Rive Gauche Pour Homme Light

I agree this is probably the best barbershop fragrance. Rive Gauche, this one and the original, is the reason a guy would even want to wear a barbershop fragrance. Undoubtably masculine, assured, confident, comforting, and pleasant. Has the shaving creme smell. Very smooth and well blended. The light version is different than the original, although it still has the original DNA. The main difference to me being the citrus, which is beautiful. And it has a fresher feel than the original. Definitely more wearable. I’d say you can only wear the original in cool temperatures. This one, however, is wearable even on warm days in the mornings or evenings. However, it is still best reserved for cool or slightly warm days or evenings. I would not wear this, even this light version, on a hot day. You also only need a couple sprays. Rive Gauche is a gentleman’s perfume. I prefer this light version to the original as I think it’s more versatile, and more appealing with the citrus. This fragrance is up there with the best men’s fragrances ever released. It’s lovely. Very smooth. Men will respect you and like you for wearing this. Women will find it assuring on a man and may also find it alluring.

i just got my rg light today ! a small dream came true (see my signature scent) however...if there are great admirers of RG and only have the original in the metallic can...consider yourself lucky... (1) because you have the original formulation of the true juice (2) except for the (somewhat harsh but ok ) opening the light version isn't that different from the original... it is a bit less in longevity but not much... so...ratatataaaa Conclusion : I adore ...RG intense, RG original, and RG Light....;o) 9/10

A lovely woody/floral fragrance. It lasts quite a while too. You get nice wafts from this. It's a really gorgeous smell. Another finely crafted scent from YSL and, I think it's up there with the best.

I had the luck to buy this very cheap. The bottle look very cool! However, the scent is not much different to the original. I actually cannot really make difference... Definately not light and not appropriate for summer, but still amazing as the original! ;)

I've owned an OG black and white can since 2023 and have used it sparingly, knowing the liquid gold it contains. I've tried countless different barbershop fragrances over the years, and nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to the beauty of the Rive Gauche Pour Homme DNA. The only way I can describe it to people who've never smelled it is if you smelled the most luxurious, luscious, decadent shaving cream smell you could ever imagine. Buttery-smooth and creamy, with a sparkling, almost metallic effect and infused with an addictive anise note. Like a shaving cream for the Greek gods. Zeus would shave with this glorious juice. The best part? There is zero modern day super-amber overload in the dry down (I'm looking at you TF Beau De Jour). The result is THE quintessential barbershop fragrance, non-offensive, nothing challenging to the nose, just smooth and creamy goodness. Just received a sealed box of this flanker I've had my eyes on for years, and after spraying both side by side, I honestly think this version may actually beat the OG for my personal usage. This retains 90% of the core Rive Gauche DNA, yet with a clean citrus and mint blast in the opening that imparts an almost mentholated/icey effect, which "cools" down the intensity of the coumarin, making this much easier to wear in warmer climates. The geranium is also noticeably amped up in this compared to the OG. I'm an expat in an area of Asia where heat and humidity are almost year-round and unrelenting. The light flanker is much better suited to daily wear where I live. The issue? I have one can of this and one can of the OG. This will never become a daily driver for me unless I want to burn through it in next to no time. M7, Jazz, and Opium Pour Homme are all still in production. Don't get me wrong, all fine fragrances in their own right, but YSL's decision to discontinue Rive Gauche Pour Homme yet keep something less "immediate" to the nose like Jazz is an extremely strange decision that is up there with Gucci's harebrained decision to discontinue Envy For Men. 10/10

I found a can of this on ebay last year around feb. Its a 125ml can with about 80-90ml remaining. It was a blind buy and a bargain at £70. Ive never been fond of the original but I love barbershop scents. The anise in the OG is too much for me. This fragrance is true to the name. Same dna, just fresher. With a minty, almost cold/menthol opening. Slightly metallic, green, earthy, creamy. Just a stunning fragrance. Ive had it now for about a year and a half. It its a fragrance that im still appreciating and its growing on me with every wear. When i first purchased it, the weather was pretty cold (Uk winter) and I found it not too great for cold weather. Kinda too much with the cool minty freshness. Fast forward a year later and I wore this on many evenings during summer and this is where it shines. Warm nights, just smells classy and sublime. I imagine this bottle will last me another 3-4 years but if I see another ill definitely be grabbing it. For my personal taste its an improvement from the orignal as I cant deal with the strong anise note. The anise in this version is still present but not as prominent which works for me. Performance is great. Longevity good. Cant complain. 9/10

Could very well be the best barbershop fragrance ever created. Even more so than the original RG pour homme, but it was a very limited edition offering and not many people showed interest in it back then. I actually bought it the year it was released and have owned probably 5 or 6 bottles over the years. More wearable than its predecessor, and by that, I just mean more wearable in more situations because of its fresher build. The citruses in this are simply amazing. That opening of citrus, geranium, mint and lavender is spot-on perfection in perfumery. The trio of this, M7 Fresh, and Kouros Eau d'Ete were legendary flanker releases back in a time where YSL was bringing out classic after classic. Of course, Tom Ford's fingerprints are all over these timeless creations.

I agree with krmarich & endymion that this version of Rive Gauche strays very little from the original. That's not really a bad thing in my mind as Rive Gauche is not only my signature scent, but one of my most versatile, enjoyable, masculine & highly complimented fragrances. Of course when I saw this on sale I just had to grab a bottle. Don't be fooled by the reference to 'light' in the name; as this is nearly as powerful as the original. There's only just a hint of mint in the opening and a slightly more muted anise note to tell the difference. If you can still find this and you love the original version, do yourself a favour and grab a bottle.

Been wearing this one quite frequently and it is such a joy to wear in the heat. Similar to the original, only this one has more citrus followed by a mint twist. Some will argue and say they smell identical, but I disagree. While the DNA is there, this version is brighter, fresher and easier to wear. Such a shame its discontinued while terrible synthetic scents like La Nuit and Lhomme are still being produced.
