Parisienne

This one is so nice! I do find that it has a very sharp “acid / sour / powdery” opening, a blast that lasts just a few seconds but it ́s there and it makes my nose feel a little bit itchy. I would have believed this has a citrusy note but it doesn’t ... maybe it ́s the blackberry combined with the powderiness of the rose? I am not sure, but I understand that some people might not like that quick but sharp blast. However, once that thing fades, this is a truly delicate feminine and elegant rosy scent. A beautiful floral, worth enduring the initial sharpness. So beautiful !! This is very versatile, wearable for everyday use, to the office, to dinner with friends, to a romantic date, to a wedding I ́d even say.. though I do not think this has such a great performance to endure a wedding party hahaha, but it is elegant enough and beautiful enough. Appropriate for all year round, from winter to summer, during the day or during the night (you need to have at least one fragrance in your collection that is as wearable as this one). I do not find many people my age wearing this fragrance (I am currently 27)... most of girls my age (here in Argentina at least) are still wearing “teen-like” perfumes like DKNY be delicious and so on.. either that, or they are all wearing La vie e ́st belle.. so this one is not common in my social environment, and I always get compliments with it. Longevity: I like to say it ́s great but its more on the moderate side... 6 hours aprox. Sillage: starts with a sharp blast, and then it becomes moderate.. by the 2nd hour it sits closer to the skin. Bottle design: it ́s nice and simple.. I am not crazy about it but I don ́t hate it either haha. Do recommend it, might repurchase it.

I received a sample of this back in 2011-2012 and I vividly remember getting complimented on it. It stuck with me because prior to this scent I was only wearing Lolita Lempicka and I had people tell me it smelled bad (it doesn’t, it’s my favorite). But YSL Parisienne smells so high-class it’s no wonder I was complimented for it. I just recently ordered a 1oz. bottle of the original EDP and it smells exactly as I remembered: cold, synthetic, posh, rich-bitch-energy. It smells exactly like the inside of my mom’s old makeup bag, with powdery cosmetic residue lining the bottom of the cheap plasticky zippered pouch. Don’t let the connotation of “cheap” make you think this is a cheap smelling fragrance—it’s the opposite. Have you ever been able to find a perfume that can replicate that exact smell? Probably not. It’s unique, and it elicits a very distinct memory. I think most girls/women can relate to the excitement and mystery of the first time they found their mom’s makeup stash, and how grown up it made you feel to dust a little powder on your cheeks with the plasticky brush that came in the compact. This scent is the olfactory celebration of when girlhood turns to womanhood, and you go from candy smelling children’s cosmetics to rosy and powdery smelling adult cosmetics. It embraces the unnatural scents women encounter every day when putting on their face, and the melancholic reality of no longer being a little girl. Not for everyone. If you like more natural smelling fragrances, this is NOT for you. It is truly a synthetic masterpiece. Such a shame it’s been permanently discontinued and substituted for the rancid floral mess that is Mon Paris.

I found Parisienne EDP on a second hand webstore at a great price. I hadn't tried it before, but was interested enough to blind buy it. Being so late to the Parisienne party, it reminds me of later scents such as Black Perfecto EDP and especially Black Perfecto Florale EDT by Guerlain. Where BP and BPF start with a sour candied cherry note Parisienne instead leads with a tart raspberry blast (noted as blackberry and cranberry). The following dried roses are similar enough in all three, whereas the vinyl in Parisienne is compared with a smokey note in BP and BPF. They are all both girly and mature at the same time: the fruity-flowery playfulness subdued by the smoky-vinyl haze. Parisienne is a bit sharp, especially in the opening, a chemical feel to it like scented erasors or coloured markers. There is not that much of a woodsy base on me, rather a creamy skin scent after an hour or so. Its predecessor Paris is detectable, which is fun and reminds me of my teenage years (although I was a Poison girl back then). I am not sure Parisienne suits me now either, not that age matters, but rather where I am in life at the moment. After work and then house work I apply it sparingly to become someone else for a while.

Parisienne starts with a heavy dose of juicy, dark, sweet but not sugary blackberries, accompanied by rose and peony. I'm not a huge fan of violets and I smell some violet here after a while, but it's okay as it's not the center of attention and the berries keep it from becoming dusty and too retro. It just adds a powdery floral note. I also sense a hint of wood in the background. The perfume feels classic and feminine in a young, elegant way. So far I would call it a very pretty fruity/berry floral. The drydown is a bit more weird and interesting. It really does smell like the inside of a cosmetics bag, completely with face powder, liquid foundation and woody shavings from a lip liner. I wear make-up almost every day and enjoy it cause it makes me feel confident and comfortable, so this is a familiar, positive smell to me. I'm glad there's no old fashioned lipstick scent though, just a hint of rose. I like Parisienne, but it could really last a bit longer. After a few hours it becomes so weak, and I'm not one of those people who have problems with longevity all the time. I wish it could find the more intense flankers in a store and try them, but no such luck so far.

Berries and flowers with a french charm!!! I like this fragrance, despite it's very quiet and almost unnoticeable on me. Sour cranberry undertones is what I exactly like in it plus nice blackberry on pink peony background with tender pink roses. Romantic and impressive at the same time. But... YSL, please, make it stronger. Too quiet, despite I like everything except it in this fragrance. The bottle with YSL brings me back to my Paris journeys memorials. It's as luxury as this romantic city. High class! p.s. For this moment YSL is my favorite brand between luxuries perfume brands in general. It has french elegance and charm. Never overpowering, not depending if I like fragrance or not. p.p.s. And there is no vynil on me luckily:))) My father used to collect it, when he was young. I have enough of them at home. But it could be catchy: Paris, old famous french songs like Edith Piaf"s... Awesome!

When I was a teenager, a little less than 15 years ago, I was obsessed with Paris. I had romanticized the shit out of the already romanticized city, and I wanted to live the rest of my life there. I had been gifted a perfume I didn't like and I went to change it. The bottle design and name struck my attention, and I bought this. I liked it but it felt too heavy for my age and style. It was the time of Lanvin's Marry Me. I still wore it rarely, every New Year's Eve. A wave of nostalgia struck me recently and I kept thinking about it. I ordered 50ml from the best dupe shop in Greece and I fell in love. It smells identical and feels just right. I can now appreciate the fluffy rose, the fruit and the vinyl. It feels nostalgic in a way that doesn't hurt, probably because I hadn't connected it to many memories. If you find it and smell it (not blind buy appropriate), grab it. It's one of a kind.

Omg I'm in love with this stuff. I've just finished my second bottle and I'm very sad. My husband comments on only a few of my scents when I wear them, but this is the only one that every time I wear it, he has to tell me I smell good. Or says, "which one is that again? I like that one." Every. Single. Time. I would say it's his favorite, lol. To me it smells like rose, violet and berries! And now that I see vinyl on here I smell that too, and that's amazing because I've always enjoyed the smell of a new cosmetic bag or such. This perfume I manage to go through so fast, which is rare for me because I'm notorious for not finishing them. The longevity is not the best, but definitely not the worst. It's good quality. Projects well. Lasts forever on clothes. Sweet but not too sweet. Feminine. Good for any occasion. Lovely.

Ok so I am not a lover of rose at all, not in any shape or form, or wait am I? I never found a fragrance that had rose I liked until this one. Yes there is a prominent rose here but it's been so well done so delicately that it's not that heavy icky rose that I am repulsed by. I don't know how YSL did it or if there is another scent that helps blend in the rose more smoothly. Honestly this is a gorgeous fragrance. If you are repelled by rose of course you might not enjoy this but give a sample a try. I have got to say that I might actually love this one. It's so soft, feminine, perfect for most ages. Not a real teen scent, but perfect for 20's and up. I do not find it mature smelling (I am 46) and could wear it as can younger or older ladies. I'll report on the longevity later as I give it time to wear on me.

This was a successful blind buy for me but definitely not a safe one. Perhaps it has been reformulated but I don't understand how people can smell the vinyl note enough for them to dislike the whole perfume. I smell blackberry liqueur before I smell anything else. I really wish it lasted longer. It's such a pretty scent, with a bit of an edge. I quite like the musk-stick-like musk in this! It's prominent without making the perfume as a whole "musky". Anyways, this is the most feminine perfume I own. This is to be worn with a Lirika Matoshi dress with Lana Del Rey playing on a gramophone while picnicking in a field of roses, not that that's everyone's epitome of femininity.

This was gifted to me when I was 17 and it was and always will be one of my favorites. It’s posh and flirty. Coquettish. It reminds me of watching sex and the city and gossip girl at the same time. It’s almost a coming of age fragrance in a way? It’s fresh and youthful with an elevated poshness that adds some sophistication. It’s for a young woman who lives in a big city and loves to wear her Manolos and knows the best dinner spots to take friends. It’s for a chic young woman, is the perfect way to describe it. I love the way it peppers the nose with the right amount of musk and sweetness. It’s not heavy or cloying but it’s very much satiating to the olfactory senses.

Another of my favorite floral perfumes that cannot be missing from my collection is the wonderful Parisienne. Musky and powdery floral. With fruity, floral, woody, earthy, musky notes and a characteristic note of vinyl and lacquer that reminds us of the smell of makeup powder. Parisienne opens up something synthetic in a very original and sexy way because of the vinyl, first sweetened by fruit, then turning into a powdery scent of violets to magically intertwine with roses. Now the fragrance smells of dusty roses with a soft woody and musky background. I love how Parisienne smells on my skin. It smells like roses in a very elegant and sensual way.

I owed it to my husband again (he find this perfume lovely). I got this from my husband for my anniversary and I think it is indeed very sexy and delicate. Not offending at all, flowery, classy, lady-like, bit powdery but not to overwhelming like No.5 and not sticky sweet, as other pink flower fragrances, love the violet and peonies in it, and the first burst of berries is not candy like, almost natural. In my opinion, it is not a recommended scent for young girls. But perfect for seductive woman in the 30s like me (opsss). Elegant indeed and would definitely repurchase any perfume that my husband love :)

Violet flavored SweetTarts candies, dropped in a cup of rose and berry tea. I simply adore violet and rose in fragrance, and they're so clear cut here. The accord of vinyl isn't obvious (to me) until after some hours, while it's in the final stretch and waning, after the florals have dried down a bit and the earthy notes begin to peek through the tart violet haze. It's a lovely, feminine floral -- not very fruit forward, just a slightly tangy sugariness which is nice. Very happy to be the proud owner of this one, especially after having heard it's been discontinued.

This was the second designer perfume I had purchased. I remember being a teen and feeling like a superstar as I strutted down Rodeo Drive to the YSL store. I don't remember why I decided to purchase this particular perfume, but it was definitely a great choice. Before this perfume, I had only worn sweet/candy-like perfumes. But the musk and sandalwood notes of this enticed me and definitely helped my taste evolve into something more mature. This was not as long-lasting as my other favorites. I was still devastated nonetheless when it was discontinued!

I haven’t worn this in over 7 years. I thought it was a more grown up fruity scent back then. Still youthful, but would make me smell like I was in my 20s instead of my teens. What stood out was the berry, violet and vinyl notes. I liked the advertisement too. To me this smelt fun and sexy. I asked my then boyfriend what type of woman did he imagine smelling like this. He said a teacher. Ugh, I could only imagine the teachers I had in school and that wasn’t the imagine I was going for. I let him kind of ruin this fragrance for me.

This is a very classy & elegant scent. The maturity in this smells sophisticated, very beautiful & long wearing. Only a minimal amount is needed & it projects divinely. On myself this smells like a beautiful powdered rose floral with soft & sensual fruity notes to compliment the powdery floral , This scent is perfect and versatile for different occasions. I love wearing this to work when I’m dressed in my lady business attire, very soft makeup a hair bun & this perfume is the icing on the cake. Lovely❥

I love, love, love, this fragrance. I am a lover of all things rose and sandalwood. Parisienne foots the bill for me. Totally sad that it's now discontinued, so I'm nursing the 0.5 ounces that I have in my 30ml. I have some that will do until I find a backup for my almost empty bottle: 1) Pure Grace Nude Rose by Philosophy, 2) Modern Muse Le Rouge and 3) Modern Muse Eu de Rouge by Estee Lauder. Update (12/15/2021): I found a 90 ml and I’m over the moon!

Hottest and sexiest rose ever! I love the bold mix of rose, berries and vinyl. Unusual but so romantic. I love how vinyl is not overwhelming rose but it gives this fragrance the 'urban' feel instead. Overall, this is such a deep and sensual rose fragrance that has modern vibe in it. For me it is not scream 'Paris' but it smell like what a fashionista would wear. The longevity and sillage are impressive. Love this edition the most. Original is the best.

Bohemian fragrance : unusual, sensual and creative. That same one who gave gift of life to vinyl in perfumery & enclosed the lilac sky of Paris in a perfumely-bottle. In this scent the initial ghostly lightness is replaced by a subsequent trail of expensive fragrance. Dry peony and rose, violets, dusty-sweet blackberries and a little smell of dolls. In it feels a freedom and truely French chic. On my opinion, this scent was ahead of its time

I can't find adjectives which would better sum up what's already been said: elegant, feminine (ultra!), romantic. I fully agree. As a non-fan of most roses, it was a pleasant surprise to fall in love with Parisienne at first spray, when I was looking for something else entirely. Powdery violet, sweet berries and nostalgic vinyl blend aptly to make this light rose youthful, timeless.

I’ll never forget smelling this for the first time. My beautiful friend who I hadn’t seen for awhile came over and I immediately asked her what she was wearing. Sure enough it was Parisienne and I immediately bought a bottle. A really gorgeous, somewhat complex floral with vinyl notes, and this made me fall in love with vinyl! When it’s done well, it’s phenomenal.

A sweeter Insolence. Has a very retro feel to me. Probably violet. I think this is quiet a brave perfume for the time - it doesn’t go near fairy floss sweet, rather lets berries do the talking. I get the feeling this isn’t a huge seller for YSL. it’s dropped off the radar and it’s all about Mon Paris now. Reminds me of its Great Aunt, Paris.

This was the one of the perfumes I used to wear during college , it brings back so many memories, I love the scent of the rose and the violet so beautiful . I agree it’s very light weight and doesn’t last long but the first spray is what I love the most and that’s why it will always be in my collection , otherwise i prefer oriental scents

I adore this perfume. It's been my signature for a few years and I wore it on my wedding day. I love love love the EDP it's gorgeous violets and Roses with a sweet hit of berries and lasts for around 6 hrs on my skin and days on clothes. I was bought the EDT for Christmas and it's nowhere near as nice so I would recommend the EDP!

A favourite but I just can't smell it on myself for long enough. I love rose based fragrances, & the red currant makes it not too sweet. I need to buy some more to see if I get the vinyl notes! Great for any occasion, not too heady & should not offend anyone. I have had complements wearing this.

This is a very beautiful & sexy fragrance. It's sad that they discontinued it. I would describe it as uplifting , sweet floral. It smells very designer, very expensive. Very distinctive in a good way & I got complements when I wear it.

I just blind bought a partially used bottle of this on Etsy and I love it! It’s exactly how I imagined it would smell based on the notes. I actually really love the vinyl note. It smells like a synthetic berry floral in a good way.

Not sure if its discontinued, but I haven't been able to find a bottle from a department store or YSL website. This is my wedding scent. I decided. I won't use it until that day. Its just fresh, exciting, alive, perfect scent!

I love this perfume so much. My boyfriend got it for me for valentine’s day and i sniff it from the bottle for fun all the time bc it’s that yummy. It’s sweet, rosy, feminine, and berry fruity goodness! Intoxicating scent 💋

Must be that Blackberry-Vinyl-Rose odd combination, but I dearly loved this scent. Completely underestimated, mysterious and pleasant. A big yes for this one, unfortunately discontinued, as many other good scents.

My signature scent. Now that I know that there is a vinyl note in there, I’m even more excited about it. It’s classic with a edgy twist. Normally I don’t love rose fragrances for me, but this one is just playful.

This simply just cheers me up every time I spray it on me. A masterpiece with well balanced peachy/berry and rosy smell. It's so suitable for a spring or early summer day. It's the bottle that I will repurchase.

OH WHAT'S THIS??? I JUST LOVE IT!!! Smells like a new car, fresh laundry filled with lovely violet & blackberry scents. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL & MYSTERIOUS PERFUME. I'd buy it a thousand times.

One of my favourite fragrances. I love the rose and violet notes. I don't get the vinyl note personally, but I love it all the same. It's a shame she's been discontinued.

This is my winter favourite. I wear this when I dress up in cozy but elegant knit dresses It's as fruity as I can bear, with a warm almost smoky aftertaste on my skin.

It is really fruity. People are saying it smells like vintage makeup so that I tried this, however, I think it smells nothing like makeup/lipstick.

Have they reformulated this and made it weaker? I had it back then when it was newly released and it was such beast. But I find it now weaker

my bottle has started to turn, I think. Still a very beautiful airy-yet-sexy floral. The vinyl note is playful. I want YSL Paris, now.

I love this perfume! It is light and sweet and clean. I get a lot of compliments on this one, and it is my go-to for spring/summer.

Lovely delicate smell. Kind of reminds me of Palma violets! Rose scent is definitely a leading note.

I still don‘t get it why the heck YSL decided to discontinue one of their best selling fragrances?!

Where do I begin? Let’s start with the memories I associate with this perfume: My ex-boyfriend bought me another perfume from the Tokyo Milk Dark Femme Fatale collection, (a straight-up in-your-face heavy white floral with a smoky base, La Vie La Mort), and after we broke up, I was thinking about how scent is closely associated with memory, and I wanted to forget, and so I knew I was in the market for another perfume. So I took some girlfriends out shopping, and in the end we picked this little pretty bottle out. (Probably as far from La Vie La Mort I could go) Just the weight of the cap indicates its worth. It feels heavy, and luxurious. My only complaint: the words “Parisienne” only appear in microscopic letters at the bottom on the bottle. As a makeup artist, this opens with a very familiar smell – a splash of berries with the characteristic vinyl (used in nail polishes, and some cosmetics, I believe). I didn’t think I’d like this strange note, one of a kind, but I suppose its my nose recognizing this note and immediately I think – glam, beautiful, and that strange type of confidence makeup brings me. Then most definitely, I get a steady, dominating rose. I can’t really smell the other flowers, maybe a little violet, but definitely a proud rose. Don’t get me wrong – this is not a generic, old-fashioned, boring rose; it is a classic, confident rose with an attitude. I think it is very appropriately named, it makes me think of a colorful, vibrant night in Paris, in a little black coat and red lipstick (you know that image...). Sometimes I imagine a funfair evening or an amusement park ride late at night. Just a punch of colors smashed together. It’s beautiful. The dry-down I can only describe as “anchoring” I guess – I do smell the wood, the patchouli, and I think it compliments the rose perfectly. Bought the 3oz bottle at Sephora, about half gone by now. Sillage is moderate. Strangely, I find this is more popular with the ladies than with guys, which is totally okay with me. It lasts all day on my skin, from morning to midnight. And lol, this has become my “break-up”, “moving-on”, “back in the market”, “Proud solo” fragrance. Whenever I have getting over a relationship, I reach for this. It’s cool, pretty, and reminds me of days of healing and finding love again. For: A classic girl with an attitude, a perfectionist and a wild dreamer. She doesn’t need a man. She is independent. Rose is her weapon. 9/10

Parisienne is a gorgeous blend of berries, violet and rose. Sophia Grojsman knows how to work with rose and proves it with this juice. I remember the really sensual advertising campaigns with a sexy Kate Moss on a bed with big roses bouquet then wearing a leather jacket on the Alexandre III bridge in Paris, all in an atmosphere of morning dawn. Very carnel, but the perfume itself is not really sexy for me, rather elegant pink flowers and fruity. The peony and the vetiver in the back bring a bit of freshness to me, making it not a fruitchouli or just a simple berry scent. I like this perfume, last pretty well and it's a powdery scent where the berries and violet are well emphasized. If you tend to like these notes, this fragrance will appeal to you, jackpot if you also like roses. It is not a simple scent, full of contrasts. A bit of a boudoir tho. Sophisticated but not classic chic or bourgeois, a slightly sensual but still very cold, I think it's perfect if you want to break codes, disrupt the surroundings a bit and add a twist with your scent. Unfortunately I understand that in 2023 it is not so popular anymore, because it is too subtle compared to the little sister Libre and the trends of the moment, and therefore the production has been reduced a lot. It's a shame, but trends come and go, at least I hope so for this perfume which still deserves some recognition. Being from Paris, it doesn't really remind me of a Parisian girl IMHO but it seems that for people outside France (and YSL) yes (according to a lot of reviews below), so that's good to know, and shows again that perceptions are different from one to another.
