Just Rock! for Him

I have to congratulate Zadig & voltaire, many of the perfumes of this house draw on the complexity and artistic sense of niche perfumes, at first I had underestimated just rock, believing that it was the mainstream perfume of the house, the perfume dedicated to the younger public, the sweet of the house to be clear, but I was wrong. Just-rock is absolutely a mature, warm, soft, woody and vanilla-flavored, compact perfume when I smell the trunk of a tree. The opening, together with TF oud wood, is the most woody one I have ever heard, wood, incense, and very delicate spices, oriental the perfume is very aggressive and courageous, then the bark begins to dissolve and the vanilla pops out, a not too sweet vanilla, almost bitter, made even more frightening by incense, accompanied by patchouli and amber, has the right sweetness and softness that you would like from a good masculine perfume, firm and hard, that embraces and pampers you like a cashmere scarf. It is a perfume as I said without frills, without edges or notes that prevail more than the others, but emerge at the same time, it is an oak trunk with everything inside it incensed dark vanilla, slightly dusty. Sillage and performance are average, after the perfume it remains discreet on the skin, it is not a perfume that wants to capture attention but despite this I have received several compliments. It is very underrated, apparently, but I prefer it to this one, albeit good, but I see it less warm, smoother and more incensed, even more minimal than just rock. It is a fragrance that I definitely can't wait. to use it in Autumn or Winter, very formal, distinct, but with that masculine sweetness that attracts attention, never over the top,a perfume straightforward. Little rock, very rocky. Rating 8/10

I fell in love with this fragrance last fall. There's a certain kind of accord in there that I can't quite put my finger on. It's a smoky/incense-like sort of accord, which I love. I'm not sure which notes contribute to that. At first I picked up on that aspect of the fragrance the most, but I soon became a bit anosmic to it, because I wore the fragrance too often. Also, I guess I was overspraying, so that may have contributed to it. From that point the main thing I could smell was vanilla and amber. I've left the bottle alone for a while, and now when I smell the atomizer I can pick up that aspect of the fragrance again. It still gets me. I also purchased This Is Him, I really shouldn't have, because to me it is mostly the same scent, but with added grapefruit in the opening. Weirdly, This Is Him has a pretty poor performance for some reason. Just Rock's performance is not all that either, but it's slightly better on me for some reason. People never notice This Is Him on me, and it never got me any compliments, unlike Just Rock, which does get noticed and does get me compliments. In my opinion it's redundant to have both. If I had to pick one, I'd definitely go with Just Rock, it's less cluttered somehow and seems to have more of an identity to me. YMMV! I also tried This Is Love, but it is in the same vein as the other two, just more emphasis on the citrus aspect of This Is Him with the orange blossom and bergamot. Just Rock has no citrus. It's just smoky and sweet. Still my favourite of the three. I really wouldn't recommend wearing this outside of the colder months of the year.

Zadig & Voltaire's just rock is a very amazing perfume. I bought this 4 or 5 years ago, and I remember when I first tried it, the opening was too harsh. I felt that it gave a hint of incense that was too strong and I couldn't recognize any vanilla from it, neither any spices. I decided to leave it for maceration for a couple of years and I just recently finished the bottle. This perfume aged like fine wine, I'm happy I let it mature instead of giving it away to a friend, because it definetly overperformed my expectations. First of all, this perfume gives off a very mysterious vibe. After have left it for a couple of years, the vanilla and spices really come out and create a perfect blend with the incense, creating a deep and unique blend that I really liked. I'd argue this is a rather dark perfume, perfect for night wear, and I definetly avoided using this during warmer months and daytime as well, I used this exclusively during nighttime. It is very long lasting, I would apply it on myself and my clothes and it would still be noticable hours later, to be honest, I could still smell it on my clothes days later even after washing them. It has a very good sillage, it projects around you and leaves a mysterious trace, but it is definetly not overwhelming. This perfume is masculine and wouldn't fit on a woman in my opinion. Price value was pretty good, I remember buying it for like 80£. This used to be my signature fragrance winter 2024, sad thing it's discontinued.

I've worn this a lot over winter. Like Eau des Baux but slightly more synthetic and, dare I say it, edgy. Vanilla is the star right from the opening with a boozy undertone. I remember getting a pretty strong hit of iso e from the new bottle, but either I have grown accustomed to it, or it has just evaporated quicker. Amber and something chocolate-y creeps in gradually. The amber and vanilla mixture eventually settles into a sweet well-blended smell that is not terribly complicated -- it reminds me a bit of the base of Azzaro chrome pure, but sweeter with some pepper. Some others have mentioned incense, but it only pops up for me when it's basically exclusively a skin scent & is still quite sweet. Eau des Baux has a more forward incense; the Just Rock shower gel has a prominent smoky incense note and it works well layered. That base stays for a long time; even on my somewhat dry skin, I can still smell it at the end of the day and my scarf still smells of it days later. The sum feels a bit off balance perhaps, but in a way that feels opulent rather than wrong. I prefer it over the normal This Is Him, though that does have more citrus to balance things out. Overall, 8/10: especially now that it's discounted (GBP 25ish for 50mL) it is a quality long-lasting and comfortable scent for a younger audience -- maybe somewhere around 25. Fall and winter as it can get overly sweet.

Zadig & Voltaire Just Rock for him. It wows me. I can't stop sniff this fragrance on my arm. It is so woody and it got a patchouli touch. I find it very masculine and mysterious. In my opinion it's a nice night fragrance for every confident men over 21 years old. In the 6 first hours your skin will smell woody notes a lot. You will find some vanilla in your sillage cloud. After 6 hours, the woody notes disappear and only the sweet side of this cologne will stay with you : the vanilla and the amber. I got some Yves Saint Laurent Magnificent Gold (private collection) vibes. They are not the same. Just rock is darker and way more masculine, less sweet. Scent : 9/10. Gorgeous woody scent. Longevity : about 10 hours Projection : 8/10 Versatility : for every night situations, it can also be a signature scent. Love it.

vanillic woodsy composition! perfectly unisex fragrance, I don't find it masculine at all, whereas I find "This is him" more masculine and more citrus-y due to the grapefruit and even though I don't mind to wear it!! wonderful for winter and rainy days, the composition of vanilla and woody notes give it that boozy feeling, and warmth, the incense and the spices are back in the background, but the vanilla keeps them softened up, the more it drys down the more it gets warmer! It definitely has a niche quality, I was aiming to get This is him, but now I'm happier to own this instead,,, Love it! 9/10

Love this. It’s gorgeous and sexy. Definitely has a unisex vibe. It’s youthful, yet sophisticated and dances between dark and light. Love that it has some depth and complexity yet isn’t too serious it should be worn only during a specific time. It can be worn day or night, and is bound to get compliments. The only fragrance I can think of that’s similar and probably as good, is Unisex for Everybody. This isn’t as loud as Unisex as far as projection, but it’s close. Think I’d choose this between the two. But they’re both bomb. Edit: yeah, I like this better.

I finally had my chance to try this from a test sampler today and I fell in love. Smokey incense, creamy vanilla, and a woody, not too spicy vibe that is so unique. Very sorry I missed it at my local discounters recently since I cant afford to buy it at regular Swiss prices. For me it's love at first whiff! Cool or cold weather only for this one, without a doubt. There is nothing about it that I don't like. From opening to dry down it shines. This will make you stand out in a good way. But test it first and don't blind buy.

No words, just best ever... Smell - 10/10 (smoky, creamy, vanilla-incense bomb in the best way, to me this is a dark smell that you can easily wear on public), Longevity - 10/10 (10+ hours), Sillage and Projection - 7/10 (yeah could be better just a little). Btw once again notes listed here are incorrect, notes printed on my bottle are: Black Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Incense and Patchouly. Edit: They discontiniued this gem...

I’m going to have to oppose a few of these reviews and say this is a bright, fun, and wearable vanilla that envelopes but is never too much of anything. One of the few I don’t mind reapplying. It’s youthful but elegant. Especially at this price point. I love everything about it on my skin and it has a soft sexy haze that is truly captivating on me. The only thing I have a problem with is the name lol. 🤘🏽

When the first time i met with this was not looking for a perfume. But i saw it, on the shelf of a perfume shop here where i live: i just fell in love. It's a deep vannilla-like fragrance, very masculine and it develops well when it lingers in the air. It's woody note gives this fragrance a nice strong start that softens up during the day. I suggest to spray again after 4/6 hours.

This is a pretty decent scent if you like incense fragrances, it has a bit of niche quality to it. It is not that different from last years release but this one is a bit more spicy and dark, i think those who enjoyed Varvatos dark rebel rider might find this one likable as they are in the same scent category. At least im rocking it.

My brother doesn't have a sense of smell. For whatever reason, my mom bought him this fragrance. He doesn't wear it for obvious reasons. I wear it anytime I visit. This perfume is so lovely. Soft musk, ambery patchouli and sweet powder. It doesn't last that long though. Unisex. I'd steal it if only my brother was not a scorpio

It has a really woody strong scent. You can really feel the vanilla and the wood in it. You get some top notes of spices as well. Really good perfume for nights out in the winter. I wouldn't recommend it for hot days, as it has a really strong smell. However, it's a great scent. 4/5

What a successful blind buy! I love and wear with great pleasure female Zadigs, yet this one is safe and sensual on women too. Chalky-warm woods, long-lasting, exotic, powdery, enigmatic, futuristic. Instant love. Hope they will not be discontinued at least in the next 10 years.

Sweet and creamy vanilla powder-very intense start and beautiful in the progression of the scent-never too intense..It's an art to make a scent like this with so few notes!Nothing too much or too little!Just right!Just Rock!

Pretty close to 'This Is Him' without the lemon, which makes it somewhat darker and rounder and warmer. Liked it enough to purchase even though I own TIH, although I am a fan of incense scents.

Excellent blend where for me mostly dark chocolate/cocoa notes, smokiness, wood and a bit of spiciness stand out. Such a shame that this has been discontinued. :/

Beautiful vanilla scent. Smells to me like vanilla puding. Longetivity is good, projection not bad too.

A good product for a good price ! This perfume is nicer for winter that for summer.

//Edit: Forget about TiH, it got reformulated. Blind bought JR! after several testings of "This Is Him" and watching several reviews on ytb. I was looking for designer, wearable scent with smoky frankincense as one of main notes. I liked TIH as a not complicated, well priced scent, but found out some users prefer JR! over TIH and decided to give it a try. Firstly: the real notes for Just Rock! are the following: Black Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Incense and Patchouly. Secondly: I recommend you to check the comparision from Youtuber "Scent Trail" who pointed main differences. I totally agree that the names for them could and should be swapped. Why? Because Just Rock! does not reminds of a rockstar. It's a quite subtle fragrance for a 'I know who I am' man. A man with good maneurs and taste who wants to be present while not seeking for attention. The fragrance is simple and not 'in your face'. You can definitely get the dry vanilla and subtle, not very prominent tonka bean sweetness, inviting incense with noticeable earthy patchouli in the background smoothly putting it together. "This Is Him" is a fragrance for 20-30y old who wants to smell like rockstar, while Just Rock! will be more suitable for 25/30+ (depending on your style and liking) smart casual/elegant wearing. In my opinion TIH is more suitable for fun and partying and I specifically mean outdoor. JR! will be more versatile and static. It's really pleasant (almost gourmandish), comforting and masculine. At the same hand it feels a little bit of incomplete. It's quite linear and does not evolve a lot through the wearing - I'd say it gets less sweet and more earthy bc of patchouli. Does it bother me? Not at all. I paid about 40-45$~ for 100ml tester bottle and I'm glad to have it in my small collection. I still find this fragrance to be quite unique and interesting among other designer fragrances I already tried. The parameters are above average but it's not meant to be beast performer. With proper amount of sprays (6-8) I would say the sillage is really good, projection is noticeable and longevity is 6-7+ hours at best - considering price it's 7/10. It's worth blind buy if you are familiar with the notes, as it's not very complex fragrance and it's likeable. I also believe both TIH and JR! will be more appealing to more amateur noses like mine because experienced ones can be dissapointed by lack of contrast and complexity - anyway you're the one wearing it so pull the trigger if you're looking for simple and well priced fall scent. I tried to layer it with Dior Homme 2020 at top and seems they perfectly complement each other and helps with projection and longevity - I got several compliments from one wearing in chilly afternoon/evening that quite surprised me.

Now THIS is something I hadn't experienced before. One of the most natural, yet subtly masculine vanilla openings I've ever smelled in a fragrance. A touch of honey and juuuuust enough pink pepper and dry wood to man it up without leaving doubt as to what the star note is. After a couple minutes, I get a slightly mentholic note - reminds me just a bit of that tobacco accord from Bvlgari Man in Black, which seems to get more and more pronounced as my bottle has aged a bit. Not my favorite facet of this one, but the note does seem to stay pretty close. Darkish woods and spice come out a bit more, too, pushing back a bit on the vanilla opening and creating an almost chocolatey effect. As the mid notes fade back about 15 minutes in, the base begins to assert itself - more of that dry-ish wood note - almost like the dry sandalwood-saffron accord from CK Euphoria Liquid Gold, which is to say similar to what you might find in a typical non-oud-based Arabic scent. Subtle spice and more amber round it out into something lightly sweet and somehow both dry and creamy at the same time. Lovely olfactory layering. Verdict: This is like a combination of Calvin Klein's Euphoria Liquid Gold and Amber Gold, backed by a potent vanilla. My intitial reaction to Just Rock was an unequivocal love, but I've found that at times, the combination of notes (most likely set off by the amber) can start to throw off that "cologney vibe" making it hard to wear. Other times, it's still great. I guess that means you can call it a love-hate for me now.

The best part of this scent is the opening which reminds me niche perfumery. Uncommon smell but for a while. Then it develops like a soft arabic scent. In fact it is almost the same as Ajmal Shadow II which is not at the database. Excluding the opening of this Zadig scent, the drydown is 95% similar with Ajmal's drydown with the later being a little more vivid. Projection/sillage are moderate, longevity is above the average but this is not a strong scent. It is suitable for fall, spring day and night, early summer especially at the evenings. This is not similar with This is Him by the same house but there is a mild similarity of 30%.

Agreed that this is indeed almost identical to This is Him, but with added "amber" accord that is sweetish and can sometimes bring a certain unpleasant "cologney" vibe. If you go light with it and keep it away from your face, Just Rock has a lot going on and is actually quite nice. Go heavy or put your nose in it too soon and you'll regret it. Dry wood, not-too-sweet vanilla with a touch of smoke and a bit of honey-like amber sweetness. Patchouli is a bit on the herbaceous/camphoric side, but is pretty light and doesn't always register. This is Him is simpler and better IMO, but this isn't bad.

This is to me a quite odd perfume. In the opening, I smell a lot of chalk and a hint of mothball. Definately unique and interesting, but also quite a pleasant smell, strangely. I find myself repeatedly lift the palm of my hand to my nose to smell. In the dry down, it starts to be more common and less interesting. It becomes soft vanilla on my skin. Not unpleasant, but not exciting either. I don't find the resemblance to Axe: Dark Temptation as some have mentioned, other than vague. I'm ambivalent to this one. I like it, but I very seldom wear it.

I tested today and I like it, to me smells soft sweet tonka bean-vanilla with a little rum? (spices), comes to my mind Armani code, Midnight in Paris (not as sweet), Valentino uomo and I had few years ago a dupe of a men Gucci perfume which smelled like this fragrance :) The longevity is very good, the sillage on my hand is close to the skin. The funny thing is the flash symbol on the box, because it's similar to Animale Animale's box

I was expecting more and I'm not sure why because the notes listed here are pretty accurate to what this fragrance actually smells like. The opening is slightly harsh but smoothed out quickly. It's a pretty linear scent that won't change much as the day goes. But the patchouli will unveil itself as it dries down. I get a unisex vibe too, that's for sure. It's a good scent though, I'd probably give it 7/10 in total.

Just bought it. It is a dark-sweet incense. The drydown is even better when it becomes milkier and spicier. The ingredients are balanced and well blended. Update: after a time wearing it I found out that it is too synthetic and strong. It is perfect for clubbing

the completed of the OG less synthetic and well-round blended nearly similar scent like the og if you still not have one you should pick this instead of the og but if you have the og i still recommend to have this however it's redundant LOL

Maybe my best blind buy It is "similar" to bvlgari man in black but with less spices, more vanilla and deeper overall. Fall and winter is the right time to wear it. Rating is 8/10 and if I consider the prise ... 10/10

Milky and cold, like the others from this brand, but this one is a bit darker and may i say, sexy. I like it very much. It is simple but comforting and sensual. A nice fragrance. Final note: 7/10

After 5 minutes I only smell vanilla and amber.For me, just cheaper version of MFK Grand Soir.

This is 'This is Him' 2.0! It's just the same with an other name!

Has got similar vibe as Bvlgari Man in Black. I prefer Bvlgari.

Netflix and Chill Main notes- Lemony Frankincense, Woody Vanilla, Chocolatey Patchouli. A decent quality scent that gets better once the juice settles on the skin. It is very impressive vanilla, neither too spicy nor too thick and creamy. It has to be the frankincense that gives this fragrance a menthol lemony nuance to the vanilla. The patchouli is what I detect instantly and interestingly it gave chocolatey vibe when tested on a colleague's skin along with a hint of spice. This scent isn't incredibly natural smelling but I'm happy with it, an amazing scent for evenings. Reminds me of L'Occitane Eau des Baux and Tom Ford Noir Extreme in terms of scent type.

This is very simple fragrance, I smell it very similar to Lempicka pour homme, I don't feel it as a dark fragrance but very fresh, the patchouli is very dominant along with vanilla. I see it for young men, easygoing and not pretentious at all. I layered with vanilla noire of the Senteurs Gourmands but the result is not optimal, it stays very flat on the patchouli. Even if I read it was unisex, it is more indicated for men because it's the classic smell you have from mostly all men's colognes and aftershaves. Bad Blind Buy

Edit: After using this couple of times I found that there is something that disturbs me: when it dries down it smells like AXE dark temptation(?)... It's quite heavy so this isnt for casual situations. This wasnt for me - too much vanilla, chocolate(?), menthol(?).

I don't get any chocolate. Tested on myself and a male friend. The patchouli really becomes strong in the dry down. It just gets too bitter and moldy in the end. Review of full bottle, an unfortunate blind-buy.

I went to the store to buy This Is Him from Z&V. I like the presentation and style and love sweet incense fragrances. I just wanted to know how Just Rock! smelled that stood next to TIH on the shelf and to my surprise it also had Incense. I smelled TIH again and to my nose the incense was less smoky and less strong. Also didn’t like the grapefruit opening. Just Rock smelled darker and had more smoke. The patchouli in TIH is fabulous by the way. But I decided to buy a 100 ml bottle of Just Rock! It’s a very good fragrance with a beautiful sandalwood vanilla smell with a galant but very noticeable smokey incense. It’s a great going out fragrance or to go on stage with. It’s not too strong but projects in a warm place even more. This is to my opinion a great stage frag to rock en play dark indie or gothic rock with. (any style offcourse) I don’t mind it’s linear because it’s a well made fragrance from Zadig&Voltaire with definitely some niche quality. I like the matted black bottle with the golden letters a lot. Great for the colder evenings and nights.

This is very subtle like a softer version of encre noire or bottega venetta. I blind bought this because some folks compare this to IM Pulse of the Night which I really love but no, still I couldn’t figure out the scent. I’m afraid 😧 I bought a fake product since it’s almost gone in a few minutes. But as I read the reviews, I seem to kinda get it. I’ll do a full wearing and will update my review. Brb frag friends 👍 Update: This is a cool frag. I will echo the reactions of some fellow reviewers before me that this is the scent that you wanted to enjoy more within your scent bubble. It's not loud but its warm and comforting. I am still trying to figure any similarity with IM Pulse of the Night but the subtle gorgeous whiff that I got from time to time is what makes this frag beautiful. Wifey likes it. I also just got its sibling Z&V This is Him yesterday. It's equally gorgeous I would say. 9/10 for me “Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. The two most beautiful fragrance in the world” 🙏

I don't know if you have tested something of the French house Zadig & Voltaire but if not, I encourage you to do so because their perfumes are nothing similar to the commercials of today. This particularly smells of pure incense, a very fine and pleasant incense, mixed with woody notes, vanilla, amber, spices and patchouli. It seemed very original to me when I tried it and I loved it so much that I had to get a bottle. I cannot compare it with any because it is unique and very special. His name is JUST ROCK! and encourages to wear a leather jacket and listen to Cher's rock era at full volume. I love the touch of the bottle, just like its name are in golden letters, it seems to me that it makes it very special. The bottle has a side to be completed by its feminine part, which is white. Just Rock was launched in 2017 and is a flanker of This is Him (2016) The noses behind are Nathalie Lorson and Aurelien Guichars. The face is Sam Lammar.

I just recently discovered this fragrance - and absolutely love it. I prefer subtler scents that don’t need to announce you are in the room before you enter it - but can still be picked up by yourself or others around you from time to time. This fits that bill perfectly. If you like a warm, very comforting (and surprisingly dry) vanilla then you’ll enjoy this. I also tried This is Him, and enjoy it, but to me this is a bit more versatile and better suited for casual daytime wear, but could absolutely work if you dress it up a bit. Perfect for the colder weather - but I could see this working well in fall and early spring as well. Only downside - I’ve noticed I need to go a bit heavier on the sprays than I normally do - but given the price point - stocking up on a few extra bottles is pretty affordable. Overall, one of the best “budget” designer fragrances I’ve come across. 4/5!

Like people have said..pencil shavings. Yes it's the same dry woody vanilla you get in a lot of fragrances, that pencil shaving smell is not necessarily a bad thing just a subjective thing. The vanilla on the other hand, dark, sweet, rich, warm and quite addictive. Very masculine fragrance, not for the girls to wear really. I think this may be a bit too strong though for some occasions, it has nuclear performance and the silage on this is the thing this fragrance does the best it will fill up a room even more so than some beast mode fragrances I got. Projection matters and some fragrances just project while others don't, this one projects and fills a room very quickly and the smell lasts even after you leave the room

It’s ok nothing special I was expecting more. I guess I was hoping it smelled like pulse of the night but it really don’t. In the opening it my give off a hint of pulse of the night but that changes in about 10 minutes. This is overly vanilla and woods and patchouli. The spices are very mild. I rate this about a 5 maybe 5.5 out of 10 It’s plenty of stuff better than this by far I blind bought a 1.7 bottle found a good deal on it. Glad I ordered a sample of this is him instead of blind buying that one. Because if this smells so similar to that one as a lot of people are saying, pretty sure I may not like that one either

Dark vanilla scent. It reminds me a bit of Bvlgari Black, but much easier to wear and without the tar note. It's sweet but not overly, sticky sweet. People who find a lot of wintery modern fragrances too sweet and heavy would like this I think. Good for the office too. It's understated, not in your face but still has depth. I respect it but I don't think I need to own it. But don't let that stop you! I think this is an overlooked scent and it would make a great companion for the right person. If you like Prada Luna Rossa Black you will enjoy this too I think.

A darker more masculine version of costume national soul which I love as well, has a little bit of that wood shavings smell from a classroom pencil sharpener from the 80s which brings me back, with the vanilla and amber, CN soul has more of a lipstick and leather jacket vibe, but this is the dark side, it’s like vanilla amber wrapped in dark velvet....smoooth wood....the wood, that’s what it is that masculates and darkens it... it definitely gets noticed and get compliments but go easy as if can be cloying if oversprayed...2-3 sprays is all u need

Just Rock! For Him is a woody and sweet smell. When I first put my nose on it, my initial mental image was of a cabin out in the woods, warmed up by a small fireplace. I like to wear this one around Christmas time, because the vanilla and the spices add a certain coziness to the fragrance overall. I will say this is very well balanced. The dry woods and the sweet vanilla complement each other very well, and the spices help to add depth to the overall composition. This one can very easily step in to cloying territory, so spray sparingly.
