Tuxedo

Tuxedo is a warm, sweet fragrance, with soft, toasted caramellic hues blended among dark patchouli woods and a very subtle powdery elegance that results from a Rose and violet accord that sits deep in the heart. It almost seems as if it’s going to be a gourmand in the way of something like Pure Malt but the rose and violet seem to keep it just on the edge, giving it just enough formality to keep it out of the “ooh I want to eat this” zone, and more along the lines of something that will make others want to lean in closer and eat you! What I mean is it’s sweet, with a significant warm and toasty vanilla-caramel flavor comprising the majority of it, but it’s also sensual and a bit dark and smooth, a romantic type of scent as opposed to just a “foody” type. From what I understand, Tuxedo contains copious amounts of ambroxan, and considering the warmth, and sweet fuzzy quality of its texture, I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case. Ambroxan is somewhat chameleon-like in the way it can take on different flavors, but it always has this distinct, warmth and fuzziness that give it dimension and a unique, underlying sweetness. That quality is present throughout here. Performance is solid. Tuxedo is very, very long lasting with about mid-range projection. It diffuses very well and has present, noticeable sillage. Though it may be best in late fall and winter, the Ambroxan infuses it with a certain freshness that makes it so it’s not too heavy and therefore capable in the spring and summer as well. I can imagine this appealing to a broad audience. It has both mainstream and niche appeal. Overall, it’s comfortable and easy to wear, but perhaps best suited for evenings and special occasions (don’t let that stop you though, I wear this in t-shirts too). Final rating: 9/10 Side note: Tuxedo reminds me in a lot of ways of Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Though they are very different smells, BR540 having more obvious woody notes and a different sort of sweetness, much redder, crystalline and sugary-sweet at times, they both have their moments where they intersect, particularly concerning their texture and how their sweetness is ensconced in a very warm, cloudy-fuzzy buzz. I would say 540 is the sweeter of the two, and a bit brighter and more playful (it still smells great), and Tuxedo is the darker, more elegant and sensuous scent. Both are quite different and if you were tonown both it would not be redundant. Update: The more I wear this the more it seems like a "safe" alternative to Thierry Mugler's Pure Malt...and I mean that in the best way possible. I love Pure Malt, I'm a huge fan of the fragrance and it's been in my top 30 for over 10 years running. But it's not an easy fragrance for me to wear to work. It has a lot of bold things going on--a BIG whiskey note to start it off, followed by an intense chocolate and vanilla gourmand blend, and finally another BIG patchouli note like that found in the original A*Men. While I love how all of these aspects work together, they're a bit intense for wearing to work, and even certain parties if it's a small indoor gathering. And sometimes the fun, unencumbered personality of Pure Malt can even work to its detriment (for example at any function that may be considered somewhat formal). But Tuxedo smells kind of like a compressed version of Pure Malt. There's the rich, caramellic and dark rose accord that dominates the beginning, and reminds me of the heart phase of Pure Malt, the resulting blend of the whiskey and gourmand elements. And then there's the patchouli in the base, which here is a cleaner, less "hippie" variety than that which you find in PM, much better for situations that require some discretion. While PM may be the more interesting of the two, Tuxedo is the safer choice, and in some ways feels like a more mature or sophisticated (even though it's actually simpler) take on the Mugler. For example, I wore Tuxedo at a relatively small Thanksgiving gathering (about 12 people), with about 5 solid sprays, and didn't feel self-conscious or worry that I was overpowering people once during the night. And that's not because of poor performance or anything, but because Tuxedo is just safer overall (and yes, somewhat closer to the skin than the huge Pure Malt). Had I worn Pure Malt, I may have felt more aware of my own scent throughout the night and had some preoccupations about it.

I got a decant from Olfactoryfactory and fell in love with the scent and bought a full bottle after. I feel like Tuxedo is a mass appealing scent profile that everyone will like except a small few who might not care for spices/patchouli. Truthfully, it is so well blended it is difficult to pull individual notes at times in a good way. I don't feel like any one note really dominates over anything else. It can be worn year round but shines better in fall or spring nights when the weather isn't too extreme hot or cold. Longevity and sillage is moderate but I don't think it is trying to be any louder than it needs to be as that isn't Tuxedo's goal. Good for the office for this reason. I would say the scent profile is unisex but leaning masculine. Tuxedo might actually be the perfect name for this scent. It can be dressed up for sure but doesn't necessarily need to be. But if you were to smell this, it would garner attention of those nearby with a quiet confidence and gives the air of sophistication bc you wont smell cheap that's for sure. This is actually a good example of a designer frag that can be worn in almost any situation but you will likely never be in the same room as someone else wearing the same scent. This would probably be a good signature scent if it wasn't for the price that will keep people away. (I got my bottle on ebay lol) 9/10 for me and in my top 5 frags. I keep going back to it bc i love the smell. Would be a 10, if the longevity and sillage was a bit better and if the price was in the $100-$200 range for a full bottle. My favorite dumb-reach fragrance in my collection! This is something I got for my 18th birthday, so I've had it for at least a year now. I still reach for this fragrance every time I have no idea what to wear for the day. Even for special occasions, this thing is still a no-brainer to me. It's a well-blended patchouli, it doesn't smell very earthy to me and it doesn't offend anyone if you wear this. This scent, to me, is sexy and inviting. It's mysterious and dark. Personally, I don't really get compliments from this fragrance, but I never felt "insecure" when wearing this. Definitely a nice confident booster for me. I put a big dent on bottle in a short period of time because of how much I love this fragrance. However, I wouldn't recommend this fragrance to someone who prefer fresher and brighter scent, because this is the polar opposite. Unless you want to smell nice on all occasions, this is for you. Great versatility also, can be used in the day but don't expect it to perform very well in the heat. (Thailand's heat is no joke for fragrances like this) I don't know how well it performs in other part of the world, but I'd love to know!

YSL Tuxedo is one of the most understated yet outstanding fragrances I've ever had the pleasure of wearing. It exudes warmth and class - it (figuratively) smells like old money - the dense chocolatey patchouli radiates outwards, announcing your arrival as the best smelling person in the room. The opening is bright and well balanced, with the sparkling bergamot and sour violet combining to great effect against the sharpness of black pepper. At this point it resembles Terre d'Hermes EDT, but only for a fleeting moment; until the coriander and rose come into play, then it veers into chypre territory with a distinctive sharpness underscored by the ubiquitous patchouli accord. I smell a distinct leather note, similar to that found in Alaïa EDP; though I suspect it's a mélange of the patchouli smoothing out, heavy and sweet, the warmth of the amber and quite possibly the sweet vanilla - though that doesn't work its magic until later. The dry down is unparalleled. Vanilla, patchouli and amber combine to create a warm, sensual and intoxicating scent bubble, which envelopes the wearer whilst whispering "Ma force réside dans mon élégance..."

I finally found a great deal and bought a full bottle of Tuxedo after testing with a decant. I have a bottle of Rochas Mustache EDP, and indeed they are quite similar. The famed and pompous frag critic Luca Turin wrote of YSL Tuxedo: "Utterly dull and unremarkable generic guy thing sold for real money". I think I understand where he's coming from, but I view this scent profile differently. There is a dullness to the scent, but I interpret it as understated, sophisticated, formal and masculine. I agree with how most people perceive it, having a formal, upscale sartorial association. Fragrance name is on the money. One of those smell associations with "old money", belonging in my collection of what I call "closet of a monarch" fragrances. It reminds me just a bit of Oxford by Roberto Ugolini, which makes sense since you're going to wear black Oxfords with a tuxedo. Certainly, the patchouli is quite prominent, but the corriander and black pepper are stronger than given credit for, to the extent I think the "woody" accord may be more prominent than represented on this page.

I've bought this last week on my way home from vacation in the Airport Tax free. Sweet lady saw me browsing Nishanes and said you oughta smell these instead, since we're moving away from summer. Tried the Babycat and Tuxedo, bought the Tuxedo I just loved that smell, hard to describe but a very nice smell, the patchouli is just oof! Love it! Anyways, here's what you wanna read. I put this on for work for the past few days and had like 4 - 6 collegaeus coming up and smelling me saying I smell nice, they wanted to know what fragrance I was wearing and got comments like you smell different! (In a good way of course, she kept smelling me!) I've gotten alot of compliments with this within a week than I have with my other fragrances which I've had for a year. Collection is growing and growing. I'm gonna order a babycat soon aswell, cause that also smells very nice. But I think Tuxedo is my go to for now. Haven't gotten this many compliments since I wore Y EDP back when it released. YSL really is killing it with their fragrances.

Just purchased a 75ml bottle of Tuxedo from YSL’s website. I purchased a sample of Tuxedo last year. I fell in love with the fragrance profile. Before this purchased, I owned The Tux by Maison Alhambra, and Suits by Fragrance World for over a year. Both have “macerated” and became beautiful. Both amazing clones! I felt Suits was superior. After doing a side-by side between the original and Suits, I was taken back. Suits seemed to be less synthetic, more well blended, stronger projecting, and over all more appealing to me. If I knew what I know now, I would have saved my money and never bought the original. If you are on the fence between all three (the original, the tux, and suits) I would say just buy suits by fragrance world. I love this profile, and really wanted to believe the original was superior, but I was wrong. I think suits by fragrance world is the king of them all. Save your money and buy suits people!

One of the best fragrances I’ve smelled all year. The open was very black pepper forward which is usually not my go to since I don’t prefer spicy fragrances but the magic of this one is all in the dry down. It managed to balance fresh and sweet notes elegantly. The patchouli was well done and adds this green touch that smells like a breath of fresh air and the vanilla is subtle but there. This one will require multiple edits to my review because it’s certainly complex but I am Super impressed and will be adding to mycollection immediately. Update: I’ve layered it with a favorite rose and violet scent of mine and it softened the pink pepper in a really nice way. If you’re a gal or guy who may own this one and want to soften the edges layer it with a floral gourmand like Kimberly new York’s artsy and you’ll get something really beautiful fresh and delicious. This one is an 8/10 for me

I always believed the name says it all. But honestly, the first time I tried it, it didn’t click. The scent felt sweet, almost teenage-like too playful for what I expected from a name like Tuxedo. Still, something about it told me there was more hiding behind that sweetness. Maybe I judged it too fast. So I gave it a real chance cold night, special event, suit and all. I wanted to meet Tuxedo on its own terms. Boy, oh boy... this time it hit completely different. Everyone in the room even a few fragrance collectors kept asking what I was wearing. It was smoky, boozy, and sweet, but in a mature, elegant way. It carried presence. Confidence. It matched the vibe perfectly. Funny thing is, it smelled familiar this time then it hit me. It had that same classy oriental warmth as Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Desert Oud, but a bit sweeter and more refined.

Can’t speak for, nor agree with the nay-sayers on this thread, except but remain perplexed. This is by far the best/sexiest men’s fragrance in my collection (and i have a massive collection). Caught on to it a bit late because although i heard the hype but disregarded for that very reason....the hype. Often find fragrances that are hyped turn out to be overhyped when i smell them, and still wear some scars of my novice days when i’d blind buy based on fragrantica or influencer comments. But not this one, funny thing is i actually smelled the dupe “winsome” first and was blown away so i went and got the original as well based that impression......and LORD the original is even better and smoother. This is has moderate projection, but the scent is a 10/10 for me.

That's it. I think I'm officially a simp for the violet leaf note. This one seals it for me. I love Fahrenheit because of the violet leaf note. What i love more about it is the very faint sweetness i get along with it, possibly from the orange and honeysuckle. But i wanted more of the above... Tuxedo takes what i love about the violet leaf note in Fahrenheit and elevates it to another level of " honeyed nectar" sweetness. This is exactly how i want my violet leaf "accord" to smell like, not vanilla sweet, but borderline honeyed naturally sweet. I found it. Add to that a regal ambergris note and an addicting patchouli-dominant drydown to finish things off and I'm swooning already.

Quite literally one of the reasons that I have the username that I have on this platform. This is a scent for the masculine, self-assured, confident man that walks in the room with a point to prove and don't have to say anything to anybody. I can't stop smelling myself when I wear this, and the performance is at least 12+ hours. I wore this in a Korean BBQ spot and could legitimately smell this over the food I was cooking. This stuff is NUCLEAR off of my skin. If you're not prepared for Patchoulli, rosy and violet leaf goodness, stay away from this one. Absolutely a staple in my collection and worth the 250+ price tag it comes with. 100/10.

This has become one of my favorite scents! I'm so surprised this isn't heavily voted as "unisex"! I have to believe some of that is just due to the name. I'm a 30 yo woman and find this to be completely unisex. I was traveling and stumbled upon the entire YSL Le Vestiaire collection in a department store. I already owned Babycat, so started sniffing through the rest of the line. This was the easy winner!! (being in the middle of Winter helped that, too). Very impressed with the longevity of this - ESPECIALLY if it gets on clothes, it will stick around forever. It does project nicely, too, but isn't overwhelming.

This one is worth they hype. I would give it a 10. Sophisticated, smooth, masculine, and high quality. Blind buy safe. I can't praise this one enough. From initial blast, i get notes of black tea, bergamot, dried fruit, and a crown royal & ginger ale type accord. It transitions to a warm and smooth suede leather, hints of rose and new car smell.The dry down is perfect, patchouli, melted vanilla ice cream, orange zest, resinous spice with a clever use of ambergris giving immense depth and luxury cashmere softness. Compliments galore. Versatile. Signature scent worth. Bravo Le Vestiaire des Parfums!

Tuxedo: a near perfect scent. A warm, slightly spicy (very slightly) mix of perfection: sweetened patchouli, ambergris and vanilla. It’s quite simply a stunner. It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful concoctions I’ve had the opportunity to wear over my 10+ years of fragrance collecting. This is what all of the fragrances like MMM jazz club, Bentley absolute - wish they could be. My recommendation is this: if you like warm, slightly sweet, velvety scents - save your money and buy this one. My words can’t do it justice - but this is about as close as one gets to perfection. 8/10

I have Taxco by Milestone. I have not smelled Tuxedo or any of the clones listed on Fragrantica (Moustache, The Tux, Suits), but the reviews for the OG match up to my experience with Taxco: booziness that adds an irresistibility, maybe the vanilla or rose (since Roses Vanille evokes the same catnip effect in me), does not project but stays a skin scent for a while. Good for year-round, day or night. I don’t know how to identify the patchouli to call this a patchouli fragrance. I have a patchouli essential oil, but smelling them side-by-side, I cannot detect that note.

I am currently wearing this as my scent of the evening. The opening to me is great but the mid to dry down is where this fragrance gets better. I definitely get the patchouli with the vanilla and the black pepper. The rose in this is definitely a masculine rose. My wife loved this on me every time she got a whiff of this she gave me a compliment. I know this definitely caught the attention of other people I walked passed and the people that walked passed me. This was a blind buy and I believe it was a good if not one of the better blind buys I made this year.

This is one of the most patchouli heavy scents on the designer market. What makes me love this fragrance is this warm spiciness from the patchouli and the more discrete black pepper. This is the type of fragrance worn by those refined and sharp leaders in the wintertime. It is not particularly seductive but is incredibly spicy and wearing it will make you feel like the most intelligent and mature person in the room. One of my favorite scents of all time. My two icks are the price and the fact that I can’t smell the vanilla in this...

Man, this is a great fragrance. Usually, I get a bit let down by hyped fragrances, but this one totally lives up to the attention it gets. To me, creating a really refined and sophisticated fragrance with a lot of patchouli is tough because patchouli can be so strong and bold. But here, it's blended so well with everything else. There are some fragrances where I like to try and pick out all the individual notes, but with this one, I just want to smell it as a whole and just get lost in the scent. 9/10

So classy! The name says.. Tuxedo. It’s fresh and clean. It’s well behaved, nothing that screams out but whoever is around you will be pleased by this scent. If it’d project a bit more like Nishane Hacivat would be even better but it’s a very beautiful worth to have scent. Occasion? Special ones,however , I can see myself wearing this more often than I would expect. It’s office safe, it’s ok to wear during the day afternoon brunch or happy hour meetings.. it’s a complete scent. YSL well done!

Exceptional. YSL is definitely my favorite designer brand (or even fragrance brand) along with ADG. Tuxedo exceeded my expectations, beautiful well blended scent, not too strong and definitely lasts long. Will be buying a full bottle before I get engaged. Side note: Even though both have completely different scent profiles, Tuxedo reminds me of Guerlain L'Homme ideal Extreme. Both are sophisticated, special occasion, date night gourmands that are unique in their own right.

Classy, masculine, intoxicating, captivating, sophisticated, sensual, seductive, delicious. This is an incredible piece of art. Beautiful, distinct, unique, and will surely turn heads; it will definitely capture the attention of people and they will remember the scent. Performance is satisfactory for me. Not versatile, this is a scent for special occasions, date nights, and intimate moments. Strictly a nighttime and cold weather scent. I love it.

I fell in love with this scent the first time it touched my nose. In the opening, you get sort of a zesty, floral opening that lasts ~30 minutes. What comes after is astonishing levels of richness, spiciness, unique sweetness that genuinely makes this an addictive, seductive, and smooth fragrance similar to Vanilla Diorama. It lasts 8+ hours on my skin, with decent projection; overall, if you need a signature scent for the winter, GET THIS.

I never really liked the YSL brand, but my perspective completely changed after trying Tuxedo and Babycat. I am now a big fan of YSL, and Tuxedo has become one of my all-time favourites. This fragrance is truly made in heaven. It has a warm, slightly sweet, and cozy scent with notes of ambergris, patchouli, and rose, presented in a masculine way. The name suits the scent profile perfectly. It truly embodies a gentleman's fragrance.

If I had to recommend one fragrance to level up any man’s collection this would be it! A beautiful yet masculine scent that garners a lot of attention. It provides the best of both worlds the uniqueness and quality niche lovers want, with the mass appeal of a easy going designer scent. Longevity is respectable at around 6-7 hours, perfect for special occasions, dates, events etc. My only regret is not buying a bigger bottle. 10/10

i own most clones of this fragance and i also own the real deal ( a 125ml tuxedo partial i bought from a friend of mine ) so i can layer both and not waste juice from the real tuxedo and all i can tell you is, NO CLONE IS AS GOOD SMELLING AS THE REAL DEAL, the real deal smells sooooo much more expensive, sexy, sophisticated, and even performs much, much better, whoever say otherwise is either LYING or copíng hard.

My 2017 bottle is running low so I picked up a new one and am disappointed. It seems to be watered down now and is 50% as strong as my older batch. Projection is weaker and it radiates at an arm's length with 4-5 sprays. It does seem to last 8hrs but it is quite the skin scent by then. It's been several months and performance hasn't improved. It still smells quite nice but it is just so much weaker.

This scent profile is an absolute 10/10 for me, I find it projects really well for the first few hours before fading gradually after that, longevity is moderate, maybe 5-6 hours. I do wish it lasted a bit longer but it’s still a great fragrance and for me projection and sillage is decent while it lasts. It’s pretty expensive but there are some great clones about if you can’t justify the price.

It is intoxicating for sure. Masculine with a hint of feminine. Ideal for cooler months. Not for humid and warm seasons/pleaces. Maybe okay for hot dry times. BUT BUT BUT the projection and longitivtiy SUCK. While everyone is talking about the beast-like longitivtiy it has, my bottle can't last longer than 3 hours. The batch is 22X11DS. I got it in mid 2024. in case anyone wonders.

I got a 10 ml decant of this for a really good price, I was curious. I find this to be really well balanced between fresh, sweet, warm, spicy. This is quite likeable and lasts a long time. It is close to the skin however, but the longevity is no slouch. Not a screamer, but it does what a man wearing a suit would do. Really pleasant for a date night, I'll be using it this fall.

To my nose, Sharp Patchouli does indeed have more Patchouli in it and projects more. This might be because its new vs god only knows how old. I like SP more, but this is still good. The vanilla is much more pronounced. It has great projection with 3 sprays and it kept this performance for nearly 6 hours until it faded into a skin scent until I fell asleep. I dig it... 8.75

I knew it was going to be one of my favorite scents in my collections the second I bought it at the duty-free store. Been told I smell like a sexy man everytime I wear this out. Lasts forever on me (scent stays on my clothes for weeks) and projects like crazy. Definitely my favorite in the YSL line and one of the best designer fragrances of all time in my opinion.

Rich, creamy vanilla patchouli. Despite many people saying it's only good for cold weather and special occasions, I disagree. I know I know, its obviously a winter fragrance, but it smells so exquisite it just has that dumb reach for every occasion, maybe just wear it at night though. I'm in love with this fragrance and personally prefer it over babycat. Mwah!

Dont let the "classy" reviews scare you. This doesnt come off as an old man smell. Just very proper and smooth, super inoffensive. One of the few scents I cant pinpoint to an idea or item. It just smells great. Mass appealing as well, I dont think this is one that will be as divisive as some make it out to be. Not quite worth the current price unfortunately.

fell in love with first sniff. way better on skin. needs 5+ sprays to project, as 2 sprays is too intimate. Lasts forever though. Super warm cosy vibes. Upon first couple days of wearing it felt like a more mature mans scent, but that has gone away as it just smells so good and addicting. Would be too cloying in summer, and just not right for sunny day time.

Omg i just blind bought this for around 200 euro based of all the raving reviews (also saying its totally unisex), and now me and my pocket is just wondering what all the fuss is about😳 It smells like sharp booze on me. I hope to god it gets better🙏🏻 Rifaaqat Adorn is better. Brighter and softer and smells more. For a fraction of the price.

This is a sexy & versatile fragrance. Fit all-year round. Unisex but the drydown leans a little bit feminine, still works great on all sexes. Sexy independent woman or charming well-dressed man. I personally don't think this smells like Decadence or seasoning.. Smooth violet leaf+vanilla+patchouli, lovely. Performance wise, moderate.

My longtime favorite fragrance. It smells like eating expensive honey while sitting in a blooming hillside full of grass, herbs, and flowers. There's something so addictive about it. It smells professional, sweet yet strong, spicy, and masculine. When I wear it, I feel like I'm putting on my best tuxedo and walking the red carpet.

9.3/10 Yea just an absolute masterpiece. This is the only thing that gets close to the DNA of farenheit le Parfum by Dior. Tuxedo is definitely more vanilla heavy than farenheit Le Parfum, and the nuances of the opening fade in the dry down and your left with a very pleasant patchouli vanilla scent. An absolute banger from YSL.

For the longest time DHI was my favorite fragrance in my collection but I decided to give this a try and it’s putting up a good fight. To me it’s so brash yet elegant at the same time. Absolutely love the slow fade of rose to patchouli in dry down. People agree as well, have not gotten one negative comment yet!

This project so strong and leaves a scent for them to smell. This is really great perfume. This is the first time I've smelt something like this because I'm a beginner. But to explain this, it smells like a very tasty apple candy being cooked at high heat while staying fresh. That's the best I can explain this.

It's a highly formal, full of personality, bold choice. I love wearing it on special occasions, but incredible for daily wear if you want to make an impression. That patchouli is just addictive, absolute perfection, incredibly done. The pepper, freshness, the spiciness, slight floral tones. highly unique.

Beautiful spicy and surprisingly mint-y patchouli that descends into masculine territory real fast. Not a bad thing at all. I really like it and I got it at a very good price. My only problem is the longevity. It’s absurdly short!! Good thing there’s 125ml of it!

Extremely refined and high quality fragrance. You have to be of certain pose to wear this. If you’re 20 years old and have broccoli hair this fragrance won’t suit you. This is for someone more mature and rugged. Amazing mix of patchouli, rose and coriander.

It says it right in the name - sharp patchouli. Has a faint smokiness to it as it dries down. Definitely can't wear it alone for every occasion but I've found it to be the perfect base to layer with any of your favorite fresh/citrusy frags.

I really like this. I do wish it had more projection. I wear fragrance for me and I love to smell it in myself. I am happy they make the matching body wash. YSL is a solid designer house. There are many great fragrances in this line.
