Civet

I’m just going to admit it - this was my first Zoologist - and it was a blind-buy into the brand because of those notes. I was craving a frangipani-centric scent. After purchasing Civet, my stomach fell into my nuts when I heard people saying this was “challenging” and “strange”. When I got my bottle I already had a box ready for the return shipment. Then I smelt it and was like "what are they talking about?!" This is my perfect photorealistic frangipani and it hit the sweet craving right in the spot - I was so proud! This scent would be in a Roja bottle for $578 or something stupidly unnecessary like that. I keep expecting it to disappoint me and tumble into the urinal cake, mothball zone but it just walks the fine line of development so elegantly changing its character between an indolic floral, a powdery floral, a spicy floral, an acidic citric floral etc. In general, to me Civet smells like a true Plumeria tree - I use to climb them as a kid. You are climbing the tree the rubbery, earthy, sour, sap perfumes your accent and you finally happen upon a bushel of rich frangipanis whose smell is sweeter than honey, berries, or peaches - as sweet as nectar itself bordering acidic. Or it can be a frangipani incense stick if you will - sweet and dusty and somewhat musty. In my experience Civet really "deconstructs" when it drifts in the air - something of an artistic anomaly that I haven’t yet experienced from any other niche or indie perfume. What I mean is that when the scent diffuses in the air it carries such a revolutionary transparency in the way that it is blended that you can experience each individual ingredient you are smelling and imagine them being emphasized in their ideal olfactive fullness. Almost if an Impressionist still-life was a perfume. Your brain chooses to smell one thing out of it and that profile stays linear for the duration of your wearing. Some days I smell the rich acidic coffee, some days I smell the citrus, some days I smell the yellow flowers, some days I get all the animalics and spices. This is 10,000 perfumes in one, yet never chaos. How did they do that...? Heady, rich, strange, too potent? Maybe for some... But for me, I liked it from go. 9.5/10 Edit: I do suggest to try before you buy you may not have the same tastes as me and may actually find this stuffy. But a gorgeous vintage-like Chypre offering from Zoologist nonetheless.

I have the opportunity to try this fragrance today after wanting to do it for a long time and the truth is, it does not disappoint me. It is true, as I read in some comments, that it is not as animalistic as it might seem based on the name of the brand and the perfume, that it does not reach the levels of, for example, Marlou perfumes, but for me, honestly, it is on point just that it makes it perfectly wearable and that it cannot become unpleasant. For me it is a strong and intense aroma, where, although for many the flowers dominate, for my untrained nose and on my skin, it gives me the feeling that civet and resins predominate. It is true that flowers feel are very noticeable but for me the animalic and balsamic part wins. I also notice a sweet part, almost gourmand, although it comes out in a very timid way and is completely overwhelmed by the intensity of the civet. Although I like civet as a perfume, I don't think I ever bought a bottle, although perhaps a travel size, since it is not a perfume that I actually think I will use regularly. A few days ago I had the opportunity to try Sarah Baker's jungle jezebel, which in drying is quite similar to me, although if I had to buy a perfume of this style I think I would opt for it because it has a more interesting character with the fruity point that the banana and the gum give. However, it is a little less intense than this one from zoologist and projects a bit less ... That makes it more bearable but also increases my doubts between the two ... Travel size of civet or full bottle of jungle jezebel? I'm not sure but when I decide it will be a medium-long-term purchase since there are other perfumes that I would like to get earlier. I agree with those who say that civet is not a bomb either! It has an opening that could scare but as soon as it begins to dry down it becomes very pleasant and spicy. So although it is not a perfume for every day or for all tastes, you do not have to be afraid. The fragrance is tame quite well. Civet is a beautiful animalic amber floral of yesteryear. I really get the yellow floral accord very strong. It smells like a fur coat or animal fur as well but in the best possible way. It reminds me of the musky smell of well cared for animals combined with the smells of spring flowers, sweet earth after a rain. Very oily and heavy as well but in a good way. The flowers are very creamy, indolic and heady. The florals in civet really reminds me of the florals in Sonoma Scents jour ensoileille. I had several samples of it and wore them all. All of the flowers are just past their height of perfection and are beginning to fade. They have that oversweet honeyed musk smell that is their swan song before death. The dry down is full of slightly smoky woods, spices, oakmoss and oily creamy florals and musks. I'm glad I didn't turn my back from this brand even though I disliked cow, hummingbird, snowy owl and rhinoceros. Civet is the fur accord fragrance I have been looking for. Musk heaven.. like being wrapped in luxurious warm fur. Animal fur, musks, florals, spices on a bed of coffee, which I usually hate in perfumes but here it blends Seamlessly, because it gives the perfume the texture and feeling you get when you rub a cats fur in the opposite direction. A very clever touch. Civet is a unique musk beauty. Edit: I have been going through my collection and I feel that Revlon's Intimate comes close to Civet in style. They are both heavy warm spicy musk type of fragrances. And both have that oakmoss and animal fur thing going on. I'm trying not to have to many repeats since my collection is large so I think I will pass on Civet but I am happy I tried it. Although my husband is wild about this one. He likes to surprise me so it may end up in my collection anyway. Retested again. Freaking love it damn it lol! Will have to bite the bullet and buy it.

Civet is bottled proof that Zoologist is the definition of niche fragrance and a masterclass in perfumery. This is rich, refined, distinguished, sophisticated, old-fashioned, and inherently vintage. The notes gravitate toward the amber, the slightly animalic, the somewhat spicy, the leathery, and the deeply, highly resinous. Good luck finding anything else like this on the market. When wearing this, I feel like I’m in a Knives Out mystery, and I love it. I’m suddenly transported to a dimly lit and wood-paneled library in an English manor. Chandeliers drip from the ceilings above. Off to the corner, a spiral staircase ascends to a wrought iron balcony. I place down my copy of The Great Gatsby to briefly take a puff from my tobacco pipe. Life is glamorous. Civet exists somewhere between Zoologist’s Camel and Hyrax. It’s comparable to Camel but slightly less sweet, and it’s similar to Hyrax but without the animalic stank (for those who prefer their fragrances to hold the poo, please). Together, these fragrances comprise an eccentric family of moneyed aristocrats, because they’re all related to my nose. Civet is the eldest sibling who’s inherited the throne, the money, and the responsibility of keeping the family in-check. Camel is its younger, sweeter, more feminine sister, and Hyrax is the fun but quirky hipster brother who is averse to bathing. Civet ultimately smells like something from a bygone era. A modern-day silver fox or a black-and-white 1920s starlet from the silver screen could wear this effortlessly. I haven’t bought a bottle (yet) because I’m not sure if I have the maturity to pull this off, but I certainly aspire to. In five words or less: Refined art for mature noses.

WOW! Wearing a sample of this for a week now and have never smelled something similar. This perfume will finally make me pull the trigger and buy my first sweet fragrance. Also I have now sampled almost all zoologist and this one is by far the best one to my nose, one of the most complex ones as well and the first I will buy a full bottle of, and I will now tell you why. So it is a lot going on in the this scent especially in the opening but also later. I have a hard time picking up exact notes other than the amber accord and the flowers which to my nose are the two stars in this from the start. The civet is no main player but a supporting note binding the rest together. On my skin the flowers will be there for maybe 10 hours but in the far far drydown a complex amber is what I get. Will not try to describe the smell more, some get a lot of coffee, I do not, you really have to try this one for you self. But let ́s talk about performance! This the best performing perfume I have ever worn. It lasted until I shower(at least 40h) and it never became a skin scent. I constantly got the most amazing whiffs for two entire days with only two sprays of this, but the best part is that if you do not over spray it is not too loud either. I never got nose blind or felt that it was projecting too much or cloying to my nose. I am very sensitive to sweet scents, and yes, this is a bit sweet, but in an ambery white floral way I to my surprise was able to handle. Guess I have a much harder time with a tonka, vanilla, caramel type of sweetness. Not a safe blind buy, but get a sample if you want to expand your olfactory experience

Wow! This is absolutely fabulous. Not in a conventional clean or pretty way, but in a chaotic, charming, sweet-feral crazy-cute kind of way. I agree with those saying it's not as animalic. It doesn’t lean animistic like Hyrax, Bat or Rhino does. While those are zoo-y scents, this smells like sunshine and synthetic flowers. This is stinky in the best way possible, by that I mean it bombards you with the notes. Lollipops, nectar, and honey. Tanghulu, graham crackers, and even a little chocolate with a faint hay-like undertone. Like if a Marc Jacobs perfume grew up into a bodybuilder. (And a diva, too.) Reminds me of a theme park, and evokes the smell of that more than Toskovat' "Silent At The Theme Park" does. Like a giant lollipop was dropped and is melting in the sun. There’s a skunky, almost fuzzy-smelling base but not in a dirty way at all. Like a huge synthetic flower bouquet masks just enough of the funk to make it weirdly irresistible. If you're afraid of the Civet note, don't be. It's not poopy in the slightest, at least in my experience. You also won't smell like mating season. I smell the flowers (Ylang-Ylang, Heliotrope, Tuberose, Blossoms.) the sweetness (Vanilla, Orange) and then there's something wild in here (I'm guessing it is the Coffee, Incense, Vetiver, Moss, Spices, synthetic Civet and Leather.) Primary note for me is HONEY. Almost as much honey as Bee. It’s annoying and I love it. The only downside? It just doesn’t last long enough! Not sure what occasion it would fit though.

This is simply gorgeous. This is a resinous, tamed animalic, vintage-esque perfume that transports you to the dying heat of late summer, it's sharp and spicy from the carnation, slightly sweet with coffee and leathery, mossy bites... I mean it's deliriously superb. Everything is so well blended. It's such a powerful fragrance, I really love it. So far, this is the best I've tried from Zoologist. An instant love for me. 9.5/10 Edit 2021: Revisiting this after I bought a bottle. I have tried real fresh civet and this neither has it (obviously, it's vegan) nor does it smell like it. But when I originally tried it, and my impression still today, this isn't intended to really smell like civet. Or at least, they failed if they tried. This smells like the idea behind perfumes with civet, the heyday of using animal products to create that kind of nasty, leathery, dirty smell that was so popular for so long. But not the smell itself, I think their goal was to create the idea behind those perfumes. What I think it does well is distill that old idea of chypre and oriental perfumes into something that translates for a modern woman. For me, this really is a carnation forward, spicy fragrance that makes me think of the hottest nights of summer. In that regard, it reminds me of 'Djelem' by Suleko. This is a sultry, sexy fragrance that is also a little spunky and daring. And there is a floral sweetness to it that carries throughout. For me, on my skin, this is delectable.

Raisins, black currants, dates, dried apricot and pastry, that's what this scent FELLS and sort of smells like. It invokes a hunger, its gourmand. End of story. Forget the description. Its gourmand with an amber theme. Long story is that it smells very very alluring, its seductive. It is inviting. Its not complex but that's what i like about this one along with its high amber notes like squid minus the complexity. Its a straightforward scent, you see something, u take it, it doesn't want to be taken, move on to the next one. This is the scent of players in my opinion, I like it. Its on my favorites list now. Its not something I'd wear everyday but its definitely something I'd wear often for certain things. Longevity and projection are heavy, very heavy and i like that because it smells so good. Leans masculine of course and is very very gourmand. Cant stress that enough. Again, think currant rolls for example. This smells like that, also the reason i think its so alluring could be the coffee top notes, coffee is an aphrodisiac, so is chocolate. Squid has a melted chocolate like smell on the dry down, this smells like coffee + pastry on the dry down. Its one of my main scents now. EDIT: This scent is eternal. Its the longest lasting perfume scent i've ever dealt with. Checked the bottle and it says 25% concentration, no wonder.

Civet in my(of course) biased opinion is the best offering from the house for women when it comes to quality. It’s changing all the time,has many facets. It keeps its vintage like ,resinous base but sometimes it’s zesty,then powdery,then floral while keeping its main resinous,balsamic character. It’s hard to describe because it’s very complex and well blended. It’s also really long lasting with good silage. You won’t need many sprays from this one to last. I know a fellow perfumista guy who wears this and it is really nice on him as well. So guys wear it if you like it. But to my nose it leans feminine. I bought a sample set from almost all the Zoologists (except for Hyrax and Nightingale). I like almost all of them they are very artistic and daring and just different. Albeit I do love this ,I know myself ,my personality and my tase enough that this doesn’t suit me. Maybe in 15 years if it still exists. I cherish my sample but I know that I don’t need a bottle of this one. As I keep falling down the rabbit hole and I am getting to know more perfumes I realized that there are ones (like Civet ,or Talismans ‘ OShang) that blow me away yet they are just not me. :)

This is a lovely, honeyed, resinous perfume; the civet is really more of an accent to an otherwise smooth golden amber-and-floral composition. I get an delicious boozy bite and civet growl in the opening, which quickly becomes mellow with resins and ylang-ylang and a bit of spicy carnation. Half an hour in or so, the incense slowly becomes more apparent, adding a spark to the drydown. A ribbon of creamy vanilla, separate from the resins, weaves in and out of focus. It’s a deeply cozy scent, with an aura of old-fashioned glamour. Smooth, golden, a touch powdery, it’s like your mother in her best dress coming back from the opera to kiss you goodnight. Civet is far less aggressively animalic than Bal a Versailles, and perhaps a bit darker in tonality, but similarly musky-golden-creamy in style. I’ve seen Civet compared to Givenchy Ysatis, which is also a honeyed ylang-civet-tuberose scent. This is a beauty. Definitely feminine (though all Zoologist perfumes are marketed as unisex) and retro in aesthetic. Like wearing a comfy yet perfectly tailored camel coat, with a heavy gold-chain necklace. Elegant and lovable.

The house of Zoologist is growing on me. I got their complete sample line and have been having a wonderful time sampling their creations. Some will always probably be outside of my comfort zone ... I'm looking at you T-Rex and Hyrax! LOL But I've come to realize the pure artistry of all of their work. I was really hesitant about trying out "Civet", just based on the name and the associated animalic quality. But what a complete surprise it was to me. What I found was an enveloping scent daydream that left me wanting a full bottle of this masterpiece. Just look at the list of ingredients. It's mind boggling. It's also brilliant. All those various scent profiles combine to create a gorgeous olfactory map that moves you through an unfamiliar, but highly desirable landscape. The realm of the civet. As with all Zoologist perfumes, you want to sample this one before you jump into the deep end and get a full bottle. But a full bottle is exactly what I'm going to get. I'll also be purchasing "Koala". Another home run from Zoologist!

Civet is deliciously floral/fruity, woody, slightly animalic, and very resinous!! Once again, Zoologist animal interpretations are perfectly reminiscent of their corresponding animal moniker... the aroma of this perfume will immediately transport you into the world in which the Civet lives and roams. This liquid is lovely, fragrant, slightly sweet and very interesting, but unfortunately it’s also very faint and intimate. There are a ton of ingredients listed for this concoction, but as mentioned previously, what you’ll get is a sweet aromatic resinous floral/fruity scent, with a very likable greenish wood envelope and an alluring animalic bottom. Not a single ingredient is detectable on its own, all are perfectly well blended. It’s unisex and suited for any weather with the exception of very hot days. Sadly, performance is quite mediocre, and it’s a shame... although much better than other Zoologist parfums. A very lovely scent, I just hope that someday the brand will improve performance.

If it wasn't for the generosity of one of my Fragrantica friends, I wouldn't have ever touched this with a 10 foot pole! I couldn't imagine enjoying a fragrance with such a large amount of civet in it, so I was completely blown away by how much I love Civet! While I am aware of the presence of the note as faintly plastic and urinous notes waft in and out, augmented by the Russian leather, this fragrance has the most gorgeous incense, amber, and other resinous notes I have ever encountered in one perfume. It's complexity is a wonder, making it extremely difficult for me to pick out the majority of the notes in play, which is fine because they all work so well together. Longevity and sillage are pretty killer! I don't think I'll purchase a FB because of the cost, but will do very well with a travel size or large decant, as more than one or two sprays is all that is required. This is a masterpiece.

Feminine leaning, delicious creation, elegant, classy, timeless but modern. Love this one ! Vintage feeling powdery beauty with a touch of animalic modernity. A sensual charming potion, absolutely wearable. Beautiful creation! Even tho it's dense , it's more feminine and classy then ever expected on me. Gorgeous ! it's absolutely beautiful, this is what i immagine old cinema divas to smell like, while getting ready backstage. In a mix cloud of perfume, hair products, red lipstick, pearls, fur, clothes, leather heels, cigarettes ( not that it smells like any of those ) hair brushes in ivory and carved, black and white photos on the walls, and masks and feathers. A slightly imperceptible hint of sweat from performing, and pure feminine seduction. With a ton of flowers from fans , love poems and trinkets. Careful the animalic side comes out after a while...

Others have described Civet so well already, and I know this isn't news. But just in case this helps someone for some reason... Comfy, rich, sweet, and--yes, maybe a little heavy if I'm honest--a powdery, balsamic, citrusy, complex powerhouse of so many pleasant, entertaining impressions. Florals like ylang and hyacinth do make soft appearances, blended with the coffee tones and herbal and camphoraceous tones--Civet just has something for everyone! And for me it all works and is very wearable, even in summer (I live in a fairly cold climate). I love Civet, and I went on to try some of Shelley Waddington's other perfumes from her own company--if you like this you would like probably all of those. They all have a signature lushness and blended-ness that feels so grounding. Civet is very recognizable bc of her unique personality. Admirable.

This is a simple and beautiful perfume. After smelling this I still am not sure what Civet smells like however; I've tried a few civet based perfumes and maybe I can describe it, but I'm still not sure. The main notes i am picking up in this are just very resonous ambers followed by a touch of florals and slight incense. I keep reading that people smell poop or piss, but I have never gotten that with perfumes that contain Civet, and especially not this one. It does keep evolving however as I'm smelling it, slightly transforming into an almost coffee scent accompanied by the resins? I'm not sure, maybe I'm being persuaded by the extensive note list. Either way, I love this and I would even say this is one of the best ambers I've ever smelt.

On my skin, Civet is an ambery, balsamic and woody scent. Notes i get are plum and dried fruits at the heart, amber, balsam, woods, myrrh, benzoin and the slightest amount of civet in the base. This is a combination of Osang by Menditorossa and Smoking Hot by Killian. Somehow, the civet note make it quite light and thus a touch awkward, perhaps adding tonka bean to ground it would round it out nicely, but with its lighter nature im sure it would project more. As it dries down however, it does get thicker and the balsamic quality leans sweet like vanilla, amazing. 9 hours in i start to get some dusty peppery notes. Scent: 9 Longevity: 10+ hrs Projection: 9 Versatility: 6 Originality: 7 Wearability: 10 Overall: 9 Rec Sprays: 4-6

I've always been a fan of animalic and challenging perfumes. Civet by Zoologist is difficult to describe as it is very complex and well blended. On my skin Civet goes floral, and these flowers are surrounded by a layer of leather, resins and animalic notes, bound by a considerable amount of oakmoss, creating an extremely intense perfume. All this makes Civet by Zoologist a dense and full-bodied resinous perfume, with floral notes, coffee, and resins, The scent is powerful, deep, sweet, warm, dark, unisex, sophisticated, luxurious, and original. All of this results in a fantastic longevity, lasting more than 12 hours on my skin, with excellent projection during the first 3-4 h. One of my favourites from Zoologist.

Indescribable, and absolutely lovely. I was afraid to try this, in fact Civet was not even on my radar. I was thinking this would be too animalic on my skin just based off the name alone, and it’s quite the opposite. There’s no way I can pick out all the notes listed above. My effort to describe this scent will be one sentence: a beautiful medley of narcotic tropical florals over a powdery bed of spices. Complex, but blended into a smooth, easy to wear perfume with above average performance and projection. My partner in the room next to me can smell it. Signs Zoologist's Civet may be right for you: 1. You are receptive to the great arts of today. Even our madman Stravinsky does not trouble you. And yet you seek refuge from the trials of our modern age. 2. You blanch not at the scent of wild jungle beasts. And anyhow, while this is named for the most dangerous of notes, it may be one of Zoologist's subtlest uses of the feral humors. 3. You need a warm, comforting embrace of a fragrance whilst you indulge in pastimes at your country retreat. These pastimes may include: reminiscing on past episodes of debauchery; exploring the most outré aesthetic arts; dreading the inevitable gout. Ask your apothecarist about Civet today!

man this is beautiful! very musky and fruit forward on my skin, with the resinous and slightly animatic"ish" background. I feel like there is this tobacco like accord as well as a oriss /iris like accord in the mix as well but that might be the florals and green notes all mixing together beautifully. I also get a sort of "fuzzy" animal like feeling to it, not a smell, a sort of texture that I haven't really experienced in perfumery thus far. I get about 5 ish hours of moderate longevity and then lasts about 2 or 3 hours as a skin scent, maybe more because it feels like a musk or second skin to me. overall I love it and for some reason feel like I can where it whenever

this is one of my 3 favorite zoologist perfumes!! it feels purple, if that makes sense. very fruity and musky, not quite sophisticated but not base. it makes me want to go to a dance, perhaps a discotheque, wearing outlandish paisley styles and dance all night with a pretty person. or perhaps, it makes me want to wrestle, a sudden explosion of positive body movement, giggling and gripping and flushed and sweaty on the floor. this is a fun, funny perfume, which is excellent for me. something that gonzo the great might wear, if the muppets were not owned by disney and if the muppets wore perfume. not overpowering, not underwhelming, civet is just right for me!

whenever someone asks me about my favorite perfumes, civet is always one that comes to mind. this is what i reach for when i want to feel truly extra. and do i get compliments wearing this? every! time! an intriguing adventure, an old world safari on the savannah, a special evening in the sun. civet is fruity, spicy, musky, ambery, musty, animalic and resinous all at once, and it shows no signs of slowing down. this lasts for 24 hours, sometimes longer. it definitely works better in colder weather, but no one could stop me from wearing it in the hottest summer either! read more of my reviews on instagram: @scentrified

Just baught a travel sized bottle of this, on my skin the scent has a warm caramelized vibe with coffee and laubaudnum as the strongest scents, with more savory or almost salty herbal and resin scent when I really get up close. I dont get a lot of the citrus and florals except for right when I spray it and sometimes an orange peel sent in the dry down. The result can be warm and cozy or more like an antique store depending on the weather, definately more retro feeling and a bit dirty and funky at times but I love it for that and plan on wearing it throughout autumn and winter.

Civet! A vintage inspired, modernist take on a fruity chypre. Yes I know I just contradicted myself, I couldn’t tell which way in decades this scent could take me. It’s unlike anything I’ve smelled with animalistic accords. It opens with a super bright citrus, then out comes the florals, until drying down into this seductive warm, and leathery accord. Someone commented down below to be careful how much of this you spray to control the animal notes, I sprayed religiously then rolled around on my bed in complete bliss, smelling myself and reaching some state of nirvana here.

This one is so fu***** masterly well blended, creativity is high and how much sophistication can you count a level? this takes the maximum. Animalic smell in floral and incense, amber mostly winter time and cold weather, it gives you a vibe of a vintage palace in front of a bonfire with fur in a very beautiful way.. strange warm not sweet but delicate. I like this one very much.. Longevity stays a lot of time sillage is very good, some might find it powerful so don’t spray much.. i say you should sample it first of course. 9/10

I have been wearing this beauty since receiving my travel spray in Nov. and it is proving to be the perfect cool weather scent. If the thought of Civet scares you, no fear...this is NOT a civet-bomb, but rather a vintage-inspired perfume in which the Civet manages to support and always be present, but in the background. If you love as I do, vintage scents like Arpege or My Sin, you will love this perfume! Shelly Waddington and Victor Wong have a huge winner on their hands. One of my top 5 of 2016!

First wearing, I oversprayed. Birds fell stunned from branches and I was driven from the village by an angry mob. Second wearing, two light squirts. Then a harmonious blend of musk, leather, flowers, all was in balance. It may not be liked by some, but they wouldn't like Shalimar either. Once I reined in my tendency to spray myself with scent as if I've bathed in it, this is a lovely blend, with ferocious tenacity, as one might expect. So, a light touch ;) x

Beautiful, luxurious, fantastic, etc. What more can I say? This is such a great scent. There’s something deeply nostalgic about this, it’s like a refined old lady’s vanity, laden with vintage makeup and fancy perfumes given to her throughout the years. This might be my favorite zoologist fragrance. In terms of longevity, sillage, and even the way it clings to my skin. This is a smell that exudes confidence, and I loved wearing and embodying it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Without a doubt this in minpiel, it became a powdered citrus that I undoubtedly liked, I thought it was going to become more animalistic, but it really is not like that on my skin. The leather note lasts about 2 hours after drying, without a doubt the orange and the wood, remain until the end of the remaining 6 hours. projection in me about 4 5 easy hours. I bought a decant and I had to make a big purchase with my large bottle without a doubt.

a little too maximalist femme for me now, such that wearing it feels a bit like being in drag - an old Hollywood evening scent, fur coats and set hair and the slightly chalky smell of MAC Russian Red - but played an important role in my romantic life at one time and so remains precious to me. I still think the black coffee note is genius and the sillage is so intense that one spritz makes a very decadent room spray (sacreligious I know!)

i remember what this reminds me of! mitsuoko edp, the current version! it s a beautiful scent, if you can live through the heavy opening. it simply blooms into some fruity florals. it sparkles!!! the eponymous opening note gives civet depth and character. as i already have mitsy and it s great for cold, rainy or moody days, owning civet is redundant for me. but i do admire its craftsmanship 👏👏👏 god, it reminds me of grandmas house😌 ✨

This is what Camel should’ve been. The civet accord used is the same as in other zoologists without coming off as too harsh or pissy and works well surrounded by leather, florals, and resins. This is dark, old-fashioned, but fantastic with enough nuances to making each wear something different, although it isn’t very strong projecting imo at all it lasts well up to 8 hours on skin, really enjoyed this one.

starts with bright citrus and pepper before leaning into fresh sweet florals. it finally dries into a beautiful musk, incense, balsam, leather scent. dark, warm, complex, comforting, intoxicating. as another reviewer said, this scent is a good middle ground between camel (which is sweeter) and hyrax (which is more animalic). it's one of my favorite perfumes and my go to nighttime fragrance.

Civet is an expression of aromatic, warm spicy, musky, animalic, floral, woody and fruity. The scent is smoothly blended I cannot describe it enough in words. I reconize the animalic musky and the coffee undertone. The combination of yellow floral and coffee slightly reminds me of Tom Ford Vanille Fatale (the old packaging version). I think this scent is the best of Zoologist yet.

I get a lot of orange with this one. But like a warm spicy orange instead of a bright juicy orange. The "spice" feels pretty undefined and hard to pin down and blends seamlessly with the woodsy and animalistic elements. Fairly resinous but it's not overpowering the fragrance. Its a soft and deep scent once it dries down. Like something simple/classic made complex and interesting.

Is there such thing as a guilty pleasure perfume? If so, zoologists civet is it. I love the old-school vintage floral character that civet has. There’s also something undeniably sour and tart about this perfume. It’s odd, and it works wonderfully. All of the notes seem carefully placed together so that nothing is sharp and everything flows well. I will need to buy a bottle soon

Rochas Femme on steroids. Not really "civet-y" despite the name. The civet is there but it's an undertone, hidden away behind the glorious fruity, spicy, resinous, richness that this fragrance wraps you in. Lasts for more than 12h and it's delightful at every stage. Much like Femme, it's a wonderful cold day perfume and will be especially good around Christmas.

HNNNNNNNG Civet is gorgeous. Rich, resinous, full of spiced fruits,* and quietly animalic. Cosy-sexy, just right for the colder half of the year. Probably not for wearing in a cramped office, or in a car with your friend who gets travel sick, but definitely not offensive. I need a bottle of this. So do you. *not in the Christmas candle pop-up shop way

Wearing this makes me wanna be smoking in an alley while I hear music blaring out of the brick building building I'm standing next too. Ive got coffee breath from the morning, whisky in my throat, and smoke in my nose. The music is loud but there is a calmness out here in the street, the alley smells bad but I smell great.

This is gorgeous. The amber and animalic notes combination is stunning. I mostly detect resin, incense and animalic pleasant notes. They are not offensive at all. The amber significantly softens them up. I agree that this scent is not for everyone. It's cozy, intense, warm, unique and very projecting.

my husband put this on just for giggles because i told him how stinky the civet note is in perfumery and whew, it suits him beautifully😮💨 it s old school french perfume with a modern twist, cant explain it, im not versed enough in perfumery. be patient with it. it s melancholic and powerful

Smells EXACTLY like my grandmother’s vanity in the best possible way. I love LOVE this fragrance. Avon nostalgia wrapped in modern elegance. Very chic. I think the trend of the next few years will lean back to classic profiles like this one. Once again, zoologist is ahead of the game.

Despite the vintage funk this perfume seems to be inspired by, it's absolutely beautiful. I really want a full size bottle of this but as someone who likes matching perfume to my outfits, I'm not sure my style of dress fits. This is giving mob wife, Polly Shelby, kind of vibes.

The mixture of white florals with coffee, resins, civet and spices leaves the fragrance very modern, without losing the classic soul of vintage florals. Very present on the skin, it marries too well with a colder climate. It's a masterpiece.

I'm not getting much civet in this. This scent seems to be dominated by the ylang-ylang and tuberose. It's beautiful, sweet, and light. There may have been a bit of an animalic note at the beginning, but it subsided quickly.

Evokes the aura of a 19th-century vintage Italian mafia boss seated in a grand leather chair, cigar in one hand, Tommy gun in the other. Beastly performance, easily lasts 12+ hours and fills the entire room.

One of the best amber scents I've ever tried. Gorgeous. Fruity, amber, powdery, smoky, love it. This smells like winter to me, I think it is the spicy Orange that is there through most of the fragrance.

This is what I imagine the original Chanel No. 5 smelled like before they reformulated. Very vintage vanilla for the mysterious girlies. Who knew marsupial butt could smell so good!

Absolutely divine. Smells warm and feels like a fuzzy sweater on a Fall day. I'm a big fan of resinous scents so this was obviously a must buy for me.
