Ocean Electric

"I'll be back " said Ocean Electric, just under a new name : Vibrant Leather Mood Zara brought this formula back, but now it's bottled in Vibrant Leather Mood. When I sprayed this one on, it immediately reminded me of Ocean Electric but a bit different. The only difference is the sprayer, which gives a more diffused dispersion of the perfume but it's exactly the same one. Zara often does this, as changing the way the perfume is diffused in the air and on the skin changes the scent experience in the beginning, but that's just it. The formula is the same. This said, I'm happy people are going to experience this perfume as it is a really nice one and was the one that stood out the most of this Ocean collection. 15/04: EDIT Yup, as written here above, it's the same perfume. I just exchanged the sprayers on the 2 bottles and indeed, it's EXACTLY the same perfume.

I have it, love it and it is quite an unique smelling perfume that Zara brought out, it's so fresh and long lasting and an exhilarating scent. The opening is so zesty and a bit spicy. ( chili is stated on the Zara website ) followed with a sweet aroma of I suppose saffron, but there is something else in the mix that I can't quite declare. It did not stay long on the shelves and was on sale during these summer sales, but I do hope they will bring it back, maybe under an other name, as Zara often does .

This was love at first smell for me, no weird opening and the sillage is pretty good for me. I still get whiffs of it about 7-8 hours later. I could wear this for summer, but with really hot temperatures I would maybe prefer something less fresh spicy and more sweet/fresh. I don't really see how this is listed as a unisex fragrance, because it smells very masculine. Picked this up for €13.-,

Opening and early dry down: On first contact it seemed mostly peppery-incense and I sensed echoes of Loewe 7. Ocean Electric, however, in my opinion, is mainly algae-like, at times basement and damp soil-like(patchouli and vetiver). In the opening and early dry down, Zara is deeper, more interesting, more niche and less sweet than Kenzo EDT Intense. If Ocean Electric were once released as a shower gel, it would have smelled like Kenzo (it's interesting, as it’s usually opposite with Zara’s fragrances). Getting to the point: I would describe Ocean Electric as smelling like a wooden box filled with nutmeg(!), pepper and other spices (for oriental dinner/barbecue), sunken somewhere among the algae at the bottom of the sea. This is how a hypothetical Loewe 7 “Woody Deep Sea” flanker could smell like. Late dry down: After a couple of hours, as the spiciness clearly faded, I started noticing, that the woody-marine character in this fragrance is definitely the work of a base grounded on Kenzo EDT Intense DNA. At this stage these perfumes are really similar. I guess it's because of the ISO E Super(or other woody molecule)-heavy base combined with clearly noticeable dose of vetiver and with some other ingredients. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be created by someone from Givaudan. Overall: 8,75/10. Like-love. Why not a clear “love”? I’m afraid this perfume would sometimes make me nauseous. Either way, it's a great, still unique, pepper-algae fragrance, with a niche character, being a marriage of Loewe 7 and Kenzo EDT Intense. One of Zara's best releases in recent times. Performance is exceptionally good (for Zara) – on me Ocean Electric lasts for over 7h. Projection is a little above average too. Update-note1: To be fair it's not clearly "algae" or "marine", but some ingredients of this perfume give me such impression. I guess the smell of "wet wooden box" (probably woody molecule mixed with earthy vetiver) gives me an image of algae-like note. Update-note2: It smells almost 1:1 like Afnan Tribute Blue, which is known as a good clone of old Loewe 7 (the bottle with big "7").

Ocean Electric from Zara certainly owes a good deal to Loewe 7. What I enjoy with this Zara fragrance is that it finds itself pretty much right after spraying, in the early dry down. Peppery and earthy, there is a marine/metallic quality that comes out of its combination of ingredients, but doesn’t overpower the blend. Longevity was surprisingly long and I still smelled remnants the next morning before my shower.
