Toucan

First Impression Review Think of Christmas in the tropics, or hanging pomanders at the edge of a Polynesian garden. Clove buds and ylang dominate this fragrance to me, in such a lovely way. The multitude of sweet notes paired with the coconut make Toucan smell almost like a creamy spiced custard, but without getting cloying or heavy. Lime and orange blend into the overall sweetness, and are not bringing any tanginess, which I think could have balanced it even further (but this is really nitpicky). The sandalwood is very subtle and is more part of the heart rather than the base to me. The clove buds are definitely what makes Toucan stand out. I appreciate that no other spice such as cinnamon or nutmeg was added, as it really makes the clove buds shine on their own. Another great thing about Toucan is that it could be worn all year around. Floral for spring and summer, spiced for fall, sweet for winter. But it would not be a signature scent/everyday fragrance to me; it would rather be a special occasion fragrance, or on a vacation in hot weather. I prefer Toucan over Chameleon Tropical Blooms Edition, but I think I prefer Lovebird over Toucan for its better versatility and cozier feel. 8/10! Great addition to the Zoologist family. Edit: The dry-down is just amazing. Flowers have vanished and I'm left with a spiced sweetness that has so much depth. Super balanced, not chemical-smelling at all, quite edible and smooth like a light custard. YUM!!!! It's now in my top 3 Zoologists with Penguin and Camel, and has just edged out Lovebird.

The notes list really represents what you are getting here. It opens very sweet and tropical; papaya and creamy coconut with a very banana forward Ylang note that reminds me of the one used in Civet. Must like banana. Animalics are present (I think...) but very far back, and just a touch of lime keeps the sweetness from being totally overwhelming. As it dries it becomes more floral allowing the clove spice finally reveal itself and further tame the sweetness before it becomes cloying. There’s just a touch of soapinesss from the orange blossom and a heavy dose of jasmine bridging the gap between the fruit and the flowers. I often dislike vanilla in the base of fruity fragrances but here it’s used very judiciously, it doesn’t become powdery or take over the composition and plays well with the clove. The balance of everything feels very smooth and polished. This is one of the most crowd pleasing fragrances in the Zoologist line, with very little signature weirdness present. I could see some guys finding it a little feminine but not me, I have a bottle on the way.

I was so excited that Toucan is created by Simon Constantine! The creator of one of my most beloved scents, Lush Death and Decay, as well as many other peoples beloved Lush scents. Now. I'm going to go ahead and say it.. this smells like a Lush scent in the best possible way. The dreamy tropical florals remind me of Sikkim Girls, a most wonderful Simon Constantine frag. His florals are dense, intoxicating and creamy. Dreamy and creamy, yes that's my take on the Constantine vibe. The papaya is absolutely DELICIOUS in this scent and reads banana initially. This is a sunny, extravagant fruit cocktail custard DELIGHT. It will make you happy! Lovely cinnamon spiced drydown. I think it's one of the best and certainly most distinctive of recent Zoologists. Unapologetic, that's how I like them.

I got a sample with my Zoologist order. It smells to me like straigt up Juicy Fruit chewing gum. Very neon, satured fruit smell. It dries down and smells more humid and animalic, as if you're smelling ripe fruits in a tropical rainforest. Pretty interesting one, more interesting than you would expect. A good addition to the Zoologist collection. Just not my cup of tea.

I absolutely love that they got Simon Constantine to work on this. Brilliant perfumer and I'm sure this is gonna be unique as well.

Fiuuuuu. This looks like a safe blind buy. I will get my sticky hands in this release.
