Signature Halfeti Black Rose

So, this is mostly off of a first impression, I need to test this further but this is the initial day wear (it was just a couple of sissy sprays, haha). Here's the thing. The Zaharoff name has been target of some controversy of sorts, with some people complaining influencers get free bottles and whatnot. Any sane person in this day and age knows influencers are the new form of marketing. It's obvious that influencers would get free bottles to spread information and impulse to buy. That's just how it is nowadays. Whether or not you buy into this is up to you. Myself, I use influencers as a general compass but I still make my own mind. And so I told myself, when I get a Zaharoff bottle, I'll make up my own mind and get my own impression. And here we are! As a rose lover, it's obvious I would go for Black Rose Halfeti, both because of what it represents (the famous black rose of Halfeti, a type of rose which is highly protected and only grows in the city of Halfeti in Turkey) and also because let's face it, that gorgeous bottle! Honestly, if it were just a decent rose fragrance, I'd have been satisfied. Truthfully, I half expected some kind of clone of Portrait of a Lady or something like that. This is far from that. This is definitely a very masculine leaning rose fragrance, however. In the opening, you get a very zesty, bright peppery rose. Refreshing! This quickly transitions into a woodier tone (cedar), it actually reminds me a lot of Guerlain's Rosa Palisandro, which I very much enjoy. As it goes further into the drydown, it gains smoky undertones, which I think is brought by cypriol and frankincense. I don't smell much oud here, which I'm thankful for, otherwise I think it would turn out too familiar, too similar to other fragrances. There's some familiarity for sure with things like Portrait of a Lady, Ombre Nomade, (Loumari's) Saja but the brighter, fresher opening and smoky, darker drydown sets it apart. Longevity-wise, this is surprisingly long lasting. Definitely good bang for your buck, I sprayed this at 4pm and by the time I'm going to bed in a few, it's still quite strong and I can smell it when I move. Very pleasantly surprised, I know it lasts at least a good 6 hours and I'm expecting at least a good 10 hours probably when decently sprayed. I'd say this is more cool to cold weather, in the summer it might be too much, the drydown is very brooding. I love it, but it might not be for everyone. All in all, very pleased with my purchase. George, you do great work. You've got a new customer. Very curious to get samples of several others from the house now.

SUMMARY: 9/10 Strange but short lasted opening that settles in to a delightful rose incense fragrance. Strong though intimate performance. RAMBLING THOUGHTS: I currently have 73 fragrances in my collection (along with various samples), and this is the closest I have come to giving a fragrance a 10/10... but there is just something off putting about the opening. In the "biography" for this fragrance it mentions that the noses behind this fragrance found early attempts "too safe" so they set out to make it more challenging, which they appear to have done by overloading the opening with basil and pepper. Perhaps I am just not up for the challenge, but the opening just doesn't work for me. Thankfully the opening only lasts for a few minutes, and the fragrance starts to settle down in to an amazing (and safe) musky rose fragrance. On my skin it smells like a delightful rose incense (sans the overpowering nature of real/burning incense), and on my clothes it takes on more of the profile of a luxurious rose soap. The vetiver and musk really help balance out the rose to create a truly unisex fragrance (perhaps even masculine leaning), and as someone who loves both vetiver and rose, I am absolutely addicted. The performance on this fragrance is also great, though it is a more intimate performance. Give it a decent number of sprays and you will be smelling it all day long, as will anyone who comes in for a hug or otherwise gets close, but it doesn't necessarily project or fill a room. Others will catch it on the breeze though. The bottle (larger bottle) and the box (both sizes) are also works of art. The only two boxes I have kept out of the 70+ fragrances I own are this one and another Zaharoff fragrance.

This is such an interesting fragrance. I am a big fan of Zaharoff, I have close to 10 bottles. This is one that I admit I didn't love right away. It was one of the scenarios where my nose was only fixated on one particular accord. I couldn't stop smelling basil for some reason. I put it to the side for a bit. I came back to it recently... just wow. This has just overtaken Royal X as my signature scent. That is not just from a single respray. This is after days of wearing. Its all I want to put on at the moment. Its one of those things where, nothing else smells good right now. It scratches the itch and then some. Perhaps the most remarkable part - I live in hot and humid Mexico. This somehow works very well in heat. Its masculine in a way where it walks the line between being too dark and thus, only suitable for cold weather, and being just enough to make it masculine for any season. Something about this combination is just so satisfying. Woody, a little incensey, a unique rose undertone, masculine, and addictive, yet also approachable. Its not a hyper niche smell. Its also remarkable as many frags I will go noseblind to, including Zaharoffs. This one I get whiffs of all day. It has above average performance longevity wise. The projection is perfect. Its there but its not in your face. It becomes part of your aura and then a little bit extra. Zaharoff itself is a great brand. This one though, they knocked it out of the park. It just so happens the bottle is also arguably the best too. The stars aligned for this one. This may be the best from the house and that's saying a lot.

This is Special! I'm talking unique, spectacular, breathtaking kind of Special. Spraying this on gives me the image of coming out of the shower, going outside and grabbing the fresh laundry, put it on, laying down in a soft bed of roses, eating love hearts candies. Such a good rose fragrance. I'm not generally a rose fan, but this i love. This is Not a feminine rose fragrance. This is 100% a rose for men (wearable by a confident woman, probably). Different from all other rose fragrance i've ever smelled. It has a fresh, light, and almost airy feel. With a Slightly powdery sweetness, it becomes super fresh and lively. It almost dances in the air. Beautiful, mouthwatering, sharp and fresh, real rose. Smells like there is lavender in it. Has a clean and woody scent to it as well. The more i smell it, the more i fall in love with it. I can see this working any time of the year. Maybe not at the very peak of summer with clear skies and 30 degrees celsius, but summer after the sun has gone down, Oh yeah. I used to have "D&G, The One Mysterious Night", and there are some clear similarities here. Clearly two different scents. But the closest i can compare it to. Score 9.5/10 This is as good as a rose fragrance can be, and is in the "Masterpiece" category for me. I had to buy a 120ml/4oz bottle and the paired scented lotion, which is also spectacular, both in scent and moisturizing. I can't say it's blind buy safe. But it's 7USD for a 3ml sample at Zaharoff website (all the samples are $7). It is SO worth sampling.

This is my 7th Zaharoff fragrance. Smelling this really makes me wonder how this company manages to use such high quality materials for a price half of what I seem to have to pay elsewhere. Aside from that... THE FRAGRANCE - This really makes me think and feel about going to southern Italy. Plants and flowers everywhere, the dirt and dust in the city and smelling all the people who are really passionate about their fragrances. To me this is floral, slightly dark and woody, but not like "sweet ,creamy woods," but actual wood. This is really beautiful and masculine. It isn't sweet, or fresh. Definitely a unique dark floral scent. CRITICISM - would be the sillage and longevity. Better than an eau de colonia, which is like 1.5 hours sillage, 4 hours longevity on me. Turns into a skin scent in 2-3 hours with 6 sprays and is gone in 7 hours. My inner goth wanted to love this fragrance so much, what with the very cool bottle and purple liquid and all, but I did the grown up thing and only bought a little sample of it, and now I wish I had gone for the full size. This one is signature scent material for me right there. Call me simple, call me boring, but I love it a lot. It opens with a strong pepper note that makes my nose itch and eager for more, then quickly settles into the most perfect rose incense and stays that way all throughout wear. On my clothes it shifted to a soapy rose with a bit less smoke in it. It's such an easy smell to love, I can see myself reaching for it every day when I don't feel like wearing one of my other - more 'important', so to speak - frangrances. Longevity is... fine. It stayed on my skin for a good 6 hours, little projection after three, but that's fine, I don't love fragrances that project all that much. Will be getting the full bottle someday soon and wear the heck out of it.

This is a peculiar rose scent, one that I've never tried before. A fresh, woody and spicy fragrance with rose at its core. It's somehow dark and brooding yet like a moth to a flame somehow inviting. Dracula wears this perfume. Youthful looking face but actually more mature in age than you know. Handsome but dangerous. Confidently stylish and well-dressed. Not everyone can pull this scent off. In terms of performance, I did notice that this only lasted about 5 hours until becoming a skin scent. It lasted longer on my jacket though. I'm one of the rare few who doesn't believe everything has to be BeAsT mOdE as I like to wear both a daytime and night time fragrance. Because I plan on typically wearing this in the evening, I don't mind the lower longevity. This isn't a knock, just something to be aware of. I did get a compliment on this fragrance from a pair of spanish speaking latinas at Sam's Club who didn't realize that I spoke spanish.

Going in search of the legendary rose for excellence: that of Halfeti. Searching through the thorny bushes, with determination, to be captivated by this flower so unique and precious. Black Rose is not a rose fragrance. It opens with peppery, slightly hesperidian scents, with strongly masculine overtones (so much so that it brings me back to vintage men's fragrances), and then slowly opens up to give way to a dark rose, bathed by these aromas so strong and virile, which are slightly fading but always present. In short, for the man who never has to ask, sexy and intriguing. ‘Self-portrait’ painted by De Chirico.

I blind bought the 4oz bottle because I had to have the full design bottle, although admittedly I'll never use this whole thing. It smells like a new school masterpiece version of an old school fragrance. Very realistic rose, masculine, mysterious, rich, still vibrant, touch of pepper, dense oil concentration Long lasting and very well projecting. Only time I wouldn't wear it is in very high heat, then again it doesn't really matter. Just do one or 2 less sprays. It'll smell awesome in the heat too I'm sure

This is a quite simply a wonderful rose fragrance. It's resinous, dark and mysterious. I would highly recommend to anyone who thinks rose fragrances simply cant be masculine. The bottle itself is a work of art, and only adds to the whole experience. I have felt the need to post this positive review to counteract the already negative reviews, based on zero experience of owning or experiencing anything from Zaharoff and who clearly have the inability to leave their prejudices and pre-judgements to one side.

This is a masculine, clean, deep rose and spicy wood fragrance. Very sophisticated and very grown-up. It is barely sweet, and puts off class and maturity. I get a lightly barbershop fougere structure, with rose and spice, woods and clean oud. The reviewers are irrelevant. Either the fragrance is good or it's not. This is very very good, and performance is fantastic. Big fan of this. I believe it could be worn in three seasons, even summer evenings may be doable if sprayed lightly. 9/10

I really enjoy this fragrance. It is a wonderful masculine leaning rose. The oud in the background gives it that extra bump to push it to the masculine side. I have several other rose oud fragrances and this with Mr. Elegance from Atrium are my favorites. I fully admit I am a floral fragrance lover. Rose and Iris will win me over every time. I don't rate fragrance as it diminishes the work the perfumers put in. All I say is this is wonderful and George Zaharoff does not miss.

Rose Is the new Male. And this is an anthem for a new kind of masculinity. Smooth, gentle, proud and bold. I can't stand someone stating here that it smells cheap or like dish soap. Please, for Pete's sake, go see a doctor. It smells like a dark knight fighting for his beloved, rushing thru thorns, wild forests and bashing red dragons. Then you find out that the dark knight is Vlad Tepes. But still with a gentle, beating heart.

Just received 6 decants from Zaharoff. I can tell you none of them smell cheap. Maybe Nasal.Drip needs to get that checked out. 😉 Black Rose came off as a little too feminine for my taste in the very opening on paper, but on skin it dries down to a very sophisticated and elegant scent. I see this shining in all seasons, day or night, in upscale casual settings.

Powdery, Fresh, herbaceous rose fragrance. Versatile elegance. Unisex while slightly more masculine leaning. Not as clean or complex as Amouage Lyric man; still full bottle worthy.

I generally don't care for floral fragrances on myself but do like the smell of roses out of all flowers in the garden. Included this in my Zaharoff sample order because I was figuring on getting the large bottle eventually just for collecting, if nothing else. But WOW, was really surprised - a masculine rose scent. Dark, not overly sweet, thick and creamy, almost like a heavy blue fragrance but as a dark red perfume. Very good performance and a beautiful bottle (full size, 4 oz). FB for me with this baby. A definite formal occasion scent for me. Would work any season. It's not too dark and heavy for warm weather use; only need to control the number of sprays. Probably performs even better in warm weather. Really shines at night.

I admit to blind-buying this for the bottle. I just added it onto an order when I saw it online. Not a huge rose fan and don't enjoy most ouds. I guess I'm incredibly lucky that this is dark and woody, with enough semisweet coumarin that I'm actually liking it. This was a complete blind buy, cuz I am sucker for any sort of dark rose (and that bottle is beyond gorgeous). I signed up for the pre-order for what I believe was the 2nd batch of the 4.0 oz. The bottle I got just smells like hand soap with a hint of rose. Decided to buy a sample from them to compare (even tho I have no idea what batch the sample is from), but it is much more spicy/much less soapy. Really hoping that over time my bottle will develop and get better. UPDATE - Been 3 months since my original review, and the soapiness has gone down quite a bit, and the performance has greatly improved. With that being said, I still don't understand the hype/praise around this. Don't get me wrong, it is a very solid scent, but I am just not blown away by this at all like others seem to be, and I still don't understand how people are calling this a "dark" fragrance (maybe my sniffer is broken). The description for this mentioned that the original attempt at creating it was "too safe", so they started over from scratch. I just fail to see how this final product is anything BUT a safe/blind reach frag. It honestly just seems like a high end men's shower gel (which I just noticed that this is now actually available as a shower gel) with a hint of spice and rose. Who knows, maybe it will continue to develop and change even more over time.

Opening reminds me of a murkier and woodier take on a similar fragrance from this brand that I actually own, Zaharoff Pour Homme. Pour Homme is a really beautiful modern take on a shaving cream fougere (similar to Masculin Pluriel). Halfeti Black Rose has a similar DNA but it just isn’t as good — it isn’t as vibrant, sweet, classy or creamy. The rose note is present but it comes across a bit synthetic and buried in a vaguely peppery woodiness. I see they were going for a “romantic” take on this DNA but it ends up being a bit bogged down and boring. My advice would definitely be to check out the original if you are interested in this brand, and at this price point there are dozens of superior niche masculine roses I could suggest. Incense Rose by Tauer, A Day in My Life by Buxton, even Gucci Guilty EDP I prefer. Not bad, but a bit uninspiring. 7.0/10

Fairly pleasant, but comes across somewhat synthetic in a not great way. I do own this bottle, just for clarification. I've been wearing it today, and to me, the rose like others have said isn't a very natural rose. But, for the price I wouldn't expect something like this to have that natural rose quality you might see in something like Narjesi. There's a big dose of black pepper in the top, which does drown out a lot of the rose; the fragrance doesn't really feel 'black' to me. It's more likened to something like Rose Prick from Tom Ford, but this is heavier. One of the issues with Zaharoff is the performance, this on me actually is one of the better ones. I'm not a massive fan of most of the line but I found this one to be OK, I do much prefer Aurum which released at similar points. 2.5/5

Unfortunately this doesn't quite work for me. I found the rose accord/note as being too thin and wan while being overpowered by the Noir base which I wasn't really a fan of to begin with. If you like Noir then this will probably a good choice for you. Overall it doesn't rank very highly in my Zaharoff tier list being somewhere near the bottom alongside Signature Royale. The new Bloom on the other hand is miles better and sits close to the top of the Zaharoff collection alongside his original Signature Pour Homme (I'll put my thoughts on the respective Fragrantica page when it's created for Signature bloom)

@RGH01...is correct....ugh I had a bunch of samples sent to my house and I have to say I am very disappointed in the projection and performance of all of them except Signature Rose. ...its really sad because the hype is so real. lots of black pepper....a little rose....and almost no projection.....sad day.

I don't see the point of this when Signature Rose and Noir exist. Rose is far superior in every single way and Noir is far better on its own. My least favorite from Zaharoff other than leather tabac.

I really wanted to like this, but, man. I just get generic artificial hand soap top notes with no body to support them. No rose. No “darkness”. Just regret. Zaharoff Signature Rose is so much better.

Halfeti Black Rose: does it smell like black roses (whatever that is)? No, it doesn’t. It’s a rather cheap excuse for a rose fragrance with little to no creativity or imagination, simply a scent to appeal to the masses and sell as much as possible. The scent is obviously rosy, but not in a nice natural way. The rose is a bit screechy, plasticky and very soapy - almost like a cheap rose water. This is contrasted by some generic citrus and an obnoxious overload of black pepper with some vague woods in the base. Overall I’m not impressed at all with this fragrance, it smells very lazy unfortunately. My initial thought when I put this on my skin is it smells sort of like Cool Water with added rose and pepper.

Ok ok, definitely no basil, no bergamot, but thank god no to very little turkish rose in first 3 hours and then its so weak its not a big issue. I do get interesting rose start that could be usable for men, but its underlined by heavy black plastic that is bit burned - bakelite. Makes it not too sweet and not cloying but beware. Longevity mediocre.

Wanted this for months.. got it gifted ... so disappointed! Smells like old spice with cheap generic rose. Very strong tho but I didn’t give it longer than 30 mins before washing it off.... Shame

Signature Halfeti Black Rose This review will be both a breakdown of the notes but also my personal letter towards this fragrance. I’m not an expert however, so this is my novice nose and my first review, as I’ve just recently started my fragrance journey 2 years ago. ***Disclaimer: I didn’t get sent this fragrance or am being compensated in any way. I am simply a working student with a love for fragrances, as it keeps me sane and brings me much joy*** Within the first few seconds, you’re hit with the captivating pepper, and some herbal and fresh facets from the bergamot and basil, but simultaneously you can sense the black/dark (I shall use the adjective dark for the majority of the review as it will help me to further convey my thoughts) rose that is beginning to bloom. The comforting kind of dark, the kind that brings comfort and peace after a long day of too much socializing and too much noise. The dark rose blooms throughout the top and middle notes, all the while being supported by the other accompanying notes that introduce elements of a fougère and a very slight barbershop feel. I also get a noticeable incense that wisps it's way through until the very end. Furthermore, the scent also introduces noticeable warmth (maybe from the amber, musks, and woods), and it starts to feel more intimate, but not quite. So far it is still the meet and greet stage. The dark rose is the centre and heart of the fragrance and it continues to dance while the other notes continue to support it with warm and comforting music, until it reaches a bit halfway through the middle notes; now the dark rose meets its main dance partner, oud, before heading into the base notes. The oud here doesn’t take the lead, and instead smoothly joins in to allow the dance to become more passionate, developing into a loving and caring relationship. Sounds a little jarring right? It went from a meet and greet of a beautiful dance and song, to a full blown beautiful relationship. But it is the complete opposite of jarring. The oud elevates the rose while being intertwined with it. It’s the earthy, friendly, and slightly medicinal oud. The dark rose still remains the centre of attention however, as its main partner oud and the other notes know that the blooming of the rose is complete and it must be taken care of so that it may continue to dance without being interrupted. The delicacy of the nature of a rose like this is kept in mind. This scent is unapologetically dark without being sweet. It is a true black/dark rose. I love that it isn’t sweet and remains true to its name with incense and oud being the other notes I pick up the most. I was on the search for a signature fragrance like this, something that spoke to me like it does and one that meets my personality. I’ve tried other roses that others have said that were dark, and I was always met with roses that were either too bright, or too sweet. Keep in mind though, this vibe isn’t dark and goth like. Nor is it evil or harsh. Refer to my initial sentences to understand what I mean by dark. It is an introverts dream scent. Longevity is great, with 1-2hrs of soft to moderate projection, and then it settles to a skin scent and creates a miniature bubble for the remaining 7-8hrs. Totalling to 8-9hrs. Perfect for any season and weather, accept for very high heat, but even then if you wanted to, you can. Black Rose is a mature, sophisticated, and personal fragrance that can be used casually, formally, and of course romantically, while being kind and safe. You can dress it down or up. I can’t see this being hated (but you never know I suppose). If you’re looking for the vibe and nuances that I’ve just described, with high quality ingredients, then I strongly recommend sampling at the very least. Also needless to say, the bottle is incredibly gorgeous. Very unique and fitting. In conclusion, Black Rose is sensual in the most genuine and loving way possible. It brings me tranquility and peace. Isn’t it funny how we want a fragrance so bad just because of the bottle and presentation? This is one of those. If you are new to Rose this will blow your mind. However I think Lataffa Amethyst would a better cheaper introduction. For those with niche Rose experience you will this fragrance synthetic and lack luster. This is the most masculine rose frag I’ve ever smelled and it’s easily a signature scent. I do like it but for the price you can waaaay better rose frags. However if the presentation is living rent free in your head well you know what to do

This is an interesting take on Rose. Not like your grandma's house or garden but a more subtle take. Think of Signature Noir with Rose, aromatic, spicey, lightly floral and dark with resin. It lasts a good 6hrs on skin, first wear. It's not a powerhouse but a surprise that pops up from time to time.

Very aromatic, but not in a good way. Reminds me of an air freshener, very sharp. I get a little of the rose as well and lots of pepper. Personally I expected more. Dry down isn't so bad, but still... A very generic scent

I purchased 3 decants directly from Zaharoff, this being 1 of them, and let me tell you, all 3 smelled cheap, synthetic, and watered down. Hard pass for me. Imo, don't waste your time, or money, with this house.
