Rabbit

Hi there! Just laid my hands on some Zoologist perfumes and decided to make a review on them. Those will not be like 'ah yes the tonka beans kicks in'. Those will be just vibe check. Gen Z kind of review. The first one I tested was the rabbit. At first there were the baby biscuits + the smell of iodine. Some kind of throat spray. After three hours they are still on me. They smell like body cream, purity, innocence, gourmet biscuits. A very creamy aroma, like whipped cream, but also reminiscent of carrot cookies. In terms of vibes, this is a cottagecore for me. The way the rabbit is depicted on the jar is 100% similar to what kind of vibe it has. It is a very mystical vibe for me, that is, much more complex than a soft drink that can be like some kind of vanilla or the aroma of tea. That is, cottagecore, some kind of tea - it is all obvious and incomprehensible. And here it is very complex and unusual. You can attribute a bit of mysticism to this, you don't know what it is specifically, but you turn around because it catches you, as if the girl who wears this fragrance is hiding something, looking very innocent and naive. For me, it's porcelain dolls, porcelain dishes, little dollhouses with little fluffy rabbits like that. But. Everything is so cute and ruched, so cool and sweet, but this slightly salty carrotiness comes through. Like when you come to the forest, and there's a house on the edge, you come there, it smells like home, something sweet, pastries, they give you warm milk mixed with carrot cookies. You lose consciousness and then they feed you to the monster that protects this girl's house. An Alice in Wonderland vibe. When you see a beautiful house with geese and rabbits - heaven on earth, but the fertilizer for the flowers are other unfortunate people who are seduced by the fact that everything is so simple here. I see it on a girl with wavy hair in pastel colors with ruffles, but without pomp, something so old, vintage but precisely in the manner of a lonely forest house. With lace curtains, shutters, porcelain decor and small flowers in the same muted shades that seem to have faded over time. A girl with a thumb, a girl who does not like to conflict, who likes to go to vintage stores and sees beauty in a statuette with geese, painted porcelain cups. The vibe of France even, but not this pompous one, namely the small village of Rochefort-En-Terre in France. A girl who wants silence and not the city bustle, to have her own small bakery and rabbits. If this one was a genre it would be a horror movie for me because it is much more complex that ppl offer to cottagecore aesthetics. Maybe will even lay my hands to the travel size. Not really my vibe but it really felt special to me. Also my wife said that i smell like a farm with rabbits but i cannot tell because i have never been on a farm with rabbits.

Zoologist was extremely kind and let me sample Rabbit in advance of its release, along with another scent that probably won’t be released until closer to the end of 2024. I’m likely sworn to secrecy on details about the latter scent (all I’ll say is that it has, err, bite, and that it absolutely blew me away and will satisfy long-time Zoologist fans who have griped that the company has recently become too “mainstream” – that latter scent is up there in terms of creativity with the likes of Squid). But I’m thrilled to announce that both fragrances are masterpieces and a triumph. Creator Victor Wong is at the top of his game here, and he’s firing on all cylinders. Rabbit is unlike anything that Zoologist has previously attempted. This bunny is a gourmand so it shares some similarities with Harvest Mouse, and people who enjoy that scent will likely have a field day with this one. But here’s the thing: it’s also far more nuanced than Harvest Mouse. Rabbit expertly whips up and blends the fragrances of a bucolic green garden with a gourmand carrot cake to create a deliciously and deliriously frothy vegetal scent that somehow manages to not be tooth-achingly sweet. You can detect and miraculously pick out the individual notes of green vegetable leaves, hay, carrot, white almond and vanilla...and even the biscuit accord. Incredible! It’s odd that cream cheese frosting isn’t a listed note, because I can damn well nearly taste it when smelling this. That said, this isn’t cloying at all to me. Unlike other reviewers, I found that the hay and the green leaves really shine through to perfectly balance this out and make it something far more intriguing than your standard gourmand. The dry-down is a heavenly skin scent that smells akin to strolling through a dew-covered meadow, while the scent of a Parisian bakery gently wafts in from the background. Rabbit is unisex, leaning toward feminine, and it’s fair game for year-round wear. I suspect Rabbit is destined to ultimately rank as one of Zoologist’s most popular scents and a certified crowd-pleaser. I don’t know when Rabbit will be available (lettuce have it already!) but I, myself, will be hopping down the bunny trail to purchase a full bottle as soon as it’s released. In five words or less: This bunny’s ear-resistible.

Original mix of fougère and gourmand. Yes, first thing I got form this fragrance is its originality, it is a mix of two styles apparently incompatibles, fougère and gourmand, we have citrus in the opening plus green hay accord with some musks and earthy patchouli but also a fruity carrot cake spiced with cinnamon and vanilla sweetness in the base and... it works! It is so good and "new", it doesn't smell like anything I smelt before and it fits so well with the image of this cozy rabbit running in the hay fields with some flowers blooming here and there and then going back on its subterrain lair to cook the most delicious spiced carrot cake. Such a brilliant work from Fanny Bal, kudos. Trying to identify the materials I can pinpoint the bergamot, some cumarin for the hay-almond note, carrot seeds (ths is interesting because they are usually used for the iris accord, while here without any syntetic or iris absolute they take the center of the "cake-biscuit" accord and at the same time they contribute to build the violet accord togheter with probably some hedione and some galaxolide) and off course I can smell a "mild" patchouli that gives both the green feeling and the earthy facets. Overall this is a very cozy fragrance with great originality, you can take it as a sweet fougère or as a green gourmand if you want but in any case it remains very enjoyable, relaxing, beautifull. It's longevity is quite good, you get a lot going on for many hours until it lays down in a cozy vanilla-"furry" musk (I still dont' know how those musks from zoologist are always able to accord perfectly with the mood of the animal represented, plumy for the snowy own, furry here for the rabbit ecc... I'm pretty sure that they are built around galaxolide but still cannot figure how to complete the accord to give these wierd and original facets). Its projection is average, nothng bestial but well present around you, and it is so nice you can wear it whenever and wherever you want without offending anyone. Pricepoint is the usual zoologist and this time it is well deserved imo. It is not a fragrance I will use massively but from a perfumery point of view it is so good and original that I needed at least a 10ml. Worth at least sampling for everyone.

Okay this one is veryyy cute. I definitely think it’s sweeter and less subtle than Harvest Mouse, more of a gourmand for sure, but they do feel like they live in a similar little storybook field gourmand family. Right away, I get bergamot and greenery. The opening is very green to me, but not in a harsh way. It smells like fresh stems, grass, hay, that kind of thing. But even through the green top, I can already smell the sweeter parts underneath. There’s this biscuity vanilla accord, a little almond, a little carrot, and it gives the scent this soft sweetness that I really enjoy. As it develops, it gets richer and more gourmand. I wouldn’t say it's a straight up bakery, but it definitely starts giving me carrot cake vibes. Like carrot cake with cream cheese icing, but still sitting in a green meadow. It’s not just sugary cake. There’s still hay, patchouli, and greenery grounding it, so it doesn’t become too literal or heavy. I get the patchouli in the background, but it doesn’t smell dirty or overly earthy. It kind of rounds out the green notes and makes everything feel more grounded. I also think I can smell some amber as it dries down, giving it warmth and richness. The sweetness becomes more and more noticeable over time. I don’t really smell obvious florals, which is a plus for me, they’re just somewhere in the background structure I personally cant detect. This is more green, sweet, biscuity, carrot-y, hay-like, and warm than floral. Extremely wearable, very warm and cozy.

Got a sample of this one with my last order and it really surprised me. I figured it would be a very green, hay-like forest vibe but once again, Victor throws us off! This is absolutely a gourmand. At first whiff I got a lemony cupcake, and then later carrot cake with lemon zest. The biscuit note is very prominent giving Rabbit a cakey kind of vibe. You can even pick up a powdery effect which I find reproduces the "crumbliness" of a biscuit or sponge cake. It does have quite a bit of greenness however, so those not into hay or grassy notes might be in for a bit of a spin here. Personally, I did get the green effect later on, and I found Rabbit to morph quite a bit on me. Typical of Zoologist's perfumes, this is quite a complex one which at first whiff seemed rather simple. On me, I get a good 5-6 hours, I could stretch to 7-8 but by then it's a skin scent. Good longevity. It's very sweet to my nose however, so while it's very wearable and pleasant, do be careful if you wear this to work, it's seems to push out quite a bit the first hour or two. I'd say spray sparingly if inside. This is very Spring-like but the sweetness would make it work in early Fall and even Winter thanks to the cake vibe and spiciness giving it a comforting, warming feel. Another winner and a surprisingly complex perfume. Kudos to Fanny Bal, the perfumer.
