Dragonfly

I was lucky enough to be able to get my hands on a sample of this bottle, the original Dragonfly (before it was discontinued and reformulated in 2021 to the current version). And I’m in love. *If anyone has a full or even a partial bottle of the ORIGINAL Dragonfly that they’re willing to sell, please contact me!* If you're reviewing the current Dragonfly that you recently purchased from the Zoologist website, then you're reviewing the wrong fragrance here, and you instead want the 2021 Dragonfly page. Both are nice in their separate ways, and it's a shame that Zoologist couldn't continue selling both the OG version and the current, slightly more masculine/unisex version (after all, two dragonflies are better than one - mating season, babyyyyy, amirite?!). Okay, with that out of the way, let’s fly on to the review of OG Dragonfly. The original Dragonfly shares similarities with the current 2021 version although they’re still different creatures entirely, and equally difficult to compare. They live on opposite sides of the pond, if you will. Whereas the current 2021 Dragonfly is more aquatic, ozonic, iridescent, and smells far more “green,” the OG Dragonfly is more moody, powdery, feminine, floral, and it smells exactly like what you’d imagine a light hazy purple would. I can particularly detect the notes of iris, lotus, heliotrope, cherry blossom, rice, and rain – except in my mind, it’s purple rain. 2021 Dragonfly shimmers and bounces across the pond during a bright afternoon. Meanwhile, OG Dragonfly broods in a quiet and elegant haze of melancholia amongst the reeds and the cattail plants, underneath a drizzling and violet purple sky at dusk. 2021 Dragonfly accurately conjures a pond or greenhouse, but OG Dragonfly isn't as photorealistic. Instead, OG Dragonfly conjures ethereal beauty: it’s a buzz-worthy, lilac-hued jewel. This OG Dragonfly smells like a priceless piece of impressionist art in a well-curated museum. Except the purple flowers in that painting are now oozing, melting and dripping off the canvas and onto the floor in a swirling, muddled, beautiful pastel mess. OG Dragonfly is ethereal and wistful – there’s something vintage about it that conjures an almost antique-like quality that vaguely reminds me of something from childhood, but which I can’t quite put my finger on. OG Dragonfly is more ineffable and indescribable than its current counterpart. I read that OG Dragonfly feels like a portal to another world, and there’s something oddly accurate about that. It has an unknown, surreal, and mystical quality that borders on otherworldly. While I enjoy both the original and the current 2021 version of Dragonfly, I think I need to give the edge to OG Dragonfly. In five words or less: Impressionist flowers oozing off paintings.

This is a lot less watery/aquatic and green than I thought it would be. On my skin Dragonfly is more a slightly powdery/dusty, milky and misty scent, a scent that makes me think of lavender coloured morning twilight. It's beautiful, but in a completely different way than I expected. The heliotrope note is very strong on my skin, and so is the rice. Together they make a smell that reminds me of soft, sweet floral almond milk - which I guess is what creates that misty atmosphere. And this nutty, milky floral smell lasts a really long time on me. To me this is more an intellectual and conceptual scent than an actual replica of a place/a landscape. Dragonfly contains notes that creates images in my mind, images of an early morning by a pond or a lake, the light is dim and cool, there is a mist floating just above the water and in between the trees - but the scent doesn't smell photorealistically like dewy grass, woods and actual water. It smells more like a time of day (morning), a light phenomenon (twilight), a colour (cool lavender) and a weather phenomenon (mist) - and all these things together makes the mind create a picture of a landscape that matches the place dragonflies hatch and live. It's genious and a real work of art. The scent is soft, calming and sensual in a very innocent and charming way. It smells very harmonious and tranquil. Towards the drydown the milky, misty almond notes and the floral part of the scent takes a step back and leaves room for a very pleasant vanilla (it's probably a part of that amber accord). Sillage is medium to strong, and longevity is very good. On my skin this lasts 8-10 hours. I want a bottle! <3

Well, this is just lovely. A very pretty little pond dotted with flowers and fairies that pretend to be dragonflies at sunset. This is aquatic but not in the way you’d expect. It has that ozonic smell in the air right before or during rain. The starch of the rice adds a pinch of something rich otherwise the wispy florals and aquatics would be too light to capture in a bottle. The floral stand out is the lotus which helps lends to the aquatic leaning magic. There was something that almost smelled like dry wood which is the papyrus and oak moss which when it combines with the iris and heliotrope gives it a little bit of a powdery ladylike quality and a mossy forest feel. The aldehydes are done very well in here. They aren’t the kind that bowl you over like in that iconic Chanel fragrance that I won’t go into here, but they are modern and used with restraint. It adds a little drop of airy etherial beauty. The clover adds that wonderful green grassy twinge and the musk gives it that smoothness along with the woody velvety sandalwood. This fragrance isn’t cloying, or sharp, or too green. Like one astute reviewer said, “this is unique and wearable” and manages to give you something romantic, and light as dragonfly wing all while telling you a story. It’s fresh but also a little funky like the real outdoors and truly does capture a rainy little fairy land in the forest. Gosh I love this house! I mean it’s just fun isn’t it?

Dragonfly is my unexpected favorite of the Zoologist line! I find big dragonflies that aggressively steer towards me a bit scary. But this scent is more like a smaller, beautifully colored dragonfly that just flies above a pond in a garden full of pastel flowers. I would describe this fragrance as an aquatic floral gourmand. It's very unusual. I'm not a big fan of watery notes of any kind, but the rain note in here is beautiful. Today we have a rainy spring day with a thunderstorm, I'm wearing my sample of dragonfly and feel that the rain note captures the mood well. It doesn't feel beachy or too clean, but like sweet water, like rain or maybe a little creek in the woods. In the beginning I get a hint of old school aldehydes that support the rainy freshness. On the other hand, the rice note is also very noticeable, like warm, nutty rice pudding. Heliotrope adds an almondy, sweet note. Later the florals come out, cherry blossom is most noticeable on my skin, but peony and lotus are close seconds. The basenotes are light here, there's just a hint of earthy and mossy notes in the drydown, but this is rather a fresh scent, focussed on the top and middle notes. This way it works really well on warm and humid days. The notes might sound like an odd mixture, but they play together delightfully. I love it!

There is something in the opening that comes through as a bit odd to me. Not unpleasant, but odd. It vanishes after a few minutes completely. The most prominent notes to me are rice (like when boiling while rice), rain notes, florals and musk. It's a lovely watery floral scent with a dash of milky softness & a twist of mystery. I have to confess it is well made and actually quite different from anything else in this category. I can detect almost all the notes and they produce a sparkly effect that rests on a breath of light sweetness. I would not buy it thou, to light and fragile for me. Longevity very good. I sprayed in the morning and went out. Came back home after 7 hours and I could still smell in clearly. It was softer, but completely there. This might be a safe blind buy for light fragrance lovers that are looking for something more complexed. My husband loved it on me. This is absolutely unisex. Tested from a sample sent directly from Zoologist.

When I was trying samples from Zoologist, I saved Dragonfly for last because I wasnt much interested in the name. Once I sprayed it on my wrist, my soul was fluttering with happiness and hope: Its spring time in the country side, by the deep lake. Laying on a warm rock, you are taking in the mystery of nature. A huge dragonfly passes you by smoothly; her wings are transparent and cheerful, her body shining like an armour of jewelry. How wondrous. There are pink flower petals floating on the surface of the water, swaying silently. The water is dark green, hiding its muddled depths. You wonder what kind of creatures it withholds. You gaze into the water, only seeing your reflection back. You are younger than yesterday. Life is beautiful. I adore this fragrance. Creamy, floral goodness. This is not only a scent, its storytelling, its art, its magic in a bottle. Love love love it.

There’s something magical about Zoologist’s florals. Although I dislike florals as a general rule (I usually find them too cloying, powdery, syrupy, and/or headache-inducing), this is the second FB floral I’ve purchased from them. Dragonfly opens with a light, watery musk. Lemon is listed as a top note, but I don’t get any citrus at all- this is fresh air in a garden after the rain, with a hint of lipstick-iris. It dries down into a soft, creamy, floral rice pudding. If, like me, you loved Safran Troublant but couldn’t bring yourself to purchase a scent with such poor longevity, give Dragonfly a try. It’s not a twin of Safran- more like a cousin; a blue-tinged violet to the rose-gold of Safran. The amber and sandalwood ground this scent and keep it from going too candy-like or powdery. Just a beautiful composition.

The Zoologist line always looked interesting, but intimidating. So I was really excited to see the "lighter" notes listed when this came out, and I ordered a sample immediately. I can't pick out the individual notes other than heliotrope, which for me means it's "well blended," like I get with a lot of Guerlain stuff. The overall effect for me is a very pleasant watery fresh pink floral. Predominantly floral more than anything, but I think a man, or even a woman who's not into florals could totally wear this. I've got a sample of Panda 2017 on my other arm right now which seems quite a bit stronger (or maybe just harsher) than this, so I'm surprised to see the votes for "enormous" sillage. I can smell it pretty well though. I'll have to try wearing this to the office Monday and see how it goes.

I was wary about the "rain" note, as I often don't mesh well with aquatics, but I love iris, heliotrope, aldehydes, oakmoss, and clover as well as loving most other Zoologist fragrances, so I figured I'd give this a go. It feels kind of like a mildly humid summery day in a way, with the rain and rice notes, which I think is evocative of a dragonfly's hot and marshy habitat, but it's not a full on wet and aquatic, which I greatly appreciate and isn't a total calone bomb. It's a very nice "fresh" fragrance for spring and summer, but one that is still unique and wearable. I can even get away with this one in the office, which is definitely not true of some Zoologist frags! It's very delicate and elegant but still interesting. I love this perfume as I do with most from this house.

The more I wear Dragonly and Macaque, the more I love them. There is something intensely pastoral about them both; Dragonfly is the afternoon in a large spring meadow, surrounded by mimosa and lilacs and wildflowers, all gently warmed by the sun. Macaque is early summer morning on my farm, everything wet and green and earthy. In a way, Dragonfly reminds me a little of Eden by Cacharel, but only as an impression. Dragonfly is extremely well-done, nothing is out of place or too much. It manages to be yellow and purple and green all at once; those of you who smell in colors will understand that statement. I struggle with Zoologist as a house (though I respect his vision immensely) but I absolutely adore Dragonfly. Certainly full bottle worthy and worth the price.

Oh wow. This one creeps up on you. Upon first spray I thought “yes this is pleasant and aquatic, nothing special though, I don’t think it’s worth a full bottle.” But after wearing it for a few days I’ve realised it’s so unique. It’s a light water scent, not at all sweet or floral. It’s also not jarring or sharp to the nose like some ozonics. I don’t actively notice the rice note at all, but I think it’s what grounds this and makes it so unique. The sillage isn’t incredible, but the longevity surprised me for such a light, dainty scent. I noticed this on a sweater two days after wearing it, and it clung to my hair for almost 4 days. I think potentially worth a FB investment. Edit: I got my sample in 2022 so it’s likely this is the reformulation.

So, Dragonfly is a beautiful aquatic floral that feels fresh, ozonic, powdery, and wonderfully strange—more or less an entire atmosphere in a bottle. In a way, my mental image is a rain-soaked floral pond filled with wet greenery, cool air, and delicate powdery petals. It feels very peaceful, yet vibrantly alive, as though the whole pond awakened after a summer storm. The opening is very strong and sparkling, with that unmistakable 1990s freshness that instantly reminds me of Les Belles de Ricci. Yet it never feels dated; instead, it becomes lush, vivid, and almost dreamlike. So, this is not a safe blind buy. Test it first—but for those who love evocative perfume weirdos, Dragonfly is truly magical. 🪷🌧️

Oh this is so beautiful. I originally bought only the 12ml travel size and was gonna buy a bottle but they discontinued it. Then a new formula was introduced in its place and i don’t really like it. So I searched for the original purple juice. And finally I found a man in Canada who thought it was too feminine for him and sold it to me, for a lot less than full price. I was so thankful to him. I love my Dragonfly. I guess if you’re patient and search long enough, u will eventually find what u want. I just wanna say thank u to the kind man who sold me this beauty

It's a wonderful, light and airy scent. Very airy I guess from the aldhydes. I don't get much rain tbh. It's not an aquatic. Definitely a Chypre. A great choice to wear in the heat. I can't pick out the rice but the lotus and peony are very evident. I recognise thd papyrus and a little cherry blossom. If there is heliotrope then its faded very quickly. The oak moss cuts through the other notes to stamp it's Chypre mark. Very unisex, airy and bright. It's a shame the longevity and sillage are less than moderate on me in this 28 degree room.

I don't know how Zoologist does it - they have captured the scent of a Dragonfly's environment here. It smells like a lake after a rain, very fresh and lovely. But it is done in a very natural way. I get slight lemon overtones in the beginning and the clover and lotus are the strongest florals... I don't detect any rice. This does not smell like algae or a dirty pond- this is an idealized version of the watery environment of a dragonfly. If you love perfume you really just have to try all the Zoologist scents. They do not disappoint.

I have never fallen for an water/beach fresh type of scent. Not in the 1990's or ever until this one. It's a wonderful scent for summer. It's definitely a rainwater ozone scent, fresh with some green, a tad strong on the heliotrope but It's really a cooling smelling perfume. A little goes a long way though. It's got a very strong sillage. I have this on my want list though. It's able to transport me to a garden filled with fountains and water and flowers.

Extremely photorealistic transportation to kneeling by a pond during a New England summer - reeds and clovers crushed beneath you while you tuck a flower into the pocket of your shirt. Fresh and verdant, entirely its own. I'm torn on how wearable this is for me, but I *adore* it as a piece of art. I'll try donning it in summertime when the aquatic elements of it feel quenching and I wish to feel like I'm transported away from the city and into nature.

Futuristic fresh fragrance. This is a "fresh" done right; ozonic laundry-like notes contrast with a serious aldehyde-y heliotrope and papyrus. Both sharp and creamy at the same time. There's something reminiscent of the Nile; water, papyrus, and lotus flowers. I wouldn't say this is realistic but rather an impressionistic painting of sitting by the Nile. Another hit by a house which is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Fresh but weighty.

Considering the vivid journey this scent takes you on, I'm surprised of its wearability. This is the first fragrance containing obvious aldehydes that I've actually taken a liking to, it creates a lightness that lifts the scent out of the earthy murky depths (papyrus note) like the lift of a breeze under a dragonfly's wings ducking and weaving by a bubbling brook. This is a very clever concoction.

Definitely one of the most astonishing fragrances I've ever tried. Depicted the lake environment so well. I'm genuinely amazed by how well this fragrance managed to combine aquatic tone with greenery. Never tried anything close to this. It feels vibrant and fresh, with a hint of peacefulness in it. I would not consider buying since I'm male but this really is one of the best!!

This is unique and wearable. I keep getting these wonderful floral whiffs every now and then. Definitely getting a lightly powdery scent up front. Not cloying or overly sweet but not a harsh chypre, either. Soft, light. Artistic but wearable in every day life. I highly recommend trying a sample. As the drydown continues, I realize this is going on my FB want list. Excellent!

Beloved. A rain shower in a herb garden. Prominent notes of water and leaves, followed by florals, parsley, fresh soil, rice. One of my very favorites, despite its flaws--does not last for very long and sits very close to my skin. But this is a very easy-to-wear and inoffensive scent, so it would be hard to use too much.

The original is so much better, the purple juice. I was lucky to buy the last bottle . Now this new green one smells like pickle juice . This is why I don’t like Zoologist anymore, they pull this crap too much!. I would never buy the green reformulated crap . It’s nasty smelling.

This is becoming my favourite scent. It is light but enduring and changes over time. I didn't know that I was a chapter fan but I am. I am new to fragrances but loving the journey. Victor is great at adding a personal note with the shipment and I appreciate that.

Art in a bottle. Like someone said, it’s magical. It’s nostalgic, it reminds me of something, yet it’s very actual and revolutionary. The rain note makes it special. Otherwise, it’s a gorgeous, smooth powdery fragrance. Will compliment just about anyone I think!

Dragonfly smells exactly how I imagined it would. It reminds me of my childhood playing in streams and rivers in the forest. The dragonflies would come zooming past while the air was filled with the scent of water and summer flowers.

Aquatic, fresh, green, airy florals. This is quite unique, I like the rice note. I think this a soft, feminine fragrance with good sillage and longevity. I think it's perfect for spring or for the office.

Opens very green, like freshly cut grass. Once that wears down, the floral combination appears and it is so beautiful. I absolutely can visualize the stained glass-like wings of a dragonfly. In my top 5

I love the 2017 version as well, please if anyone wants to sell me their bottle, I would really appreciate it. I am so mad at myself for not buying a bottle back before it was horribly reformulated.

So sad that this one has gone. A beautiful purple watery lilac cherry blossom that is saved from over-prettiness by that starchy rice note. If anyone has a bottle they want to sell, let me know.

I want to gatekeep this one so much. If this was in an MFK bottle it would be way more popular. Same vein as Amyris Homme Extrait with a bit of its own green, herbal twist. I love it. 9.5/10

This is like a perfect mix of Gucci Bloom and Chanel No. 5!

Immediately applying this, it was not exactly what I expected. I heard about this being evocative of lakes and impressionist paintings, etc. Instead when I applied, my first thought was it reminded me some of Chanel no 5, and also baby powder. (But don't worry, it doesn't stay that way) A couple minutes in and it's very aldehydic, but in a classic Zoologist way, it does have something just a touch more realistic to it, like you can smell some dirt in the air. And a bit after, the rain and watery floral notes come out. This now is more what I expected and really is a beautiful, aquatic floral scent. A peaceful rainy day by a lake with flowers blooming nearby. It's uplifting and calming. I could see this in spring or early June rainy season. Hydrangea isn't a note in here, but that image comes to mind of those blooming in the rain in late spring and early summer. 10 minutes later and I notice a somewhat starchy rice scent coming through, but with still a pretty aquatic floral element. There is almost a touch of sweetness there as well? This make me think of a soft watercolor painting, made of blues and purples. Also, it's projecting about 3" from my skin, but is lighter. Airy, watery, and green. 20 minutes later it starts to develop a slight warmth to it. I'm getting a hint of sweet spiciness from the sandalwood and amber. Some mossiness as well, that adds a bit of vintage smell, but it's not overpowering. The slight warmth is perhaps like putting on a light jacket after being out in the rain. I also only had a 1/2ml sample, so it might not be the case for everyone, but it is already a skin scent, while also being lighter. It's still very pretty though. 1 hour later and there is only a slight hint of this left on my skin. I will blame this though on perhaps the smaller sample I had since it seems to last significantly longer for other people based on the reviews. What I can smell though is that it's turned pretty sweet and woody and green, which seems like the basenotes I mentioned before, but amped up. Very nice, but also pretty different from where it started. 2 hours later and I again, am not smelling much, but whatever faint whiffs are left are now very musky.

Zoologist Dragonfly is a delicate, powdery aquatic floral. The opening is all rainwater and rice paper and dewy freshness; then we get fluffy, powdery heliotrope and iris, very feminine and ladylike. Somewhere in the early drydown there’s a musk note that’s *not* clean “white musk”, but a bit earthy and even animalic. It’s odd, I’m not crazy about it in this dainty context, and it would totally be off-putting to someone who’s less of a musk fan than me. But it’s gone in fairly short order. Basically, this is a cool, fresh powder scent, with a lot more nuance than most things in the genre. A lot easier to wear, I find, than its inspiration, Apres L’Ondee, but it has a similarly pastel-blue dreamy aesthetic. Nice on a hot summer day; an aquatic note without the blinding whiteness of L’Eau D’Issey. The far drydown is sweet and sort of doughy; that’s the heliotrope. It’s kind of like the sweet sour cream dough of hamentaschen or kolasci. If that dough also had some delicate floral touches. The “perfumista” impulse is to look down on clean scents as shallow and dull, but I really can’t bring myself to dislike Dragonfly. It smells clean and pretty and dammit I like that!

Dragonfly is a beautiful powdery floral fresh scent. To me it's mostly very powdery cherry blossom (really reminds me of Japanese Cherry Blossom by The Body Shop) mixed with lotus, water-y rain notes and a hint of rice and lemon. I can only detect rice in the opening and only smelled up close, it gives off a thick, somewhat bitter protein-like smell. This is a very nice scent, definitely more wearable than most of Zoologist offerings (even though I love them all), yet sadly does not perform as well as the others from the house (due to it's lower concentration at 15% essential oils). To me this is borderline feminine, something I could not wear myself. However, it is great for a classy woman. I definitely recommend sampling this one as it can become your all year signature scent due to it's friendly, lovable nature. P.S. This fragrance does not conjure up an image of a Dragonfly to me personally, then it would have to be more water-y and green, rather than so powder-y and sweet (in my opinion). To me, it could represent a beautiful Japanese garden in bloom. As far as I know that is the idea behind Nightingale, but it would work with this one as well.

Those astonishing biological alchemists have done it again, because this is indeed the most fresh-airy, light-shimmering-on-a-pondy, outdoorsy, flowery fragrance imaginable. It's an amazing effect - almost like synaesthesia (which I definitely do not have) - the mental image of sunlight glinting on the water and something buzzing and darting about is just so vivid. Full of overwhelmingly natural and fresh and genuine, organic-smelling florals too. Just pure quality. So why didn't I like it? Well, partly because this floral-aquatic-chypre territory isn't my natural perfume home - but also because of the exceptionally sparkly-buzzy burst of aldehydes up at the top ... I just can't cope with them, sadly - they are just nose-repellent for me. So unfortunately this is one of the Zoologists I can only admire from afar, while it just isn't a workable wear for me. But if you don't have that aversion to aldehydes, and really really want to smell like the true essence of a spring morning, because honestly this does conjure that amazingly, give it a go. It is certainly a work of art.

It is very hard to describe this scent... It smells nice, sharp green-fresh-citrusy-floral. Not sure, there are definitely a few flowers, but I can't name them, almost an old-fashioned aldehydic-powdery mix of florals. Very comfortable, nothing annoying. The green notes here are more aquatic than bitter. Some powder notes, very familiar, similar to the generic Guerlain's Meteorites powder, I mean the makeup. Leathery sandalwood in the base. This is a scent of summer comfort with some old-fashioned powdery accent. Imagine the Claude Monet's 'Water Lily Pond'. An old world fresh summer day, not too hot, blue sky, lovely breeze, rich and sophisticated young people are having a high tea picnic. The ladies in victorian dresses are all powdered and smell like vintage floral perfume. The gents wear citrusy-woody cologne. Nice day! This scent is not light and careless, maybe because of the powder, but it is 'young'. I guess, because in the past young people had to grow up very fast. That's what I think about when I wear Dragonfly.

First blast of sweet baby powder and then immediately dives into sweet fresh greens and cool vegetal iris. There's an interesting dusty parchment note that feels out of place at first but oddly works with the cool wet rainy feel that this scent has overall. This is a grey rainy spring morning overlooking a marshy flower garden pond, and yeah it does give you the image of dragonflies skating across the surface, trying to avoid the fat raindrops. After a couple minutes, sweet florals start to bloom a little more.. nothing immediately identifiable, just an impression of pink flowers. Lovely and powdery soft. Feminine and best for a cool spring day. 6+ hours later: This didn't last all too long on my skin; it faded completely by about the 5th hour. It was still softly sweetly pink floral while it lasted though.

Just got my sample in today. I'm a fan of Hummingbird and haven't really liked any of the others enough to actually wear, even tho they're interesting to smell. And I enjoy sampling this line. I like this one a lot and will probably go for a bottle of it. I can't name or pick out notes in this one, other than it's very powdery on me, which I like. I don't get the "rain" or aquatic thing from this scent at all on my skin. I can't really pick out the florals in this either. Just a very fresh powdery scent. Longevity and projection are about average also. Will do good in any season or weather I think altho I think most people will associate it with spring/summer because of the Dragonfly name.

Light, Airy and wonderful. Dragonfly does portray their environment and their world. It opens with light watery musk, fresh air in a garden filled with flowers after a shower. As the fragrance develops it becomes more powdery with and earthy blend of Musk, Rice, Papyrus and hints of Sandalwood. This is simply a gorgeous fragrance. Art in a bottle. The Perfumer really did capture the life cycle and the environment of a Dragonfly wonderfully.

The first spritz is all consuming and toxic like a teenage boy with way too much axe body spray in the halls. Cue the Irish spring bon fire burning all your nose hairs for an hour straight. The rice notes are subtle and accompanied by the lotus smelling florals which come through on some sort of gentle by the pond breeze. Like you’ve been bushwhacking in tall reeds and can smell it but can’t see it yet. You probably have 8-11 ticks on various parts of your body now but then the dry down is lovely and is when the pubescent desperation finally gives way to the water’s edge. It’s moist and cool but why did you come here again

Opening notes are deeply reminiscent of other soapy, powdery aldehydic fragrances like Eau Premiere and Dia Pour Femme. It takes about half an hour for it to settle in and become what it really is: a delicate aquatic with plenty of fresh lotus petals and ozonic qualities. It smells like a gentle spring rain in a rice field. The heliotrope lends some almond-y dark booziness that makes this about ten times more interesting for me. Quite captivating, really. It retains just a touch too much powder for my personal taste. It's a very, very strong like for me, and I don't usually jive with aquatics.

It's fine. There is something reminiscent of Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere (one of my all-time favorites) - I think it's the aldehydes, the powdery iris. Dragonfly feels like a classic perfume - it reminds me of someone far more competent than me, who irons her slacks, whose skin is cool and dry to the touch (never clammy, never rough), who never stumbles out the door with her hair still wet. (None of these things describe me.) Dragonfly smells perfumey - there is nothing zippy or natural or swampy about it at all, and that's a bit of a shame. Within a few hours, it's gone.

Although Dragonfly is not what I would choose for myself, but this is one of those few wearable fragrances from Zoologist. The fragrances from that house are usually too strong and animalic for anyone to actually use it! Dragagonfly comes across as something powdery and green but has some sweetness in it. More for women than men. More of an acquired taste because it is a little strange, not the bad strange. Very long lasting. For someone who wants to impress. I would recommend testing it or using a small sample 5ml tube before buying a bottle to see if it is for you.

From the sample I received it smells like a small flower garden during a light drizzle. Very pleasant but a bit too floral to be considered unisex. It's not the sort of perfume that thots would wear either. It seems best suited for the church-going girl who braids her hair and is always pleasant and kind to everyone she meets. Very soft projection and dies down to a skin scent after two hours. (To be fair though, it's crazy hot and humid here so it will probably last you a substantial while longer if you live in a milder climate).

The original dragonfly definitely opens like powdered detergent on my skin, but that quickly transitions into a combo of rain and aldehyde-heavy handcream. In my book this is definitely more feminine than unisex. Somewhat 'dense' for a fragrance based on a dragonfly, and in this respect I feel like the reformulation takes the cake, but that may also be affected by my preference for its more unisex take on the idea. The original is definitely a more classic feminine fragrance, and probably more people-pleasing. 7/10

I had the full set of samples from this line and on first go round, this was my favourite. Opens with grenadine and marzipan, then very airy heliotrope. Fresh, airy, beautiful. Ideal for summer; skews feminine. On further wearing, it was marred for me by a vanilla dry down - vanilla is just not my personal taste, I wanted it to stay ethereal rather than turn gourmand. Still lovely; I rated at 7/10. I don't think I will purchase but I will enjoy finishing the sample.

A soft, powdery, ever-so-lightly sweet smell that's as delicate as a cotton shirt. Soft, fresh, floral. I can not comment on the rain note as I can not perceive it but even though Dragonfly works well as a morning fragrance, it does go well as a rainy day fragrance given that it can give a calm, melancholy feeling. Can't smell the rice either. However, the floral accord of heliotrope & lotus is quite obvious. One of the more appealing Zoologist creations. "Like"
