Opium pour Homme EDP (Blue Case - 1995) Damn!!! Sexy Sexy Sexy!!! What an outstanding accomplishment by a master of his craft. I can’t quite believe that Jacques Cavalier gave us this true gem 25 years ago now. To create one icon in a career is an achievement but you can’t forget that he also brought us the original YSL M7 and Rive Gauche Pour Homme too, plus the Zegna Essenze line & TF Noir de Noir. I mean...... WOW. I remember my old business partner coming back in to our studio the day this was released in the UK, absolutely smothered in Opium EDP....... I swear I could smell him from the end of the street! Whilst his initial wear was way, way beyond what would be deemed civilised by any standard and was subsequently absorbed by osmosis by yours truly, the beauty of it has never left me. He kept the bottle at work and I would often pinch a spray or two until I could bear it no more and bought my own a few weeks later...... and I’ve been hooked ever since. I promise you.... once you’ve tried the original, you’ll crave it forever! The beauty of this beast is the sum of its parts: relatively few components yet so superbly well rounded, rich and utterly unapologetic in its boldness. It’s the louche lounge lizard in the velvet smoking jacket, cigarette holder in one hand and a martini in the other. I own both versions but the original is just smooooooothe from beginning to end, whereas the newer version, whilst still fantastic, does open up with the anise note being a bit spiky but then calms down and purrs along, just like it’s older brother. One of the most beautiful aspects for me though is the black currant because it just stays the distance almost from the opening, despite it being at the heart & it’s sweet/sharp nature just balances out the vanilla in the base so perfectly. The resinous Tolu Balsam in the base is due a big round of applause too, with its sticky, rich, slightly cinnamon & amber tones contrasting with the gingery galanga...... sigh! It’s become incredibly difficult to find the original EDP in the blue case & refills but they do pop up on rare occasion if you’re lucky. Failing that, you won’t do yourself a disservice if you can get the newer glass bottle version because in my opinion, whilst it’s not exactly the same as the original for its all-round performance & smoothness, it’s pretty damn close. The original gives me a solid 8+ hours longevity with incredible sillage and a good 4ft projection for 3+ hours before slowly tailing off. Be mindful of your sprays though...... no more than two on skin & one on clothes is plenty or you’ll anger the room! I’d say for the 25 or older crowd; early spring, late autumn & winter and best as an evening fragrance but will work fine with colder daytime wear. For me, one of, if not the best oriental spicy in the game & undoubtedly a 10/10, no question and as a slight aside, if this were to be brought out today by one of the niche houses du jour, the YouTube reviewers would be all over it, lauding it’s magnificence; let’s not lose sight of that either! YSL Opium EDP class, style, exuberance... Yves Saint Laurent Opium Edp is one of those perfumes that does not take into account the time barrier, a beacon of French creations, which should be found in the wardrobe of any man. His performance is as heavy as the legacy he leaves behind. Balsamic and gourmand, like a star on the red carpet, Opium attracts attention, obeys you but at the same time keeps you in respect. Jacques Cavallier, who is responsible for many works of art, both classical and modern, has created here an epitome of French luxury, good taste, a sensual, masculine fragrance that envelops you like a scarf and ventures you through the brightest event halls. Its performance undoubtedly makes you noticeble among the others, captivating and mysterious. Compared to EDT, I consider it has turn on the maximum volume the vanilla and fruits. An oriental in all aspects, polished in Paris. The presentation further reflects the nobility and masculinity of the perfume. Exuberant, dressed in a blue tailcoat, with a heart of gold, he offers the arm to the one who wants it, seduces and does not let go. It smile and submit ... It is undoubtedly a mature perfume, to be worn on special occasions. It shines on the coldest autumn nights. A magnificent creation that we can no longer find on the shelves but that I am happy to own. Au révoir Monsieur!

i have both the edp and the edt from the Sanofi era. i dont know if the edp with the blue cover is discontinued but i heard is not available in most of countries. i never smelled the current formulations but if opium now is on the shelves with a cheap price something's going wrong, because the vintage versions were dense and rich, and the prices were not so cheap, edp in particular. regarding the scent,vintage edp and edt are basically the same, the edt is a little bit lighter and the edp is slightly boozier but the scent is not so different. i prefer the edp for the density and richness but old edt is on the same level, buy it if u can. the fragrance is very oriental, i love the spicy and vanilla notes and i want to point out that opium is not a "beast", it has a great performance but is smooth, elegant, exotic, classy in the same time. nothing intrusive or "kourosy" in this juice. and another thing: it's not a 90's scent, is definitely out of time, a "universal parfume". i have to say it can be used by women because it's masculine but close to the unisex side. i hope the current formulations are great as the older versions. seasons: winter and fall. occasions: nightout, dates. age: 25-30 and up. l'oriente in bottiglia! scent: 9 longevity:8,5 sillage: 8 versatility:7,5 uniqueness: 9 bottle: 8 with the blue cover my vote: 9 in one word: orient

Absolutely love this, YSL Do still make the EDP but in limited amounts, it's available from Escentual and some other sites (UK) It retails at around £70 but I purchased mine for £59 on special offer. It seems to have been reformulated but is still very much like the original EDP, lasts a long time, one light spray on my arm at 11.30am and at 22:42 I can still smell it and I'm getting wafts every so often, the original formulation in the blue refillable bottle is still better performing though, the newer formulation does last long but it whispers after a few hours although on clothing it just seems to hang on in there. The new formulation is still worthy of repeat purchases as it's still a classic scent. Thankfully it has not been ruined but I have heard that there's only a certain production amount per year and YSL website it states it is a luxury variant now. It's summer now so my new bottle will be saved for winter time. Also I'm 31 and have been wearing this since I was 25, it's certainly not an old man smell but a classic. If you don't want to smell like everyone else does then give this a try. I've gone through loads of various types of fragrances, from the likes of JOOP at the very start of my fragrance journey right the way to the likes of Guerlain and Dior and obviously Opium. I could never wear JOOP now though

If I was to define this in three words, I would label it as an Oriental Barbershop Gourmand. In a few more words, I find this has a fougere structure, hence the barbershop association. And in this case, I would say the anise replaces the typical clean top note (coriander / sage / salvia / pine / eucalyptus / menthol take your pick), the black currant, pepper and ginger (or galanga) replacing the lavender, bergamot, and geranium notes, the tolu balsam the tonka, and all the aforementioned together with vanilla and cedar replace the patchouli hum at the base. In gourmand terms, if this was edible, I would say this is a digestif or better yet a dessert cocktail. It would be a coupe of Creme de Cassis liqueur, with a generous layer of vanillic lightly whisked cream on top, decorated with a sprinkling of black pepper, one star anise, and a slice of ginger at the edge of the glass. Mmm, should try that actually... In simple terms, simply delicious and sensual marmalade of a perfume. Hardly ever do I feel this being appropriate for day time wear (thought on a crisp fall day it could work well), I mostly get the association of an elegant social evening event, dimmed lights, frivolous chatter, and (aforementioned) great cocktails.

Reminds me Loui in Interview with a vampire somehow dont know why. I have the reformulated EDP never got the chance to smell the vintage Edp but i can imagine that it's something what would heaven smell like.. I also have a decant of the vintage EDT and that projects better than my EDP but EDP lasts longer and it is definitely sweeter than the EDT. I like them both but the key with the EDP is less is more. Do not overspray it.Sprayer is bad so 2 sprays is equal to for example DHI bottle 1 spray as amount. So i spray 2 times on chest and it projects 2 3 hours good and lasts 8 9 hours. One of my all time favourite UPDATE: This parfume is the most long lasting fragrance i have ever come acrossed... Unbelievable 24+ hours on skin despite shower just two tiny sprays on chest. The smell is just heaven, the performance is unbelievable! 2016 batch UPDATE 2: I scored last week a used vintage bottle with blue plastic covered. Smellwise it is definitely more richer, intoxicating than 2016 batch but my 2016 batch has better longetivity. I mean by that; vintage stays 10+ hours on skin and newest formulation more then 18 hours :) they are both beasts but i prefer vintage version in terms of smell ofcourse

YSL still had the edp as an online exclusive also available at a select few department stores as recently as 2018, it was in the same bottle as the EDT but with Eau De Parfum clearly stated on the box and bottle. My bottle is 62n900 batch code purchased in the UK in 2018. So Cortina1981 will have the EDP as do I also I'm very well aware of the EDP vintage too as I have 4 bottles and a refill of this still as well as the more recent reintroduction of the Eau De Parfum. The 2018 formula isn't too much like the vintage, lacks the strength and longevity of the original EDP in the refillable casing. As an independent fragrance to someone who didn't know vintage then it may well be a very enjoyable fragrance for them. I still enjoy mine but vintage is still better. YSL seemed to only have this available in smaller quantities as they weren't targeting a mainstream customer base. Therefore it doesn't always show on their website but it has been available, it's still currently available from online retailers with an RRP of £70 Escentual is one of the main sites that still stock this.

WOW! I just got in a 50ml bottle of the original formula EDP and it is certainly some amazing juice! A super-plush, rich, deep soft and spicy oriental with absolutely superior performance. It's very similar to the EDT as far as its smell, only if you can imagine the EDT in a much richer, deeper, and sensuous form. I probably get a little less black currant in this version and more tolu balsam, but overall this is just a beautifully spiced oriental resting on a swirling, rounded vanilla bourbon base. If you like the EDT you'll probably love this. I'd use the EDT for daily wear and warmer weather (though never WARM weather), and the EDP for nights out in cold weather. One or two sprays is all that's required. I haven't been this bowled over by a scent in a long time. Two thumbs way up, for YSL's Opium Pour Homme EDP. For what it's worth, an Opium EDP is still available in Europe, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the U.S. Even if the new EDP is not as good as the original formula, I would still imagine that it's very good, and definitely worth considering if you enjoy the EDT.

Scent: 10 One of my favourite scents. I love oriental smellings and for me this is one of the best ones btween the european designer lines. The mixture of black currant with the anis and the vanille id wonderful.iy is sweet but fresh and very spicy. Longevity: 8 Not bad i cant found It so long lasting as many people sais here. It has a good longevity but on the average for this kind of perfumes. Maybe the vintage version was better or the batch i have bought (2018) is not the best. On skin It lasts around 6hours and around 24 on clothes. Sillage: 8 Sillage is very good, overall the first two hours. Then It becaumes a spicy vanille skin fragance. Good projection but not a beast Mode. Price/quality: 7 Around 50€/50ml. It has an average prive for a designer edp. Versatility: 9 I find It a very versatile fragance. For me it is a scent to wear during the day but It has a very good performance at night. His quality, elegance and intensity makes It a very good choice for a formal ocassion. Global: 9

Smooth, sensual, sweet, exotic, and totally addictive! What a beautiful gem of a fragrance for men! Stunning! This was one of the first Eau de Parfum marketed fragrances for men back in 1995, and in no way does it smell dated now! It's sensual, sweet and exotic. This perfume has no sharp edges, completely smooth and sensual throughout. The fragrance itself opens up with zingy aromatic star anise and rich blackcurrant. It's completely beautiful. Followed by galanga and sichuan pepper, and drying down to beautiful tolu balsam and a deep, creamy, rich bourbon vanilla. Utterly intoxicating. Smooth and sensual, this is one of the best designer perfumes ever made for a man. You have everything you could want in a niche (e.g. a Serge Lutens oriental) from a well-known designer house. This is the YSL of the past, the one we all miss! You can still get this one as (thank God) it's still in production! I hope it stays that way. Easily one of the best and most luxurious for men out there.

Review of the current version transparent bottle, and I make it from the eau de parfum because it seems to me the most interesting and forceful. And besides, if my nose doesn't fool me, I think that from the original formula to this one there have been no major changes. Opium is an old school fragrance of Master Cavallier, without a doubt, I think it's beautiful. Opium is an oriental that I find quite unisex, the entrance is very fruity dominated by the currants, they feel very sweet, delicate, bright, they are accompanied basically by star anise and quickly, without delay, the bed of balms comes into play and Of course an excellent vanilla that sweetens everything, giving the currants that almost edible touch, like a cake made by a dessert craftsman. Residual drying takes you to the paradise of how good it is. Currants with vanilla in Cavallier mode: elegant, sophisticated, glamorous and suitable for any lover of succulent Orientals. Rating: 9.3

This parfume should come with a warning like this is the strongest & sexiest fragrance ever made, use with caution !!!...Lol. No joke this is the only fragrance in my collection where women come up to me & ask Wow what is that fragrance you are wearing. Definitely not a everyday application rather a special occasion fragrance when you want to be noticed or impress ! The only fragrance I know that you can literally smell it through the box & plastic of a unoped factory sealed box ! I've used this at festivals where I've been dancing & sweating for 12 hours & you can still smell it no problem at all. Try not to spray too much on clothes as it will still slightly smell even after a wash sometimes. A truly unique & very rare parfume to find nowadays. I still have a factory sealed strong old version that I may be willing to part with but it's not going to be cheap. One of bottles will last you a lifetime anyway lol. Opium for men, eau de parfum, is really a nice perfume. It started a little bit too classical but, very quickly, a powerfull oriental amber invade you. Middle and deep notes are deeper, maybe close of Egoïste of Chanel. In a good way. The sillage is maybe too strong for me, especialy for the office. But in any case, this perfume is still a great pleasure to wore. Opium pour homme en version eau de parfum est un délice. Ses notes de tête m'ont d'abord paru un peu datées, un peu papy mais très rapidement cette sensation s'efface. Le parfum s'épanouit alors, oriental profond qui me rappelle dans certains moments Egoïte de Chanel que j'ai longtemps porté. Certes, le sillage est très puissant, envahissant peut être. Le porter au bureau est un challenge. Je ne l'ai pas tenté. Pour autant, ce parfum reste étonnant, séduisant, et nettement plus original que certains de ses descendants (type One Million).

Tis Ford vs Cavallier. Being an avid admirer of Tom Ford's creations, I have esteemed majority of creations where he contributed (from M7 to Noir de Noir to Neroli Portofino). But Cavallier, nah. My olfactory receptors could never tune in with all his Aqvas and Issey's (with rare exceptions of his YSL creations.) I came to know Opium EDP recently. Never liked Opium EDT (who can take that much pepper? They always turn exhaust fan on in East when cooking hot Indian curry with oriental spices). But Opium EDP smells divine. It stands aloof from hundreds of fragrances I own or ever smelt. Ford Noir EDP had been my signature for couple of years. Still can't believe that Ford's Noir is a poor rip off of Opium EDP. OMG. Both were together at M7, but who inspired whom? Here I'm subdued. Tis Ford vs Cavallier.

I have about 25ml on my shelf and I can't seem to find any seller with this fragrance with acceptable price. To me this perfume smells extremely sexy, I love wearing this for everyday, but due to poor availability I have to keep it for special ocasions. This one in particular granted me so many compliments I can't count them. Definitely gets attention of women. The sillage and longevity are quite moderate, but I assure you that every one close enought will notify you when wearing this masterpiece. It has very distinct notes of 90's, it is for sure for adult men, boys should avoid that :) I would love to get another 50ml bottle of that gem.

I bought Opium for the first time for my birthday. I was 16 and it was 21 years ago. This fragrance was monumental. A masterpiece. I still remember the smell of it even tho the formula has changed and it's hard or impossible to get it these days. Such a shame because it's an ICONIC fragrance. I don't understand why the brands are killing their own legends (remember GUCCI "ENVY"? #iconic #whereisit). Opium is one of those fragrances Il'' recognize straight away. I was using it so often that in my head I am sure that instead of blood my veins are filled with Opium. If I could be a perfume I'd be Opium. It defines me. It's my DNA.

I was very fortunate to receive a sample of this by a fellow user and it is everything I had hoped for and more. I got my hopes up when I read all of the hype on here about it and I can confirm that it's all justified. This fragrance owes its warm, spicy radiance to tolu balsam, anise, and Sichuan pepper, creating the embodiment of a stellar Oriental Spicy. I would also venture to say that the vanilla lends its sweetness to the semi-tart black currant, forming an almost jam-like profile. This scent makes the EDT version smell like a translucent backbone of this sensual glory. Definitely a classic that one should experience.

This has been one of my absolute faves for many many years. It's unbeatable in terms of being really luscious and decadent. Fruity, boozy, spicy, with a deep layer of really complex, almost smoky, vanilla. And it lasts and lasts and lasts. Pity it's been restricted for sale to only Eurozone, and now has been reformulated. I just managed to get a bottle of the vintage - even though I have a quarter of the previous bottle still left! - and let me tell you now, its potency does not diminish with time. And absolute classic, and such a pity it never attained the popularity it thoroughly deserved.

Beautiful. A fruity blackcurrant opening paired with very powdery star anise. From there on in, it's a journey of spicy, oriental, gourmand, woody goodness. At first, I was surprised to learn that YSL Opium Pour Homme is from the 90's, as opposed to the 80's. But alongside the very heavy, spicy elements, there IS also a sort of 90's freshness... almost like pool water. Hard to describe but retro and lovely. It definitely smells dated, and not sure I'll wear this in public so much... but it's a wonderful, delightful fragrance. 4/5

Opium Pour Homme Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent what a beautiful masterpiece shame that YSL discontinued this gorgeous scent like so many others completely gone or reformulated, maybe Jacques Cavallier should bring back this hot and sexy flanker! All these beauties discontinued unfortunately Halle Berry Closer (2012) YSL M7 YSL Nu (2001) Christian Dior Midnight Poison (2007) Alexander McQueen Kingdom (2003) To name a few, these are truly missed bring these back! Monsieur Cavallier!

Opium Pour Homme Eau de Parfum........ Date of prodution 2018 current version transparent bottle, 50ml.......The EDP is overwhelming for the first 20 min as the black currant is very heavy. After that it follows the path of the EDT but with a more spicy heavy aroma,the first twenty minutes are off putting but after that it shows a beauty and elegance of its own. longevity:8,5 sillage: 8.4 versatility:7,5 uniqueness: 9 bottle: 7.

Opium EdP is a masterpiece. So much better than the EdT version. I had a bottle some years ago and today I bought a new one. It's still the same scent but stronger than ever before. Beast mode projection and lasts for days on the skin. Even after the shower still very present. Sillage bomb. Performance monster. Probably the most powerful scent in the world and pure asia style. Finally they added this wonderful masterpiece to Fragrantica database! I can agree with the comment below, it's in the top 3 best male perfumes from the house of YSL. This EDP is much deeper, richer, heavier, darker, much more mysterious than the Opium PH EDT (which is already heavy enough). Could have been called Shalimar Pour Homme as such. Unfortunately, they don't make such perfumes nowadays :(

A brilliant composition of an oriental spicy like it should be! It lasts all day, smells masculine and seductive. The notes of especially black currant, vanilla and star anise are blended to perfection. 2-3 Sprays and you are set for an entire day! The in blue plastic covered glass bottle is the one to get! Thumbs way up! Rating: 9/10

This is such a special fragrance, the quality of this is supreme! This is a beast of fragrance with so much depth and complexity and its just addictive and divine to smell. I find it rather unique in 2020 since nobody wears this anymore and if you can find a legitimate bottle you are very lucky! This would be king on a date night!

I think that they have never changed design of the bottle of this. All the bottles I have in my collection are transperant glass flacons with blue and gold caps. All these bottles are the refills (recharges) of the dark blue plastic container. I have never seen full dark blue glass bottle of Opium edp...

A legend...a masterpiece... For me the best perfume of YSL along with M7 (vintage,of course),spicy and sweet,elegant and powerful at the same time,a must have for everyone who loves perfumery world. Thank you so much monsieur Cavallier for create this wonderful fragrance.

Totally agree with flafo about reminding Egoiste with this powdery touch. This one is very different from Opium Eau de toilette, less clean and much much darker. Unique,contemporary and delightfull. Longevity is good. What else can we ask for ?

I own both the edt and the edp, both fantastic fragrances, but the vanilla in this is so good once it calms down. top 3 favorite fragrances, if you like a mature vanilla then this is for you Beginning smells almost like liquorish

Perfect...just perfect and long lasting! It's simillar to EDT but have differences..the EDP version is more intensive, more sweet and more pleasent! Somebody told that this is very similar to Tom Ford's Noir..is it true?

This is the most gorgeous, amazing, stunning perfume!!!!!! And the BOTTLE!!!! Ooohhh!!!

i got the edt and loved it a lot that it became a fave. so i was curious what the edp does. this one is gone gone. finding a bottle is pure luck. i happened to find a store that had a supply error with a tester LOL. i pointed it out and wanted to buy the tester but sadly wasn't allowed so it had to be returned to the supplier. DANG IT.. but the lady was so kind to give me 3 samples!! so i have like 10ml now it's not as common these days that EDT/EDP meant ''making it more concentrated''. instead of a label to sell a variation that smells completely different. modern aroma chemicals are really strong these days that EDTs can be just as strong and lasting. it's the exact same fragrance althou with a much more PUNGENT black currant opening and it was already out there in the EDT. it does what the edt does but with a delayed fuse. some of the soapiness is a bit muted compared to the edt making it slightly spicier. the EDT was already strong af and but it was more balanced. side by side i honestly prefer the EDT and i think i've already mentioned in my review for it that i don't want this to be stronger. the black currant here is bordering ''too much'' but the rest is the exact same unique personality the EDT has but just delayed and slightly spice forwarded and not as soapy. read my review for the EDT for a much better description since they're genuinely the same and now i understand why they decided to scrap the EDP cuz the slight difference is completely redundant. however still amazing

EDT vs EDP EDT In my experience, the modern formulation of the EDT opens with the delicious nose tickling powdery and spicy blast of the star anise. The ginger and pepper notes slowly come forward over around 20-30 min after this cools off and After about an hour it keeps a tiny some of of that initial edge, but the cedary woody notes come forward a lot more. Very nice EDP The EDP open is IMO pretty horrendous for the first 10-15 min as the black currant is OVERPOWERing and almost nauseatingly heavy. But give it a bit and after about 10-15 min it starts to follow the opening and progression of the EDT albeit at a slower more prolonged pace with slightly more modulated spicey blast as compared to the EDT, but still with a stronger black currant note which is much nicer once it takes a step back. It is definitely designed to be a long lasting fragrance with a bit more depth, as it takes the same sort of journey as the EDT described above but over a longer period. I think I would like this more if the black currant were not so pronounced throughout, but I have a feeling this is one of those frags that smell better in the air around you than when sniffing directly from your skin.

Have a bottle (90% used) for sale if anyone interested, smells too dense/sharp and the star anise is a bit overpowering for my taste. However, performance is a stunner since I have the older version with the detachable bottle. Despite having a pretty rough opening, the dry down with the bourbon vanilla is pure class and probably one of its kinds for a designer fragrance.

a perfume that recalls theatres and opera houses of the past.

I've been wanting to get this perfume for quite a while now, so normally I was pretty excited when i finally managed to find it on Notino last week. Ordered it on the spot and received it in a matter of days. After briefly testing it a couple of times, to say I'm underwhelmed would be an understatement and I'll likely be returning it soon. The scent itself sure has potential due to an interesting and enjoyable evolution from the top notes to the drydown. It sure smells sexy, elegant yet approachable and I can only imagine how it must have been back in the day. While it's not modern smelling by any means, it certainly doesn't smell dated, just more appropriate for 30+ in a slightly more than casual environment. Compared with the EDT, it smells nicer, more rounded and noticeably different, however, the EDT lasted longer and projected better. Unfortunately, in its current formulation (mid 2019 batch), it is incredibly soft both on skin and on clothes. It probably projects for about an hour and you might still be able to sense it 4-5h later if you bury your nose on the actual spot where you sprayed it. At that point it's just an enjoyable, yet nothing to write home about, generic amberish vanilla with slight spicy hints. For example yesterday morning i had one squirt to the chest of Valentino Uomo Absolu and 2 squirts of Opium around the same area. The Uomo was overpowering Opium from the get go, but by noon, it was all i could smell. In the evening i was still getting whiffs of Uomo, while Opium was gone even if i tried to sniff the shirt fabric. I swear I'm not kidding when I say that it performs worse than about half of my Zara clones, which is sad but i guess somewhat predictable because, you know, reasons and L'Or(d)eal. As far as I'm concerned, given the price/performance ratio, I'd say it's not worth the trouble. Was hoping to try M7 Oud Absolu next, but after this I'm not too keen on blind buying anything YSL again.

Vintage Parfums Corp era batch 3090. I'm guessing 2003. I'm zooted at first sniff. Black currant vanilla bomb! This scent is absolutely mf breathtaking. Now this is how you use vanilla in a mans fragrance. Too many modern day vanillas have given me ptsd. This reminds me of the black currant vanilla scent from the vintage bath and body aromatherapy days but with a higher end YSL Parfums corp era twist. I love how the fruit at the top is a sharp purple fruit against the creamy vanilla. I can't stop sniffing this. This doesnt resemble kouros but it has the quality from the parfums corp/Sanofi era. I have nothing like this in my collection. It sort of has an addicting grape bubble gum ball note far back behind the dominant herbal fruity vanilla notes that keep making me smell to get closer to it but it still keeps its distance. This has a shyness to it that makes it even more so alluring. Like a beautiful man or woman that is insecure. This almost reminds me of Ultra Male but Ultra Male if it was made in 1995. Like if Ultra Male got a 23 and me test done Opium edp is its daddy. After smelling Ralph Lauren Purple label, Ultra Male, Escada Magnetism, coach for men edt, Sauvage Elixir, now this- i'm starting to easily distinguish a genre of what i'd call 'Creamy purple' scents. Purple dnas are so intriguing and gothic and masculine almost like a French gothic castle. Purples are SO much better than blue scents imo and so rare to see perfumers go this route. Opium edp just might be the king of these. The refillable purple blue bottle with the under water submarine peep hole has me even more lost in a dream. What an incredible presentation dna scent and quality. I know nothing about the Opium line until this scent now I must know more. DO NOT BUY THIS. LEAVE ALL THE VINTAGE BOTTLES FOR ME.

let me open with... This has become my signature scent, finally found one. not every one can pull this off, surprisingly, i can! i have to remind you guys that this one is strong but i believe it doesnt slap you in the face cause of it warmth. its strange cause i quite dislike one million (the cinnamon/immature sweet that appears after a while) this one is also kinda sweet but because of the right amount of (lets say) ''woody vibe'' it becomes warm and gentleman there is a kind of poison/opium/sharpie-like extract in there what some people pherhabs may not like, it gives it the umph what this one needs to be a true signature scent. al the people talking about winter and summer scents are sometimes so tiring. when a scent matches you as a person - you can wear it all day all night all year long.!!! however, i can imagine in summer you would like to smell more fresh. btw: dont worry about the new bottle, the scent has only gotten stronger over time ! original - 10/10 scent - 10/10 sillage - 10/10 projection-10/10 MASTERPIECE LOVE LOVE LOVE

I’m familiarizing myself with a 2018 bottle (from an eBay seller) and I think it’s a really solid unisex fragrance. Really makes you wonder why L’Oreal or whoever would discontinue this EDP, even if they would have to have YSL reformulate it. It’s so well blended and addictive, and really that’s what a fragrance should be. There are so many unique and great smelling and performing perfumes out there that just don’t have that quality that makes you keep coming back for more. For me, this has that winning quality to it. Now, I haven’t tried the older formulations of this, but even if they are initially more potent they probably wouldn’t last as long due to age. I really like Super Dacob’s comparison video on YouTube titled “Yves Saint Laurent Opium Pour Homme eau de Parfum Review.” Side note: I think the black current note is present in just the right amount - not too sweet or overpowering IMHO. Of course I’ll have to spend some more time with this one to see if my initial thoughts check out:)

This was my first purchase for myslef upunitll then I used to buy my dad fragrances which I knew I could sneak. It is like a bloke giving his mate a set of spanners, and then knowing he could ask to borrow them. Well I purchased this, and it was an EDP. I think I only bought it as the perfumery counter women was hot! But that did not amount to anything for a 14 y.o boy with a 28 y.o femme fatale. This did smell slightly like my mums spice tin. Cardamon, cinnamon, cloves with a sweet amber musk espeically in the EDP. The EDT is poor in comparrison. It goes on really nice and just ozzes a spice bazzar in India. However in England I found it is not very welcome as the natives go around opening doors and holding their nose saying you smell like a Indian takeaway. Funnily when you where it in other countires which do hate Indians it is really nice and I am always asked what fragrance I am weearing. Funny that.

The definition of an oriental if you ask me. Heavy fruity opening which almost smells fermented. The sweetness intensifies and a near boozy amber-vanilla accord emerges. It smells like the mid 90's, whereby a heavy vanilla base is present. The black currant, vanilla, and amber blend make way for a fairly dense and near gourmandish scent. More mature and reserved in style and is not something I'd wear casually. Don't know how tolu balsam smells but I've seen it in various fragrances and it always leaves this sort of waxy or ''balm'' like quality behind. Perhaps ''balsamic'' isn't the right word but it's waxy nonetheless. Performance is great, with good lasting power. Good one from Cavallier, though sadly discontinued like almost every YSL classic. 7.5/10

A vibrant juicy picked sugary fruity blackberry (easier to explain than blackcurrant) dipped in a vanilla runny rich glaze. So many sleep on this vintage 90s gourmand - Possibly the king of vanilla fragrances. Even surpasses Le Male in hall of fame for me. INCREDIBLY French! Like an edible French desert. If the star anise scares you - I get little to none of that in the EDP - only the EDT. Its like they reversed the top and bottom notes to make the EDP. $350 for a 50 ml. is legit given the quality and concentration - I almost get more of a parfum/ elixir strength than an EDP. Cant speak for the non - purple blue plastic container version - later versions had just the glass. Be patient and track this down once you see it!

Recently happened upon a bottle of the new EDP and it's a very beautiful fragrance. Deep, rich and smooth, it's a dense oriental with niche refinement and a heavenly layer of woody sweetness. It is very strong too and if oversprayed would be somewhat cloying and unpleasant. 1 spray is the way, with a suitable dress code as this is not a casual scent. Perfect though for a mature/manly guy who can really 'carry' it, it could smell very metrosexual on a young hipster. It's flamboyant but sober and comforting too, needs age and strength to 'make it happen.' Beautiful composition, I always wanted the vintage EDP but never found it, so this new formulation will suffice. Royal, sensual & exquisite 5*
