Y Elixir

My first fragrance review in almost 7 months! Lol. Good to be back. This is likely going to be a shorter review by my strandards. Lol. As someone who's gone through a couple of bottles of Y EDP now, and have now owned this for almost 6 months, wearing it in the cold, and the warm, its basically a brother to the others in the line truly. You could go track down my review of the EDP and it'll give you much of the same information. I don't really like the notes of this one, because in so many regards, it's hard to really pick any of them out that easily as wild as that sounds. My nose is so used to the EDP that when I smell this, it's like "Oh.... Ok.... This is like the already fresh EDP took a shower, added a really nice fizzy uplifting gingerlike accord (again, why I don't trust the notes), while still having that green apple linen fresh vibe. This adds a slight bit more of what a lot of dudes would likely call "mature" but to me, its just a beautiful play on the EDP, adding a really nice fizzy gingery accord. Longevity is good, as good as the EDP is for me, which is something I still faintly smell on skin the next day. Sillage is also good here, for an elixir, I don't know what to trust anymore, as the term elixir with Sauvage or Le Male equates to "nuclear monster", this doesn't have that quality, this does however have what you'd expect regardless. It'll radiate from you for long enough. I've had compliments on this long after I could no longer smell it so idk. Not much else to say here. I personally really enjoy this and like to throw it into my rotation when I want to wear the EDP and want to spice it up.

Y Elixir is absolutely in my top 2 favorite fragrances of all time scent profile wise. The incense note is amazing to my nose as well as the geranium and lavender. Personally I get almost 0 oud from this, which I personally like because I am not an oud fan. If you are looking for a fragrance where the oud is actually noticeable this is definitely not the fragrance for you. Like I said earlier, this is amazing scent profile wise to me, though the longevity and projection do leave something to be desired. Personally I find that it projects for around 1-2 hours. It stays a skin/intimate scent for a long time past that, maybe around 8 hours. However once it's dried down and finished projecting the lavender fades, the geranium fades, and it just becomes a woody incense smell. However, even in the dry down, while it is woody, it is still not an oud style wood smell. It is more of a classic oak and incense type wood smell to my nose. Overall I think this is a great fragrance though I would say it is not mass appealing and it is very different from the rest of the Y line. I would not blind buy and would always test in store before buying, especially with the hefty price tag of $190.

Considering with L'Elixir you're getting 90% the EDP, the MSRP is absolute bollocks. And so is the supposed "oud" note. Come on now. This is a quintessential shower gel fragrance without an ounce of anything that even nods to the direction of oud. Now, what's even more criminal is that 3.67 star rating. What? I mean yeah, you can make the argument that the gazillionth Y flanker wasn't exactly what the world needed. But objectively, on its own merits, Y L'Elixir is an outstanding scent - no way around it. Moreover, while the differences between Y flankers are moderate at best, as a man in his thirties, I welcome L'Elixir not only because, IMO, it's the best of the bunch, but also because, due to the overpowering sweetness being toned down, it's the only one that can (or should) be worn by the slighlty more mature crowd. The performance department is, well, just fine. Nothing to write home about but gets the job done. Overall a great 4x4 frag for any occasion imaginable, especially now that you can find it regularly for half the MSRP on discounters.

I think people are misunderstanding this fragrance. First and foremost for people who are complaining that this is overpriced for what it is, thats completely wrong. When Dominique was asked to create this for the house, he had to keep the fragrance within the line. Of course this is going to have that fresh, soapy clean "designer" type atmosphere to it. Its the Y by YSL line, he wasn't going to go and create something completely off the beaten path. Let me remind you this man is the perfumer behind Portrait of a Lady, he is more than capable of creating outstanding work. What you get here is incredibly high quality raw materials, the radiant woodiness is coming from raw materials that have been specifically made to do just that. Probably from a very well known chemical compound company like Givaudan which is why this fragrance is expensive. You're not buying the heights of perfumery. You're in the Y range don't kid yourself, you know what you're getting. This is well worth the money you only need one spray and it'll last all day.

Out of the box: I bought this because it honestly smells great. I already have the EDP but I'd say this isn't redundant at all, the Elixir is less sweet but equally bright, not really darker, a bit more elegant and mature. It's definitely way overpriced though, I got this at retail since discounters in my country don't have it yet, even after all this time. For now, it's worth it for me, just because of the scent alone, but I'll finish my review in a couple of weeks. Afterthoughts: Well honestly the performance is not the best for a supposed elixir, but is nice. This is definitely darker than the EDP after all. May get cloying if sprayed at 25°C or more. Projection is really noticeable for around 3 hours, consistently, but after some more minutes, it gets pretty intimate, with some whiffs here and there in 6 hours after applying. Lasts more on clothes tho, but that's kind of expected. If you like Y, I'd say you will certainly like this one as well, but definitely no one should pay retail for this. Get it at discounters.

I spent an hour at Sephora and could have bought any fragrance that I wanted and chose this one, should you? Probably not. Here's why I tested all the ones I was interested in and JPG Le Male Elixer Absolu came in 2nd place along with a few Tom Fords, but it's almost summertime so those are on the wishlist. Now, the feeling I got when I sprayed this overpriced and some would say underwhelming fragrance on a tester strip was amazing. Brought me back to the 1s time I smelled the original Y EDT, I was in love, captivated and mesmerized. Sprayed it on skin while I kept searching for something else, but this was beckoning for my attention. Elixer style, not really. Over priced, definitely. Ground breaking, nah. But, this is MY scent. Totally mass appealing, soapy sweet, generic, overpriced, fantastic, lovely, personal signature scent worthy and a PERSONAL love! I love this blend even if it's 80 percent EDP with some soap. This is ME in a bottle for an overpriced, dumb reach, signature scent and I love it!

This juice is fantastic! In my opinion, it's the best in the Y line by far! Extremely versatile with great performance. Ropion is a genius perfumer, he took the base DNA, removed some of the notes I don't care for (especially that apple note) and added some deeper darker notes. I don't understand the hate on this fragrance, other than it being new and different which people don't like. This is like a darker more mature take on the DNA, less playful. This is what I imagine the EDP Intense was trying to do. The opening is crisp and a little sweet, it reminds me of the opening of Le Parfum (2021) and it gives me nostalgia for a scent from my childhood. the signature Y DNA is present but modernized. I always loved the opening of Y Le Parfum but thought it got very boring in the drydown, this gets more interesting in the dry down. Some of the lighter notes give way to the oud and incense. I will have this in heavy rotation this summer, the first time I can say that about a frag from this line.

Got my bottle for $101 on Maxar.... I definitely smell the oud hours in. It is a western oud like Oud Noir, with a fizziness. Not that sweet at the beginning. More soapy clean. I get a lot of ambroxan and lavender. The ambroxan is the ysl y version that makes the line distinguished and brings them all together. This is a more mature scent. Very potent and long lasting. You can go nose blind from it. My favorite blue fragrance ever, and worth the money on discounters. Not EBAY! Any occasion grab and go. Also very classy and confident boosting. 10 out of 10 for me. 3rd day of wearing and after 6 hours, I smell the western oud as the prominent note.It's not animalic. It's like Versace or TF oud. It might smell sour to some. After about 15 hrs, I get a powdery ambroxan rose close to the skin as I wake up. I love this almost as much as Aventus, my sig. On skin about 10 hrs later,you get that rose and geranium. This is 3 dasy in. maxa....,

The more I wear Y Elixir, the more I love it. When I initially sampled it I liked it, but didn't feel an instant connection to it, but I grew to love it. A darker, sweeter, updated, more mature version of Y Le Parfum, itt is that but so much more. Ropion crafted this with a clea objective: maintain the Y DNA while creating something highly focused, sophisticated, and made to a much higher quality than previous Y flankers. Every time I wear Y Elixir, I notice more and more the subtleties dancing between the notes, the depth of the notes themselves, the way they contrast against each other. This is quickly becoming my favorite fragrance from YSL in stable that is already littered with so many masterpieces. This is a niche version of the Y DNA, and I think the price on discounters is completely justified. I wouldn't pay more than $120 new for it, but it can be found on second hand sellers for under $75.

I was never a believer when it came to "blue" fragrances. I thought I would never enjoy one because they were boring to me and I aabsolutely hated Sauvage, Dylan Blue, and Bleu de Chanel... but I sprayed this because I realized I've never smelled it and saw it in store, so I hit my right wrist one time, some inevitably ended up on my sleeve, (it's cold out, I had a sweater on) and I was surprised. I didn't hate the initial spray, so I let it sit as I went about my day. Every so often I'd catch a whiff of something and would think, "Holy cow, what is that!?" Then I'd smell my wrist and it was Y Elixir. I couldn't stop smelling it. Even now, over 30 hours later, it's still on my sleeve (again, sweater.) And I've already made up my mind. I need a bottle. This is the first non vanilla/amber/spicy fragrance that I absolutely adore. Next full bottle for me.

I haven't tried any other Y fragrance besides this one; I tested it through a free sample. Liked it so much that a year later I ended up buying a bottle. In my opinion, I'd classify it as a very modern woody aromatic fougere with a masculine blue shower gel vibe. It's very pleasant and rounded, versatile for any occasion, except extremely hot days, which I think it may become cloying to your nose. It lasts a long time on my skin, projects moderately, but always leaves a scent trail. It's a "no-brainer," "grab-and-go," "mass-appealing" scent. If you want just one "blue fragrance" in your collection, this one is certainly a great option, as long as you disregard the price, of course. Always try before you buy.

The temps were in the high 80s today in Texas so I had been craving this profile and OMG THIS MOTHER WAS SINGING ON MY SKIN TODAY! I get out my car and I usually walk to the front of the building to let my fragrances cook a little on my skin before going into the super cold a/c and this bad boy was leaving trails everywhere. Luckily on this stroll I ran into few gorgeous women & all eyes were on me! I had my cream polo tucked in with my navy blue dress pants KILLING IT!!! This was the cherry on top, I see this fragrance getting lots of hate but it definitely works for me. I have them all and this one is my favorite. The only one I dislike of all the flankers is the intense- THAT'S GARBAGE!

When I first bought this, I was displeased because it kinda smell like body odor haha. But if there's one thing I learned about designer fragrances, is you don't judge it on its initial scent. You need to let it mature in time. So I kept wearing it for a week and more, and I'm now loving it. It's unique, sweet and very aromatic. The sillage is also great and longevity is awesome. The scent is so well rounded and it changes depending on the temperature I'm in. I also tried leayering it with other YSL perfumes, and it creates an entirely different scent. I can wear it on cold or hot days, so I love the versatility.

This is the best in the Y line, followed by the Le Parfum and then the new EDT (not the 2017) then the EDP. This one is the more refined dressed up version of Y. I don't have the intense flanker, but I have most of the other ones, and I think this is more wearable than the juvenile EDP version, which also, contrary to the hype, lacks good performance . The only reason this is a like and not a love, is because the entire Y line is nothing compared to what YSL used to do in the past; things like M7, Jazz, and Kouros (not the new watered down versions of these, but rather the original power house releases).

This is so under rated in my opinion & the rating reflected on fragrantica is so inaccurate. Personally think that this is an extremely versatile well blended fragrance & garners me many compliments. Perhaps not being as sweet & slightly more mature than the EDP it may not be as appealing to the younger demographic but if your looking for a mature take on the Y DNA this is certainly it. Its pricey but that certainly doesn't deter me from buying something that I enjoy wearing & the great thing is that not every 2nd person is wearing it so makes it very unique to many Overall 9/10

At first, I thought it was the same as the previous ones from the line, I could not detect any differences when I smelled it on paper, but once I tried it on my skin I immediately got addicted to it. I can definitely smell the oud, but it's clearly a designer's oud, really soft, toned down and creamy oud, nothing too invasive or overpowering. For some reason, I smell black tea as a middle note and I like it, I guess its the geranium. I agree that longevity and projection could be way better considering the price, but it is a really magnificent fragrance over all. A masterpiece.

I understand where people’s expectations were at with this one, given the whole elixir craze. HOWEVER the fact that this frag is rated a 3.64 as of this review is criminal. It’s fresh, and sweet, and subtle in all the best ways but it projects all those things way off the skin. If this came out as a stand alone people would be psyched about it. I don’t 100% agree with the note breakdown, I miss the oud almost entirely, and I pick up some of the EDP live apple-y notes in the opening. Overall I’d give it an A-, easy blind but for the money.

Very metallic opening that persists. Smells like moldy grapefruit rind? The dry down is not terrible. The spray that comes out is like a watergun attack you only need one spray. And then re-spray in an hour once it finally powders down. It takes a very long time for this to grow on you but once it does it's like a hard to remove fungus. This is a good example of how a fragrance smells so much better when you aren't in the middle of it, but over time if you let it cook it rests easy in its splendour. Medicinal animalic woody.

A very pleasant scent, addictive, fresh, green spicy aromatic. It can be wearing during day and night and between all seasons... I think it's a safe choice even to buy this fragrance without smelling it before....!!!! It is moving on safe paths without moving out of Y DNA or losing the YSL ID. You know what you'll get... I love it. It lasts at least 14 hours with a strong sillage! It is way overpriced, the only one negative i found about it, but if you could find this at discount, go for it...!!!! Recommended!!!!!!!

I can understand why this is getting a bad rep due to it being an ‘elixir’ while not quite matching the other elixirs in projection and longevity. Disregarding the elixir name, this smells amazing. It’s incredibly well blended, without any screeching notes. You can get it for much cheaper nowadays at discounters and I would take this over Bleu de Chanel or Sauvage. It’s the Y dna with a lovely sweetness at the top, that remains well into the mids. An all weather, all occasions great fragrance. Just not a beast.

To be honest, I was a little let down. Its very similar to Y EDP. It has a little less punch and is more elegant and refined, but it is so close to EDP that I don't feel that it is necessary to own both. It performs a couple hours longer than EDP, but EDP is much louder so I perfer EDP in the performance department too. It can be found for $90, but I suggest a decant if you own EDP. Next up is Le Parfum and Intense. Hopefully I do not have similar views. Its going to be hard to knock the king off its throne!

I'm totally surprised every time I put this on, which is not a lot. I am going to wear more often to work for sure. Super pleasant while being a little unique, or at least more unique that the other versions. Not nichey but it feels like it's thinking about the niche side of perfumery. Not as much as Sauvage Elixir flirts with niche. Anyway, that's all subjective and what is for sure is that this is a very nice scent. It's certainly demanding my attention. Looking forward to putting this back on very soon.

Stop being childish and leaving bad marks because you can't afford something. If $200 is too much for you and you are too dumb to do some research, Bezos will gladly deliver shitty dupes to you all day long. I prefer to smell good and get layed. Meanwhile, I just ordered a bottle for $90 2 day UPS shipped. No need to get your panties in a wad because you are poor. Enjoy your 5 different versions of Imagination. By now you could have bought the real thing AND smelled good for once in your life.

I got this along with MYSLF parfum a few weeks ago and Y Elixer has become my 2nd most complimented fragrance in that short time. I am a 44 year old married man who doesn't care about compliments so this stood out to me as a very strong positive point for this flanker. It's not as sweet as Y edp which I also have yet this smells for more exciting to me, but the atomizer on the Elixer kinda sucks so for it perform like the EDP does you need to hit yourself with a few extra sprays.

While I do love this and would absolutely buy for about $100-110, to me it's just a darker version of Y EDP Intense. Like the EDP Intense is a fresh, mildly green frag for spring and fall made mostly of lavender and juniper berries while the elixir intensifies the lavender and juniper berries then pairs them with a very clean oud and some resinous frankincense to make it darker, heavier, and richer for fall and winter while still being usable when it's warmer out.

You know what? I really enjoy Y L'Elixir. Y EDP has always been my go-to dumb reach, blue scent but now I can finally wear something that is a bit more age appropriate (I'm 40yo this year). It smells like a luxury bar of soap in a 5 star hotel, and I'm excited to rock this one all year. High quality ingredients from the esteemed house with a sick metallic blue bottle. Sure, this is a bit pricey... but what isn't these days? No buyer's remorse from me. 9/10

Update since I have now worn it a bit. I understand why people are divided, it is its own thing. But it does have something going. For me it is a bit too powerful and I would have the reformulated downgraded version even. Its a beast. I use just one spray, trust me it is enough. In that way it is wearable for me.. I prefer more skinclose scents really. And with this one I get compliments, so maybe I have to to half a spray

this's power, masculine, sophisticated and mature. It still has the Y DNA, but with more refining edge to it. I smelled Y EDP and Y le parfum, so I know the differences between the three. Y le parfum is the one in between the edp and elixir, it's mature but still has the youthful feeling to it and less sweet that edp. The elixir is like a boss would wear it, Le parfum is the vice and Y edp is the employee.

I was able to grab one bottle in 125 bucks after testing a 7.5 ml mini bottle in a sephora complementary gift and this is by far imo, the best Y of the line, I dont own any other Y bottle, but I tested all in a sephora and this is the only one who make me wanna spend some buck on Ysl, for the self confidence office man, who dares to be bold, reapply at will after 5 hours, an all season scent.

Deep, rich, and smoother than the rest of the Y line. It’s got that fresh DNA, but darker and sexier with tonka, amber, and woods. Feels more mature, more dressed up, like the final form of Y. If Y EDP is the hero, Elixir is the boss version. For me, this is a mixture of the EDP and Le Parfum with a longer-lasting scent. If you've got the budget it is a great buy.

Extremely long lasting on clothes been on my hoodie for about a week and is still projecting and great performance on skin solid scent bubble great mature soapy fragrances would 100 percent advise to buy from discounter retail price is too much 10/10 also does not smell too much like y edp I own the entire y line and this and the edp intense are the best imo💯

One of my new favourites. Way better than the OG YSL Y which to me is plain boring and just smells like cheap shower gel. This is rich, warm and inviting. On the dry down it has a bit of spice and incense, with a deep and rich base of Amber, wood and a masculine musk. It's more of an intimate scent with mild sillage but great longevity, lasts all day for me.

as a scent it is by far the best of the y series for me. it completely smooths out the syntheticness of the edp and the lavender in this is almost therapeutic to smell. the price is however what drags this down the most, as this is NOT deserving of the "elixir" tag and it's insane nearly $200 price tag, which is what prevented me from buying a full bottle.

Let's all be real, Y Elixir smells incredible but the price is insane! If you aren't a brand snob, Zimaya Adabi Opulent is a fantastic Y Elixir clone: the opening smells just like Elixir smells part way into the drydown, but in the full dry down they are about 95% similar. ZAO is like 95% Y Elixir and 5% Y EDP Intense. Not bad for $40 for a 100ml.

Its just a smoothed out version of the edp. Its totally redundant to own if you already have a y fragrance in your collection. It smells amazing the hate here is the price and the worst atomizer and cheap packaging for such high retail its fairly cheap feeling for the retail price on this because it is probably the best smelling y.

This one grew on me progressively. When I first smelled it through a free sample, it was an "ok" fragrance. When I finished the whole free sample, it became a "like" fragrance. When I bought the bottle and began wearing it, it became a "love" fragrance. With less than 10ml of usage, I ended up buying a backup bottle just in case 😅

Don’t understand the hate, it seems to be a slightly darker version of ysl y edp intense.. the ratings are innacurrate, I’d say this is top tier, versatile (dumb reach), smells good, gets compliments.. I can’t go wrong with this one other than it cost an arm and a leg, I think this should probably be around 90-120.. but owell.

Doing another quick review: This smells like an ice arena on opening. If you've been to one, you know what I mean. That first blast of sweet, fresh, ozonic, rubbery are when you walk in, but not really much of the latter two. It's weird, but works well here. Then, it dries down into a Y-dna powerhouse, as expected.

Most people who hate on this fragrance haven't even smelt it. Sure... 2oz for $180, but you can find it on discounters for around $90-110. Calming lavender, with smooth fresh spices and oud. The oud is subtle but makes the fragrances so much better. Lasts forever, around 10-12 hours. Decent projection too. 9/10

BOYS: WE'VE got a new OFFICE KING!!!!! Wow... This is amazing. Smells masculine and soapy and clean. And tbh, It's something I've never ever smelled before. This isn't like the EDP; idk why people think it does. I have that one as well. This smells more soapy and manly. I'm gonna be wearing this to work a LOT.

I have the same opinion as the one below me, it is good. However its not different enough or performing any better than the others in the line. I still think Y intense is the best overall in the line, however if you can get this one for around $90, and don't have any others Y's I'll say go for it.

I love this one! Definitely mature and grown man vibes! I feel like my bottle got better with time the frankincense giving it a slightly Oud take got a bit more deeper and still a bit fresh! I would label this year round signature scent but can definitely work in a business or black tie event!

This is very good. The quality difference is perceptible between this and the rest of the line. The oud is a clean, rubbery vibe here. It's present. Less sweet than the others, more grown. This is the best and least cheap synthetic smelling of the line. Big like. Second is le parfum. 8/10

These ratings on Fragrancica is so bad. This is a beast mode projector and well blended. A lot of niche lines like Roja, LV have nothing on this fragrance and I thought this was bad when I tested in Ulta on paper. Then I bought and wore it. Its an amazing smoky take on oud. Worth buying.

Smells amazing, either best of the Y line or just below Y Le Parfum for me. Performance is also top notch for a "blue" perfume, but that's nothing new for this collection. The main factor here is the cost, which is great for me since I like this don't want to smell like everyone else. 🤪

@Flamma777 I have plenty of money, over 400 bottles of fragrance, I still buy at discounters, because it's what smart people do.. You know it cost around $5 to produce a single bottle? Obviously more for higher end brands, but you wouldn't know about them!

I have the entire Y line and this one definitely has a place in my collection. It is different enough as it tones down the fresh apple and turns up the woody nuances. I like wearing this to work as it’s not as loud as the edp but last throughout the day.

underrated and overhated, Ysl never misses. Bought this for sale a couple months after it released and i never understood the hate. i do agree that the retail price is ridicoulous but so is Dior sauvage elixir and people never hate on that price;)
