No Night

A smoky lavender, almost oudy. Smells like a campfire but benign, though quite dry and dark. Incensy for sure. This smells more niche than its origins would have you believe. The sandalwood in the base is the same as the SANDALWOOD ZARA from the Overdose collection of 2019. That fragrance reminds of Le Labo Santal 33, and there are traces of that here with No Night as well. Another winner from ZARA.

This reminds me of both the discontinued Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme and CDG Incense Kyoto. And the Zara version doesn't smell cheap, 29.9 for both the No Day and No Night set (I don't like the No Day at all). I couldn't find the single package of No Night in the Zara store I went to. But I think 29.9 for even just one bottle is still great value.

This is a real hidden gem of Zara. It is so different in what Zara normally brings out. I don't get the apple note at all. Its a dark scent. Great for fall. It does have a incense oud kinda vibe. I do get the sandalwood and a little bit of lavender. Overall I give this a 8 out of 10. Great for 21+.

Picked this up because if the comparison to other incense frags I enjoy. The combination of fruit and resin is really nice, not too serious or austere or churchy, but also not overly playful or sweet. The lavender in the opening is maybe my favorite part, and that fades fast. The mid reminds me of Marc Jacobs Bang Bang (which added mint and flowers to pepper and incense for a similar effect) or Azzaro Decibel (which smells different, but also operates in this weird “90s mall incense” zone). I do get the apple, as a sourness behind the resin. It gradually gets more and more grey, until it’s a smoky veil on your skin. I don’t know what Zara was going for here, but it’s refreshingly outre for them. An interesting cheapie for incense enjoyers.

This resurrected in an opaque dark grey bottle later on in 2019 and quickly vanished once again. Then Zara released The Perfect Smoking also in 2019 which was an improved version of No Night, very similar and carrying the flesh of CdG Wonderoud (and less of the CdG Incense Series DNA) without the bones. In 2021 Zara released Frayed Edge, again based on the exact same formula changed with slight nuances. Frayed Edge was reminiscent of CdG Wonderwood more with the "apple" note boosted up. The apple note here on Fragrantica shows a green apple photo but in all of the aforementioned fragrances it's actually the red apple note, sweet and fruity with zero sour facets. With that said, No Night is the lightest and most transparent woody fragrance similar to the effect of Iso E Super and Cashmeran accord topped with sweet red apple peppery note (could be an alpha-Damascone-ish ingredient). I honestly cannot smell any lavender here, could be just linalyl acetate/linalool bits if any posed as lavender by marketing folk. Sandalwood is also nowhere to found to my nose and I know most sandalwood ingredients are quite tricky to pick up especially when dosed or combined (with other ingredients) badly.

Back in Zara online store in May 2020. Different bottle than before, same shape and similar color as the w/end series. I think it costs less now than it did before. (No Day is also back but not the double pack of both btw.)
