Консул (Consul)

My love for this scent came through the terracotta-colored soap Консул that my mother brought from Moscow in 1980. My school friend’s father had Консул cologne, and we compared it with that soap. The vintage cologne was unusual and very pleasant, but the soap seemed even more unusual and even more pleasant - it delighted children. The modern version of cologne is not as exciting as the vintage version. When my son was given CH 212 Sexy Men, it seemed that the ghost of the former Консул flashed in this perfume.

Wow! I like this stuff. On the one hand, it's clearly a 1970s gentleman's fragrance with a vintage musk overdose (easily 24 hours on skin) and a good splash of patchouli oil along with classic aromatics. But on the other, it has a very unique and natural character without any other dominating accords and due to the addition of ingredients rarely used in that decade like ginger, elemi, and guaiac. It's been a while, but I think the closest to Consul is the classic Paco Rabanne PH, but without the annoying smoky leather accord and certainly lighter. This is a floral aromatic woody cologne with average performance and an original, likeable style that deserves a place among any 70s-fan fraghead's collection. And like all juice from this storied Russian brand, it's cheap as chips. Thumbs up!

I had this fragrance back '78 or beginning of '80s. It was a nice cologne and i enjoyed it quite a lot, although longevity was not that good. It could be also attributed to a humid climate of St.Petersburg(Leningrad at the time). I think it would become skin scent after 3-4 hrs. However, the memories are a bit vague (too much time has passed) 🙂 Still, it was an enjoyable cologne and quite different from Shypre or Troynoy.
