Yves Saint Laurent Kouros Silver

Dear Perfume lovers, I've had the chance of smelling this fragrance 3 days ago at Schipol (Amsterdam airport) and to be honest I do not understand all this hate, specially defending that urinal cake chemical smelling fragrance of Kouros, (at least the new version). I am a big fan and lover of YSL fragrances, being Body Kouros my favourite of the line, then L'homme and la nuit ranges, all of them modern and contemporary, creating a new phase in the fragrance department for this house. Having said that, I can tell you that Kouros Silver is a very safe and good smelling fragrance! Starts quite spicy/apple smelling, for then turning to a combo of amber - creamy - apple in the dry down, it is very pleasant and long lasting, considering all of the crappy releases from designer houses these days (coloured water with no longevity) I can decidedly state that Kouros Silver is a winner! To me the final phase of the fragrance smells just like the opening of L'homme, with that nice creamy and fresh apple. Nothing ground breaking here for sure, but very nice indeed considering the changes in the industry in the last 10 years (saving money with cheap compositions to increase their revenues) If you are one of those snobby fragrance guys, appreciating complexity and uniqueness in a fragrance, stay away from this one. Kouros Silver for sure will not make you smell like a fart from Zeus, a garden of Eden, the urine of a starfish in the depths of the Aegean see, or a gourmet dish of indian food with some sushi on top (whatever that may smell) but it will for sure give you a comfort feeling of knowing that you smell pleasant, fresh and masculine. My advice is: try it! if you like it like me, buy at least 3 bottles before the greedy managers of this industry decide to reformulate it, as normally happens. After all is just a matter of time for a great scent with longevity to be reformulated to be then mass produced. 8/10 ***Update: After 2 weeks of use, I can fairly say that I really like it! projects very well, lasts more than 8 hours on my dry crappy skin, and smells delicious and masculine; is a very nice Woody/fruity combo with hints of incense/amber in the dry-down, I guess to make it last longer. Now that the weather is a bit warmer and the winter is almost gone ( central Europe), I can get more aromas in a different way than when I bought it. Try it!

TL;DR: Sweet and sweaty, Clary Sage-infused Ambroxan. ***On Kouros: This has much more to do with Kouros than the beloved Body Kouros. Let me explain: Go smell the current iteration of Kouros and remember it's 2019 and released by the same house. YEAH. This is a very timely flanker of Kouros. Most of you judge it by what it doesn't have: loads of aldehydes, índole, oakmoss, and civet. *** On the Essence: What it does have: a paired down representation following the concept of Kouros (Say what you will, the young virile sexuality is here). A sweaty and aromatic Clary Sage, the sweetness of the powdery vanilla nuances, the Amber (in the form of Ambroxan). All present in Kouros. This is a modern, stripped down Kouros. The main mistake was timing: released after Eros, One Million (and created by the same pair of perfumers), Invictus. It does feel like YSL was trying to chase a trend. The Invictus comparisons are not far off. I must say I don't love the apple opening too much, but after an hour it settles into a wonderful ambroxan and Clary Sage combo. It feels as if the apple was added, albeit grudgingly, by the perfumers to appeal to the masses at first whiff at the fragrance counter. They should have gone with a classic Bergamot or a more interesting Pineapple. But the beauty unfolds after the opening, nonetheless. It's long lasting and projects well. Beautiful after the first hour. I love this for the Clary Sage, which is not used often enough anymore and honestly those saying it's unoriginal because Eros used apple and all others now use Ambroxan - Clary sage is my response. I wish it were more prominent maybe. I bought this blind because of the sage note, as there was no tester. ***On "Cheap": It's a good scent. No, it does not smell cheap, and it is not actually cheaper than any other fragrance in the category. (If it does smell cheap, so do all the other designer releases from Versace, Giorgio Armani, Bottega Veneta, etc.). What it does smell like is fitting the times. It's 2019, consumer tastes have changed, and also...IFRA.

Okay this scent is Nice not much of a performer compared to YSL Y live but still it can hold a torch for itself. I don't get the hate its getting here, mostly its just people upset that this scent is not the body kouros and its not an older mans scent that's it. There is nothing niche here its a smell for the youthful modern man as simple as that. This has similarities in air to YSL Y Live the sweetness here and with Live is uncanny just that Live is a bit more herbaceous and has citrus and added freshness. So this smells sweet and rich. Smelling it right of the skin it does not smell impressive at all to be honest but the aroma it leaves in the air is really good like that of the YSL Live sweetness. I recommend spraying this on your clothes from a distance and on pulse points so that it can project from skin and from your clothes making it last longer. This does not smell anything like Eros except that its sweet, Eros has a creamy minty vanilla sweetness on the other hand the sweetness of Silver is that of green apple and high quality Ambroxan or amber balanced of with the strong herbaceous sage with just a slight woodsy feeling and it has a bit of an oily take like a quality perfume oil. This thing lasts long like for days on clothes and on skin it lasts around 6 hours and has got good Sillage for up to 5 hours. Projection is also good around 4-6 feet around the person for 4 hours. PS This smells very similar to Burberry Brit Rhythm Intense this one is a well made perfume giving silver a run for its money smelling high quality for the price with a well blended complex smell. Could be blind Buy for Sweet fruity warm scent lovers.

2 HRS IN... Ambery and woody notes for sure. With wafts of apple coming through. The apple was prominent in the top notes, and the sage came in quite quickly. When it does kick in, the apple is made milder and if you were to compare to something like Mont Blanc Legend Intense or Azzaro Silver Black/Onyx - it feels gentle and inviting. This is what I would wear in place of the L'eau D'Issey and Givenchy Blue Label and Plays because of how soft they are. This is much more fresh and energizing. Very pleasant to smell throughout the day and I'm sure my wife will like it. Not manly but not really any typical feminine nuances either. It's a great change from the leather vibe that is everywhere. To me, this does not fit in the L'Homme or Kouros line. I would almost label it something like Fraiche or Energize...(actually, this conjures a better done hugo energize bc it feels less synthetic and sour) A big like for me. Simple, pleasing to smell on yourself, sweet but not cloying, and light hearted - can dress it down or up if it's a signature. Wearing with a suit is passable; though considering the fall weather and near freezing temperatures; the projection is not loud. This would shine in spring and early summer/summer nights.

I have a feeling that this aroma only has so many dislikes based purely on the fact that it is what is termed a "flanker" - A perfume that is commercially riding the coat tails of a more famous and reputable sibling in order to garner sales. The fact is that this scent bares absolutely no resemblance to its sibling Kouros and I feel that for that reason it's hated upon. If YSL had given it a totally different name and bottle then it would be more favourably tolerated I think. However for me - I love it - The silage is exceptional compared to scents that I own that cost more than 3-4 times as much. I get a sweet apple bubblegum note to start with that dies down after a while - There is no mistaking that this is a mainly "synthetic" concoction but it is not the kind that becomes ever so repugnant after a while. It lasts for DAYS on clothes! Even makes it through a wash and remains ever so slightly detectable! Bare in mind this is the Toilette I'm reviewing which is stronger than the cologne. I especially like its ability to mix well with a few other scents making something totally unique - try it with a pure vetiver or oud based scent ;)

Its so funny how people say that this is cheaply made but couldn't reduplicate it themselves, believe me I tried and it came out too sweet and not as fresh or sharp. Ysl has made a lot worse than this especially from the strength aspect (like all L'hommes, easily remade, weak crappy frags that begin to bore soon after the 1st few wears). I love anything that performs and gets me that ( what's the name of your fragrance) question. I asked a guy what he was wearing and was lied to so I went to khols and smelled this and said that's it, just as I thought something new for the masses but I still had to grab it. But then off to saks for the frag head in me. Ysl should discontinue this and watch all the rave then. All frag heads should know this but its the cheap stuff that gets all the compliments because the average person is not into sophisticated scents. I get compliments from this more than a lot of my other scents and it's stronger so for me I'll stock up and wait for it to be discontinued and then buss this out

Sweet lord, some of us are only on our start of having a collection of fragrances and each will have their own opinions as this is totally subjective and , in no way, could their be any objectivity , not unless, like some singers, who have perfect pitch, you have perfect olfactory senses. You then go on to talk of hate yet your post wreaks of it and even mentiong your use of parentheses is just darned snobby. Live and let love. I actually love this and it lasts a long time the good lady likes it on me too. Please, try to at least understand not all of us are wealthy nor do we have massive collections. Bear that in mind before such withering put down posts. It’s not often i get angered on here but you certainly brought it out in me.

I have never tried none of the Kouros line before, but somehow this fragrance caught me up while I was wondering through the store, and I walked out of it with a bottle of this yesterday. Today with my nose more clearer, I can say that it definitely has a lovely aroma. My only concern is that this smells like many other fragrances I already own. It reminds me of YSL L' Homme, La Nuit, Versace Eros, a little bit of Black XS L'exces, a little of the sweetness of Polo red Intense and Halloween man. I don't regret I bought it. I just think it was too expensive for what it offers. I guess I still have to wear it more to find its own identity. The bottle feels cheap. Something good about this, is its projection and longevity. Both are very good.

Don't slate me for this review, but I quite liked this one, bought it as it was on a deal, it's more wearable then the original Kouros I guess, not so shouty as it's superior original. It's light and fruity, to me it's like a dumbed down version of l'homme nuit, rather then Kouros. The downside, it bears no resemblance to the original, it's very generic, more what you'd expect from the 007 range. I fear for YSL, L'Oreal don't seem to be too concerned with making new and quality products, even the skincare i've ditched in favour of Elizabeth Arden's because the quality is good, but not premium, and that's what I feel about Kouros Silver, a good product, but not premium.

This is a likable scent, pleasant enough to be used as a daily user, ticks all the boxes as far as longevity/projection etc but..... is it worthy of the kouros name? i feel it is not a bad scent but they could of just put this in a different bottle & hey presto a new line, if it has the kouros name it should at least keep some of the characteristics of the original other than the bottle. if this was in a new/different bottle id score it higher but trying to grab some sales from the kouros name isn't a good idea as kouros has a almost iconic status in the history books. Certainly comes out with a bang.A millennial bang loud but utterly bland so as not to offend anyone, totally unisex yet again.Huge quantity of Apple and later the sage comes through....the end. Massive amount of imagination I think not. Go with Joop Go! For a cheaper alternative. Overall good strength and silage but bland and dull, it makes old codgers like me have a nervous breakdown and reach for our leopord print loin cloths and swing from the trees, if ever an aftershave said, death to anything male!! this edt is doing it.

Im trying to figure why does this get hated,ive come to the understanding that alot of people are suffering from having to many bottles of cologne and somehow became fragrance scientists,this is a really good scent and their are others ive bought that have been trashed or never even thought to wear that turned out to be really great frags,take my advice don't look at the ratings and only take some reviews seriously if u do that u may stumble across a gem like this 1.......peace

metallic fruity musk...lighter and airy version of rasasi hawas aka invictus aqua perhaps with green apple.even though this is older than those,....its very simple and great day time summer/spring scent for any age but will suit younger folks a lot.its nothing like the other two kouros(kouros and body kouros) which are very challenging and mature...didnt try the fresh version though, but this is a great casual fragrance 7.5/10 overall

Kouros Silver is 10/10 But BEWARE there are MANY fake copies of this particular fragrance. I strongly suggest going to BOOTS to test the 100% authentic Kouros Silver. You will absolutely love it. Kouros Silver is called the scent for Living Gods for a reason. I get compliments from women wherever I go with this stuff. Awesome performance as well.

the fact that it's called kouros silver does not mean that it should be like kouros .. In fact the other flanker kouros are not. synthetic or not ... it does not matter . this perfume for me is fantastic . different , suitable for any season , amazing performance . one of the best news . really a surprise . Theres alot of talk about the number of kouros flankers, infact there have been 10 (Or 13 if you count each tonique seperate) in 34 years, which when you consider dior have done 6 Homme flankers in 10yrs, its not that bad every flanker ive tried ive liked and i will certainly give this a chance when i can get to try it

guys if you love eros, this is very similar. fresh, sweet and fruity with huge tonka and amber. this lasts up to 7/8 hours being a freshie. this works all year round.and this fragrance needs more love. green apple is so refreshing in this one 8.5/10

Like others have said, it smells good, crowd pleaser, but not unique and forgettable, might turn some people off on initial sprays. projection is good, not a beast though, Not sure how it gets beast votes. will I buy again? Hell no.

I dont know why so many people that dislike this. It have a huge sillage, smells great, last all the day and girls like it. In the drydown i get some sweet notes like coconut blended with fresh and sharp notes.

It’s a fresher kinda more summery version of Eros!remind me also le male to the navy but without oceanic salty vibe!suitable for spring summer autumn nights it’s a beast!!!

I have been wanting to try this new Kouros flanker despite the negative reviews but I was having trouble finding it.. Macys and Sephora did not have it, but surprisingly I ran into a tester bottle at Kohls! I went ahead and sprayed some on my wrist so this is my first impression.. Kouros Silver opens up with a very fresh sweet spicy apple note.. A heart of sage along with the apple keeps Kouros Silver pretty fresh for awhile up until the scent starts to dry down and warm up a bit.. The woody notes and amber in the base add some sweetness and warmth to this fragrance which is felt from the opening but takes over in the dry down.. There is no similarity to the original Kouros at all, however you could say there is a slight resemblance to Body Kouros due to the sweet woody amber notes.. Kouros Silver is a safe and very versatile fragrance, it can work in the heat well or in the cold, although Yves Saint Laurent is pitching this fragrance as a summer scent.. Kouros Silver is not a bad fragrance, it is pleasant smelling but that is all it really is.. It is nothing groundbreaking, unique, or special in any type of way.. Yves Saint Laurent fragrances use to be known for being groundbreaking, unique, and very high quality.. This just does not feel like a proper Yves Saint Laurent fragrance to me at all.. It is very linear, a bit synthetic, and it is a bit boring.. Having said that Kouros Silver is still not a bad fragrance at all but I definitely expected more coming from a house like Yves Saint Laurent, and for a fragrance bearing the Kouros name.. As far as the performance goes, Kouros Silver will perform very well as long as you are a bit generous with how many sprays you put on, if so it will hang around for long time and project very very well.. If I could find Kouros Silver for a bargain price at a discount store I would definitely buy it, but the retail price is a bit to much for a scent like this.. I could see myself using Kouros Silver as a casual scent for the summer, since it certainly smells better than your average chemical aquatic.. I would recommend you at least give this one a shot, who knows you may like it..

I will not let other people's bad reviews affect my opinion of a fragrance. I'll just test it out on my skin and if I think it's nice, then I like it. Simple. I went into a store and was just browsing the juices as I do. I saw Kouros Silver on the shelf and noticed that the top of the bottle was damaged, like it had been dropped on the floor. I tried to spray some on a tester strip and it squirted out in a jet, like from a water pistol, partly on the tester strip and partly on the back of a lady standing in front of me. Whoops! Share and share alike eh? I then left the store, but........... I sniffed the tester strip again and again then turned around and went back. This time I sprayed some on the back of my hand from close range as not to assault any more random strangers, then left the store for a second time. The first thing I noticed was that it is powerful even in quite a small dose. The second thing I noticed was that it seemed to me to have a rather peppery top note. Peppery, sweet and sour with quite strong undertones of alcohol, like vodka or pure alcohol. That was before I had any idea of the actual perfume pyramid. I decided to look it up in my bible (Fragrantica), and it is here that I discovered a lot of negative and/or dismissive reviews. Oh well, I think it's very nice and that's good enough for me. Is it groundbreaking or unique? No. Is it strong and long lasting? Yes. I'm getting some. Peace out - Zoop.

Being as unbiased as I could possibly be (not having smelled any other iteration of Kouros), I can't understand the disdain for this one. Is it reinventing the wheel? Absolutely not. However, the amount I paid for this fragrance I feel like I should pick up another bottle if this site is of any indication of it's market power. It starts off with a crisp green apple (but not candy like) with a little sage to spice things up. There are very minor woody tones in the opening to maintain the masculinity but at the start, very fruity/herbal. The woody/amber base shines through after the drydown with the apple and sage still lingering amidst it. It seems there is a little sharp musk in here but it's not listed (could totally be me). I find this fragrance to be really nice, actually. I think if I give it a couple more wearings, it'll place pretty high in my "freshie" category. Sillage and longevity, on me, definitely above average. Honestly pretty good. Inoffensive, versatile, all ages, safe blind buy. Again, not an artistic masterpiece but I feel like if it wasn't saddled with the name of an already established fragrance (much like Guilty Absolute in the opposite sense), it would be a home run. Don't mess with the classics, I guess.

A very different flanker in fact I'll never recognise this as from Kouros family on somebody else. Initial spray has Apple, spice and woody notes and within 2 hrs it is sage and woody notes creating dull earthy scent. It's better than many scents I've tested in last week and I prefer this over Azzaro chrome extreme which was sort of disappointment. It is close to PR Invictus. Stays for 5 hrs on my skin but first 2 hrs are interesting later on sage and woody notes create that cheap synthetic vetiverish earthy note and it's not the refreshing kind you need in summer. One thing is clear I'm not buying anything with sage, oakmoss, vetiver, cedar needles and lavender as they tend to dry down nearly same, have too many. I layered it with bergamot essential oil on my forearm and it is fantastic! Scent 7/10 Sillage 6 /10 within 2 hrs it is a skin scent but when mixed/ layered with bergamot oil it kept giving whiffs for 4 hrs. Longevity 6/10 Value 7/10 For $50 there are many very good alternatives from new and old classics, I won't buy it again.

Kouros Silver comes out with a BANG with seemingly synthetic green apple leading the charge loudly and proudly. Shortly thereafter, sage blends in and calms things down. Lastly, wood and amber notes come into play. The apple and sage are the most prominent of all the ingredients and ride the wood and amber nicely to the end. It’s not a bad frag. It’s just kind of bubble gummy. It’s decent enough but I don’t find myself reaching for this one as much as others. Longevity and sillage are on the upper end of the spectrum. Once the initial shock blast wears down, it turns out to be a pleasant enough (although somewhat synthetic) apple/sage aroma. For me, it’s a like but not a love. I have smelled far better and far worse. I am not throwing it away, but it won’t get as much play time as my other frags. For this one, I would definitely try before you buy. Some people will DEFINITELY love the vibe this juice puts out. Others will be like me and think that it’s just okay.

I have mixed feelings about this fragrance. For a while I hated it, but it's beginning to grow on me. It's worth noting that this is one of those perfumes you shouldn't blind buy or even smell off a card. The opening notes are disgusting, a mix of sour coconut and a hint of urine. BUT-take the time to let it dry in. It will become much less harsh, and become more sweet and woody. Personally it reminds me of Million-it's by no means a clone, at all, but some notes are similar, and it is just as long lasting and has very good projection. This is not an office or date safe fragrance. It's just way too brash and controversial, and not everyone is going to like it. But if you're feeling adventurous, give it a shot, it may surprise you. Just be sure to spray it on your hand, let it settle in, and smell it throughout the day first. 6/10

The "silver" opens up with a distinct apple note and whilst Invictus doesn't do that, I do get some sort of a subtle Invictus vibe when getting in to the dry-down phase. Not groundbreaking and definitely not anywhere near the Original Kouros (1981) but an OK scent for work, every day use and casual situations. Not a wild projector and under average longevity, but if you just want something OK and inexpensive for everyday use from a respectable house,this could definitely be an OK choice. But, I would definitely choose Invictus over this one....No doubt! I greatly dislike the original Kouros (I know, I must lack in the taste department). I mean, really, it's a omg-i-must-scrub-it-off-asap dislike. I bought this one exactly because everybody was telling it has nothing to do with Kouros, it was on a huge dirty cheap on-sale and as I tried it at the store, it greatly appealed me. Unfortunately, *buyer beware*, it DOES have a resemblence with original Kouros. Eventually, it showed its face. I can't tell what it is. But it's still there. Just a little. But enough to roll eyes on my bad purchase. Lesson learned, I guess.

The hate for this fragrance comes from bad marketing. In no way this deserves the name Kouros. Neither is it deserving of a YSL tag. But having said that, is it bad fragrance? Hell No! It's a bit mature version of Eros. Amazing performance. Lasts the whole day and more and easily fills up a room. Smells sweet apple/vanilla/lavender combo. Perfect clubbing scent. Verdict: If you are looking for an inexpensive, yet quality clubbing scent, Blind Buy! If you looking for something like Kouros, or something 'deserving' of the YSL tag, Stay Away!

I do not want to be one of the people that automatically judge a scent before they even smell it but this is a bit odd.. Kouros Silver? The bottle does not look much different than the new Body Kouros bottle which I find a bit odd of them to do.. I wouldn't mind a nice modern Kouros flanker, it could be interesting but this breakdown looks horrid, generic, and cheap.. I really hope that a different note breakdown is released soon because if that is all there is to this scent than it looks like this will be a disappointment..

Humble female opinion: On male skin, the first hour is horrifying. Metallic puke But the following 9+ hours of SILLAGE and I mean HEAVY sillage are nice. A bit mature smelling. I just can't stop thinking it's missing something, something a bit fruity or sweet or floral or just plainly interesting, to give it some personality. As it is, it is a nice powerhouse masculine mature fragrance, you will certainly remember it, but if you layer it with something tonka based or something fruity, you are up for SUCCESS.

Good smelling, like all good average colognes nowadays. But this is is a little bit above those. It's a mix smelling of Versace Eros (without the minty note and less sweet) and Rasasi Hawas or the better known Invitus Aqua (because the ambar notes). By the way, everybody talk about ambar/green apple mix of notes, but I get a coconut smell that does it very interesting and well done to my taste. Scent: 7/10 Sillage: 6/10 Longevity: 7/10 Price: 8/10

Blind bought a bottle of this for $50 at Marshalls. I was a bit nervous that I wouldn't like it, but to my surprise this is very pleasant and wearable. Soft apple with sage and a bit of mint is the impression I get. Fairly linear to the end, but the apple does fade away. This is a soft, fruity, but still masculine fragrance perfect for nearly all season. Decent longevity too. I quite like Kouros Silver.

I generally avoid any YSL scents other than M7 Oud Absolu. They just don't seem to fit my tastes. But I recently tried a decant of Kouros Silver and I was impressed with its 12 hour longevity on me. The scent itself is not extraordinary - it has some artificial sweetness that might turn some people off. But if Paco Rabanne ever comes out with "Invictus Apple", then Kouros Silver would be a clone.

For me, this shares some similarities with 1 Million Cologne. And 1 million Cologne has some Kouros vibe. They were made by the same couple of perfumers and i think they did a good job. Its not a masterpiece but it is very pleasant scent and that creamy apple-amber accord is stunning. The sage made it a little bit aromatic. A good summer addiction for the Kouros line. 7/10

A cleaner, simpler fragrance that reminds me of the opening of V&R Night Vision edt. I agree with the comment below, this is the blueprint for Y EDP. It does have a really nice apple note, but I didn't really like anything else about it at the time. I'm not sure why they released this under the Kouros line. It's a safe blind buy.

A weaker and softer version of Replica Jazz Club by Maison Martin Margiela. Good for summer time. Smells fruity or like a fruit cocktail. Spray it on and it will feel pleasant while you're having a walk on a warm summer afternoon/evening. If you can get it for a bargain price, you can consider this one.

You would swear by the way people are reacting that this is the first Kouros flanker? There are already a few including summer editions so this isnt really a shock to me. As long as it smells great is there anything else that really matters? Dont judge before its available to test.

This fragrance has a two cologne vibe. At first it has a weak Paco Rabanne One Million feel. Then it settles smelling like Versace Eros with the One Million smell going on. That's what I get, It's a good fragrance and I was surprised. I'll give it a 7.5 out of 10.

A great scent for younger people, in the same category as 1 million, eros and invictus, not a bad one just to ordinary.
