Vanilla Violet Orchid

Soft powdery vanilla that leans massively on almonds, with an heart of flowers, an undertone of heliotrope and a woody delicate dry down. It doesn't smell synthetic, and it is very balanced so perfect for layering. It is now on sale for the price of 8,95€. The vanilla is not the edible, cheep kind, there seems to be no ethil maltol ruining the mood and it smells quite woody, I was fearfull this would be just a very cheap overly sugary vanilla instaed it is soft, powdery and quite refined. It has only a light syrupy facet because at some point the almonds in it take a bit of a boozy turn, but luckly it is not the aspect that prevails and it is almost unnoticeable. The beauty of this fragrance is that the flowers in the middle shine! In particular there is an orchid note that I find sweet and sugary (similar in style to that of Velevt Orchid from Tom Ford, but that is their only similarity) and some mixed florals that I belive may be cherry blossoms and almond blossom mixed, with probably something yellow too. The sweet note in the opening is very similar to marzipan and only lightly sugary, with a nutty and dry fruits undertone, while the dry down is all vanilla and creamy woods, with just a bit of musk. Performance are similar to Zara Chapter line, it lasted on me for about seven hours and projected moderately so I was pleasantly surprised. It is not overly synthetic, the opening is not pure alchool and it is well balanced so it should be perfect for layering. I think the mood of the scent is quite bon ton, and it has that lovely doll head effect which I am always searching for and raving about! It is cosy and warm and it even smells clean in a way to me since it doesn't have that thick and sticky effect that many vanilla/almond/heliotrope combo seem to have on my skin lately. About the comparison with Orchidee Vanille by VC&A, I only used a sample of that and it was almost a year ago, but from what I remember that one was more chocolaty and had a more intresting opening. The floral heart is very similar though as is the style of the vanilla. This recalls very strongly Amour by Kenzo but not just because of the almonds, vanilla and the powdery character, the florals in it are similar as well; it has a bit of the play doh, almondy character present in Hypnotic Poison by Dior both edt and edp, but it has a bit of complexity too since the almond is sweet but also more bitter and pungent in some moments, there is even just a shadow of that peculiar, almost licorice and caraway quality that the various Hypnotic Poison have; then we have the same delicate powder and woods of Satine by Lalique and Zara's own Femme, and even the creamy woody aspects of Zara Nuit (first and second edition) which had palisander rosewood in it as did Hipnotic Poison edt, Nuit also remainds of gorgeous scent such as Simply Jil Sander Poudree or Manifesto by Ysl. Personally I find Oro by Oficine Cleman more similar to Confetto from Profvmvm Roma. The almond is similar to that of Mandorla by L'Erbolario (more to the floral old version) or even Heliotrope by Etrò. I could name a 100 more but I shall stop here, more or less with the ones alredy in the *remainds me of* section. Those are all fragrance that I had at some point or that I tried different times since one time this was my favorite genre, some of them are still between my favorites, so maybe Vanilla Violet Orchid was meant to be a like for me! What I enjoy the most about it is that the florals are not suffocated by the almonds and the vanilla, on the packaging there is written that the scent is all about "the purple vanilla orchid" that should be "diffusive and warm with a sweet floracy, known as the dancing lady in the nature", so I am pleased this floral dimension is actually here. Besides, I like that the almonds are balanced between sweet and bitter and that the scent is not cloying or too much sweet. I recently bought a decant of Rouge Smoking by BDK and found it too cloying, that almondy heliotrope too strong and sweet to the point of smelling synthetic so I was afraid to buy this one. The price helped in my choice quite a lot, I paid 12,00€ instead of 18,00€, but it is now on sale for only 8,95€ if you are intrested, Zara put the whole Orchid Collection on sale, maybe it is still in store.

I have to repost myself because I still haven't found this scent in another perfume. I'm really disappointed because I've smelled an incredible amount of fragrances in recent years and haven't found anything like this Zara perfume. I would be extremely grateful if you/someone could help me. Bought this for my wife because her favourite perfume is Orchidee Vanille, by Van Cleef and Arpels. She was hoping that this fragrance would smell similar. In her estimation, it is not really close enough to Orchidee Vanille. It does not have the bright mandarin opening and there is no chocolate note in the Zara perfume. So while they feel somewhat distantly related in the type of soft, powdery vanilla and the delicate, subtle, floral orchid note, she feels that they are not close enough to consider Vanilla Violet Orchid a dupe or clone. The wonderful discovery for her though, was that this Zara fragrance sits much closer in scent profile to her other great love. A fragrance that she only has a tiny sample of, due to its extortionate price tag. That perfume is, Creed's Sublime Vanille. Vanilla Violet Orchid and Sublime Vanille are far closer together, particularly in the mid to dry down stages. The vanilla and orchid notes are extremely similar and really the main and only difference (to her nose) is the realistic, bright, fresh burst of lemon juice that you get with Creed's Sublime Vanille is not present in Vanilla Violet Orchid. This is actually not much of an issue though, as that lemon opening disappears rather quickly in Sublime Vanille and the scent that remains once that citrus phase has faded, is incredibly similar to the Zara fragrance. So, she is absolutely delighted with that lovely surprise. Sillage and longevity are both very good for her with this perfume. Two or three sprays last on clothes the whole day and on skin a good four to five hours. It can be smelled in the air around her for at least two to three hours. This is a fantastic bargain, and a really sensational (her word for it) offering from Zara. Absolutely re-purchase worthy.

This was a blind buy, and I actually love it! I don't get violet or orchid, but it IS a vanilla-forward fragrance. I would actually say it's a gourmand. Smells like marzipan, or almond cookies. Also smells similar (at least in my memory) to yellow Fun from Lush. I've seen some reviews that say the vanilla in this smells like play-doh, and I can see where they're coming from, but there's something about this that works really well on my skin. Projection stays close to the skin, so I overspray and it lasts several hours on me. It's a warm scent and quite cozy, but but is still lovely in the spring. UPDATE 3/21/24: I recently got a sample of BDK Velvet Tonka. It's EXTREMELY similar to Vanilla Violet Orchid. So similar that I'm thinking there's a good chance that Velvet Tonka is what Zara was duping with this one, since most of their fragrances are intentionally designer and niche dupes.

beautiful. vanilla, marzipan, violets, all with a delicate powdery almond drydown. when i sprayed in the nozzle in the shop i immediately smelt the sweet marzipan which made me interested to try spraying it on myself, when i did i was worried because it smelt very alcoholy. but don’t be put off! once i was done shopping in zara i immediately went back to the perfume counter and bought it as the alcohol smell subsided and revealed the true scent of this beauty. i use only 1 spray on my wrist and then dab it onto my other wrist and then dab any remaining residue on my neck, which i find to be a perfect amount as this perfume is very strong, and i can still smell it when i go to bed after a long day. it is suitable for an event and smells sophisticated but also youthful and fresh, and is also suitable for everyday wear, although i wouldnt wear it on a very hot day

One of the best fragrances from Zara, a powdery vanilla with a woodier drydown that never gets overbearing. It's my comfort scent in winter, feels extremely cozy and reassuring. It's subtle yet persistent enough, but I don't overspray it to preserve it, as it's an unfortunately discontinued limited edition.

Another successful Zara blind buy! I'm on my 3rd bottle already! Licorice-y/marzipan-y, powdery, vanillary, sweet! One downside is that it does not last long on me, maybe 1 hour if I overspray and it doesn't project well.. Looking for what to pair it with to bring it out more.

Very similar to Kinzo Amour, the first time I buy a Zara perfume that lasts for more than an hour!

This review will be quit messy and with grammar mistakes (english is not my first language). It starts off very ALMONDY and it stays for the whole time, maybe after 5h it turns a lot more vanillish. I can't understand why there isn't an almond note, but there is sweet note which doesn't appear for me. It has those FLORAL and WOOD notes. The wood turns this perfume into a cozy scent, I wouldn't wear it in summer. The VANILLA is always there, but not in annoying way. For me this perfume is not a gourmand. This can be perfect day Fragrance. I dont know any other perfume which is close to this one. NOT A SAFE BLIND BUY, unless you really love classy almond.

On me, this scent smells just like marzipan. It has that sweet, kind of almondy type scent, although I don’t see almonds listed in the notes. It’s not too strong, projection is modest and longevity is about average for a zara fragrance. After a couple of hours it’s mostly a skin scent. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either. It’s not something I would repurchase but I might like it more if it was layered with something else to give it a bit more depth and a bit less marzipan!

In the vain of Bois Dore by VC&A. Or some phase of Tonka Millesime...(it’s Shalimaresque), but also has some Cuir Beluga vibes and smoother Myrrh & Tonka...Boucheron Feve Tonka de Canaima , BDK Tonka, L’Erbolario Mandorla etc ... that kind of sweetness. I haven’t compared it side by side yet, with any of those which I just get from the top of my head, but I’m already considering a backup bottle for what it is and the price point, in expectation to quickly put a serious dent on it. There’s soft woods, honeyed tonka, savory slightly smoky almond, lots of sweeter marzipan, sheer heliotrope/violet and musk. I can’t tell for sure if there’s some sort of tobacco or soft patchouli note in there, but definitely would work well with the type of woodsy musky patchouli I can smell in Kilian’s White Crystal Straight to Heaven and AP Indigo Tanzanite for example. I also want to see how it goes with Tonka Imperiale - for the price, I’m more than pleased, again! EDIT: Indigo tanzanite appeals to you and you are looking for a less masculine interpretation of it - layer this one with just a dash of Merchant of a Venice Patchouli 🥰

A soft violet bedtime cuddle, edging on powdery but not going over enough to bother me, a professed powder-hater. It lasts all night at a gentle whisper. I didn't think I'd like this so much, but it's a lovely vanilla floral combination where nothing clashes, nothing stands out and jars, just a gentle, fuzzy blanket floral of a scent. Not that it's warm, but that it's like a hug. Nice, and pretty darn inexpensive too.

Don’t buy this thinking you’re going to get a hypnotic poison dupe. They smell completely different. This is soft, HP is loud and sweet and their opening and dry down don’t have much similarities. This smells more like Zara’s weekly mood collection, Friday, Freaking Gorgeous.
