Jo's Rhubarb

I got this today and upon FIRST excited sprays onto the back of my hand - I really couldn't believe it but I got a strong scent of 'weed' after wondering what was that - was this celery? I thought this is celery - or was this - cannibus (weed, bud, marijuana) and some body odour mixed with touch of tart red pink rhubarb? Maybe I don't know or appreciate rhubarb since I didn't spend my childhood cooking with it or picking it or buying it. After a couple of hours it was all gone. What I thought would be a real winner turned into something more .. shall we say ... ominous. 5/10. Then, later after some time, it settled on my perfume shelf, I sprayed again and got a delightful (still a tinge of weed) but more sour tart rhubarb note. Then the next day I let my bottle settle in a less cold room and it settled into a pink sour sweet rhubarb that is lovely. All green and pink. I like it. 7/10. Two months later update: Jo's Rhubarb is no longer a like. It's a LOVE and it's amazing and different and addictive. Great lasting power too, not eternal but at least six hours. It's gorgeous. 8/10. At the same time, a scent that most people hated, rated poorly and bad-mouthed I loved and delighted in so ... this goes to show ... be careful out there perfume lovers!

Blind buy score for me. I’m loving it! (Note: I’ve never smelled fresh rhubarb, but I can imagine this is what it’s like.) Short story: Bitter, crispy combo with zero sweetness. 100% unisex. Earthy and organic. Performs better than other Zaras. Great value. You will not smell like anyone else. Spirit lifting for chores and errands. You have to like green, bitter notes. Definitely not blind buy safe, unless you’re willing to risk $30. Long story: Imagine yourself plucking a weed - some kind of garden variety weed from moist soil. Now, rub it between your palms to crush the stem. You see a white milk, but it’s not lactonic. You set it down next to some dry, crunchy vetiver. Then, sit on a wicker chair next to this pile, and grab a spoon and eat your breakfast - a barely ripe grapefruit. As you dip your spoon in, the oil from the rind disperses into the air and it floats by on a warm breeze. You take a deep breath and your shoulder tension melts away. Worked out for me!

I walked past the box at Zara and smelled this aloft in the air and was transfixed. I snapped it up and have been wearing it constantly, it's so fresh and juicy it's like when you get an ice cold Fresca and it bubbles into your nose. I am obsessed! I never thought I would love rhubarb, grapefruit, and vetiver together but it's really brilliant and what a steal at $40! However... I feel like on me becomes a skin scent immediately?I think my nose is broken or there's a molecule in here too big for my sniffer to pick up. I think I probably near killed my coworkers because I reapplied 3x through the day and now that I'm reading all of your comments, the projection and silage are a lot bigger than I thought. Yikes! Oof!

Usually not a fan of Zara's fragrances but this is lovely! Very tart and fresh and not at all synthetic smelling to me. Somewhat simple/linear, but I'm honestly really impressed for the price. Performance isn't crazy, but I have gotten complimented on it hours into wearing it. Lasts fine on clothes. While I understand the comparison to Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe (they're both rhubarb heavy) I think they're quite different. Eau Rhubarbe is much, much less green and sweeter to me. It's like Jo's Rhubarb has more of the rhubarb leaves and Eau de Rhubarbe is only the ripest stems. May or may not be relevant: the only fragrance I could stomach putting on last week when I'd had way too much wine the day before ;)

While I can understand the comparisons to cannabis, I do not get any of that from Jo's Rhubarb. If you like the fresh, bright, slightly sour qualities of FRESH rhubarb, then you should just blind buy this online. Zero sugar in this one. It's true to its description: rhubarb, vetiver, and grapefruit. YUM. Decidedly unisex and green, if you saw "Rhubarb" and immediately expected some strawberry rhubarb dessert-type frag, then please skip this one. This fragrance is a knockout. It has the bright, green astringency of freshly chopped rhubarb, paired with the same bright grapefruit we saw in Vetiver Pamplemousse. I can't wait to wear this all summer.

If you love the smell of Rhubarb then you’ll definitely love the smell of the fragrance too. For me it was like love at first scent! It’s a perfect balance of vetiver with rhubarb. This has to be my second favourite scent from the ‘Zara Emotions’ collaboration with Jo Malone. Very light, fresh, aromatic and I can’t stop smelling it! I just wish it lasted longer and had more sillage but was still lucky to find this overseas since it isn’t carried in Malaysia.

A bracingly vegetal rhubarb opening over vetiver. Linear, earthy, unisex - and definitely not for everyone lol. But if you like vetiver, especially linear vetiver compositions, this is a good one for the price. Or if you are trying out vetiver but don't want to risk it on something expensive, try this one. Reminds me a bit of Lalique's Encre Noire, but replaces the cedar with the rhubarb accord.

Rhubarb heaven. It's all I could smell throughout and I wouldn't want it any other way! Hermès Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate addicts can enjoy this fragrance as it's kinda similar, yet for a fraction of the price. It's very elegant and comforting. Go for it.

Smells just like the name indicates - rhubarb. Lovely, pleasant, realistic, tart rhubarb. Well done. I wish it came in a travel spray.

Green rhubarb with slight citrus grapefruit! One of my fav!

This is the scent a young, urban werewolf would have on him after a day spent in the woods with his best friends, engaging in human activities! It just returned in stock, so I thought to leave a review. Jo's Rhubarb is the 9th addition to the Emotion Collection done by Jo Malone for Zara. I really love that line, I have them all, and I enjoy them very much, specially for layering, so I blind bought this too...the big bottle because they did not release the 40ml or 10ml of this yet. I don't know what I was expecting...maybe something sour and herbal, but surely nothing so heavy and smoked. I am not familiar with many rhubarb perfumes, but I would say that this is not a pure fresh rhubarb fragrance, at least not in a classical way, in here it gives a "smoked cannabis seeds" effect, layered on a dry and smoky heavy vetiver, plus some earth/soil accords. Only after that a touch of true vegetal rhubarb and herbal notes can be detected. It is quite a strange perfume, unique, specially for the house of Zara. And I am happy Jo took herself the liberty of being more creative, producing a multifaceted fragrance which is not so easily loved like the rest of the collection. It is truly intense and it has more weight compared to the others Jo Malone for Zara, most of which are louminous and vibrant fragrances. This is more heavy, both in intensity and style compared to the others. The opening is strong, no citrus notes that I can detect, no fruitiness from the grapefruit, which still manages however to give a watery element to the fragrance; it's not sour as much as it is acidic (probably the rhubarb and grapefruit togheter), and it is herbal in a very raw way. Also vegetable like. As I was saying before, I 100% smell cannabis! Not the green parts of the plant, not the pure smoke, but the smell of the seeds when you forget them in your joint and they burn, making a little hole in the clothes or carpets they touch after falling! So photorealistic... This is the main result, not a pure rhubarb, and last until the dry down. Infact the rhubarb remains abstract, it lends greeness and acidity, but absolutely no fruitiness or floral touches (as it typically does in other more known rhubarb based fragrances). On the packaging I read Jo used "bold strong pinstripes of red and green rhubarb", so maybe the explanation lies there! The vetiver is smoky too, heavy and dry, and is accompanied by an accord of soil (it's very distinct, this can not be just the usual earthiness of the vetiver). Again, on the packaging, it is described as "grey" vetiver, and I would have to agree. So, after all, the rhubarb in here reads as dirty and muddled up in wet soil. There is a light woody touch in the base, damp and humid wood; in the heart of the dry down the smokiness and vetiver lie down a bit and you can smell the odor of a forest during summer, full of dry erbs, morning humidity and vegetation. Strangely, in the last fase of the dry down, you can smell the remains of some citrus. Before I move on to some compareson, I must add that I can see why some people may be reminded of body odor when smelling this...I detected, just in the opening, a green note reminiscent of cooked peas (and that sometimes reads as b.o.), but I can vouch that it is very feeble, disappears quickly and almost adds to the scent! Another peculiar facet I picked up in the mid of the scent is something irony and meaty...like iron and smoke togheter, a little barbecuey (but do not quote me on this, probably my mind is playing tricks on me...flying away to some forgotten summery night spend smoking weed and cooking in the opening near a woodland, with my old friends, during my youth). Some other few words need to be spent on a particular comparison many made with Vetiver Pamplemusse, from Zara x Jo Malone's own collection; I heard someone say that they are so similar...even interchangeable, but I have to strongly disagree. Vetiver Pamplemusse is citrus and mandarin based, juicy, ripe, louminous, has some mouth watering grapefruit as the star, the base is vetiver, true...but in that one it is clear while still earthy, all green no grey, not smoked at all...Jo's Rhubarb is the opposite. This is a smoke bomb, its acidity scratches your throat and its smokyness makes you cough; it's gloomy, deep and earthy, not at all transparent or citrusy. And I love it for it! Werewolf-y for sure! All things considered, I enjoyed this very much but I think it's a touch too strong and peculiar for me. My taste are not refined enough to sport this just now. If I am going to wear it I shall probably spray this just on my wirst and knees, because it is very strong, two sprays filled my room. Probably they reworked the formula during the period this was not sold anymore since I never heard someone speak about how overpowering and intense this is. Many describe it as a fresh and clean smell...and also say it is a copy of Vetiver Pamplemusse so... If you care to know my opinion on the Zara x Jo Malone Emotion Collection as a whole, I spoke about it in great detail in my review of Waterlily Tea Dress. To synthesise a bit: -they have a great price for their quality which is very apothecary like, surely they smell more expensive then what you actually pay; -they are always in stock, often in promo, and offered in 10, 40 and 90 ml, with candles and cosmetics of the same scents; -they are good layering tools, many houses arose on the market with just the layering claim, Zara offers to us 9 of them at a fraction of the price and with honest quality; - you get the Jo Malone style, minimalistic yet impactfull, and very photorealistic. Surely a premium experience for an highstreet brand; -good packaging and presentations. Edit: thank you to whomever voted down my review just because I smoked cannabis in the past...wait for my review of China White by Nasomatto, I shall manage to offend your sensibility even more.

Pleasant! If you love the really tart fruits, grapefruit and rhubarb, then I think you'd enjoy this. It is just the opening few minutes when the rhubarb is in charge and then grapefruit grows more dominant. Even so, as I find with every Zara fragrance, performance is poor. It is very linear, and I "lost contact with it" at about an hour or 90 minutes in. I will say it reminds me quite a bit of Dolce and Gabbana 3 L'Imperatrice. The latter is much more my preference. More interesting and better lasting--not quite so linear. But I don't totally disparage this one at all. It was a pleasant surprise, as Jo Malone scents rarely ever work for me.

I like blind buying Zara and this did not disappoint. Well, initially I wasn't that much into it, but after letting it mature for a few months it started smelling full bodied rhubarb with some bright vetiver. Smells so clean and airy. Super easy to wear. Love the Hermès rhubarb too, but that veers a little less casual for me.

Really quite a good and true interpretation of rhubarb to start, the best I've experienced. Incredibly fresh and crisp at first then mellows and morphs into grapefruit. Maybe 10 minutes in is where things go ~herbal.

Fresh rhubarb and nothing else. Good longevity and projection. Cannabis? You need words with your dealer. lol. Definitely not.

Am I crazy or am I smelling mint and herbs?

Like most of Zara's fragrances, weak performance - undetectable after the 2-hour-mark. Before that with a crystalline and tart rhubarb note. Which is great for Spring, but nothing more. Something must have been giving the stage for the rhubarb, just not sure if that was grapefruit and vetiver. Tends floral, almost rose-like and therefore for me more feminine than unisex. All together, too weak to consider at all.

its and unusual scent for me. Opening is very sharp kinda sweet but actually its not. After 30 minutes its smeels like tea leafes but nothing like cannabis to me. In about a hour its starts to settel and vetiver comes up. Overall its a unique fresh&sour fragrance but not a crowd pleaser not very long lasting. Worth to try but its not for everybody.

I have mixed feelings about this. Chic packaging as if it is $350 from a new niche brand. The bottle was designed to look and feel like a flask, with a nozzle that spreads fragrance widely and evenly. When I wear this, a moment I feel edgy AF due to the rare combination of sour rhubarb and earthy vetiver; the next moment I feel like a heavy smoker who worked out 12 hours ago, the sweat mingled with cigarette that ferments into a sour odor, almost grungy. Not a fresh scent by any means.

The opening smells like real rhubarb for a few seconds but it turn out very cannabis like. If you are looking for a great rhubarb fragrance then I suggest you to choose Hermès Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate. It is real juicy rhubarb and it doesn't have any cannabis vibes.

The opening is like a mix of stress sweat and unwashed asshole. It settles into a juicy green vegetal scent. But the opening made me angry, like what the fuck did I do to deserve that? I wanted to cry.

One of my current faves. Don't understand the cannabis comparison, to be honest. It smells very sharp, fresh, and green. I'd say fragrantica's categorization of it as aromatic, woody, green/earthy/citrus isn't right, at least to me. I would call it fresh, citrus, green. Very bright, sharp rhubarb and grapefruit, no sugar but the natural sweetness that comes from grapefruit. I think most of the sharpness comes from the grapefruit, but it's definitely a rhubarb fragrance and not a grapefruit one. It doesn't border on TOO green/vegetal like I think Waterlily Tea Dress kind of does, it's sweet and fresh enough to still feel like a personal fragrance to me and not "sniffing a vegetable". I don't really get any vetiver and I don't think it's "earthy", but I also didn't get much vetiver from Vetiver Pamplemousse either. O__o

Made a special trip to sniff this out. I’ve been craving a rhubarb scent, and the Hermes is just too expensive to consider at the moment. It started beautifully tart and clear, but quickly turned bad on my skin. It had a strange smell of... fuel, like diesel. Luckily it disappeared within an hour. SO disappointed, because I wanted to love it, wanted it to smell like that first juicy hit. Just didn’t work on me. However, I did grab the Vetiver Pamplemousse.

This is a fantastic rhubarb scent, but I think you have to be the type of person who LOVES rhubarb to appreciate it. To me, the scent is purely fresh, tart rhubarb. This is a fresh sparkling scent that would be perfect for Spring/Summer. I do understand the cannabis note, but I think you would have to think about cannabis while you smell it.

Jo's Rhubarb is pretty similar to Vetiver Pamplemousse if you replace the grapefruit with rhubarb. And just like Vetiver Pamplemousse the vetiver is the player here, because it is the note that lasts. I find it unisex leaning towards masculine. Compared to Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate, Jo's rhubarb is more aromatic and less sweet.

I don’t have this one but I just wanted to say the following. To some people the synthetic scent of grapefruit smells like BO, it is like the for me so most grapefruit fragrances smell disgusting to me, doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the perfume tho.

I prefer Zara Vetiver Pamplemousse, to which this is often compared. Rhubarb here feels dirty, sweet, and muddled. Seems most others prefer this.
