Trench

Wow, this is both more unique than I anticipated, and also a fragrance I didn't expect to like, but actually fell in love with at first sniff. I went to the YSL Beauty store in my city with hopes of finally trying Babycat and Tuxedo, but sadly both were out of stock, so I tested most of the 'Le Vestiaire des Parfums' while I was there, and WOW, this really impressed me, I'm surprised it hasn't been talked about more tbh, since I've never heard so much as a mention of it, wasn't what I was looking for, but made the trip worthwhile. It opens up with a bright and zingy Tangerine with citruses behind it, that clash with a sweet and slightly bitter Fig, soon after the opening dissipates, and gives way to Iris and a bit of Neroli, on my skin this Iris is quite unique in how it comes across, it's not Intensely floral, buttery or powdered like most renditions, it comes across to me as clean, relatively muted slightly powdered and airy Iris. Which is complimented and accentuated by the subtle Neroli adding a cleanness to the composition, with the Tangerine and Fig staying around in the back as an enhancement of the scent, adding both a slightly cream, and a slightl bitter-sweet texture respectively. As the drydown elapses further, clean musks start to come I to slowly phase out the fruits and the scent slowly fades away, definitely smells unique and I can see this having a good deal of mass appeal; the notes clash at times on my skin in the opening and mid but not in a bad way, it's more like they contrast eachother whilst also enhancing the overall scent profile if that makes sense. Wearability wise, I can see this being a good dress up or dress down fragrance, definitely screams Spring to me, but it's bright and smooth enough to be pulled off in summer and autumn as well. I'd say it's completely unisex in my opinion, but something about it leans slightly feminine to my nose, not a deal breaker at all though as if I had a full bottle I'd wear this quite often. I got around 6 hours longevity, with a soft-medium projection on my skin. Overall, it's very much a hidden gem in the Private Line in my opinion, definitely surprised me, and I can definitely see it surprising others too in a pleasant way, you should get your nose in this if you have the chance!, definitely made my long trip worthwhile. Final Verdict is a 8.9/10

This is one of my favorite scents I own for a number of reasons. Being a dude I never thought I would like a powdery perfume, or one with much iris in it until I smelled this one. It did come across as fem the first few times I smelled it, but wearing it really changed my mind. Light iris mixed with the fig and citrus, all in a musky base really does it for me in the summertime. It has just enough powdery feel to make me feel incredibly fresh and clean, and I generally despise powdery creations, but this is so well done and works so well, it opened my mind. I also am not fond of soapy creations, a warm weather staple, they feel to me like un rinsed clothing, or you forgot to rinse off in the shower. Personally I dont want to smell like a bar of soap, so something else was needed to give me that fresh feeling, and I am very fortunate to have found this. Everyone says it doesn't last, but I get a solid 3+ hours of projection, and after a 12 hour shift, I still am getting very strong wiffs of powdery goodness. There is actually not much in my collection that really has this lasting power, especially a light summery scent of this type. Some snobby reviewer below recommended an Arquiste scent as an alternative, which I excitedly tried. The openings are similar, but that particular perfume very quickly turned into a massive soap bomb, so not at all an alternative to this whatsoever. I have made it through half a bottle last year, haven't worn it much in the colder weather, but I already know I'll pony up for a backup when warmer weather shows again. There really isn't anything else out there that combines these notes so well and gives me the same feeling as this one, so I really don't mind the price. When you find the one, you'll pay.

Wow, this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever smelled... I was on a trip to Vegas when I decided to visit a Neiman Marcus to smell some niche stuff, since where I live, we have neither. Out of all of the 40+ fragrances I smelled, this was the one. Oddly enough, I did not have any interest on YSL and much less this specific fragrance, but after hours talking to the sales rep he seemed to understand my taste and directed me to this, and oh boy was he right... This is everything I want on a everyday fragrance. It’s difficult to describe it as there’s nothing like it out there, but if I had to compare it I’d say it’s a mix between Dior Homme + Musk Therapy + Allure Homme Edition Blanche. The end result it’s a powdery, airy and citrus beauty. A creamy soft tangerine with just the perfect amount of sweetness and tanginess. The iris in here doesn’t come in a makeup/baby powder way but works more as a note to soften and blend everything to perfection. Absolute instant love and definitely in my fragrances for life. Only complain being that it doesn’t project that much, but hey! That’s life, nothing is completely flawless.

Trench is clean, powdery, fruity and lightly sweet and spicy, with a touch of elegance and luxury. It is a unisex fragrance imo, so it doesn’t matter if you’re male, female, or somewhere in between, you could rock this daily. You can also wear it to any occasion due to its versatility. Whether you’re going to a wedding to not outshine the bride, a funeral to mourn the death in an appropriate manner, or a court hearing to buy some sympathy. It’s like having a speech that convinces everyone of your sincerity and innocence. I just wore this for the first time during a workout, and it makes me feel like I’m standing in a five-star hotel lobby, way underdressed. The sillage is moderate, surrounding you with a cloud of sophistication and airy charm, and the longevity is decent. I could see it as a safe office scent, it smells so luxurious and well-blended, definitely for making an impression for an interview or an important meeting. As a young guy with some feminine edges, I really like this, it's definitely giving a clean girl/guy aesthetic in a modern setting.

I adore Prada Infusion d Iris. Im a big lover of citrus + iris in perfumery. Iris can be a bit matronly or mature on its own. I love how the citrus here rounds it out, makes it brighter, cleaner, fresh. It brings out the best in iris' soft earthy nature. The iris in Trench is so creamy, soft & clean. This is very similar to Prada's IdI but with better longevity. The citrus is different (bergamot vs tangerine) and the base here is a bit muskier. The tangerine adds a more orange creamsicle vibe. Im not a big fig lover and I dont pick up a heavy fig note here luckily. The iris in Prada Infusions is more powdery & soapy. This was love at first snif. I immediately bought the 4.2ml bottle. Its classy, sophisticated, a woman of wealth would wear this. Its office safe - it doesnt leave a huge scent trail and keeps a very close bubble. This is a great signature scent and daily wear fragrance. I wear this to work and it lasts all day, surprising for a citrus / Iris perfume!

Love this. There is no mistaking this is an iris focused perfume. The citrus, neroli, and musky ambrette showcase it beautifully. The whole composition is exquisite. I know this is supposed to be unisex, but it reads feminine on me. Maybe it behaves differently on men., but I wouldn't know. Maybe I'll try it out on my nephew sometime in the future. My one complaint is the silage is abysmal. I have a manufacturer 3.5ml dab on sample and had to use almost half of it to develop even a modicum of silage. Maybe the issue is this needs to be applied with a spray, but I'm wary of purchasing a bottle for fear it may perform a badly as this sample. If this were cheaper, I would take the risk and purchase this in a heartbeat. But at the price being asked, I'm not willing to do that. Too bad, since it really is a very sophisticated scent.

Gosh, I just fell in love with this one after getting a sample of it. Really didn't expect to love it, reading about it I wasn't really interested but dang it’s a beauty. I can't stop smelling my wrist when I put it on...it just makes me happy. The fig in it is so prominent and lush, reminds me of my family's garden growin up in Croatia, walking out and picking fresh figs that are warm from the sun. It’s so realistic. As much as I love this on myself, I think I would love it as much if not even more on a man. It’s just so sexy and truly unisex. Reminds me strongly of Chanel Allure Edition Blanche but even better. Only thing I don't love about it is the price.

Damn, this is quite good - clean, yet slightly citrusy, slightly powdery, slightly sweet. This remind of of Figueir Eden from the Armani Prive line. Longevity on this is excellent - this will stay solidly on the skin for 10 plus hours & projects a bit for about 2 hours then sits closer to the skin. The quality in this is very high - niche level though somewhat simple. I must say, this line is impressive. For winter, u need to try Velours & everyone seems to love Tuxedo. This one - 9/10

What a fragrance. I am used to monster perfumes with nuclear performances, but this was really nice for a change. It is perfectly unisex and well liked by the public. A really sensual fragrance, which is heavy on the iris, musk, and powderyness. Works perfectly well for all seasons and all occasions. The price is a bit steep, but I cannot say that there are a lot of fragrances that smell like this.

I'm surprised how good it is! At some point I can smell almondy notes, but iris and bergamot are more prominent. I've had Prada Infusion d'Iris for 12 years now and got tired of it. This one smells like a more niche upscale cousin of Infusion D'Iris to me. They are not dupes, but rather in the same category. This one is more interesting and grown up. Love it! Going to be great for summer days.

I need a full bottle of this; soapy and clean iris & neroli bomb drenched in uber fizzy tangerine juice. Airy, clean, a touch sweet & musky, very refreshing. This is like spraying your sun-soaked body with a fruity refresher after a long bout of sunbathing. Perfect in hot weather, moderate projection, my little sample spray lasted for 5 hours today.

Beautiful clean neroli and iris, perfect for the high heat. Reminds me of the Prada Les Infusions line, D'Homme and D'iris Cedre. But it's got a softer feeling wherein to Prada is sharp and bracingly clean, at least initially. When I run out of Prada I will probably replace it with this. Perfect for spring summer wear. Scent 8/10 Performance 6.5/10

This is such a love for me. Perfectly unisex and bright, citrusy opening, while also being grounded at the same time. It dries down quite soapy making this one of my favorite everyday fragrances. Maybe a little less for winter but nonetheless, makes me feel so refreshed when I wear it.

This frag really well matches with the image of wearing beige trench coat just like its name "Trench". It has luxuriously elegant, soft, and clean smell. But I think this one is more likely to be worn by women not men, due to its some powdery accord in it.

Beautifully sweet, citric and definitely iris. No way this could be considered as generic or dull. The ambrette and fig seem to give it a resinous profile, maybe elemi? You'll feel confident wearing this, like a well made trench coat on a rainy day.

Beautiful rich, clean iris with neroli its so good for warm weather, i love the sweet citrusy opening but the dryfown its musky, irys heavy powdery and elegant, i want it, i love the smell but i prolly wont use it

One of the best iris fragrances for spring and early summer. Trench is a crisp and well composed delight to wear. It's become a staple in my collection--the epitome of chic.

On my skin its very weak, It's so sad because I love it.

Trench is an creative take on iris, muted yet discordant, accompanied by unpredictable notes. It is a powdery, softly musky scent, sheer and weightless throughout. It is warm yet bright in the gentle manner of sun peeking through clouds. Iris is my favourite note, and I'm always keen to try good iris scents, particularly when they are unusual. Trench has a slightly discordant fruity opening. The fresh, zesty citrus feels at odds with the sweet fig. As it settles, the fig, muted yet fleshy, gives smooth body, paving the way to the floral heart and musky amber base. I love how the fig is used here; very subtle yet adding texture. I'm tired of fig-dominant scents, so its use here is refreshing. As it develops, the soft iris emerges, powdery and perfect. More floral than rooty, it is pared-back and utterly elegant. The ambrette adds cosy muskiness, complementing the iris beautifully. The neroli is a slightly unpredictable addition alongside the iris, lightly orange-y, adding a smooth white floral quality. It becomes even smoother as it dries down, with a refined, polished leather note coming to the fore, like an expensive handbag. It marries beautifully with the increasingly powdery florals and musk. It fades to a musky-powdery skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a unisex daytime scent, transeasonal and versatile like its namesake. An elevated clean scent, Trench manages to be interesting. It is high-quality, well-blended throughout and nicely rounded throughout the drydown. A luxury take on an effortless everyday scent, featuring iris. 4/5.

"A citrus scent featuring dry cedarwood and white musk to create a solid and comforting base. Hints of bergamot and tangerine sparkle on top like drops of rain. Elegant iris belts the fragrance with its structured and refined silhouette, affirming a strong yet understated presence." Turned out to be a nice fresh fruity scent with a soft powdery base; it's very elegant (and yes, VERY understated) but a little too commercial for me.. If it was marketed (and priced) as such, it would've been a big hit. *If you want something more "niche" and justifies the price, try Fleur de Louis by Arquiste--also a fresh iris with orange blossom dominating.

I thought I didn't like this fragrance at first, but it must be my skin, the citrus and ambrette becomes sour in a way that I don't love. But I sprayed this just on fabric, and I'm so glad I did. I'm a big fan of iris and powdery fragrances in general, and Trench is gorgeous. It has a bright, refreshing quality, and a coziness from the powdery iris. It smells very clean, it would make a lovely dryer sheet scent that is different from your typical dryer sheet. It does have a similarity to Infusion d'Iris from Prada, but this is stronger for sure, with more prominent citrus.

Very lemony and citrusy yet a bit powdery with iris, very fresh, refreshing. Will be absolutely great for a hot day. Or I can see it on a rainy day too, will have to try. As it dries out on the skin it totally smells a lot like Lancôme’s iris dragees from privet line but this one is a bit more citrusy and iris dragees is more sweet, also Lancôme iris dragees has more iris and I feel like it’s more loud. Trench becomes skin scent very fast. So projection and longevity is so so. Very similar tho.

A great powdery, almost chalky warmer weather iris option. I feel like most of the designer Iris scents i've encountered are colder-weather oriented. So this was a nice discovery. Smelling the tester strip now, I can't quite determine if this feels like a more masculine, earthier iris scent or like a powdery grandma iris. So far I've gotten both. Also I don't find the citrus notes to be as present as the fragrantica accords suggest.

@leotrimc If you're looking for specifically bergamot & iris, I strongly recommend Zegna's Florentine Iris--it's a little more masculine but truly highlights these two notes; on the contrary, Trench is more about juicy tangerine (fruitier) and the iris is less pronounced (more general powderiness).

A strong and powerhouse type alternative to prada infusion d’iris. I get more cedar in the opening. Curious because its in the base in deed. But the middle is exactly like prada. I think chanel is a little different. It is my cup of tea definately as prada is my favourite.

This reminds me a lot of Centauri Antheia -- a sweet sweet iris with this citrus fizz note to it that almost feels carbonated. Something about it smells like Haribo Coca-Cola candies -- it's sweet but fizzy and def citrus-y.

A beautiful citrusy iris combo

It’s a beautiful perfume but just a tad too much on the powdery scale for my particular taste right now. It’s reminds me of the older makeup smell. The citrus opening is crisp and airy but the dry down almost reads heliotrope but I didn’t see that listed. There is a faint sweetness to it which for me makes it a bit more feminine leaning. I’m happy to have tried it but it wouldn’t be full bottle worthy for my collection.

Not groundbreaking... I wish it were. A fresh, bergamot opening, a soapy feel, and a gentle powder. The drydown settles into a soft, gentle musk. So it's very pretty, not much to say about it, but it's not unique. Especially having Infusion d'Iris, it's not necessary, but this scent is far more beautiful than the one I'm comparing it to. There is a review below saying the dry down resembles burberry beat EDT, I cannot agree more, it was once my favorite perfume. In trench, citrus is a lot sharper. It’s perfectly unisex but I would say it would be gorgeous on a guy.

Another heliotrope fragrance disguised as an iris one. Smelled before like 1000 times. Light, citrusy, powdery. Vintage-leaning. Femme-leaning.

Why does this smell like minty toothpaste to me?

On paper, Trench sounded like everything I love: a soft floral with iris, rose and delicate musks. Unfortunately, it never came together on my skin. Instead of a smooth, powdery floral, I get a dense, sharp accord that overshadows the beautiful notes beneath. To my nose, it has an almost solvent-like quality that lingers throughout the wear and prevents the iris and rose from truly shining. The composition is undoubtedly well crafted, and I can understand why many people enjoy it. Sadly, my skin amplifies whatever creates that sharp “perfumey” facet, making it impossible for me to appreciate the elegant floral heart. A disappointing experience, especially considering how much I usually enjoy iris and rose fragrances.

I certainly wanted to like this and was excited to sample something with tangerine. But it is far too floral and musty to me. Citrus, not so much, though I caught a brief hint of the tangerine on my first wearing. I might give it a third wearable as the weather cools off more but it’s not a like I’m afraid.

It smells like old lavender powders

Trench starts off fresh and pleasant enough, a clean citrus-woody brightness that feels crisp and effortless. But don’t get too comfortable—the freshness fades fast, giving way to a soapy, almost stifling neroli that leans heavily indolic and suffocating. What could have been elegant turns sharp and cloying, as if the florals were left to sit in dollar-store detergent for just a little too long. Then comes the iris, and things take a turn for the worse. Instead of adding a creamy softness, it leans bitter and powdery, clashing horridly with the already nauseating neroli. Sharp, and oddly old-fashioned in a stiff, overly formal way that feels more like a dated cologne than a refined trench coat—just terrible. Just imagine your grandpa's over-laundered, starched shirt that’s too tight at the collar—constricting and uptight rather than effortless or clean.

I am surprised that citruses are supposed to be important notes in Trench. I smell mostly florals. A lot of Iris indeed, which makes it feel very powdery. The shop assistant insisted again on how much all the perfumes from Le Vestiaire des Parfums are supposed to be unisex. I actually tried four today : this one, Tuxedo, Cuir and Velours. Tuxedo ( my favourite!!!) and Cuir were IMO unisex. Velours was unisex in the same way many Serge Lutens fragrances like Chergui are supposed to be. But already too sweet although some men can get away with it. Trench, on the other hand, while still pleasant, seemed the least exciting of the lot. But most of all I would say it definitely leans on the very feminine side. So don’t blind buy if you’re a man and you want something obviously masculine.

Trench is a happy, uplifting and zesty scent. Unisex leaning slightly feminine. I absolutely get the comparisons to Infusion d'Iris (which I have loved for years) with the biggest difference being a prominent sparkling bergamot note that gives Trench an almost effervescent quality. The citrus hangs around longer than the opening too, which is nice. The iris and neroli are fresh and clean, without smelling soapy, and it dries down into a soft skin musk. My biggest complaint with this scent is the longevity. I don't mind a scent that doesn't project much, but I want it to last more than a few hours on my skin especially at this price. I get slightly more out Infusion d'Iris and since it's a fraction of the price, I'll likely stick with that.

I would like to preface this by saying I am an iris fan, and also enjoy neroli and ambrette in almost everything. So I was hopeful that I would like trench. Unfortunately, this perfume has a sharpness to it that I dislike, and there is something about this that smells like cigarettes. I do see some similarity to Prada Infusion d'Iris, but I find that one more likeable (even the sub-par 2015 reformulation). I feel there is something missing in this perfume, like a lack of depth in the base, something to smooth it out. On my skin, it just smells like I smoked a cigarette but sprayed an inferior version of Prada Infusion d'Iris to cover it up.

Ooh la la! I have a 3.5 ml sample and I can appreciate the artistry of this perfume because it is reminiscent of glamorous perfumes of yesteryear. Initial spray is a soft powdery iris with a citrus undertone. The musk is gentle too, discreet. Where’s my French silk scarf? I look forward to trying others from this house collection before they disappear. Check out the You Tube review by Super Dacob. To be honest, I’m not much into irises; I’m only starting to look (sniff) in their direction. But this iris framed with vibrant citruses on a musky-wooden base, in contrast to most of other iris fragrances, does not plunge me into melancholy, which would be too much in the circumstances, but lifts me up instead. Notably, the fragrance is very elegant and is appropriate in any situation. A wonderful replacement to a trench, which is missing in my wardrobe))

I get a watered down more powdery version of musk therapy. This might sound bad but I really like the musk in musk therapy and this - I can also appreciate that this is a more intimate wearing experience. With that being said it’s not worth it at full price. But if you find a good deal on it like I did, and you want something musky and a little flirty that you can wear to the office. This would do it. Although don’t expect any compliments.

Don’t like this one at all starts out too feminine and floral and not pleasing..I expected this to be at least decent considering the note breakdown but it’s not worth the price tag..if I blind smelled this I would definitely say it’s a ysl fragrance has the same dna as ysl frozen cologne but mixed with the iris it’s bad..for the price tag there are way more better options!

Another masterpiece from Yves Saint Laurent's La Vestiaire des Parfums line. A truly comforting scent that adds a touch of refined presence, but still sparkles in the night to make you stand out of the crowd. Yet Trench has the discreet aura not to make its appearance known to those around you straight away. Simple elegance.

This is cold, crisp and elegant . It is very similar to Lady Blanche by penhaligon's , and Infusion d'iris by prada. The iris here is very comforting, a little powdery and green. Doesn't project very much on my skin, but lingers for about 4 hours on me. Very beautiful though x

Yes they mean musty. This smells like some took a wet trench coat and iris and steeped it in alcohol. It’s stuffy but only in the way a trench in the rain can be. Smells like I would imagine a model in London would.

Individually these notes are really good but collectively in this fragrance they are rancid. I think the neroli in this turns milky on me and it literally made me nauseous and gag! I have to get rid of it.

Very floral and musty for me. Maybe it needs a lot more wear and attention, but my first impression is that it leans a bit too feminine for me (even though I don’t mind crossing the marketing chasm).

This is a very nice scent. It's soft, fresh, clean and powdery, with a fig touch that makes this more creamy. Also this has some similarities with Guerlain promenade des anglais.

Just tried this and I am in love,i get citrus,but soft and Iris,not overpowering,and the cedarwood is peeking on here and there ,lovely,my next purchase.
