Hip-Hop

Bought a 10ml decant when it came out and I still don't know why I haven't picked up a full bottle yet. Fruity, boozy, and musky.....with a faint hint of chocolate. This feels like it morphs into something different every time I wear it. This is a big love for me. It's different than anything else I own....but in the best way imaginable. This lifts up my spirit and gives me the utmost confidence....as all of the other Zernell Gillie fragrances do in my collection. If you're looking for something that sets yourself apart from everyone else, this should be on your list to try. If you're looking for attention with your fragrances, this should also be on your list. I will always support Zernell and his creations as they are all home runs IMO. Cheers!!

This is just such a delicious scent. I think I sniff my arm more than with any other scent I have. It is also one of those smells that people come up to you and ask you about. It should be cloying and I think on some people it doesn't work. But I love how it smells on me, there is a roasted nutty/cocoa note that turns slightly salty later. its really rich and luxurious but also versatile; I often wear it to the gym and it makes me feel energized. The bottles for ZG could be a lot better though, I like the design but the sprayer is kinda shit and makes the experience feel cheaper than the quality of the perfume.

When I first started getting into fragrances, I had what I call revolutionary moments. Those were when I smelled something completely new - that blew my mind. Tommy for men was the first one - that was middle school. Then coolwater. A few here and there in college - but nothing special. Right after college is when tom ford released his private collection - oud wood, tobacco vanille, Tuscan leather - those were all revolutions for me. This too is a revolutionary moment for me. They come very few and far between - as I’ve been collecting for over a decade. Simply put - this is on my Mount Rushmore.

Hip-Hop wowed me. Definitely the best of Zernell's collection. Hard to describe because of how much there is going on, but one thing that truly stands out is the deliciously sour black currant. I've never smelled a fruit note like it in a fragrance before... it's so addicting to smell. Definitely a little green-ness, described as cannabis in some reviews but I can't pick it up. A little boozy, so it's just as perfect in the nighttime as it is in the daytime. I can't imagine what went into crafting a scent like this. Pure perfection.

a suave, silky, and effortlessly cool. Opens with jammy black currant, with an almost cannabis esque green touch to it. As someone who typically hates the note, its done incredibly here. There's smoky saffron enveloped in animalic, almost sweaty musks and powdery chocolatey undertones. This is a hard to pin down scent as are all of Zernell Gillie's. It smells like someone, fresh and clean, surrounded by sweaty bodies, buzzed and lively in a club. It's a gorgeous scent through and through

These new pressurized sprayers just made an amazing fragrance that much better of an experience! This is a sweet, ambery, tart fruity (from the black currant) fragrance with just a hint of chocolate in the background! Although it's amber and warm it almost has a freshness to it that is great. If you don't think too hard about it, the mix of amber and black currant gives off a grape type of smell. It's really nice! Great performance!

I usually don’t like this style of fragrance, more into the deep and somber sort but this is a party in a bottle. So well done. I concur with the review below it is a masterpiece in this genre of uplifting, party, heavily social fragrances. Performance is beyond belief without being obnoxious. Just a marvelous piece of work.

Ten's across the board! The fact that this is a first-time perfumer is scary to me as both Hip Hop and Disco are stellar debuts. Don't sleep on either of these. Looking forward to future launches from this house!

This is so good, definitely the best out of zernell's line. And it's truly unisex! The black currant smells like pear to me though

To my nose this is very similar to One Umbrella for Two, but without the starchy rice/sweet bready accord. I much prefer this!

It’s so luxurious and vibrant, rich in both the way it smells and the way it makes me feel. Truly a masterpiece! Bravo!

Really great scent! Please fix the sprayer though..might be the worst sprayer in my 150 bottle collection.

Sexy chocolate dipped strawberry

A really nice vibrant fragrance but I can’t put my finger on it exactly. I get sweet vanilla, a green vegetal stemmy smell, and musky aromachemicals like ambroxan. It hits that “fresh and sweet” pairing that is popular among modern masculine designers pretty hard, but it carries a distinctive sharp-bitter smell with it that you will either love or hate. In the middle drydown I do get a clear medicinal booze note. It reminds me a lot more of the floral bitterness in a gin or vodka than a dark liquor like cognac. In the final drydown I find it almost creamy. Does remind me a bit of Ralph’s Club New York in some stages, though that fragrance is a bit more everyday casual and minty. This feels like more of a statement. I think this is an eccentric spring time fragrance for a date at the park, probably for younger men. If it was hip-hop it would be something modern and upbeat like Playboi Carti. 8.1/10

Intensely plum-y and spicy! This perfume is a little more alcoholic (in the sense of it having that cognac note, not gross perfume alcoholic) than my usual tastes but I love the tangy spiciness and it's really well balanced. This is a nighttime/club smell for me. It's powerful, lasts on clothes for several days, and immediately got compliments :) I might try combining this with something conifer-y for a warm winter holidays scent. This makes me want to try other perfumes (especially disco) from this brand, it definitely delivered on its concept.

I've been obsessed with this scent for months. In the drydown I pick up saffron, ambroxan, cognac and chocolate. It's incredibly well blended. On 4 different occasions while shopping at Scent Bar LA, I've shared with other patrons that this is my current favorite discovery and they've bought Hip-Hop on the spot. It's that good! 6+ hour wear with strong sillage. Lasts months on clothes. Every scent in this house has been a banger for me.

This is terrible, to my ScentSnob nose. Its got synthetics cranking at 11 O'clock levels. Ambroxen, probably Amberwood materials and who knows what else. There are some fragrances with lots of synthetics that I like. Brunello Cucinelli Pour Homme for example. Initio Oud for Greatness is another. But generally I much prefer highly natural fragrances. Hip Hop actually opens quite nicely, despite the synthetics. The sweet, musky woodiness actually smells nice in the opening. But it quickly settles into a screechy synthetic mess witj a "Fresh" accord that is not listed.

Very harsh and synthetic opening, but the dry down is a really nice (fizzy?) chocolate with saffron warmness. I don't think this really represents hip hop all that well, but I do hope to try more from the brand, the synthetic aspect is pushing me away though because my nose hurts so bad oml...

I'm sorry, but this smells like BO to me - like someone who *may* have sprayed on perfume before running a full marathon in the Texas summer while wearing zero deodorant. I'm not sure how this fragrance has such a high rating. It is not a safe blind buy, and I made the mistake of getting it as part of my 3-pack travel set off of the Zernell Gillie website. This scent is shockingly unpleasant, and so different from what both the alleged notes and the reviews on here state. I get literally nothing but the overwhelming stench of sweaty body odor & skunk ass, and just a tiny bit of nebulous 'perfume' smell on par with the power of a LaCroix's flavor. Hopefully I will find someone who actually enjoys this & give them my 10ml so that it won't rot in my cabinet.

First time trying this frag. Sort of reminds me of disco by zernell something in the two is weirdly reminiscent of my kindergarten classroom to me, not sure why, maybe it is similar to a perfume worn by one of the teachers. For that nostalgia alone I really enjoy this. Beautiful fragrance though - very well rounded and all the notes work very harmoniously together. I particularly enjoy the heavy note of ambroxan in this, although it sort of gives off blue designer fragrance vibes for a second. I look forward to trying the rest of zernells house.

I was enticed by the story behind this line, the chocolate + cognac note (and how well I believe all of the notes would encompass hip-hop as a genre) and glowing reviews that talk about this complex multifaceted scent. But to me, this just smelled like old spice. remarkably so. For a $110 30ml bottle (yikes) I just require that it cannot remind me of soap, old spice, bath and body works, or anything within that vein of humdrum experiences. and I didn’t pick up on any chocolate :( you should still try this. It must not have been for me.

Was expecting better. This is predominantly a musk fragrance with some fruit notes (currant, maybe some stone fruit from the weak cognac note), mild sweetness, and amber. The cognac note does not pop and the spices are very very muted. I got lots of hedione in the opening as well which is not my preference at all either. as this dries it gets a little bit better, but all that changed was that the musky opening settles and the ambroxan and soft cacao notes come through. No real wow factor here

This isn't for me although I've enjoyed sampling it and it is unique. I often react to black currant with a hate/fascination combo. It's kind of like "ooh , that's weird and icky but wait a minute let me smell that again. . And booze is always iffy. So it becomes something I'm just uncomfortable wearing even while I'm sniffing my wrist repeatedly. Gonna pass the sample to my friend and see what he makes of it. I definitely can understand liking this.

As someone who associates tastes and smell with weird things like music genres and holidays, I am pleased. This is exactly what hip hop smells like in my mind. Like a chocolatey, fruity cognac. I don’t usually like alcohol notes, but it pairs so beautifully with the other notes and feels kind of smokey in a delicious way. Nice!

This fragrance smells like "should we have a little key should we do a little line??" Bright, clean, deep, magnetic. I think it's appropriate for a night out or your day job. Highly recommend.

whoa...smells exactly like the inside of a frat party lmfao. the vaguely fruity alcohol, the sticky floors, the sweat, and some marijuana. great perfumery, but i would never wear this lol.
