Tiger

This is a great inclusion for Zoologist, though maybe not what people expect from them. This is frankly better than I expected it would be going in. On the opening you get a sour and fruity kumquat that eventually gives way to a well-blended mixture of smoky incense, vetiver, and ebony wood with a touch of carrot seed. It comes off as deep, earthy, and a bit of dry green grass. While it doesn't transport like other Zoologists do, the thematic of a tiger suits the fragrance really well. It is evocative of a somewhat hot and humid deep dark jungle. When I smell this fragrance, I think of some sort of den (think the incense) as well as a sort of hot and humid summer night. I think this fragrance's scent profile is best for a summer night, though it wouldn't do well in intense heat. Note-wise, its definitely something more fall/winter cold weather, however the vibe of it in practice gives me cool summer. The scent profile isn't too creative for this brand, however I don't think all of their fragrances need to be. I like when they have a mixture of "transportive" scents and more wearable thematic scents. For the latter category, this is one of their better offerings. It is a bit amusing that this is probably the only brand where its fans will rate fragrances critically for smelling wearable. It is in the sort of Encre Noire/Eilish No 2 category, at least for me but just a ton more interesting. I think I would really like if this fragrance had a long lasting accord that would stand out (like the kumquat and such) that could bring something to the middle of the sort of vetiver/wood/incense accord. As such, its a very earthy wood scent. That being said, I knew going in this just isn't my scent profile and I was more just a fanboy/curious. So I probably won't be getting this scent. But I do honestly love it! If you're thinking of trying it, I think you should.

Tiger by Zoologist opens with a dry, hot, spicy kumquat accord that quickly reveals a dose of synthetic vetiver. The saffron is seamlessly blended in, providing a tiny touch of leather while bringing the spices and woody notes together. I'm not sure if I am smelling ebony wood, but there is almost a cherry varnish type thing in the background. True to its name, Tiger is hot, dry, and diffusive. In this case, diffusive refers to molecular nature of the fragrance, not the projection, which seems modest. The dry down is heavy on the cashmeran and iso-E super to balance out the vetiver. The dry, molecular base makes Tiger suitable for both hot and cold climates. To me, Tiger is a combination of Encre Noire, Lune Feline, and Wonderwood. I love all three of the aforementioned fragrances, so Tiger is turning out to be one of my favorites from Zoologist--a very modern, wearable fragrance. The perfumer, Cristiano Canali, also created Bee, which is probably my favorite from the house. On the other hand, one could understand why some fans of Zoologist would be a little disappointed by Tiger--it just doesn't have that novelty found in Squid, Bat, Civet, and others. For me, I would rather own something that I would wear on a regular basis vs. something that I sample a couple times a year. 4.5/5 wearability 3/5 novelty 3/5 performance Edit: Given that fragrance is subjective, we need to remember that an easy-to-wear fragrance for one person could be challenging for a different person. I don't understand why many people categorize T-Rex and Moth as challenging. On the other hand, Penguin and Sea Horse are very difficult for me to wear.

A gorgeous scent, rich in vetiver, ambrette, cardamom and incense. This gives me all the feels of the best of the Amouage (masculine) lineup. One of the absolute best of this house. I also get a uniquely Canadian reference here, to Tiger Tail ice cream. Not that all Canadians share the same history (a common experience when we travel - “You’re Canadian! Do you know my old college buddy John from Saskatoon?” Yeah, it’s just the second-largest country in the world, roughly 40 times the United Kingdom. Of course I know some yahoo a nonstop day-and-a-half drive away, ya genius!). But ... well it just so happens that Zoologist HQ is a short bike ride from my house, and I’ve visited and met Victor once or twice. So anyhow Tiger Tail is an orange-flavoured ice cream, swirled through with a sticky black licorice ribbon - a strange old-school concoction still found in our ice cream parlours and supermarkets. And there’s something in this fragrance of that orange-hued base of kumquat, vetiver and carrot seed, with a swirl of the dark and anisic (with no licorice note, it’s likely the ebony, papyrus and incense). To follow another meandering (jungle) path, Georges Bataille wrote: “The sexual act is in time what the tiger is in space”. What other perfect knot of commoditized excess, of Bataille’s “accursed share” of supplemental energies, than this brand of strange, luxurious niche fragrances. The sexual act in time ... the tiger in space ... Zoologist in the marketplace ... ya get me?

To me, this smells like i would expect a newly washed and clean tiger could smell like. It doesn't have a directly "animalic" note. But it has an "animal musk" note to it. Suede, spices, incense, and woods are the first accords i notices. The suede is animalic, but pleasant. I'm not familiar with Kumquat, but i'm guessing it and the Jasmine is what's bringing a slight sweetness in to balance the composition. I would in no way call this a sweet scent, but you Need some sweetness for a suede and/or leather fragrance not to be harsh. "Tiger" has a perfect balance in that way. The woody side really shows up in the dry down, and the suede never goes away. All in all, i'd say this is a great fragrance. A masculine fragrance that has a very well balanced formula. I can't find any faults in the scent itself. I think "Tiger" is a fitting name, and it gives that little extra confidence when worn. I wouldn't say summer is the best time for it, although i think it can work for cooler overcast days. But it's perfect for spring and fall, and will work well during winter as well. Day or night. Casual to semi formal. Probably age 25+, as it's not very sweet, and that's usually what the youngest amongst us prefer. Personal score: 9/10. I love it, and i'll be getting a bottle one day. I don't really wear suede or leather fragrances often. But this isn't too suede heavy, and other notes are lifting it and making it lighter and pleasant. Definitely worth a decant.

I absolutely love this fragrance. I cannot count the number of times I picked up the sample to have a sniff, reluctant to use up the few ml I had. I’m new to perfumes and Zoologist was a big part of what got me interested; the idea of recreating animals or their environments with smell, telling a story, rather than “just” making you smell nice. This was the first sample I got, and I’m very impressed. The opening is somehow both bright and smoky, before drying to a comforting, warm, and addictive scent. I recall reading a review that felt the predatory nature was lacking, and I agree this does not feel predatory. But it makes me feel like a tiger in its den, comfortable and secure, its pleasant and familiar animal smell mixing with that of the forest that surrounds it. Which I’d argue is much more representative of a tiger, which sleeps 18-20 hours a day. If you are sensitive to strong smells however, use caution; Tiger is not only incredibly strong, but long-lasting. When I opened the sample, I could smell it despite the airtight packaging, and the whole room smelt faintly of it for the rest of the day AND the day after. I had a headache at the time, and the lingering scent made me feel somewhat nauseous.

the first thing that hit my nose was a spicy smoke with a very slight sourness from the kumquat. for the first few minutes, it's extreeeemely smoky but as it settles into the middle notes, it's honestly so good.... it takes a while for the smoke to settle, but after a few hours the smell made me think of what my hands smelled like as a kid after playing in summertime and my hands had been all over the grass and warm soil. it's warm and earthy, and i think the carrot seeds is a really nice touch and goes well with the vetiver. it lasts all day, transforming from smoky incense to a delicious blend of sour kumquat, warm earthy vetiver and wood. tiger is meant to represent a tiger on the prowl, ready to strike its oblivious prey — while i wouldn't call this fragrance offensive or ferocious, the earthy nature of it is reminiscent of a tiger lowering itself to prowl through the tall grass. i'd use this more often around late spring/summer/early fall, but i adore this fragrance. 8/10 from me

I'm really enjoying this fragrance, it almost comes out as citric but that;s just the combo of vetiver, kumquat and carrot seeds. I don't think this fragrance is challenging at all compared to some of the others from this house that I've tried but then again I am a fan of vetiver. I think the only vetiver forward fragrance I disliked was sultan vetiver. The ebony wood and incense combo gives Tiger a darker smokier edge, especially in the dry down that's very masculine. This is by far my favorite from the house that I've tried but it will not be everyone's cup of tea. I happen to like smoky, vetiver and incense type fragrances so this is right up my alley. I don't personally think it smells like encre noire (which I own), although I can see why some think that. If I were to compare it to the line I would say it matches EN l'extreme more due to it's darker nature with the ebony wood and incense; encre noire is certainly greener and drier.

I enjoy the fragrance. Performance is very good. It’s an all day projector and the sillage is huge. People will definitely know you were there. It’s great for the fall and winter, but also great for the hot summers for a different artistic feel. Its sexy in the sweltering, and confident in the cool. The fragrance is very versatile. It’s more like a sensual, calm tiger as opposed to one who is actively hunting. It’s his mane, his habitat, his nonchalant gaze.. You can smell the presence of a dark, earthy wood and how it plays against a more milky, instead of bright citrus, while maintaining a tall grasses and dry hay like feel throughout. The fact that I enjoy this parfum, regardless of the presence of cardamon, is a testament to the creators expertise. It’s subtle presence actually helps tie everything together. The fragrance is unisex but I feel it definitely leans more masculine. Test it first, but it will grow on you most likely.

I thought this one was great. Zoologist Perfumes has been knocking it out of the park lately, in my opinion. Tiger is unique, complex, and interesting, yet still wearable daily. Harvest Mouse and Tiger have captured the vibes of their respective animals perfectly, in my opinion, while still being appropriate in the office (spray lightly)! While Tiger isn’t as challenging as T-Rex, it still offers a complex note breakdown that keeps you smelling your wrist all day. It opens fairly sweet, and I get a lot of carrot seeds. Then it gets a bit Smokey and the grass and vetiver come out. I get this to last all day on my skin, and it projects about 2 hours. I would have liked a little more incense, but this is one of their best overall.

Recently picked up a 60ml bottle after trying a sample a couple months ago. I got the last little bit out of the vial, and I forgot just how much I love smelling it. This is a really satisfying citrusy, yet dry vetiver-forward fragrance. The kumquat is slightly astringent, but it's a bit fuller-bodied than something like an orange or a lemon note, while lasting a lot longer through the drydown. It settles over time, the bitterness and brightness of the kumquat washes away into the background, making way for a very woody/grassy intimate smell. It develops like you're spending a day in a tall grassy clearing, seeing the daylight fade to sunset. I wasn't sure if it'd be worth it for the full 60ml, but I'm glad I picked it up.

Tiger charges in with a bitter and lemony qumquat, but as it settles on my skin, it transforms into a delicate composition in which vetiver and incense take the lead. The spicy and incensed vetiver is clearly accentuated by my skin. Tiger is very classy, respectable, traditional, masculine, dry, and warm. Tiger has depth and character. Additionally, it has a somewhat smokey feel and definitely fits like a second skin. Good longevity and arms-length sillage for the first 2-3 hours, and works well in the summer heat. It's lovely to be able to occasionally smell Tiger's scent in the bubble it surrounds you in (I don't get nose-blind with Tiger). Great addition to Zoologist's line up.

Zoologist tiger is a wonderful, masculine leaning unisex vetiver forward fragrance, with animalic leaning notes to the leather accord. It's somehow simultaneously subtle but also carries a lot of presence. This will absolutely get you noticed if you even slightly overspray- the projection is on the strong side. This is rather transparent for a funkier, dry vetiver. I don't get the kumquat but I do detect a bright citrus that calms the intense woodiness and smokiness that this opens up with. The dry down is much more woody, and slightly less dry to my nose. Strong projection for 6hrs, after which it's about elbows length for a while thereafter. 9/10 and a must for vetiver lovers.

Upon testing this fragrance, I was immediately hit with a wave of familiarity and nostalgia! I have a bottle of Thoth Oil from Natural Magick Co-op (created to embody the energy of the ancient egyptian god of knowledge and writing) which heavily features Papyrus essential oil. It's mellow, masculine, brainy, and papery, reminiscent of a library with pine bookshelves. It is one of my favorite notes in perfumery and is just about all I can smell when wearing Tiger, besides a quiet whisper of incense and saffron. I do not think this is complex as the other fragrances from this house, but that isn't stopping me from liking this scent at all.

This isn't something I feel confident enough to wear (one of the only perfumes I've worn that my boyfriend says he hates) around other people, but in my lonesome? It's beautiful. More masculine than I'd typically prefer something I wear to be, but it's so pretty in its dry smokiness. There's one note I really enjoy that I can't quite point out - perhaps the carrot seeds? It's a very heavy musk that blends really well with the smokiness. Definitely sample instead of blind buying it, but I'm happy I own it!

This is certainly enjoyable. Slight citrus opening with smoke. Dries down to a smoky earthy and enticing fragrance. I enjoy the Zoologist approach. I have found most of their fragrances to be rather enjoyable. The main complaint I have is the projection. One would think with Tiger, there would be a roar and not a purr. Great fragrance but boost it, make it a predator. Save the safe scents for Harvest Mouse and Chipmunk. Also great scents. But when I want to be offensive, let me.

I received a sample of Tiger with a recent order. This is very much a hot summer night fragrance. It’s Shere Khan sipping on a top shelf margarita rimmed with smoked sea salt while steel drums beat in the background and fireflies dance about the thick jungle air. It has a presence, but it’s not dominating. It’s a Tiger stalking, not pouncing. I’d wear this out at night with friends, but I wouldn’t wear it to brunch.

This smells like summer, but not in the fantasy watery-beachy-tropical way most summer perfumes are. This is drought-year summer on the plains. The heat has already long since overstayed its welcome, the once-green fields torched to dry, brittle stalks begging for a brush fire. All you can do is wait for summer to be over. (In a good way!)

Great for colder, outdoor occasions. The intensity of the wood notes give it a classic, gentleman style of scent. My girlfriend smelled it on me and immediately fell in love with it. The longevity is great. It’s not a powerhouse as far as the projection, but I think that's a good thing. I'd consider this full bottle worthy.

I got a spoiler sample for this when I bought Harvest Mouse. Tiger is very dry grassy, like autumn leaves on the ground. It also has some very fancy wood whiffs. Stays pretty linear, but very pleasant. Longlivity is aprox. 9 hours with 1 spray and sillage is moderate. It is between a skinscent and a roomfiller.

When I first smelled my sample, I'll admit I wrote it off since it smelled pretty similar to Encre Noir, at least on paper. But on the skin, it's different enough from Encre Noir that I'd like a bottle of this. It's woody, with a hint of sourness, and a smokiness that is wonderfully dark and moody.

Every single one of the notes listed is distinctively present here. This is so beautifully mixed. I cannot imagine why someone would think this is an underdelivered composition. Master work 👌🏼 top 3 favorites from the house for me along with Macaque Yuzu and Cardinal

A rich old man. What I imagine the 19th-century oil barons and railroad tycoons smelled like. A scent so complex it's hard to describe, but your nose will notice that saffron and incense first before the dry down. Wear this to manifest racks.

reminds me very much of purpose from amouage by quentin bisch. tiger smells more natural and dry compared to the synthetic amber hum in purpose that causes it to lean into standard from artek/comme des garcon. excellent

I love it! I don’t know how to describe this scent but on my skin it’s almost creamy and sweet but a bit bitter too. Quite dry, I definitely think of a tiger sneaking through long, dry grass in a savanna

Smells so much like creamy cashew butter. Beautiful!

It opens slightly spicy, sweeter than I expected, perhaps due to the Kumquat, of which you cannot smell the sour part of the pulp but only the softer part of the thick peel. The perfume immediately reveals itself to be easy to wear, sober. It evokes a beautiful image of quiet, like tall grass caressed by the wind, locating itself more in a savannah than in a dense jungle. After about twenty minutes its evolution begins, an interesting floral sweetness emerges, accompanied by musky notes. It is a challenge for me to understand this perfume, because it contains odors that are unknown to me, like this particular type of jasmine, for example. Arabian jasmine or Sambac is a species of jasmine native to a small region of the eastern Himalayas, which includes Bhutan and neighboring India and Pakistan. It is euphoric and directly stimulates the hypothalamus to produce enkephalin, substance which, in addition to inhibiting pain, provides a state of well-being and happiness. Its sensual and heavenly scent is aphrodisiac, helps overcome blockages and stimulates libido; in the emotional sphere, it allows to overcome impotence caused by internal suffering, depression, apathy and pessimism. I recognize that the raw materials here are on another level, compared to I don't know how many other perfumes I've smelled in the past: it projects well and makes itself be noticed, furthermore it turns out to be very long-lasting, all this thanks above all to natural extracts. It is an excellent fragrance, adult, complex, gentle, delicate but enveloping. Its sublime aesthetic quality is inspired by the sinuous and silent movements of the queen of the felines, elusive and majestic, of paralyzing beauty. The base notes then take you back to the thick vegetation, between the papyrus that grows along the rivers and the tall vetiver stems of the wild prairies, surrounded by green and earthy notes, with hints of soft and rustling leather that emerge at times and then disappear. A masterpiece of harmony and grace, unisex perhaps more evening-wearing for the milder seasons. Yes, if you are hunting. No, if you're looking for something cheeky.

There's room for many creative approaches in the perfume world but while I'm glad they exist Zoologist is a brand I've never really warmed to. The weight of the concept always seemed to get in the way of the execution. The perfumes were interesting, unexpected but could also be heavy or messy or too synthetic or hard to wear / harder to love. (Though worth reading Christian Cantelli's thread in the forums about trying one a day of his sample kit). After I had a run of bad tests with Hummingbird , Chameleon , Sloth , Dragonfly (2017) , Bat (2015) , Bee and Panda (2017) , and liking but otherwise having no great enthusiasm for Nightingale , Camel and Moth I gave up on the newer releases. You can't say I didn't give them a fair crack but not for me I decided. Then my interest was piqued by the launch of Tiger . Some Zoologist fans were disappointed ("safe", "fangless") but might that work in its favour for me? If Tiger did summon the natural world, like @TwistedWhiskers below I'd picture bone dry, grassy plains under midday sun. Perhaps the animal would be an antelope glimpsed fleetingly among the tall, swaying stems. As others have already remarked there's no sign of the most beautiful and terrible of felines here. Maybe its camouflage or near-extinction is the point. Grassy vetiver, woodsmoke, carrot seed, dry saffron and papyrus in order, with these austere notes Tiger should be right up my street. A tiny hint of ambrette musk and jasmine sambac just softening things fractionally. There's a wood being used for the smokiness (ebony wood and incense are listed, I suspect guaiac with some Iso E Super or even cypress) and the tarriness makes Tiger too smoky for me on the blotter (a grassland fire) but on my skin it behaves much better and I like it a lot more. An elegant smoky vetiver daytime scent. I'm surprised, it actually suits me very well. (Maybe I too am "safe", "fangless"?). The missing Tiger has turned out to be my favourite Zoologist to date.

Dark, mysterious, and yet dashingly handsome. Tiger plays a lovely song and dance between rooty, sappy woods and sharp citric kumquat. scent breakdown - Opens up immediately with a blast of sharp citric freshness from kumquat and deep, rooty vetiver. After this initial blast, a twinge of spicy saffron and musky carrot seeds help to polish the sides of the sharp kumquat while smoked ebony wood and a slightly leathery papyrus come in to really boost the vetiver. In the dry down the freshness almost entirely fades to reveal the smoking, woody, and almost crunchy vetiver that sits at the heart of tiger. personal thoughts - Smells like a man who dresses up in a full suit every day, sips over proof liquor neat, and only takes 3 hits of a cigar before snuffing it out as it was “losing its flavor”. A very dark and rich take on vetiver with a pleasant citric, and slightly leathery twist to keep it out of the realm of other vetiver scents like Encre Noire and Sycamore. Very dressy and confident, which means it could very easily wear you if you’re not careful with your application. Leans a bit on the traditionally masculine, but wear what you want. performance - Great performance of 10+ hours on my skin with decent projection throughout the first half of the wearing, but it never screams further than 3 feet. rating - 8.5/10. when to wear - Masquerade parties; black tie dinners; Ruminating in the back of a bourbon speakeasy song vibe - Relax by Rejjie Snow TLDR - Sharp, bitter Kumquat + Earthy, woody vetiver + Smoked Ebony wood + Leathery Papyrus + twinges of aromatics. A very dark, brooding, yet strikingly handsome Vetiver fragrance that is sure to not only impress but hypnotize any Vetiver lovers out there from its explosive opening to its smoldering end. If Gomez Addams from the Addams family wore a fragrance, this would be it.

The vetiver and ebony in the base is a winning combination. It’s a lightly smoky, smooth vetiver. The ebony note reminds me very much of Ebony in Oak from Scents of wood, and it’s easily identifiable when you compare the two. The vetiver and ebony just support and highlight each other soooo well. An excellent, worthy addition to the zoologist line up, instantly among my favorites from the house. I don’t see myself getting a full size bottle, but definitely will try and get the travel size eventually. It starts out rather light and grassy, with a slight animalic touch. Then as it develops it just gets darker and darker as the ebony takes over. But still the vetiver remains and tempers the ebony, and it also seems just slightly boozy, but I think that’s the ebony as well. Fwiw, Encre Noir is one of my all time favorites (it was basically the only fragrance i owned from like 2010-2020, and I consider it the fragrance that opened my nose to things outside of typical designer frags), and this doesn’t really remind me of EN at all. Much closer the Amouage Journey to my nose, which i also like quite well. It also has some similarity to the Orto Parisi/Nasomatto DNA... there’s something in it that made me think of a more wearable (for me) Black Afgano or Terroni. Upon further sampling, it really does remind me of black afgano more than anything. And I’m not sure tiger is actually the best animal for this, I just keep thinking Black Panther would have been a more appropriate name for it.

This immediately reminded me of an old favourite - Timbuktu by L’Artisan, in fact the note lists are nearly identical. The kumquat is a bit less tart than the mango which gives it a slightly darker feel overall. This is a sweet tropical fruity vetiver fragrance; smoky and spicy, but not heavy or cloying. Might be too much for some in high heat, but could be quite seductive in the cool of night. As it dries it darkens, so it feels like a sunset. The incense is not the churchy sort but there’s a good dose of it, and there’s earthy smoky vetiver behind it all. If there are any signature animalics they are quite dialled back, perhaps a touch of civet. This is an abstract take on the tiger - it’s orange and a bit slinky and mysterious, no cute pussycat here. There is a really warm fuzzy saffron note and happily more smoke than expected, which gives the vetiver a unique sheen. I would say this was redundant if you have Timbuktu but that has been reformulated into a ghost - this cat hasn’t be neutered - so I’m happy to have a replacement. This may actually be better. Update; This actually reminds me a lot more of Chanel’s Sycamore in the dry down. I’m currently debating between the two.

Tiger opens with a somewhat spicy but medicinal smell, almost slightly camphorous, not at all sweet. As it dries down, a slightly sweet, fruity smell appears that also seems a bit indolic. The dominance of this fruity smell doesn't last long, as the woody notes appear, mainly vetiver, which become more dominant. This gives the fragrance a much drier, spicier and resin-y scent with the fruity scent more in the background, contributing a musky and slightly animalic accent. This final stage make up most of the fragrance's life and I have to say it is really nice. Strikes me as quite masculine. Performance is good. For longevity, I got about 8 good hours out of it and the projection was at the top end of moderate. You won't fumigate a room with this one. It's a classy scent without over doing it. I'm adding Tiger to my shopping list. After the first hour of wearing Tiger, I was thinking that it seems like a milder Prim Lomros scent. Looking it up, I see the perfumer is Cristiano Canali. Since I liked it so much, I had to see if Mr. Canali has created anything else I've liked. Sure enough, he's done a lot of work for Rubini, including one I have - Nuvolari. Small world, eh?

I love perfume, but I have a terrible sense of smell, so this review is very limited by what I personally can and can't smell. I got the wood and a little bit of warm spiciness, but this smelled overwhelmingly like paper to me, especially once it dried down. I actually picked out the paper note before I even looked at the actual list of notes, which I was frankly very proud of. It smells like looking at an old, large manuscript in a special collections library with hardwood floors and high ceilings. The pages are very thin parchment paper and you have to put gloves on to turn them. I don't think that's the intended vibe of the perfume, and I'm sure I would have a different impression if I could smell more of the floral/herbal notes, but it's what I got from it. And I really like it! It's very unique and interesting - not a typical perfume scent but still a very pleasant thing to smell. My boyfriend smelled cardamom and incense and not paper at all, and based on other reviews it seems like different people get very different things from it. I think it's worth the gamble if you like any of the listed notes.

Tiger opens with a translucent, amber-veiled, mysterious, rather sharp musk. It does remind me a little bit of the smell a big cat leaves on a trail – genuinely animalic, in a natural rather than perfumey way. Edgy, but i like it. A few minutes in it gets quite dark and smoky, and then the smoke recedes a bit and blends with the original moody amber-animalic chord. And then it dries out a bit and I start to get a greenish-gold animalic vetiver. A little bit salty. Dried grass and hot tiger breath in the smoky night air. The far drydown goes back to dark smoke, with a lingering dry-vetiver aura. We’re definitely in the YSL M7 Zone – that range of smoky, ambery, brooding scents that’s been olfactory code for masc-of-center sexiness since the 21st century began. It’s easy to half-ass this sort of thing, and many perfumes do – too sticky-sweet, too woody-amber bro, too perfunctory liquid-smoke – but when it’s done right it creates a magnetic presence, a dark intimacy that embraces the night. Tiger does it right.

Woody incense and musk are the dominant notes of this fragrance. I waited impatiently for it because I am a fan of tigers and always think about preserving their breed and environment. The fragrance is charming and very serious, not suitable for young ages. It is a sober and seductive fragrance. I tried it on my wrist. The smell of mandarin comes out, but it disappears later, leaving the base with a powdery, woody, incense note. Now, three hours later, I can still smell the incense and wood completely clearly. It reminds me of a museum of wooden statues, fragrant, somewhat Buddhist, with the smell of incense pervading the place. The powdery note on the other hand makes the perfume very suitable for elegant women at a party full of emotions in the heart of the cold winter. The Buddhist theme of the fragrance, Asian ebony wood and animal musk make it the perfect tiger fragrance.

The opening seconds finds you dropped straight into the green jungle. A little bitey, like a playful nip from a cat. This lasts about the length of time it takes to inhale deeply a few times. It rapidly dries down into dusty green grey shadows. Like shoving your face into a tiger that has come back unsuccessful from the hunt - it's fur dry, a little dusty, brown grass, warm, and prickly, and is now stretched out under a tree. This lasts the rest of the time you're wearing it. It's a tiger chuff. One from a reserve, that won't hesitate to climb into the safari vehicle, but you're still nonetheless very aware it could hurt you. You want to pet the purry murder kitty, and it's letting you, and you're delighted.

Interesting opening and then it quickly evolves to smell very, very close to Black Afgano, but a little more refined and less tarry. I recently handed off my remaining Black Afgano and Encre Noir, thinking I'd outgrown them. This is a nice alternative that's very, very squarely in that zone. The papyrus note, though subtle at this point, makes it seem slightly different from its predecessors, a tad drier, and a bit more office-appropriate, though it's still heavy in a good way. I like. If I smelled this on someone else, I'd really think it was a dried-down Black Afgano.

This is a really beautiful smell, imagine all the sweetness from the smell of mowing the lawn without the earthy smell. I would say it's a moderately safe blind buy but I'm not sure if it's necessarily wearable as a daily. It's a great perfume but I just think zoologist has much more interesting stuff. I find camel is better as a daily, squid is better if you want something dark, T-rex is better if you want something more experimental. Tiger is a good perfume I just struggle to find a good scenario where it would work better than Zoologist's other offerings.

This opens very spicy, but not too sharp. It's a dry, well-rounded spice with a slight zing from the kumquat. The carrot seeds add an earthy warmth so it's not too dry though. As it dries, the spice fades a bit and a very subtle floral sweetness comes in. It's very light, but it makes a smooth transition into the sweet suede that stays into the dry down. The full dry down is a clean, soapy vetiver with dry woods, sweet suede and just the slightest bit of that strong spice from the beginning. Very nice masculine-leaning fragrance. Very wearable.

On my skin, Tiger is a woody, ambery, balsamic fragrance. I get notes of oranges at the top, labdanum at the heart, and birch, amber at the base. Tiger is a menacingly dark and seductive fragrance, i imagine the Tiger perched on top a tree in the cover of night, its eyes piercing through the darkness. The question becomes, Harvest Mouse or Tiger? The bold and rich nutty scent or the dark and dry woody scent... For me Tiger starts with dark, heavy wood but somehow becomes bright and tangy in the far dry down, it's like the usual progression is completely inverted. I'm not a fan of the early stages, all the semi-sweet earthiness against the ebony is a lot. I'm surprised how much I enjoy the end though, the vetiver and cardamom take over and it switches personalities. The more I wear my sample, the more tolerable I find the opening, and the more I'm able to pick out the heart notes too. It's definitely growing on me.

A little on the safe side of Zoologists, Tiger is very dry and woody, but not arid I can picture a dense forest easily from it. The wood is kinda multilayered from papyrus, vetiver, ebony etc. all blend together pretty damn well it’s an old school style like PdM Shagya with a little bit of spice and incense to niche-fy it. Performance to me could be better it dies down in an hour to barely noticeable but not bad at all, just maybe a little forgettable compared to the rest of the catalog atp.

Dark. The initial is sour, citrusy kumquat. It is a bit much, I do not care for it myself, but it quickly drys down to a burnt wood/charcoal smell. There is an earthy, dirty vetiver note here too that I think is done well. After a few hours it smells what I imagine an ancient Egyptian Tomb might smell like. Or maybe a 19th century storehouse for looted ancient goods. The papyrus is nice. Again, I probably wouldn't wear this, but it was a fun journey.

Oooh, seductive! This is as chic a headshop scent as I could imagine. Cardamom, saffron, incense, vetiver - these notes popped for me. Wearable and gorgeously fitting for the warmth and distinguished character of a tiger. Dry down is for fans of Francesca Bianchi! This smells so extremely similar to her DNA, I don't think I could distinguish them if I were blind sniffing. I'm going to compare samples to nail down which of hers its most akin to!

You are in a jungle, green and floral scents surround you, but something ominous is watching you. This perfume is absolutely captivating. It opens with a plant floral smell with a subtle note of animalistic musk in the back which is quite hard to pick up on. This perfume is good around for everyone however I would say it leans more masculine (because of the musk note), despite the "plant" smell opening.
