This Is Really Him!

Despite the fact that I generally avoid overly sweet scents, this one immediately won me over. The smell is a unique and captivating combination of dry, spicy, woody, and earthy vanilla sweetness. It manages to be both fresh and dark at the same time, which is a rare feat. The magic, for me, lies in the metallic element. It prevents the vanilla from becoming heavy or cloying and keeps the entire composition feeling vibrant and addictive. It’s what gives it that beautiful, dry kick. Here is the thing that bothers me: I cannot smell this fragrance on myself. Almost from the moment I spray it, I become completely anosmic to it. It's truly frustrating because I adore the scent! However, the fact that people around me constantly notice it and give me unsolicited praise proves that the scent's sillage and longevity are excellent. Do not let the fact that you can't smell it fool you. The performance is definitely there. Ultimately, though, I want to smell and enjoy the scent myself as well. So, this will take its place on the shelf for random sniffs or special wearings(netflix & chill). Now I'm looking for something in the same style if you can suggest something.....

Got this for my husband almost two years ago, and it has become his most-worn fragrance. Yes, it has a distinct metallic note, but to me it leans more toward the scent of metal/minerals in wet rocks and nature rather than anything industrial. Paired with palo santo and amberwood, it really softens and grounds the citrus, which can feel quite sharp in many men’s fragrances. A subtle floral touch and a hint of vanilla round it out nicely. I think this is a great option if you don’t enjoy scents that are overly citrusy, spicy or smoky, but still want something distinctly masculine. It projects strongly at first, then settles into more of a skin scent as the day goes on. If he applies it in the morning, I can still catch it on him at the end of the day. As long as you don’t overspray, it works perfectly as an everyday office fragrance. Overall, I love this!

I am in love. This smells like the (just rock) release. Great quality and plenty of Frankincense but the smokiness has been smoothed out and merged with some floral notes. I love florals in men's perfumes. Vanilla with smoked woods and a hint of florals. These are my initial thoughts so far. Great release, i don't get why people want to crap on this house. They are not your conventional trendy sweet bubble gum or blue fragrance house. They actually release more daring and outside the box type of perfumes. Dare i even say niche quality? They remind of loewe, great fragrance house, yet so underrated. Costume national fits this category too.

Magnificent scent from Z&V. The opening is a grapefruit and zesty lemon with little metallic vibe, few minutes then there is a metallic orange blossom, smoky woodiness and a sweetness just right. The metallic notes are not very intense. It is very well balanced with the orange blossom also this combination occurs the powdery make-up stuff sniff. It is not synthetic as someone with a sensitive nose, I did not experience anosmia or allergies, which is a great thing for me. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 6.5/10 Projection: 6.5/10 Versatility: 7.5/10

Transparent, creamy, woody and white floral sweetness. Quite divine. So unique and memorable. It smells like a white floral n woody creamy incense stick which is not burning. There's nothing that smells like it. I love to overspray this in a little colder eves and nights when I want to smell clean, unique, memorable and cozy. It's something which I like to wear when I'm alone and talking to myself. Weird but one of a kind. Quite a niche smell.

THIS IS AMAZING! I love this fragrance so much, I'd buy backup bottles if I had too. It's so unique but really mass appealing too. It gives off a niche sort of vibe, however, the longevity isn't the greatest. It still lasts around 5 hours, but not too much projection. If you want a daily perfume that smells amazing this is it! You can definitely pick this up from discounters for around $50USD. This is so good.

I get a bit of D&G The One line here (EDP/EDT) while it's on my skin. It's nice, it last about the same (or a bit more). Doesn't project much either. It could be a good alternative to that one if you enjoy the amber and the grapefruit but not the other notes there. Dating and close encounters material.

Warm, sweet, woody and smoky. Strong orange blossom and amberwood. Powdery to my nose, but I love this. Reminds me of Givenchy L'interdit Rouge. A great evening scent, but I think you could wear this to most occasions. The sillage is very strong, so it might be a bit overpowering in the summer months.

Very nice brighter and softer interpretation of the original (unrelated to the other flankers) for those who might find the original too dark or too strong.

How on earth would someone rate this perfume as similar to ysl myslf? There is nothing in common between them what so ever! 🤯 I am baffled😮

This one is for every seasons and lighter and more creamy than” this is him”. I love this!!!

This Zadig is a surprisingly good seasonal chameleon. Maybe best for autumn daytime. Could definitely work in spring if you have a breeze rolling through. Could keep you cozy in winter, too. I primarily get vanilla and incense in the opening that reminds me of the original. But there is that ethereal clear lightness to it as you would expect from the bottle. This isn’t some “eau fraiche” rework of This is Him, it is a smart reimagining by the brilliant Nathalie Lorson. The drydown gives me a steamy warm scent, like you just ironed a dress shirt made of many floopy white flowers. Sweet, carefree, posh, charming. I think the ambery creamy white floral trend in current men’s perfume is mostly in good taste, and this feels like an under-appreciated gem in that field. Another one I like at this price point is Illusione Bois Nu (which is more tropical fresh). 8.5/10

The more I wear it, the more I enjoy it. Lighter profile than the original. Slightly powdery. Palo Santo opens and then immediately retreats behind the orange and metallic notes. It seems to pop in and out. Up close, skin smells like head shop incense. There is a note which comes off medicinal - think Listerine and you got it. I imagine it’s the metallic note combining with the orange blossom and wood - this is pretty much your linear scent bubble for the night. I can’t imagine wearing this out to dinner or for date night. This is more for Hemp Fest, an Eli-Mac show, or quiet time at home since it gives off subtle meditation vibes.

Great all rounder, citrusy, woody with metallic amber undertones. Great release, great perfume. Sexy and attractive without being over-sweet, cloying or too synthetic. If you are a fan of woody and all-rounders but want something that doesn't tries so hard to be present (Such as Explorer or Bad Boy Cobalt), this is an excellent choice. Freat sillage and projection, modarate longevity. I want to pucrhase this when I ran out of my Sauvage EDP.

Predominantly powdery hay/bamboo + citrus, it's quite nice and fresh but somewhat an acquired taste although paradoxically a crowd pleasing one, I like it but I wouldn't buy it, a solid cologne in terms of performance and overall though. This is a smooth toned down orange tic tac in the form of perfume.

Необычный аромат металла с цитрусом. Слишком стойкий, прям чересчур. Нанес на руку, мыл руки 100 раз и ходил 2 раза в душ, спустя сутки всё ещё рука пахнет. Не стоит наносить слишком много(≥ 3х распыления) потому что начинает даже подташнивать от него. 100% не повседнев для меня, чисто на особые случаи.

I got a sample of this. I own This is Him! And love it. This is nice but for me it reminds me too much of Bad Boy Cobalt from Carolina Herrera, which is higher on my Want list. If you don't want the Lightning bottle by CH this might be a newer, slightly lighter alternative.

Very pleasant scent. It's fairly similar to This Is Him in a lot of ways. Would consider this the OG's daytime counterpart. My only question: if that is him, and this is really him, then who is he really? 🤔

original, rich yet light. youthful without being another obsolete sugary juvenile clone of a clone of a clone. with every release i like zadig & voltaire more and more. 7/10

I haven't tried this yet, but what is Z&V doing? This Is Him is one of the best SANDALWOOD fragrances ever made. That is the signature. Where is the Sandalwood in this?

Nice woody amber with a twist. It smells good. But sadly it feels very synthetic to me. This definitely has an Initio vibe, especially with Mystic Experience.

The smell is great but I am not impressed by The performance I get maximum 3 to 4 hours longevity, half an hour projection

I would call it as (unnecessary) perfume specially if you have the orginal one(This is him)

Totally in the realm of MYSLF. But the amberwood quickly overpowers everything else.

very basic smell, poor performance and overpriced, could see it being a daily for some but it's longevity is too poor for my liking

I had a 0.6ml sample of this last year and I thought I really liked it and that it was quite different from the OG which I own and like. I thought the difference was the Palo Santo Woods. But I have to admit after finally buying a small bottle that it is a bit redundant to own both. And I also own This is Him! Burning Love. Which I think is even closer to this one than the OG. When I got the sample it was only enough for one wear really and I misjudged it. If I was to judge this fragrance on it's own, it is lovely, I love the metallic/Orange Blossom peak a boo in the mid But the dry down is very like the OG DNA though and I probably should not have purchased this. I like it though I might even recommend it as the best "This is Him! This is Really Him!" DNA if you were to only buy one as it is probably more versatile I am just a little disappointed that I mis judged the sample I got and thought it was much different to what I got with the bottle. 4/5 overall

Tested it today at Sephora, reminds me a lot of L'Interdit Rouge / Intense by Givenchy! To me, this is very similar in the opening. When it dries down, it becomes woodier and more masculine. A female friend asked me if I was wearing L'Interdit when she smelled me (about 1 hour after applying it). The orange blossom and the amberwood are very present in my opinion. I can also smell vanilla. It tends toward the masculine side but a girl could wear it. Performance is moderate on me, strong the first hour then close to the skin. Try it if you can.

Addressing the frustration with the ratings you see so far. Don’t despair. Please notice that only 3 people have rated this perfume so far ( it is brand new after all) and it is not surprising that the variations are huge. I never pay any attention to these rating scales until there are at least 100 people who commented/rated. Think of it like medical research. If you were testing a new medication you would never trust your conclusions if you could only test it on 20 people. It takes bigger numbers to build up to a reliable “average.”

A frankincense bomb. So rich and smoky. Longevity is phenomenal, still going strong after 8 hours and a shower and it's projecting strongly. This is very similar to Boss Bottled Elixir in my opinion due to the heavy insense backbone both share so I think owning both would be redundant. Excellent quality and if you like the notes I recommend it. That said, it's not that versatile; I can't imagine this working in the summer heat and it may be too much for work. But then again, it could be an excellent date night signature instead. 8/10

I usually stay away from designer releases since almost all of them copy each other. All the same crap. Not this house though. A breath of fresh air. This has the Amouage Reflection kind of florals blended with vanilla and frankincense. I like it.

How are we supposed to figure this one out from the ratings??? It is either very faint or eternal, exclusively male or exclusively female, either well worth the price or vastly overpriced! They either love it or hate it! I give up!

It’s really good and when I smelled it smelled so familiar, and then I looked at the notes and realized it smells so close to ysl myself labsolu and in my opinion? Even better. Enjoyable scent.

@Gastro The same issue has been going on for the last 18 months. Probably longer. And Fragrantica couldn’t give a flying fu... The final verdict always comes out in the wash.

I just bought a bottle. If you like the original you should like this version too. It has similar character, just a bit lighter scent. Enjoyable.

This is a good fragrance. The woodiness with the orange blossom gives off bubblegum vibes.

The grapefruit in this is not as interesting as in other scents I know with that note.

A special frag from Zadig, unfortunately very very weak performance !

If it is put in a fancy package you can call it niche

This immediately reminded me of menthol cigarettes.
