy expecatations becasue I've been on a long long run of disappointmnts during my latest tours of Harrod's and Selfridges. To name a few: the whole of the 'newer Tom Ford line' (Vanille fatale, London, Oud wood etc), Love shot by Ex Nihilo, PdM's Habdan (and the rest of their line), all latest Byredo's, Rojsa's Elysium, Ambre Tigre,, and so on So, to use those refernce points, this came out on me quite a lot better than all of those frags, and the best 1 I've rated since Lalique's L'Or Intemporal. But it's not breaking the Elite band any time soon; Perry Ellis Black Vanilla, Roja's Enigma and Apple brandy. It's very rounded and smooth / semi-sweet from the Offset. Vanilla is there, maybe a touch of amber and some good sandalwood, but it's also a tiny bit refreshing at top, like a splash of sweetish bergamot that makes a World of difference. Ambre Nuit failed in doing this for me; their bergamot lingered and got too annyoing-citrus and skewed the 'syrupy' nature of their already ultra-lite scent too much. This gets the Sugary part right; it's a touch 'neutral' aromatic up top, no hissy oranges or weird saffron-rosewater / greens here. Nice but I think it still sits just below 24 Gold; I'll be generous for now but I'll probably instantly knock off a point if I stumble across a good sweet Berry/apply Niche Fruity frag later this summer as that's what I'm mainly after now and this is expensive(!) Still I don't dish my 8's around cheaply myself! =) My rating:8/10

I am by no means an oud expert. Not even sure I know what white oud smells like. With that being said, I would never describe this as having oud in the ingredients. I smell exactly the pyramid they have laid out. Top notes are pink pepper and saffron, then the vanilla and sandalwood come creeping in following up with musk and if they say white oud, it would probably be in the base. It's a very polite oud. I can't even say it smells medicinal....but if it's in there. It's nice. This is powdery but not baby powderish, its soft creamy spicy vanilla sandalwood. I keep hearing it compared to a bowl of vanilla ice cream. I agree, but not the Walmart brand...this is the hand churned Italian Gelato di Vaniglia. It's so creamy and delightful. It doesn't really project past the first hour of wearing it, the remainder of its longevity is a skin scent. It has decent longevity, at least 8 hours. Longer on textiles. I can smell soft wafts of it off my skin and clothes 11 hours later. Stays pretty linear. I have a decant of Santal Carmin and I can see some similarities but they are not dupes for one another. SC is brighter and sweeter than this not quite as spicy. They share the sandalwood aspect but YSL is much woodier. Probably a safe blind buy if you like powdery fragrance and don't mind spending but if you can find for a better price definitely worthy of your purchase. It's a safe blind buy for vanilla lovers. Not a young childish vanilla either, it's a simple classy elegant vanilla. Good sweater scent.

The opening is magnificent and I can’t tell what note is making it pretty unique smelling, Vanilla is present from the beginning and joyful, I instantly get transported to a field somewhere and feel at peace. The sandalwood is heavnly and the spices aren’t overpowering... try this one Projection - 2-3 feet plus for 2-3 hours Longevity - i got well over 8 hours on this one Scent - 9.5 out of 10 it really just is well blended and unique Update: The Performance of this fragrance is heavily slept on. I usually use 4-5 sprays, on a 60 degree a week ago one of my friends “smelled” me before we saw each other a good 8 + feet away, yet again the wind could of carried the scent Longevity is insane, sometimes wearing this i smell it a good 12 hours later, by that point it is obviously a skin scent but therea a good chance i still smell it on my clothes the next day.

This is not what I expected based on the reviews. It is a very wearable, smooth perfume that does have a very slight resemblance to burnt caramel but to me, it is not very sweet. It is in fact much more smoky, even leathery to my nose. I expect that is the oud, but it sure is unlike any other oud I’ve smelled, and I have loads of ouds. The cleanest oud I own is Oud Blanc by VC&A, but this is way less oudy. I was also expecting more sandalwood but there isn’t much here that strikes me as sandalwood, just general woods. So overall, I get smoky, woody vanilla, which is yummy and quite different to say Vanille Fatale. This is much less dark. The name does suit it, because whilst VF conjures up black or dark brown to me, this is really like gold or beige made into a smell- comforting and classically elegant. Leans feminine.

Bought a near full partial blind, oh my lord it’s so good. Fluffy, clean, warm and honeyed vanilla oud. Wow. Most ouds I’ve smelt lately feel powdery and dry/clean. This is very powdery to my nose but at the same time golden. I’m so glad to have this in my collection. Beautiful woody and resiny notes underlie the sweetness (which is never too much) and it really lasts and gently projects. On my first wear at work I was told twice I smelt wonderful. You don’t get that often at work these days. I’ll keep my eye out for a backup bottle, it’s that good. 2025 edit : still insanely beautiful and even better given the vanilla craze. Tasteful, lush and never too sweet. Still a firm love. I also managed to nab a new 125ml by fluke - glad to have the backup.

I went to John Lewis just looking around at the perfumes, a sales person asked me whether I like Oud fragrances, she sprayed a sample of this on a tester. I took this home, I left in my closet with my jacket. And omg, my entire draw smelt of this perfume! It’s been 8 days since it was sprayed and the smell is still there 😩 i absolutely love this! It smells like u want to eat it and keep smelling it. It’s £245 which I think it’s way over price! But i bought it anyway coz I love it so much 🙃

Beautiful scent! I ordered some decants from decantx since it can’t be found anywhere! This smells so similar to BDK’s Wood Jasmine. If you have one you don’t really need the other. The notes are different but on my skin these two smell almost identical. It’s not close to Babycat at all, at least not to my nose. I am so happy with my decants!

Starts off amazing, rich full, interesting, with the vanilla, the saffron, a bit of pepper and dies down into a creamy unisex sandalwood. If I could keep the opening, I'd love a full bottle of it. But, provided its development, I'll be satisfied with my 20 ml decant.

This one give me a motherly smell and it’s more for mature women It’s a creamy a bit powdery sandalwood vanilla parfume.

Good vanilla perfume. Very similar to SDV. Kinda has a glazed/maple-y/sugary/Creme Brulee quality to me.
