Chameleon Tropical Blooms Edition

This stuff is intoxicating! If you like tropical perfumes and can appreciate a quality fragrance you have to try this. It is so much more high quality, delicious and interesting than 90% of the synthetic, cheap-smelling "tropical fruit" perfumes in the market today. This is what Sol Janeiro wishes it could be. Don't listen to a couple of the moronic reviews below that say this smells like condoms or urinal cake- it DOES NOT. These reviewers (Lamponi and babepdx) are obviously trashy and cannot appreciate a quality perfume. This fragrance fragrance is also not "harshly green" - these idiots need to smell a very green perfume like Chanel 19 so they can know what that actually means. But I digress... This is a lovely sweet, juicy, fruity, warm, lightly-floral and vanillic scent. Very inviting. The reviewers jace212 and gmstrack summed this fragrance up perfectly in their reviews below.

To me this is leaps and bounds better than the original chameleon, which smelled like urinal cakes. This one smells like a fresh blue scent that was sprayed on some lush green jungle foliage, and the dry down is subtle and ambery. Love this one so much.

An interesting beast, this new Chameleon. Whereas the original Chameleon is very floral and solar with frangipani shining all the way through, this new Tropical Blooms edition opts for a lot more fruity, sweeter tangent with yellow floral giving tropical vibes. Yes indeed, this new edition does away with the solar frangipani (not fully to my nose, it's there but it takes the backseat) and replaces it by a blast of ylang and banana leaves reinforced by guava and passionfruit, the result being a much punchier, stronger and sweeter aroma. I really like it, but after giving it a few wears, I have to admit I prefer the original, personally. This one's sweetness and strong yellow floral I feel could get headache-inducing in the humidity, unlike the original which I find is perfect for that. Ylang here is definitely the star of the show when it comes to florals, its peachy scent being the perfect complement for the tropical fruits. The opening results in a very sweet, fruity floral aroma reminding of banana, guava and passionfruit. The florals shine through the mid and get creamy and pleasant through the drydown. It's definitely made to be a springtime daily runner, although it'll do well in cooler summer days (not so sure in the big heat, as stated before). I feel this one could be worn by a guy although it certainly leans very feminine, much more so than the original Chameleon. The longevity and push are quite good, but that may be me being sensitive to the florals. I got good push for an easy 2-3 hours and on skin it lasts for well over 7-8 hours. A female friend will try it on, so I might edit this with her thoughts on longevity and performance later. I do like it, it's not a full on love since I prefer the original but it's certainly pleasant and the different vibes might please those who didn't like the fragipani-forward approach of the original. I feel women might get a lot out of this one.

Full disclosure, I am a big fan of the original Chameleon - which is tropical fruit and salt skin musk. It smells like getting ready for a night out on holiday after a day at the beach. I have been super skeptical about the amount of reformulations Zoologist has been making - especially to some of my favourite scents, but I’ve gone into my testings of the new fragrances with an open mind and nose. The result of Chameleon Tropical Blooms is that this is fun! If the original is after a beach day, this one is in the middle of it. While it’s still flirty and fun like the original, this one feels much lighter and definitely leans more feminine, although I think the right man or person could absolutely pull this off. You initially get very obvious banana leaf and ylang ylang from the jump. It’s a fresh, clean and fun opening. Once the heart notes of tropical fruit and florals get in, it starts to get a bit overly fruity and floral for me and that initial lightness goes away. Upon dry down however, a soft, creamy musk starts to appear thanks to woods and vanilla. That’s what brings me back to enjoying it, as the dry down is unisex and incredibly smooth. It also lasted WAY longer than I ever thought it would - a good 12+ hours. So tl,dr: I liked it! The middle was a bit too much for me, but the opening and dry down of this was lovely and light. It’s definitely more polished than the original Chameleon, but what I’ve loved about Zoologist is how rough and wild it is around the edges while still being incredibly polished. Artistically, I’m afraid that Zoologist is becoming too tame - which I get, but I do hope with the release of Portuguese Man O’ War and the future Raccoon that we are still getting the sensory oddities we’ve all grown to love from the house. Bar a few other fragrances in the line, we do NOT need any further reformulations.

Chameleon Tropical Blooms Edition by Zoologist is a beautiful, fruity tropical floral, but it just doesn't perform very well for me. The opening is amazing with photo-realistic orange blossom and ylang ylang with a prominent banana note all delivered on a warm fresh breeze. The ylang in here is smooth, sweet and fruity, not earthy/dirty, which is what I was expecting. As it dries down, the florals blend into the other notes and the rest of the wear is green leaves, banana, vanilla, a touch of jasmine, and woody notes. I'm not really picking up on the guava, although I can detect the passion fruit, but overall the dominant fruity note is banana. To me, the dry down is a little disappointing compared to the opening, but I still really like it. My skin eats this perfume and it is almost gone after 3 to 4 hours. The question is: Is this on my full bottle list? I am a huge Zoologist fan, but in order for a bottle to make it onto the list, it needs to perform. I'm so torn because this smells so good, but part of me feels like I could get a similar scent profile with better performance and maybe a lower price elsewhere. Final verdict: this is hands down one of the best smelling tropical florals I've ever tried, but it isn't very unique compared to other releases from the brand. Plus, it doesn't seem like it has the same quality and impact that the other fruity florals, Humming Bird and Nightingale, have.

On my skin, CTB is an aromatic, yellow floral and sweet fragrance. I get notes of ylang-ylang and orange at the top, honey, whipped cream and mimosa at the base. In the opening, this fragrance is quite perfumey and can get quite heady. Its sweetness and “perfumey-ness” is its strength and weakness, making it a strong projector but having it end up not smelling niche-like. Im starting to notice a pattern that the new Zoologist scents are catering for mass market, what a shame. got my bottle yesterday, its very feminist i love the opening but dry down is very meh! good but too ladies lol.. nothing so special about this fragrance i love the OG version.. maybe if i want to layer these will make some magic .. its last quiet very long time on my clothes not a skin scent like camel and 75% other zoologist perfumes.. ! 7/10 its perfect gift for your wife/girlfriend lol because its tooo feminine.. ! purchashed from aromaavenue.ae FYI

Different from the original. I loke both profiles. Not sure which one I liked better. Maybe this one. The original didn't last on me. This lasts over 7 hours. But sits closer to skin. Love the bright opening. Wish it lasted longer. As a chameleon, this does shift into a great drydown. I think wearable by any. Nice. Just not sure for me.

The Ylang-ylang is ylang-ylanging. Sweet fruity floral. Bergamot and Ylang. Jasmine, orange blossom and a touch of guava. Some vanilla in dry down.

Very lovely initial spray imo, so green and floral, tropical but not as tropical as you would think, the dry down leans a bit basic.

Interesting take on Chameleon. I like the original one better: it feels tropical, unique, banana-y, a bit medicinal too but in a nice way. This new Tropical Blooms edition smells quite generic and unidimensional. It reminds me of the classics like Soleil Blanc (Tom Ford), Beach Day (Margiela) and so on, but even more focused on flowers and citrus rather than on coconut or vanilla. It's very feminine to my nose, probably the most out of all Zoologists, even more than Dragonfly 2021 and Nightingale. But out of these three, this one feels the least unique. I'm not getting anything special or interesting out of this. The concept of the original Chameleon was that there were so many facets to it, it smelled different in the winter than in the summer, on skin than on clothes, etc. Perhaps I need to try this new edition out later this year to understand its full character.

It's alright. I love the OG one. It has a unique blend of ylang-ylang, spicy sandalwood, aquatic accord, and humid musks. This new flanker does keep the ylang-ylang opening, but then it dries down to a very generic "fruity shampoo" smell to my nose. Very soapy fruity. Meh, they kind of ruined it with the new one in my opinion. It just isn't interesting.

The opening has lots of similarities to the original, with a burst of tropical fruits that borders on medicinal syrup. As it develops it takes a distinctly more feminine turn, settling into a heavily vanilla-driven drydown, but still retaining its tropical undertone. For me the drydown is almost a 1:1 copy of Vilhelm Parfumerie Mango Skin.

I bought a tester of this and i was in for a suprise. i was excpecting a banana and fruits ( know bananas are fruits), but what i got was a green fruity fragrance with a hint of florals. It smells pretty good, but not soemthing i would wear tbh. i can imagine someone with toesocks who likes to camp wear this 6/10

The perfume is fine, but it lacks uniqueness and the typical Zoologist DNA. I hope Victor continues to release unique perfumes and doesn't turn into just another mainstream niche house.

Guava, loads of greenery, latex, and a condom. And this is called “tropical blooms,” is it? This is more of a “Dragonfly”, everything is so aggressively green that the chameleon here is clearly mimicking a lawn. Antoine and I have never gotten along: all his fragrances are either weird in the bad sense, or carry a hint of something bodily and secretional. Same here — fruits, nature, sure, but every now and then something surfaces that polite people don’t name out loud. Nothing in common with the original Chameleon. That one was tender and seductive. This one is a quickie in the grass with a fruit basket nearby. Romantic, sure, just not my kind of romance. P.S. Husband’s verdict upon smelling my wrist: “You smell like a gravy sauce.” Case closed.

“Chameleon Tropical Blooms Edition” is where Zoologist starts feeling less like an avant-garde brand and more like a flanker machine. Common complaints: overly sweet tropical florals, synthetic fruity notes, little evolution, and a safe “designer-like” structure hidden behind niche pricing. Many reviewers say it lacks the strange, risky personality that once made Zoologist interesting. The bigger criticism is that Zoologist no longer feels cutting edge, but increasingly focused on endless special editions, marketable concepts, and profit maximization rather than true artistic experimentation.

I understand where the urinal cake comments come from, but on the skin you don’t get that at all. Instead, it’s heavily ylang ylang opening to me, and as it dries the jasmine and orange blossom really come through. Personally, I don’t smell the guava much, but the banana leaf lingers for a while too giving a slightly tropical edge to this and taking it out of “old lady” territory. If you get migraines from perfumes be careful with this one-it is beautiful but sadly gave me a headache.

Extremely floral fragrance that is heavily on the yellow florals so to try to evoke a banana and it kind of pulls it off. So on that front, I think it works. To pull that off though it lands in a overpowering one note feeling for almost the entire wearing. So if you like that, you'll love it but for me it was a bit too much after a while.

I am utterly disappointed. While the original Chameleon is buttery-smooth, beautifully blended, and highly original, this new version is.... a tropical bathroom freshener. It's screechy and doesn't work at all with the theme of its assigned animal. Is Victor burnt out?

Much more balanced than the previous version. It maintains that multicolored-smelling dna with a more banana-like ylang-ylang, silkened by an airy wave of blanche flowers. The structure is highlighted with an edge of “candied “ fruits that offer a lively contrast to the profile without going childish. Overall, I’d say it’s a clear improvement from the old version but what I do miss is the sea note which would have offered a beautiful texture to the formula. The fragrance is on the pricy side given the scent profile, therefore I advise against blind buying. At last, it’s definitely the kind of fragrance you’d wear at the beach or on a tropical vacation.

on skin- interesting fruity floral opening that very quickly turned jasmine heavy which is fine by me, i’m a big jasmine fan. however this is the third zoologist sample i’ve tried with sandalwood as a base and i’m learning that it will overpower everything else on my skin and they all end up smelling fairly similar

Opening: features the most photorealistic guava note I have ever smelled combining the citric and floral elements of the fruit as it is grown in my garden in Southern California. Mid/Dry: floral, laundry, dyer-sheer, synthetic room-spray element.

Tropical Blooms is spot on. Juicy transportive florals. Almost like you cracked a guava and buttery flowers are growing out of it.
