Opium Eau D'ete Summer Fragrance 2003

Beautiful variant edition of the classic Opium. Soft and sultry, not as strident as the original, still warm and deep. with a beautiful jasmine, a sweet mandarine and a gentle incense note. I find this to be a more delicate myrrh than the smokey original. I find the more recent formulations unacceptably clean and soapy. On the other hand, vintage Opium is something I rarely wear. I love it, but much of my life is spent in a context in which the original would simply be inappropriate. This I could wear almost anywhere, with the understanding that it leans to the more sensual side. Just lovely. The incense is neither church nor hippie, but a wisp from a distant temple, very zen. I disliked the brownish bottle initially, but now I frankly don't care. Easy to wear, fun, flirty, cozy and serene, this is indeed still Opium.

Soft myrrh, carnation, and incense. Citrus does not read loudly on me, but now and then I notice it. I also notice something animalic, almost like wet wool--though that doesn't sound pleasant, I still love this perfume. I think that's myrrh in perfumes on me. Eau d'Été is very versatile, and is most definitely reminiscent of vintage Opium edt, but not as balsamic or spicy in my opinion. Edit 12/11/24: That "wet wool-like" smell is carnation on my skin, when I overspray. I'm getting to know carnation better, and I love it. I just have to not overspray, and it's the most comforting full-bodied kind of floral smell.

A toned down version from the original. Just a little more floral, it’s not that as unisex as I expected unlike my dear Nu EDT. An underrated gem from the fascinating YSL lineup from the early 2000s . I do love it but I expected a more dark version. Good longevity but it’s a little soft on projection on my skin. Got it for a good price. If you love florals and woody you won’t be disappointed!

I received an almost full bottle in a swap ... I'm so glad! I love it I love its darkness and heavy message, enveloped in a summery name I'll be weating it for lunch today; it's almost 30' C outside and this frag is just PERFECT for this weather

Mandarine, jasmine and myrrh. Myrrh being one of my favorite notes: this is the take on it that I love for warmer weather, the balmy sweet myrrh lightened by sparkling summery jasmine and the juicy fresh mandarine. There's a little spiciness added: carnations and bitter orange, but unlike other reviewers the carnation doesn't come on very strong on me. A little patch and vanilla makes a "traditional" oriental base. Definite sillage and lasts 8+ on skin. I believe you could love & use this, like me, without being a user of the original Opium - in case that one feels too heavy for you. "Fruity oriental"? I wish for another scent like this. Please let me know if anything else get's close to this!
