Leathery With A Salty Taste Salty Ocean Bouquet ... What would you expect from a perfume bearing this name? The name might suggest a marine, an aquatic, or even seaweed-based essence. Instead, the orange blossom is peppery and leathered with a pinch of salt. Fabulous! First, this year, ZARA continued the collaboration with Joe Malone and launched a new Ocean collection with three Eau de perfumes perfect for the cruel summer of '22. The three fragrances have citrus fruits and flowers as a common theme, each adding a personal touch with a particular accord. I tried them all, and even before knowing the notes, this struck me the most, followed by "Zara Ocean No4 - Saffron Orange Flowers | Zara" and "Zara Ocean No3 - Caviar Bergamot | Zara", respectively. According to the ZARA website, Salty Ocean Bouquet is fragrant with fresh and relaxing notes of bergamot and black pepper wrapped in wood and orange blossom. Um... are we really sure? To my nose, the essence is leathery, rich in spicy, bitter, and salty nuances. Between the opening notes, I immediately perceive a slightly leathery scent, and I am not referring to soft suede but a beautiful Florentine leather. Perhaps the leathery accord is hidden in the formula, or maybe it is simply the result of the bitter undertones of orange blossom spiced with a good dose of phenolic black pepper. I struggle to recognize the citrus notes of bergamot. It's subdued, and the opening is fresh, dark, and anything but citrusy on my skin. It is precisely this detail that pushes me to prefer this cologne over "Zara Ocean No3 - Caviar Bergamot | Zara", which is more hesperidic. Still, I love it and will undoubtedly add it to my private collection. I let the minutes go by slowly, and the scents unfold and adapt to my skin's chemistry. The leathery nuance is always present, even if it moves to the background to make room for the bittersweet notes of orange blossoms. I can say that Salty Ocean Bouquet centers on this white flower's notes. I also seem to perceive the sweeter notes of the orchid or of another flower with honeyed nuances, which adds a floral tinge to the heart. And then comes the ultimate act. The perfume does not lose the leathery nuance that accompanies it throughout its life cycle but wraps itself on a musky base with a touch of oak moss. The woody side mentioned by ZARA should include dried cedar as I get a hint of shavings and probably some earthy green vetiver which keeps the scent fresh. I don't believe there is blonde sandalwood as I don't feel any creaminess on the base. And then there is the salty aspect. It's not that smell of seawater or algae, but something closer to ambergris, that slightly salty touch that only this substance can offer. Those who read me might think that I am a ZARA sponsor or affiliate, but this is not the case. Personally, I find the fragrances of this premium line designed and created together with Jo Malone to be noteworthy. Indeed they have a uniqueness and a thickness that we do not find in the other cheaper range. And certainly, the value for money is unmatched for around € 25 or less for a 90ml size. I confirm its use during hot days or evenings, during late spring, and throughout the summer season. It projects pretty loud the first hour, a compliment getter! To my taste, this and "Zara Ocean No4 - Saffron Orange Flowers | Zara" have a more masculine edge, while "Zara Ocean No3 - Caviar Bergamot | Zara" is genderless. Well, I can't wait to buy the other two before ZARA decides to withdraw them from the market. Instead, I would be curious to know if anyone else recognizes a leathery facet in this fragrance or if it is just a figment of my imagination! I base the review on a 90ml bottle I have owned since July 2022.

Another great perfume by Zara and Jo Malone. ❤️ I’m so happy that Zara brought it back, as I didn’t have a chance to try it when it first came out and was really curious about it. It did not disappoint. It’s a very nice, fresh, sophisticated, and delicious scent. 😋 On me, it starts very green 🍃 💦and at first is somewhat similar to the Water Lily Tea Dress, but not the same. Then it transitions into an aquatic and more intense water lily scent, somewhat similar to Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (very green, fresh, and more aquatic). Not a dupe, but it has a similar vibe. Finally, it settles into a sweeter but refined scent reminiscent of the Issey Miyake perfumes, with its sweetness bringing it close to the Pure line (the one with pear 🍐 notes). Overall, it is a quietly sophisticated scent and not a duplicate, but rather a masterpiece with its own charm. I would classify it as a unisex, modern-day perfume designed for the city environment. Its middle phase is definitely more masculine in nature, but later sweet notes make it more suitable for a female audience. Overall, it’s too complex to call it male or female oriented. It’s something one can wear from early morning into the evening without feeling out of place. The scent is strong but just the right amount. As It doesn’t disappear too quickly but also doesn’t give people around you a headache. Even a day later, it can still be smelled on my skin. On Zara & Jo Malone range in general: I absolutely love the Zara and Jo Malone range, as it’s perfect in terms of scent sophistication and longevity, presentation, and price. It gives you the opportunity to own more scents and vary them to match your mood, as well as mix them to create your own unique style, rather than debating for a while whether a niche perfume is worth it. With so many niche perfumes being too hard to test, too intense (Arab intensity), and so pricey (thanks to Klarna making them accessible to the masses and brands hiking prices to make them less mass-market, which would damage the brand), the Zara and Jo Malone collection hits just the right spot for me. Though I wish they produced these scents in 30ml and 10ml bottles too—it would be easier to carry them around without needing to use a travel atomizer. And hand sanitizer would be also so good. 😊 With such amazing scent it makes perfect fit even in the post pandemic world. I am also a big fan of Elegantly Tokyo, Energetically New York, and Water Lily Tea Dress scents the most. I love the orange juice scents from Zara and Jo Malone too, like Amalfi and Fleur d’Oranger. I just can’t get enough of them. It’s become almost an obsession to catch them all like Pokémon. But only after testing, as even a fan like me wouldn’t like every single scent, as collections tend to be quite diverse.

This is the hidden gem of the Jo Malone collaboration. If you only buy one fragrance from this collection, make it this one. The Opening: Sharp, invigorating, and instantly addictive. Black pepper hits you first, not overwhelming, but present enough to wake up your senses. The bergamot adds a fresh, slightly tart brightness that cuts through the pepper beautifully. It's bracing, sophisticated, and smells far more expensive than it has any right to. The Heart: The magic happens here. Sea salt and sea notes create an authentic marine character. Make no mistake. it's not the cheap, synthetic "aquatic" of designer mediocrity, but a windswept, coastal freshness that feels real. The orange blossom adds a subtle floral sweetness that prevents the salt from becoming too sharp or one-dimensional. It's the heart of a fragrance that captures a cool, grey beach day with remarkable precision. The Drydown: The woody base anchors everything perfectly. Clean, refined, and warm. It provides the structure that keeps this fragrance from floating away into nothingness. It's the kind of base that makes you keep sniffing your wrist hours after application. Performance: This is where Salty Ocean Bouquet truly delivers. Expect over 8 hours of longevity with moderate to strong sillage. It projects well for the first 3-4 hours, then settles into a pleasant skin scent that lingers. On clothes, it lasts for days. One of the best performers in the collection, period. Would I buy it again? You bet! this is a staple Why It's Unisex: Ignore the Fragrantica rating. This is a textbook example of a fragrance that transcends gender. The black pepper and woods lean masculine, the orange blossom and sea notes lean feminine, and together they create something that works on anyone. Men, women, and everyone in between can wear this with confidence. Versatility: This is a spring and summer staple, but it works in early autumn too. This is the fragrance people will ask you about. Final Verdict: Salty Ocean Bouquet is a masterpiece at a drugstore price. The opening is sharp and addictive, the heart is a beautifully rendered marine accord, and the drydown is warm and woody. It performs admirably, defies gendered marketing, and smells like it costs ten times its actual price. Do yourself a favor and buy it before Zara discontinues it.

Definitely a good buy! My wife and I really like this one. It's unisex and slightly leaning to male. This has been really a treat. We smelled this and instantly reminded me of Issey Miyake Pour Femme but less floral and with aquatic notes. A perfect unisex fragrance for me and my wife since she often uses some of my perfumes. So we sprayed some on my wife's wrist and didn't pull the trigger on buying it instantly to give it some time to dry down. We didn't want another impulse buy that we'd regret haha! We took a stroll in the mall for about an hour and ate dinner to check if we liked the dry down and if it's a good match for our body chemistry. We were laughing because we were smelling whiffs of it when we're walking and smelling it from her wrist from time to time. Ended up buying it before we went home and used it the next day. Did not regret it ever since. This is one of my longest lasting perfumes not to mention it's floral/aquatic. Easily lasted me the whole day on my skin and my wife can still smell me after I got home. I can still smell it on my clothes after 2 days and more when we were sorting our laundry. Definitely a keeper.

I tried the ocean line a few days ago and eventually ended up picking this one up out of the three. It's strange they're labelled No. 1, 3 and 4 - did they have to scrap No. 2? Anyway, this one is the most aquatic out of the ocean line up. It is true to the note breakdown above. It starts off with a very satisfying citrus opening and then becomes quite woody and salty. The black pepper isn't too prominent - I can only pick it up if i smell it up close. Quite smooth overall and i was really impressed by the quality. It absolutely leans masucline, which is why I chose this over the other two. It is definitely comparable to other masculine aquatic scents like Aqua di gio, bulgari aqua atlantique etc. so this might be an interesting addition if you're in to this scent profile. For the price, it doesn't lack quality either which is great. I'm unsure about longevity but for now, I know I could smell it on a test strip a day and a half later. I wore it out and could get wafts of it 3 hours later in the wind so I dont have a problem with it.
