WO/01 Somewoody

SOMEWOODY or VERYWOODY ? This is a truly sumptuous fragrance! Zara is not usually associated with heavy fragrances or high prices. But every now and again, we may be surprised by this designer with an extra-concentrated blend of essential oils and bold olfactory notes. With WO/Somewoody, Zara has undoubtedly challenged more expensive brands. My first sensation was of a non-sticky sweetness that had been blended to produce a delightfully pleasant and enticing oriental perfume. I would briefly describe the fragrance pyramid as starting with notes of lavender, cinnamon, rose water, nutmeg and allspice. The resulting aroma is a sweet, slightly fruity, spicy, woody and aromatic blend. Yes, there’s a spicy, powdery and slightly sweet touch from cinnamon, but mostly I detect aromatic lavender alongside a fleeting apple note. The lavender note is herbaceous and natural. It blends gracefully with the spicy cinnamon. The scent is fresh and uplifting initially. However, don’t be fooled by this initial freshness, as it will soon become floral, musky and woody. The heart phase features notes of rosewood, cedarwood, palisander and sandalwood. It's all about musk and powdery flowers. To my nose, the scent appears now as a heavy musky cologne. It has both animal and clean musk. There is also a fine rosy, dusty dew. The powdery part must come from a hint of iris, orris, or violet leaf. This must be secretly mixed into the blending. The presence of a floral and powdery musk accord is notable here, accompanied by dry woods and salty amber, contributing to its distinct character. The base is woody, balsamic, and subtly creamy with notes of amber, benzoin, vanilla, musk, oud, and a hint of tobacco. The oud note is barely noticeable and would not lead anyone to believe that it originates from the Middle East. The same applies to the vanilla note. Rather than standing out as a gourmet flavour, it is more of a supporting powder. As far as the amber is concerned, I think it smells more like cedar with its characteristic pencil shavings nuances than it does the opulent resins used by the good quality ambery essences. However, the overall effect is very pleasant. Such a rich assortment of notes from a Zara perfume is a new experience for me. THE INSPIRATION When it comes to producing reasonably priced, small-scale copies of popular products, Zara is really good. This scent starts in a very similar way of Alexandria 2. When I first tried it, I was blown away by the similarity, even though I had been informed of the resemblance beforehand. My first thought was that it would be amazing if it lasted another four or five hours. And it did, it really did! Of course, the Zara scent lacks the depth, complexity and incredible sillage of the original. But paying less than 5% of the price of the Xerjoff creation will certainly allow any discerning perfume consumer to make some forgiving concessions. As far as I am concerned, this perfume far exceeded my expectations. MY OPINION: You'd better make a quick decision and take the blind plunge. The sooner you decide, the better, because Zara stock doesn't last long. Somewoody To Love What a bizarre name, Somewoody, something between some woody and somebody. When I tried the new WOODS collection dedicated to woods, of course, I never expected to find the amber and musky accords that I will describe to you shortly. Unlike WO/02 Wood Street, pompous with peppery wood, or WO/03 Café Et Cèdre, rich in powdery wood. I admit, WO/01 Somewoody surprised me because I was expecting something very woody, and varied, with floral and vanilla touches. On the packaging, ZARA emphasizes the notes of lavender, cedar wood and dry amber. And yet behind this perfume lies something tender and magnetic. Somewoody comes out with a sweet, slightly fruity, spicy, woody and aromatic accord. Yes, there’s a spicy, powdery, and slightly sweet touch from the cinnamon, but mostly I get the aromatic lavender along with a sort of ephemeral apple crunch. Lavender flavouring is not the chemical aroma we find in fabric softener or laundry soap but is more herbaceous and natural and blends gracefully with the spicy cinnamon. It’s fresh and uplifting in the initial phase, but don’t let the fresh entry fool you as it becomes floral, musky and woody. Moving forward, the heart reveals a plethora of musky and powdery flowers, and the white flowers mentioned have too much in common with the lily of the valley. To my nose, Somewoody appears as a heavy, really heavy musky cologne, with animal and laundry musk, and a fine rosy, dusty dew. For me, even though lavender is listed as the top note, I can smell it in the background throughout the entire wearing experience. And powdery, as if a hint of iris, orris, or violet leaf was secretly mixed into the formula. Floral, powdery musk is a well-known accord available in many fragrances; here however it is accompanied by dry woods and salty amber which make it a little special. It reminds me of some other musky and floral scents in my collection, but they escape me at the moment. The oud is tame, almost non-existent, not animalistic or barnyard, and nothing that leads to the lands of the Middle East. I’m used to the smoky, medicinal oud I can get from the ZARA Oud series, for example, and there’s no clear hint of that here. The same goes for vanilla, more of a powdery support than a notable gourmand note. I think there’s more on the cedar side, with its characteristic pencil shavings nuance than the opulent, medicinal oud resin. Musky and musty, like the scent of a musty old paper book. The base is centred on amber, earthy, musky and powdery woody nuances. I can mostly pick up the salty ambroxan and clean white musk. Somewoody is easy to wear, can be used both day and night and works best in autumn, winter and spring. The fragrance stays for quite some time and projects moderately. Surprisingly, thanks to ambroxan, the perfume lasts longer and stains clothes. The next day, it was still on the cuff of my jacket. Suitable for both men and women. I find it quite intimate, and also pleasant to wear at home, for the office. It’s not so overbearing and annoying. I'm basing my opinion on a test I did on the paper strip and my skin in December 2023.

Wearing it side by side with Alexandria II, just for the funsies. They have their similarities for sure. The opening to Alexandria II is more complex, and more woody than in Zara's version, which seems to go to the mid-creaminess of Alexandria with little hesitation. Those mid parts are very close, almost indistinguishable - Alexandria is a bit denser, richer, and feels oilier if that makes sense, but, and it's a big but, not to the extent that the price difference would suggest. Smelling one then immediately the other they do overlap sometimes, and sometimes I get minor differences. Few days ago I wore Somewoody and it wears beautifully, I kept getting whiffs of it loooong into the wearing, and could easily smell it the next day on my arms without burying my nose into them - easier than a lot of designers etc I own - not to mention the clothes that still smelled strongly of it, so in terms of performance I feel like this is a great performer, and in terms of Zara's performance, this might just be their strongest perfume I tried.

I get sweetness from vanilla at the first whiff. Lavender, cinnamon, cedar and musk accords are working together to make "baby powder"-esque smell. I haven't smelled Alexandria II by Xerjoff, nor Ormonde Jayne, but I am quite familiar with other "smell alikes" listed. This is way sweeter than Le Male, and with Le Male I imagine older crowds, and with more aromatic lavender forward. For Armani Code (I have one from 2007), I get more leather with that with powderiness from Tonka beans. I usually don't get good performance in general with fragrances but Zara's been hitting home-runs recently.

At first I thought that this is just another generic, Iris based Zara fragrance. But, as it dryed down, it become a fantastic fragrance. I couldn't help but smell my wrist because the drydown is mesmerizing.I never smelled Alexandria II by Xerjoff, but this is really nice. For the price, it's a no brainer, I think I'm going to back and buy a bottle of this. Performance is average, on the other hand though, I could smell it 7-8 hours after only one spray on my wrist. So perhaps, the longevity is really good but it's not a big projector.

Amazing smell, very decent clone of : Xerjoff - Alexandria 2 and one of the best bang for your buck scent. The opening is somewhat powdery, musky and vanillic but dries down to a : lavender, woody, ambery scent - I would say this is a lighter version of Alexandria 2. Very very good and 85% close to Alexandria with some differences, normal thing if you consider that Somewoody is 30times cheaper than Alexandria 2...Highly recommend if you like Alexandria 2. Get this before it get axed by Zara like we are used to see very very frequently.

Very addictive smell, yes it has Alexandria 2 similarities, totaly unisex and better performs on cold weather. I have new batch, Zara sells it together with Cafe at cedre, 25 eur for both, 100ml bottles, great value. Its really sophisticated smell for a Zara perfume. If you dont tell that its Zara perfume i think nobody will say at first. I think its very good everyday scent. Update: needs to be macerated, after almost 2 months, its stronger and more intensive smell, more mature, lovely and i think its perfectly unisex. Great value.

I think I might be in love ... This is so good. I just purchased Musk from Bath and Body Works. This is a stronger version of that body spray. Initially I wasn't crazy about the opening but the mid and the dry down is where the magic happens. After picking it up in store, I came home and reordered my backups. This wood collection is going to be amazing in the Fall. My only regret is not purchasing this collection sooner. Now I want wo/02. Wo/1 for 12.99 USD, treat yourself. You won't regret it.🔥

Stunning fragrance almost spiritual with an incense vibe. It’s what Avestan Perfume by Estèe Lauder Companies hopes to be. It’s creamy smooth and woody with a Smokey opening that mellows to something out of a dusty old church on a deserted hill in Morocco. Smells extremely niche and expensive for the price. I would consider buying a few bottles in fear of discontinuation it’s that good. Probably not for everyone. Definitely more for the refined nose and tastes.

It's crazy how similar this is to Alexandria II. Fantastic quality, definitely doesn't have the longevity or protection of A2, but the scent is extremely close! I can't believe I only paid $35 for this! This is an "airier" version of A2, so it's more Spring weather friendly. Zara knocked it out to the park on this one. Lattafa and Fragrance World should take some notes: no synthetic weirdness, great right from the box, very compete composition. I love this!

A year ago I tried Alexandria ll by Xerjoff, I liked it so much, but the price was super expensive (around €500) So I forgot about it, and after a while I was shopping in Zara and I tried this, I got the exact same smell... I bought it immediately. Smell 10/10 (identical to Alexandria ll) Longevity 7.5/10 (around 7-12 hours) Sillage 7/10 (not too strong for me) Price 100/10

its big surprise for me, its like Alexandria II, no need to buy it for horrible price, buy this zara instead, its like same scent profile, love the price point, and 100ml for ridiculious price, blind buy safe, if you not like it, just give it to someone like present, its cheap and u will not be sad no big projection but it has prette longevity for 15€ parfume

This fragrance is intoxicating to my nose. I absolutely love it. Smells almost kind of like Molecule 01, since that fragrance has a pencil shaving like scent off my skin. This is like that plus TF Oud Wood. So overall very woody like the name implies. I haven’t smelled Alexandria II, but if it smells like this I may have to get the original.

Excellent clone of Alexandria II, gets very close to the scent. All I'm missing is the oud and performance of the original. Eventually it would be worth to get the original if you're a fan of the fragrance, but for those who rightly do not want to spend 500$ on a single fragrance this is a solid alternative.

This stuff is too good. Just got a bottle in and I'm buying a backup already. I'm calling it now; this will be one of their top-tier scents. Wood blast with a whisper of cinnamon, musk, and florals. It has some Wood Infusion vibes, but not super close. Get this and be happy.

Cinnamon and lavender on a base of synthetic amberwoods. Quite a bit of vanillic sweetness as well. Nothing groundbreaking but quite pleasant and at this price point, it's probably the cheapest perfume of this kind that you can get.

The smell is spot on compared to Alexandria ll. The projection and sillage are dialed back a bit. The longevity is decent.

Today arrives Somebody, Bottle is really nice, rounded and feel robust, wood cap is also beautiful made, but atomizer, yes, the atomizer again, is not great. At first impression, you can almost immediately detect the same DNA profile of Alexandria II, no synthetic smell at all, longevity is very good, and on skin is first hour with very good projection, and if you spray on clothes, it will remain almost 24 hours or longer. For me, it’s more suitable for colder month. This perfume contain a special oriental DNA, more specific, from Thailand, almost same scent like uncooked Thai Jasmin Rice. It’s not a mass pleaser. And, yes, it’s close to Alexandria II, it’s very very close to Alexandria II, I think most people won’t even to smell the difference between Somewoody and Alexandria II, Of course Alexandria II is more intense, more deeper, more potent, but also much more expensive, but Somewoody is not far from his model. I’m speechless when I smell the first spray, I can hardly believe that Zara can reassembled the DNA of such Niche perfume with almost 95% accuracy, I am really really impressed. If you like Alexandria II DNA, you should buy it, and you can better buy it now, because he will disappear soon, like all other Zara niche perfume clones. Zara has proven again this time how good they are at making the excellent perfume!

Ha—this one instantly reminded me of something nearly every Chinese person knows well: mosquito repellent vapor pads. That smooth, clean opening is incredibly familiar. But then, a spicy note creeps in—something that brought to mind a crude dupe of Le Male I once had from Cuba. It’s not the smooth, creamy spice of the original Le Male, so I get why its “reminds me of” score is low here. Still, if you’ve smelled both, you’ll probably agree there’s a Le Male vibe lingering underneath. Now, full disclosure: I’ve never actually smelled Alexandria II. But if A2 really smells like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if Le Male was among its inspiration sources. Drydown update: really well done. A smooth lavender note takes center stage, giving it a dreamy, almost sleepy vibe, backed by a touch of musk. Refined, rounded—nice work, Zara. Side note: The cap on Zara’s Ingredient Stories line has changed from the wooden version in its 2023 launch to plastic in this batch. There’s now a ring of engraved text on it too. Cost-cutting move, huh?

Lavender, musk, cinnamon, cedar, ambroxan and a little touch of indolic white flowers (maybe narcissus or jasmine or maybe even honeysuckle). Reminds me (it is a must to say "reminds me" when reviewing a Zara fragrance hahah) of Joop Homme, Creed Original Santal, Mont Blanc Indıvıduel dna in the beginning, it fools you as if its going to be a powerhouse fragrance, bold and sensual but that aura quickly fades and it is now a subtle and beautiful, transparent ambery fougere type scent on my skin. But it is more predominant and lively on fabric. It is delicate and pleasant. Longevity is ok and sillage is a little bit on the weaker side for me. If you refresh it around noon, it will go. Good for the price. Suitable for fall and spring nights.

With all the perfumes Zara push out I believe many go out on a haul, get confused with multiple sprays and then rush to review, more often than not the wrong fragrance. This is far from niche, since it does open like Le Male, or even Versace Dreamer, and dries down a bit like Armani Code. I won't mention Alexandria like many do simply because I have never smelled it, exactly like the majority of people mentioning it. It is nice and would be great for a beginner, for me though is $30 that I could have spent better.

Zara hits the mark again. This is a great Alexandria ii alternative. In fact, I like this just a little more. Perhaps more feminine than I anticipated, but I quite like it. It is different, classy, and complex. I got mine from Mercari, since it is no longer in stock, and it is a shame that I may not come across it so easily in the future. It really has good performance and I love catching whiffs throughout the day! If you can find it, and you want a great Aii replacement, try this one out!

I completely love Alexandria ll scent profile and i have to say... I'm speechless. This is amazing! An incredible dupe of xerjoff's creation. Will buy a backup bottle certainly. Edit: Bought a bottle yesterday, and in 2 hours, I don't smell a thing... It stays mildly on skin. The tester from store was more potent... Maybe it needs a little maturation.

I bought this when it first came out. Yes, it does kinda smell like Alexandria II, but a lighter version of it, lighter as in the way it smells and the aura it gives off, because performance wise my bottle isn't half bad, lasts a good 4-5 hours. It was a solid buy back then, maybe now it's got watered down, since Zara does that very often.

Bought this as a dupe for Alexandria II, but if I could go back in time I would just get the real Alexandria II. The opening smells the same, but the longevity and projection aren't good enough, and you don't get that wonderful oud/vanilla dry down that you get with Alexandria II. Still a good fragrance considering the price.

Bought this together in a box with Zara Café et Cèdre, cause that was the one I wanted but it was not available by itself. Well, what can I say, as a girl who really can enjoy the smell of “male” labeled woodscents, this is a lovely surprise. 100% unisex!! For me maybe a little too sweet, but I can see me wear this.

This is very close to Hamsat Ghazal, and also, Alexandria ii. Unisex, leaning very slightly to male. (Hamsat Ghazal is sold as a woman's perfume, but the two fragrances are insanely similar. HG is relatively new, and no one seems to have made this connection yet, that's why I thought I'd mention it.)

For those living in the UK, you can still buy this in Zara. If it's not in the shops, then book in online and pick it up in the store. I collected mine this morning. Only cost £18! Well worth it... 👌

I "update" my review by simply saying that this is the only fragrance across the years that garnered positive feedback by every girl I met when I wore it.

Safe, le male and dreamer with hints of one million in the base

Smells like a weaker Lattafa Asad. Well worth the money.

Wonderful opening featuring hints of cinnamon followed by a sharp change into mid-notes of pencil shavings and alcohol and then quickly progressing into our base notes with a pleasant amber, woody scent where it stays. The progression into base notes occur within 2-3 minutes. Sillage is intimate from the start and within half hour the scent is pretty much non-existent. Originally purchased as a dupe for Xerjoffs Alexandria II so the expectations were quite high. Are they similar? Yes, but Alexandria II has none of the bad and all the good things compared to Somewoody with more projection and sillage. Will I be repurchasing Somewoody? No. Do I like it enough to finish the bottle? Yeah, I think I do.

Update MAR 2025: So after the fragrance had time to macerate for 7 months, the BO opening is surprising vanished. Now it smells like an oriental woody scent that’s ultra masculine, almost animalistic. Original review AUG 2024: It is taking me awhile to get used to this. From the initial spray it’s really pungent and almost like an unpleasant ultra manly BO. After about 30 mins it settles down and that BO opening is gone. This is more a winter scent for sure. Scoring this a 3 out of 5 as I simply cannot get over the intense opening odour!

2nd days i tried to wear it but the projection is very worst even overspray to clothes and body. 1st 10 minutes projection only 20 centimeter distance hand or my clothes after that i need to close my nose to the spot i spray to notice the smell. Projection 3/10 Sillage 3/10 Longivity 4/10 Scents 8/10 Not recommended

I've read a lot of positive reviews and ordered it. It smells absolutely disguisting. It really reminds me only one thing - bugsprey. Nothing from the notes mentioned, just a hint of very wrongly smelling synthetic wood. Skin smell after 0.5 hours. Just HORROR. I can't believe that it should smell like this. I would think it was a fake, but no, I ordered it from Zara website. I think I have it defective or spoiled. UPD: out of curiosity I've tried Alexandria II. I'm not much a fan of it, but it is not a bug spray for me like this.

Zara brings out quite some gems but IMO this is not one of them, that, if you are like me and not into the woody-amber mess that the industry in last decade made people believe what smells niche and/or luxury. This has nice woods but more so those strong woody ambers, eventually smelling like countless other dry downs of mostly Middle Eastern so-called niche brands. Montales and Manceras and Terenzis and Xerjoffs and Initios etc. etc. Ah but if it makes you avoid another mess for a 200+ price tag, then go for this one, I can assure you will not trade off much quality or artistry and given the potential light concentration, those strong molecules will work better in terms of not choking you or people around you out.

This definitely shares some DNA with Alexandria II, but i wouldn’t necessarily call it a dupe. Alexandria is more spicy, deeper, heavier, better quality and especially shines in longevity, sillage and projection. This is a lighter, maybe even more summer-y fragrance. The performance is pretty weak sadly. But for the price it’s a no brainer if you want an Alexandria II for staying at home or if you simply want to try something similar for a low cost. I wouldn’t purchase this to wear as a daily fragrance because of the bad performance.

This fragrance is all about light woods, smoothness and measured sweetness. It is in the general direction of Armani Code (a bit of the EdT or even a hint of Profumo), fresh-sweet and generally aimed at wearing during the day. While it's nothing new under the sun this one is actually one of the few new Zara releases I would consider buying because it just smells very pleasant. Haven't smelled Alexandria II so can't compare but I see Le Male in the "smells like" section here and that is way off.

I bought it for myself after i saw the notes i found it interesting, i saw reviews that its unisex but i ended up gave it to my husband. Its sweet but i would not consider it as a unisex perfume. But the longevity... WOW!! I can still smell on him and in the air the end of the day!!Brutal! Why Zara cant make perfumes for women so long lasting as this?? Edit: I had to ask my husband not use it too often or too much sprays. Literally i got a headache the second i smell it. Very very strong.

Notes on the package : Lavender, Cinnamon White flowers, Cedarwood, Musk Dry Amber, Oud, Vanilla Why does fragantica marks the wrong notes so often ! Mine is also only 2 months old so I think it needs some air and macerating to become stronger but I love how it smells all ready. This lasts a long while if you overspray but does not become cloying at all . Edit of 8 feb 2024 : Fragrantica corrected the perfumenotes .

Definitely punches above it's weight class, opens with a strong pencil-shavings-type wood, almost pushing thru to what some might consider body odor, but in a GOOD way. I personally can't stand powder notes, but this gem dries down to a scrumptious powdery scent similar to Versace Eros flame, and with some serious staying power: it's usually still noticeable on my clothes even after going thru the wash.

Opening is a blast of musk with woods and white flowers, very varnish like gives the feeling of the inside of a wood box, similiar to oud wood, going into the mid to the end it starts becoming a super pleasant woody scent where the varnish smell fades and it becomes a very nice musky creamy woods on a background of vanilla and amber, very nice, and yes it goes in the same area as Xerjoff Alexandria II

Thats an amazing dupe of Alexandria II of course the depth and the strength of Alexandria is not to be considered but this Zara fragrance has brought u 95% the experience of Alexandria II for literally pennies as we all know Alexandria II is a quiet an expensive fragrance yet the best creation as fragrance in this world IMO, go for it enjoy this Alexandria II experience for a friction of the price!

There is something both classy and classic about this scent. It is much more complex and well blended than most Zara offerings - especially for one with no named perfumer. The ambers and lavender create a wonderful fougere base, there are some really powdery aspects that are add smooth and creamy aspects. This is Zara aiming high and succeeding.

I just got mine yesterday and the first 2-3 sprays were uninspiring. I could see the bug spray comparison from below. Cut to this morning, after it had some time to breathe and mellow in my cool basement after shipping in the heat, it smells much better. My first thought was it smells like a mix of the molecule scents.
